Ari Lennox Celebrates Being Sober For The Past Seven Months: ‘I Can’t Imagine Going Back To How Things Were’

Ari Lennox is known to wear her heart on her sleeve. Whether it’s in regards to her fear of flying or about her frustrations in the industry, Lennox never minces words.

Last night (July 25), the “POF” singer took to Instagram to reveal that she’s been sober for the past seven months. During this time, Lennox shares she’s been through ” a lot of sober flights,” and had “A lot of sober conversations.”

She also shared that she doesn’t know if her sobriety will be a forever thing, but she “can’t imagine going back to how things were.”

But for the time being, Lennox is grateful to be present.

“I like doing chill sweet thing,” Lennox said. “I’m a chill b*tch I realized. Accepting help and realizing I’m not the best traveler on my own has been a game changer. So now I have help and that helps. Having help is ok. I like waking up with no hangover or embarrassment. I like waking up with no night terrors and panic attacks from liquor. I’m so raw feeling everything in this world and my coping mechanisms are only healthier now. It’s nice to remember events as they are happening.”

You can see the full post below.

“7 months sober. That’s a lot of sober flights. A lot of sober conversations. A lot of facing things raw and head on. Honestly I don’t know what will happen when I reach a year sober. Don’t know if sobriety is forever or not but I can’t imagine going back to how things were. Passing out in the airport or having my emotions more heightened than needed smh shit was bad. I feel more in control of my emotions. More stable. More happy. More alert. More safe. More accepting of things I can’t control and more responsible with things I can. I have less anxiety socially and when I’m ready to go, I go. I recognize my threshold with things and implement boundaries. I don’t find interest in partying anymore :/ maybe I’m changing and that’s deeper than alcohol. I like doing chill sweet things. I’m a chill b*tch I realized. It’s nice to remember events as they are happening. It’s nice to be present. Sobriety is a very present experience. Also I ain’t have no ass in long over a year. Just casually communicating this to the universe. But yea sure there’s the fantasy of wanting to escape all the intense stress of the world with alcohol cause boy does it work temporarily. But there’s the moment the liquor stops numbing and you’re chasing that feeling to no avail and you wake to see the problems of life still there [heart emoji] so anyway anybody out there also sober? What have you learned on your journey? Love you all so much.”

Ari Lennox Isn’t Down With Dating People In The Music Industry

Ari Lennox isn’t about that risque life. She has made that abundantly clear. A recent tweet of hers confirmed jumping out of planes and testing the limits of height are not on her bucket list. And while scuba diving and Mt. Everest might not see Ms. Lennox anytime soon, there’s another group that won’t be spending quality time with the R&B artist. At the very end of her Twitter list, she calls out “music industry people” and her being okay with not dating anyone from the music scene.

The artist has had numerous relationships that turned sour due to the simple truth that they were also in the music business. Ari Lennox is famous and has many top-tier hits, including “Pressure” and “Shea Butter Baby.” When you’re as well-known as Lennox is, people date you to get clout or to network in the industry as a struggling rapper. Lennox feels jaded from the whole experience. There have apparently been numerous ex-partners who either pretended not to know who she was or didn’t let on that they were trying to make it big in music until later. This leads to Ari Lennox’s trust issues and the following Tweet…

Ari Lennox Has Trust Issues (For Good Reason)

Lennox has incredible self-awareness and healthy distancing, letting her date without wondering if the person she’s with is only with her to get famous. She’s even had partners that demeaned her and didn’t even recognize her musical achievements. Safe to say, Ari Lennox is done with the belittling and the lying. Hopefully, she can find someone who wants to date her for her, not just what she does for a living. For now, that means not dating anyone in music, period.

What’s next for Ms. Lennox? She’s currently on tour after dropping both Age/Sex/Location, her second studio album, and her surprise EP Away Message last year. (According to her, this is her last tour.) She is signed to J Cole’s Dreamville Records. Lennox has singles like “Whipped Cream,” which is about a previous relationship that went bad. We pray that Ari makes new music about her aversion to music industry dating. She has plenty of material for another album. (As of this writing, Ari Lennox is not dating anyone. However, this could be her keeping her personal business out of the limelight. At this point, we wouldn’t put it past her.)

Governor’s Ball 2023: Ari Lennox, Kendrick Lamar, And Ice Spice Among Best-Dressed Performers

Summer is nearly here, and New York City is more abuzz with celebrities than ever. The past two weekends have seen some of the biggest names in hip-hop and R&B taking the stage at Hot 97 Summer Jam, and more recently, Governor’s Ball. While the former gave us performances from Cardi B, Lil Tjay, and Coi Leray (among others), the latter saw Lizzo headlining on Friday (June 9), and Kendrick Lamar closing things out on Sunday night.

This isn’t the only time we’ve seen K-Dot outside since wrapping up his Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers World Tour. Earlier this month he caught our attention at Primavera Sound, where the Pulitzer Prize-winning lyricist brought out clones to make a creative statement. His set in NYC last night was equally as riveting, and saw him wearing an orange and white outfit paired with a backwards blue cap.

There were plenty of noteworthy style moments throughout the weekend in Flushing Meadows Corona Park. Not only did those attending the event step out in their best, but artists like Ice Spice, Lil Nas X, and Ari Lennox made sure to show off plenty of body.

Elsewhere, Pusha T stepped out in a sleek Louis Vuitton look ahead of Pharrell Williams’ debut at the label. We also loved PinkPantheress’ homage to the ’00s, Giveon’s bright, all-white outfit, and Lizzo’s sparkly silver gown that had her resembling the Statue of Liberty.

Burna Boy And Davido Will Headline Afro Nation’s 2023 Festival In Detroit

Afro Nation is a relatively new festival but it’s already expanding rapidly — just like the genre it aims to highlight. While the first edition took place in Portugal in 2022, Afro Nation just held its first stateside event in Miami ahead of its return to Europe this summer. Ahead of this weekend’s festivities in Miami, Afro Nation has revealed its next expansion. On August 19 and 29, Afro Nation is taking over the former site of the Brewster-Douglass public housing projects in Detroit, Michigan for its third event of the year.

As with its prior show in Miami, AND will be headlined by Burna Boy, although Wizkid will be replaced with Davido, while they’ll be supported by US stars like Ari Lennox, Coi Leray, Latto, and Masego, as well as rising Nigerian stars Kizz Daniel and sibling duo P-Square. And just like prior iterations, the Detroit event will have an Amapiano stage to showcase some of the South African dance genre’s flourishing DJs along with a comedy show, block party, discussions and panels, and something called a Motown special, paying homage to the city’s musical roots.

Tickets are due to go on sale on Friday, June 2. You can get more information at Afro Nation’s Detroit website.

Ari Lennox Issued Another Apology To Oprah And Gayle King For Her ‘Wretched’ And ‘Ignorant’ 2020 Instagram Live Comments

Ari Lennox developed a cult-like following for her soulful songs and her addictive Instagram Live streams. Some of her sessions made it onto her album, while others have landed her in hot water, including comments she made about media moguls Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King. So the “Waste My Time” singer took to Twitter to issue a second apology to the women.

“I sincerely apologize to Oprah and Gayle. Y’all legends didn’t deserve that wretched ignorant live,” wrote the musician.

In her original livestream, Lennox was angry at King for her line of questioning during an interview with basketball player Lisa Leslie about the legacy of her late friend and fellow professional athlete Kobe Bryant.

“F*ck Gayle and f*ck Oprah,” the singer yelled. “Y’all are some self-hating pieces of sh*t f*ck asses. If I’ve never seen a c*on more f*cking c*onier than goddamn Kale and Okra. I’m over y’all.”

Before her apology, Lennox revealed the reason she stepped back from holding livestreams, saying, “I can be a b*tch sometimes. Just putting it out there. Not always proud of those moments, but sometimes I am.”

Reflecting on her decision to stop livestreaming, the entertainer confessed,” I have been naive, a sheep, a people pleaser battling traumas and codependency. I was one mindlessly and unintentionally spreading false information in order to impress people. My lives were a playground on top of a fiery hell. I was simply unaware of the damage I was causing. So while some of those lives represent a sweet, free, and even seemingly happier or more confident girl, I was lost and insecure. No self-awareness and so unhappy. Addicted to entertaining others so I didn’t have to face my own reality.”

Closing the thread, Lennox wrote, “So, in conclusion, that’s why there are no more IG lives from me, and prayerfully won’t be. They’re too addicting (for me), and I just don’t enjoy tap dancing at the expense of my mental health.”

Summer Walker’s Best Collaborations

One thing about Summer Walker, she’s going to deliver a hit. She made that clear when she delivered “Girls Need Love” in 2018. Since then, the Atlanta native has soared to new heights and gained fans that praise her daily. We know Summer can carry her own songs, but what about when she’s featured in artists’ songs? Here is a list of Summer’s best collaborations.

“No Lames” – Kash Doll feat. Summer Walker (2019)

The queen of Detroit, Kashdoll called on Walker to provide a glorious hook on “No Lames.” The three-minute song is about finding the strength to stop stressing and leave “lame” men alone. It’s a feature you can admit you never thought you would see happen but one you are grateful to hear. With Kashdoll’s fierce bars and Summer’s warm voice, you are grateful to have this song placed on your playlist.

“Purple Hearts” – Kendrick Lamar feat. Summer Walker & Ghostface Killah (2022)

Another feature you may not have expected to happen but can thank the heavens for is “Purple Hearts” by Kendrick Lamar featuring Summer Walker and Ghostface. The song was featured on K.Dot’s highly anticipated fourth album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. Summer chimes in on the hook with Kendrick before dishing out a hot 16, “But my n*gga left, his ass on the road. Gossiping ’bout some shit you don’t know. Oh, you hoe. I hate it here, baby daddy still on my phone. I hate it here, asking if I have been on the pole.” It’s clear Summer is talking to the ones that bad mouth her. She’s tired of the gossipers assuming things that aren’t true, and as a true introvert, she simply hates it here.

“Yummy” – Justin Bieber feat. Summer Walker (2020)

Toronto native Justin Beiber taps on Summer Walker to bless him with a remix to his hit single “Yummy.” The song is a melody for women who are down for their man and also have that yummy. “In the AM or PM you get what you needed from me; sugar, honey so sweet,” sings Summer, who provides a quick verse for the ladies to relate to and can recite to their man. “Yummy” is a perfect one for a club dance, car rides down to the beach, strip club, or if you wanna spice up the bedroom for your significant other.

“Deserve Me” – Kali Uchis feat. Summer Walker (2023)

Kali sings about returning to the road and moving on from her ex. Summer comes and sings about wanting to leave her man, yet she’s conflicted. She took a huge risk with this lover, making him feel lucky even though he was not all that attractive. She may be fighting these feelings, but it is safe to say she left because he didn’t deserve her time.

“Mixy” – Quavo & Takeoff feat. Summer Walker (2022)

We know men have real feelings as well, and “Mixy” by Quavo and Takeoff is a song dedicated to women who have mixed feelings and signals. Quavo is sending shots, “How you count your blessings and don’t mention me?” A valid question and follows it up by saying he ignores the tweets because the love is all gone and she’s for the streets. Summer comes in after the hook, providing a rapping-singing verse. She sings that she’s trying to recover from men who aren’t worth it, she’s distracting herself by being on her wave. She’s turned her heart into chrome and is busy raising her net worth and having fun.

Takeoff provides a strong point of view of fighting with his girlfriend. He and his lady have matching APs and Van Cleef’s pieces, but money can not buy happiness because the two have fights with one another. During this fight, his lady packed her bags but Take knows she’s not leaving cause their relationship is mixy and messy. He tells her she needs to count him in his blessings, and even though their lover’s quarrel happened a while ago, he still has a love for her.

“Unloyal” – Summer Walker feat. Ari Lennox (2021)

This list cannot be completed without “Unloyal.” It is a Summer Walker song but the song features fellow songstress Ari Lennox. The three-minute song is an ode to men who call their women unloyal because they will not put up with their nonsense or ongoing games. Summer calls him out for spotting him at a bar with a girl at the bar, and she’s over it. Ari sings about her man being childish, how he is lying that he pays for things when in reality, he isn’t doing a single thing except commenting on Kevin Samuels’s posts. She tells him to come to get his belongings because she is too fine and does not need the childish man wasting her time.
