Olympic Breakdancing Gets Clowned Online For Some Really Bad Moves

Breakdancing is one of hip-hop’s five pillars, and seeing it at the 2024 Olympics in Paris is quite the wild sight for the culture and art form as a whole. Sadly, this global exposure and reintroduction in the popular societal sphere probably won’t make you very happy if you’re bummed out about people forgetting about this pillar more often than not. That’s because a lot of these displays proved to be pretty cringe according to social media’s comically unimpressed reactions. Many of them took aim at a particular b-girl Raygun, although other Olympians also caught strays and jokes about their efforts.

Still, a lot of Olympics fans and viewers found some truly worthwhile and engaging performances during these breakdancing one-on-ones. Even though most of what’s going viral is the more seemingly embarrassing fare, just like with every other event, there’s always something special to witness. Hip-hop’s had a pretty eventful presence in these games this year, with Snoop Dogg pretty much being the poster boy for a lot of it. Surely, more closed and centralized hip-hop circles have a lot more to say about this breakdancing.

Fans Aren’t Impressed By Breakdancing At The Olympics

Elsewhere, artists like Pharrell think that the Olympics should reinstate their arts competition. “We get to remind people that at one point, the Olympics actually had the arts as a section that ran all these competitions,” he expressed at the event’s Louis Vuitton party. “Sculpture, architecture, visual arts. The idea we get to put the arts back in… Why not take this moment to bring awareness?” The LV creative director referred to the five medals awarded in fields of music, painting, architecture, literature, and sculpture from 1912 to 1948. Breakdancing is definitely a start, although it seems like they didn’t kick off on the best foot this year.

Meanwhile, there are other Olympics-slash-hip-hop moments that were perhaps not as embarrassing as some breakdancing, but were nonetheless not the typical display you’d see from the genre. This includes Travis Scott and Quavo’s impromptu performance of the U.S. national anthem. Huncho Jack and Jack Huncho were giving it their all, but if they had a mic in front of their hands, it would be a pretty bad performance. But they didn’t mean to take over a Super Bowl stage with it, so let’s let them be proud hip-hop stars and at least make the jokes funny and not mean.

Of course, we know that these jest-heavy and more cheeky moments on The Joe Budden Podcast can result in some controversy from time to time. In fact, he and his male co-hosts faced recent backlash for their relentless teasing of Melyssa Ford during a recent podcast episode. Even though some folks made excuses about her being “one of the guys,” others suggested that these are indicative of more potentially harmful attitudes. Still, it’s a small moment to use as a generalizing tool, so it’s a futile effort either way.

YesJulz Accuses Milo Yiannopoulos Of Reaching Out To Kanye West’s Dentist Himself

Kanye West’s alleged nitrous oxide addiction, as claimed by his former Yeezy chief of staff, Milo Yiannopoulos, shocked his fanbase this week. Moreover, Yiannopoulos filed an affidavit and complaint against celebrity dentist Thomas P. Connelly, accusing him of engaging in “the unlawful supply of enormous quantities of nitrous gas to a wealthy, famous patient for explicitly recreational use” after installing Ye’s titanium grill. In addition, the former chief of staff claimed that Connelly hired someone to physically attack him. But another affiliate of the Chicago artist’s, YesJulz, fired back against Yiannopoulos’ claims on Twitter after the legal paperwork mentioned her, accusing him of connecting Kanye to Connelly in the first place.

“Riddle me this hero,” YesJulz’s seemingly since-deleted accusation against Milo Yiannopoulos began concerning Kanye West’s alleged nitrous gas addiction. “Who suggested for him to get the grill in the first place? Moreover, both Donald Trump and Kamala Harris have to win over the States’ public favor come November, and they’re both apparently making strides in the worlds of pop culture, content creation, and streaming to do so. If you didn’t already know, Kai Cenat recently claimed that the Secret Service reached out to him to support Harris and collaborate with her campaign. While he said that he has no interest in involving himself with politics, a new report suggests that this is a bit of a misrepresentative story.

Furthermore, TMZ recently claimed to have spoken with an alleged source supposedly close to Kamala Harris’ campaign, who reportedly said that no one from her camp had reached out to Kai Cenat at the time of his claims. According to this supposed source, the Harris campaign hasn’t even considered linking up with the Twitch giant. Also, apparently Cenat was instead contacted by a third-party organization informally connected to the Democratic National Committee’s convention team. The convention takes place later this August in Chicago, but his involvement is not only unclear, but downright speculative at press time.

Not only that, but this TMZ report also claims that this third party’s conversations with Kai Cenat began before current president Joe Biden dropped out of the race in favor of Kamala Harris. Allegedly, no one from her campaign formed part of these supposed talks. But why are people so captivated by the notion of these two wildly different celebrities teaming up to do something together? Well, that’s because fellow popular streamer Adin Ross recently did a livestream with Harris’ opponent, Donald Trump.

As you can imagine, that stream lit up social media and resulted in some comical, bizarre, or otherwise controversial moments. For example, his die-hards recently blasted the haters for attacking Victoria Monét, who recently attended one of his shows. Regardless of where you fall on that spectrum, it’s clear that the conflict occurs between fans and detractors, not between the Virginia native and his relationships with other artists.

As such, it’s important to understand that the stardom of Chris Brown is a pretty unmovable object, and fan backlash is not quite the unstoppable force that they want it to be, for better or worse. Perhaps it would be more useful for fans to simply not engage with him online rather than demand others to drag him, and for hardcore supporters to understand and validate why people can’t rock with him like they do. BossMan Dlow is in a pretty sticky situation right now, as a fan recently seemed to film Florida police arresting him and fans have many theories as to why. However, based on a recent tweet from none other than DJ Vlad, it seems like he might have another big issue to worry about when it comes to how he can move in his career. Moreover, the controversial VladTV host accused Dlow’s manager Chris Silvers of being a stingy negotiator and of withholding deposits over plans for an interview with the rapper. While there isn’t any public response from his team at press time, we’ll see whether or not this becomes more contentious in the future or if they clear up this misunderstanding.

“I want to warn everyone out there who is booking @bossman_dlow,” DJ Vlad’s tweet about BossMan Dlow’s manager read. “We recently gave his manager Chris Silvers a small deposit for an interview. While a lot of fans thought that, if true, this is a pretty low move on BossMan Dlow’s manager’s part, others were more quick to clown DJ Vlad for this incident. “So you got finessed [crying-laughing emoji],” one fan on Twitter replied to this warning. Still, Vlad was happy to explain things further and defend himself, and we’ll see how far that goes. “The person who made the booking for us got finessed. It wasn’t a big amount, but it’s just surprising that they wouldn’t return the deposit after changing the terms.”

Meanwhile, some other Vlad detractors think that Chris Silvers actually isn’t BossMan Dlow’s manager at all, adding to the “finesse.” At the end of the day, this is sadly a more common occurrence these days thanks to the nature of social media. But what’s definitely true is that Dlow has bigger fish to fry at the moment than a VladTV interview. Maybe they can actually lock it in one day and laugh back at what happened.
