In case you missed it, Donald Glover made waves at the 2024 BET Awards this weekend when he took the stage to lament his lack of historical success at the awards. He joked, “It doesn’t really make sense: I have more Grammys than Will Smith, which makes no sense, but I have the same amount of BET Awards as Sam Smith. Does that make sense to you guys? Me and Sam Smith are neck-in-neck at the Black Entertainment Television…”

Will Smith, it turns out, is a fan of the bit.
On Instagram yesterday (July 1), Smith shared a video of himself in what looks like a hair and makeup room, watching the aforementioned part of Glover’s speech on a TV. He laughed after he was mentioned, then let out a bigger laugh at the Sam Smith punchline.
Glover was up for Best Actor at this weekend’s show, ultimately coming up short as the honor went to Denzel Washington. Glover was also part of the massive Usher tribute performance, opening the multi-artist medley by singing Usher’s “U Don’t Have To Call.”
Will Smith didn’t have any nominations, but he was on hand to give a performance of a very Kanye West-like new song.

The 2024 BET Awards has been a hot topic since it aired this weekend, and unfortunately, it’s gotten a fair bit of criticism from viewers. The Usher tribute, for example, left some fans confused and convinced that it could have been executed in a better way. He also delivered a heartfelt speech while accepting his well-deserved Lifetime Achievement Award and ran into some serious audio issues. TikTok food reviewer Keith Lee even got a shout-out from host Taraji P. Henson, which got awkward, to say the least.
Henson made her way through the crowd to celebrate different attendees by handing them roses, stopping in front of Lee and his wife to highlight him. She mistook him for another influencer sitting nearby, Jordan Howlett, prompting him to redirect her attention to Lee. “I got caught up in my own inner monologue, I’m so sorry,” she said. Lee later took to social media to share a clip of himself dropping the rose on the ground.

Keith Lee Clarifies He Has No Beef With Taraji P. Henson
This prompted a bit of backlash from fans, who questioned whether or not this was intended as shade toward Henson. Now, he’s taken to TikTok to clarify that it wasn’t, and to raise issues he had with production. “I’ve always spoken about my social anxiety, and for me just to get out and be in that moment was more than enough for me. So to take me and my wife out of our seats, put us in different seats, give Taraji no direction to who we are and what we do felt extremely unprepared and unprofessional to me,” he explained.

Amber Rose isn’t backing down from her support of former president Donald Trump. Earlier this week, she teamed up with conservative rapper Forgiato Blow to appear in his music video for the track, “Trump Trump Baby,” which flips Vanilla Ice’s classic 1990 hit, “Ice Ice Baby.” The track is loaded with politically charged bars. “Democrat party going to take your freedom/Indictin’ our president ’cause they can’t beat him,” Blow raps at one point. Later, he adds: “The media is the enemy of the people/The Democrats and the fakes news always be cheatin’.”
Blow’s fans were loving the collaboration in the comments section. “Id like to say it’s truly heart warming to see Miss Rose’s transformation,” one top reply on YouTube reads. “You’ve come a long way young lady, welcome to the MAGA family. Rose previously discussed her surprising support for the former president during an interview with TMZ, earlier this year. That conversation began with the interviewer questioning why she plans to vote for someone who isn’t passionate about women’s rights. “Is Donald Trump not for women’s rights issues?” Rose asked. “He’s trying to make America great again. That’s for women too right? So, there you go.” She also explained why other celebrities have begun supporting the former president. “I think we just did our research and we’re not brainwashed anymore by the left,” she said. “I can say that about myself. Eminem Reveals The Artwork For Highly Anticipated Single “Tobey”
Eminem will always have fans on the edge of their seats for new music and today is no different. In just a few short hours he will be dropping off the second and possible final single for The Death of Slim Shady, “Tobey”. The track has been generating a lot of buzz ever since it was announced a few days ago. Part of the reason for that is because of the guests coming along for the ride. Two fellows Michiganders, Big Sean and BabyTron, will be lending their talents to the track. Eminem is doing a cool thing with “Tobey”, as all three MCs are essentially repping three different generations of Detroit hip-hop.
Marshall Mathers is playing into that aspect even more on the artwork, which he just revealed on his Instagram moments ago. It recreates the iconic Spider-Man meme where two spiderweb-weaving superheroes are pointing at each other. That iconic Marvel character seems to be the main theme of “Tobey” as the song is a partial homage to actor Tobey Maguire. He portrayed the masked vigilante in the original films in the early 2000s. As most superhero super fans would know, Spider-Man becomes Spider-man after being bit by a radioactive arachnid.

However, for Eminem, Sean, and Tron, they seem to have been nibbled on by a goat. The latter’s lyrics were teased in the trailer toward the end, and he rapped, “Tobey Maguire got bit by a spider, but see, me? It was a goat“. If that is any indication, this looks to be a more of a braggadocious cut. However, we will find out sooner than later, as “Tobey” drops at 12 p.m. EST. Some fans were a little surprised that it did not drop at midnight, but Eminem never revealed the time in the original teaser.

Kanye West has been declared an “enemy of Ukraine” after traveling to Russia to celebrate the birthday of Yeezy fashion designer Gosha Rubchinsky. The designation comes from the website, Myrotvorets, which tracks people who “have signs of crimes against the national security of Ukraine, peace, human security, and the international law.” It was set up by politician George Tuka.
For Ye’s listing, the site writes: “Propaganda of war. Visit to the capital of the occupiers during the invasion of the sovereign territory of Ukraine. The money spent by Ye in the so-called Moscow by taxes will be spent on the murder of civilians of Ukraine. Hidden support for aggression and murder of civilians of Ukraine.”

Slick Rick was, and still is, one of the greatest storytellers in hip-hop history. After the promotion and success of his first album, The Adventures of Slick Rick, the British MC continued his ascent to stardom with his sophomore effort The Ruler’s Back.
Slick Rick’s second album was finished rather quickly due to the fact he was hit with a five year stint behind bars. The first and hit single off the album was “I Shouldn’t Have Done It”, reaching number two on the Hot Rap Charts.
Following “I Shouldn’t Have Done It,” Slick Rick released the singles “Mistakes of a Woman in Love With Other Men” and “It’s A Boy.” The project also features production from Mr. Lee and Slick Rick himself. Russell Simmons served as executive producer.
