City Girls Confirm Hiatus as Yung Miami and JT Pursue Solo Projects

City Girls Unveil Cover Art for Upcoming Album 'RAW'

In April, fans of the rap duo City Girls were left in suspense after a public spat between Yung Miami and JT hinted at potential trouble. On Monday (June 3), Yung Miami confirmed the rumors: City Girls are taking a break from their group efforts.

During an interview with Complex, Miami detailed what led her to pursue a solo project. “I think when the City Girls album [RAW] just dropped, and it didn’t do too well, and we were just trying to do our press run. The whole rollout of the album was just so bad because we were in two different spaces,” she explained.

The album, despite featuring high-profile collaborations with artists like Usher, Lil Durk, Juicy J, Kim Petras, and Muni Long, only sold 10,000 copies. Tracks such as “Good Love,” “No Bars,” and “Work For It” were included in the 18-song collection but failed to make a significant impact.

Miami elaborated on the duo’s evolving dynamics: “We’re older now, and she was doing her own thing. She’s on the West Coast; I’m in Miami. I’m doing my own thing. And I felt like naturally, when she was doing her own thing, it just worked for her. And when I’m doing my own thing, it worked for me. But when we get together as a group, it just wasn’t connecting.”

Reflecting on their decision, Miami said, “It just wasn’t working no more. So, I think we both were at a point where we were just like, ‘We probably should just do our own s**t.’”

Earlier this year, Yung Miami released her first solo single in nearly three years, “50/50,” where she addressed her critics, including DJ Akademiks. In April, she followed up with “CFWM,” featuring Detroit’s Skilla Baby.

Meanwhile, JT has also been busy with her solo career, dropping tracks like “Sideways” and “OKAY” in anticipation of her debut EP, City Cinderella.

This hiatus marks a shift for City Girls, who have been a dominant force for women in the hip hop scene. While fans may be saddened by the pause in their joint efforts, the promise of fresh solo projects from both Yung Miami and JT offers an exciting new chapter for the artists and their followers.

Drake Confuses — Or Trolls — Fans With ‘Wah Gwan Delilah’… Which Might Be AI-Generated

This AI stuff has gotten out of hand lately. There’s no telling if any song is real or if someone typed a prompt. And, as if to drive home the point, no less an authority on the subject than Drake (of course) has put in an appearance to either troll fans or prove just how unfazed he is by his recent battle with Kendrick Lamar.

A few minutes ago, someone called Snowd4y dropped a new song called “Wah Gwan Delilah” on SoundCloud, purporting to feature Drake himself. The song is a clear riff on the 2006 Plain White T’s hit “Hey There Delilah,” employing Caribbean patois to replace the standard greeting in from the original’s title.

Either the mixing on Drake’s vocals is weird, or fans just can’t believe that he’d really do something this corny, so X.com (formerly Twitter.com) has lit up with fan responses wondering if the track is authentic or AI-generated. (For what it’s worth, according to the Drake subreddit, Snowd4y’s whole thing is doing a cheeky satire of a Toronto rudeboy, so perhaps the whole thing is meant to be a joke that fans are, of course, taking way too seriously.)

Complicating matters is the fact that Drake himself has posted a screenshot of the song from SoundCloud on his Instagram Story, writing “@snowd4y wake up the city 😂 😮‍💨” Whether this means that he’s amused by the audacious stunt by Snowd4y or that he really does support the track remains unclear.

Pete Rock Reveals Why He Stopped Working With CL Smooth

Pete Rock and CL Smooth were a definitive rap group of the 1990s. They made some of the smoothest hip-hop of the era alongside Gang Starr and A Tribe Called Quest. As with any long term collab, however, tensions arose. Pete Rock and CL Smooth went their separate ways in 1995, and despite linking back up for reunions in the 2000s and 2010s, the two artists always seem to split. There hasn’t been a whole lot said about the reasoning for these numerous splits. That is, until Rock addressed the pattern during a recent episode of Drink Champs.

Pete Rock had nothing but positive things to say about his former partner. “He’s the best talent I ever came across in my whole life,” the producer explained. “I’ve never heard a guy rap like this, I’ve never heard a voice like this. We shared great times together. Don’t get it all f*cked up now, we’ve had our good times.” It wasn’t a matter of clashing personalities, but rather the natural tensions that rise from being around the same person for years on end. At least, that’s how Rock felt. “Just like life,” he noted. “People have ups and downs.”

Pete Rock Still Wants To Be A Duo With CL Smooth

These ups and downs ultimately made it difficult for Pete Rock and CL Smooth to grow as a duo. The former noted that growth for them as individuals began to differ from their growth as a unit. “Sometimes, when we’re in the negative zone, we go like this [does split motion],” he stated. “What we would wish for each other is growth, but when one is growing and one isn’t, then it’s still uneven.” Rock then shocked the hosts and the listeners by claiming that he and CL Smooth should still be together today. He didn’t care to get into specifics as to why they weren’t, however.

“We should still be together,” the producer asserted. “But some things, you know, that I can’t tell the whole public. Certain things happen in a partnership that just can’t be… and people won’t understand. I don’t want to be the only one speaking on someone who’s not here, but I wish him the best in life.” This take is a far cry from 2018, when Rock and Smooth decided to scrap their planned third album. The duo teased a reunion on wax after Smooth appeared on Rock’s Soul Survivor series, but the excitement was short-lived. According to HipHopDX, the album was scrapped due to resurfacing tensions.

Metro Boomin Tributes His Mother On Anniversary Of Her Death

Metro Boomin has been a busy man. The producer kicked off the rap battle to end all battles, between Kendrick Lamar and Drake. He enlisted the former for the number one single “Like That,” and dissed the latter with his “BBL Drizzy” instrumental. Metro has never been more popular. That being said, the super producer took time out from his tour with Future to pay tribute to his late mother, Leslie Wayne, who died two years ago at the hands of her husband.

Metro Boomin posted a pair of photos on his Instagram. The first photo was of him and his mother when he was a child, and the second was of the two of them when he was an adult. The caption made it clear Metro is still reeling from his untimely loss. “Today makes 2 years since Your Physical being has left us,” he wrote. “But I get on my knees and pray every morning that Your Spirit fills and surrounds my brothers and sisters and I more and more each day.” The producer concluded his message with a heartfelt note to Wayne. “I Love and miss You more than could ever be explained or comprehended,” he added.

Metro Boomin Celebrated His Mother’s Life And Impact

The producer’s mother was a topic of discussion due to a recent spat between him and Soulja Boy. Old tweets were unearthed in which Metro Boomin insulted Soulja, and the “Crank That” rapper responded by insulting Leslie Wayne. Soulja Boy recended his comments, however, and issued an apology to Metro via X (formerly Twitter). “I apologize to @MetroBoomin for over reacting over an old tweet,” he tweeted. “Condolences to his mom. I’m going to seek therapy and anger management. I’m done responding to hate, new or old.”

Metro Boomin has opened up about his familial loss on Instagram. In August 2022, the producer posted a message to his fans that detailed his feelings. “Mom was and still is my best friend in the universe. And anybody who really know me know I’ve always been a Momma’s boy my whole life,” he wrote. “This don’t even feel like real life no more; it’s like a nightmare that never ends, and starts over every time I wake up.” In a separate post, he added: “This gotta be what hell feel like ‘cause it’s like my soul just always burning and everything around me constantly burning.”

Drake Just Covered “Hey There Delilah” And The Internet Is Baffled

Drake claimed he was done beefing with Kendrick Lamar. He was gearing up for “summer vibes,” which got fans of classics like “Controlla” and “Passionfruit” excited. Drizzy may not have won the K. Dot battle, but he’s always been good for hits. Right? Well, the enthusiasm for “summer vibes” has dimmed. The 6 God decided take a hard left and release a collab cover of the Plain White T’s song “Hey There Delilah.” Yes, the one you’re thinking of. Drake flipped it, though, so the title is now “Wah Gwan Delilah.”

To make things even more complicated, the cover is actually a remix of a cover originally released by the singer Snowd4y. Drake pulled a Soundcloud era move by hopping on a song that was already gaining a little bit of traction. The thing is, the song choice is baffling. Especially with the 6 God pouring Autotone on his vocals and swapping out the original lyrics for Toronto slang. The slang has resulted in good songs but there’s no defending this one. “Wah Gwan Delilah” is going to provide Drake haters with ammo for a long time.

Drake Teamed Up With Toronto Artist Snowd4y

“I just show my dog your ‘Gram. He said he knows a man that slapped it, I’m so cheesed,” he sings. “Your ‘mademoiselle’ nights are geeked, I’m bent lowkey. Wah gwan, Delilah? Double date me if you like me.” It is a couplet so cringe-inducing it doesn’t even require analysis. It looks bad on paper, and sounds bad on record. It’s worth noting that this is the only song by Snowd4y listed on Genius. Snowd4ay is a new artist from the 6, which explains Drake’s desire to link up with him. Outside of repping the city, though, it’s hard to imagine what the rapper was thinking when he agreed to hop on the remix.

This confusion has understandably driven the social media response to “Wah Gwan Delilah.” Fans really want to know what’s going on with Drake, and whether he will ever be the same after the Kendrick Lamar battle. It seemed silly to believe that the rapper would struggle to get his footing after the beef, but this is an undeniably bad release. “Drake dropped that sh**ty song wah gwan Delilah with the Toronto accent,” one user wrote. “We not beating the washed allegations.” Another was baffled by Drake’s musical falloff in such a short period of time. “Drake is unreal,” they tweeted. “Just had one of the most insane beefs in hip hop history and drops this sh*t right after.”

2 Live Crew Rapper Brother Marquis Dead At 58

The hip-hop world has lost of its Miami bass pioneers. Brother Marquis, born Mark D. Ross, has died at age 58. The rapper made his name as one of the members of the group 2 Live Crew. While he wasn’t a founding member, his personality and rhyming ability make him an immediate standout. Brother Marquis provided classic verses on songs like “Me So Horny” and “We Want Some P**sy,” which remains party anthems to this day.

2 Live Crew started out as a Los Angeles group in 1984, but they didn’t forge their identity until they moved to Miami the following year. Brother Marquis joined 2 Live Crew after two singles, and thanks to his involvement, as well as that of manager/producer Luther Campbell, the group exploded. Their debut album, 1986’s The 2 Live Crew Is What We Are, went Gold. They got even bigger with As Nasty As They Wanna Be in 1988. The album contained the aforementioned hit “Me So Horny,” which featured a verse in which Brother Marquis mentions his own name. The song cracked the top 40, and the controversy that it sparked led to the album going double Platinum.

He founded the duo 2 Nazty with DJ Toomp, and collaborated with Ice-T on the song “99 Problems,” which was later remade by Jay-Z. Brother Marquis returned to the group that made him famous for the albums Shake a Little Somethin’ and The Real One in 1996 and 1998, respectively. He also continued to tour with an abbreviated 2 Live Crew lineup throughout the 2010s.

Brother Marquis spoke on his musical impact during a 2014 interview with the New Miami Times. “I’m grateful and honored to be a pioneer as far as explicit lyrics,” he stated. “First Amendment rights, fighting censorship, and naked women on the stage. We were responsible for securing a lot of that freedom of speech for everybody.” Marquis is the second member of 2 Live Crew to pass away after Fresh Kid Ice in 2017. 2 Live Crew management confirmed that Marquis had been found dead in his home. There was no cause or additional details provided, however. Unnamed sources tell TMZ that Marquis’ death appears to be natural, with no signs of foul play.

Marjorie Taylor Greene Compares Donald Trump To George Floyd In Bizarre Twitter Rant

There’s been a blitz of political news recently as the 2024 American election approaches. Both candidates Donald Trump and Joe Biden have been subject to a variety of scandals, though Trump is dealing with much more. He recently became the first former president in American history to be formerly charged with a crime when he was found guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records last week. How the conviction will affect the upcoming election remains to be seen. But fans of the former president have come out against the verdict, claiming he is specifically being target for his political leanings.

Consequently, Marjorie Taylor Greene has been one of the loudest voices in defense of the former president. Earlier today, she took to Twitter to respond to fan claims that she worships Trump. Ironically, she posted it in between a series of tweets calling for Dr. Fauci to be arrested for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. “I’m tired of Democrat antics claiming Republicans worship Donald Trump. I worship God! Democrats are still worshiping Convicted Felon George Floyd,” her bizarre tweet reads. As far as those online can tell nobody brought up Floyd before Greene made those comments, making her post even stranger. Check out the post she made and the video she shared alongside it below.

Kanye West Sued For Sexual Harassment By Former Assistant

Kanye West is in legal hot water. The legendary rapper has been accused of sexual harassment by a woman who used to be his assistant, Lauren Pisciotta. The assistant claims that she worked with West on his fashion line, as well as a trio of songs on his 2021 album, Donda. What started out as a working relationship quickly spiraled, however. Pisciotta alleges that West sent her sexually explicit texts and videos of him having sexual relations with other women.

TMZ broke the news of the lawsuit on June 3. Pisciotta was hired by Kanye West in July 2021, and she claimed that she was offered $1 million by the rapper to delete her OnlyFans account. Within a year, she was promoted to Chief of Staff for several of West’s companies, with an annual salary of $4 million. The downside of this promotion that was Pisciotta claims she was frequently subjected to sexual harassment. She said West repeatedly pleasured himself during phone conversations, and asked her to guess what he was doing. Pisciotta also claimed that that rapper was fixated on the sexual habits of her boyfriends. She added that West would repeatedly describe his sexual fantasies to her via text.

Kanye West’s Ex-Employee Cited Sexually Explicit Texts

TMZ provides example of these alleged texts. One of them reads: “See my problem is I be wanting to f**k. But then after I f**k I want a girl to tell me how hard they been f**ked while I’m f**king them. Then I want her to cheat on me.” Things get more explicit in the subsequent examples. One text, in particular, sees West claim that his genitalia is “racist” due to his sexual preferences. I’m going to stare at pictures of white woman with black a*ses,” he allegedly wrote. “And beat the sh*t out of my racist d**k.” It should be noted that the latter example was a text that Pisciotta recalled from memory. Pisciotta was fired from West’s company in October 2022. The former Chief of Staff claimed that West offered her $3 million as a severence package, but has yet to pay her.

Pisciotta is reportedly suing for breach of contract, sexual harassment, wrongful termination and hostile work environment. This is not the first time Kanye West has been accused of questionable behavior by his ex-employees. In 2022, NBC claimed that West paid a settlement to a former employee who claimed West praised Adolf Hitler during work meetings. Five other employees have attested to the fact that the rapper has brought up Hitler in professional settings. West’s camp has yet to comment on these latest allegations.
