Team ROC, the social justice and philanthropic arm of Roc Nation, has taken up the cause of Jermelle English Jr., who was unjustly and forcefully apprehended by the Kenosha Police Department at an Applebee’s in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Attorney Alex Spiro, renowned for representing prominent figures like Shawn “JAY-Z” Carter, Elon Musk, Robert Kraft, and Naomi Osaka, will lead the legal effort to clear English’s name and explore potential civil suits against those responsible.

The incident, which unfolded in mid-July, saw Kenosha police officers entering the restaurant in pursuit of hit-and-run suspects. Disturbing video footage shows English Jr. pleading his innocence before multiple officers aggressively subdued him while he held his infant child.

Team ROC Managing Director Dania Diaz condemned the incident, stating, “The reckless arrest of Jermelle English Jr. and the careless endangerment of his infant child by the Kenosha Police Department is an absolute travesty.” The organization is committed to supporting English Jr. and his family, demanding justice, and holding the involved officers accountable.

This incident comes three years after the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, a tragic event that further underscored the nationwide issue of police brutality.

Team ROC has a history of advocating for justice, previously organizing rallies and providing legal assistance to those affected by police-related issues, including paying legal fees for peaceful demonstrators arrested during their advocacy for justice in the Alvin Cole case.

However, Doja is looking to get rid of the pop label. Now, she wants to be a much edgier artist who is known for taking risks. Moreover, she is looking to ditch some of her pop fans who she believes have fallen for a “lesser” style of music.

This is all well and good, although fans felt like tracks such as “Paint The Town Red” were just yet another extension of what she’s already been doing. With her new album Scarlet dropping on September 22nd, fans want to see something a bit different. Well, on Friday, that is exactly what she gave us with the track “Demons.” This song had actually leaked on Twitter already, however, we now have the full version right in front of us.

Doja Cat Brings The Energy

Interestingly enough, the track sounds like something you would hear from the likes of Baby Keem and Kendrick Lamar. From the horn sections to the flows, there is a lot of “Melodic Blue” in here. Although, Doja puts her own spin on which leads to a pretty cool track. There are some great flows here and the lyrics are what you would expect from this new, edgier version of Doja.

Lil Wayne is easily one of the biggest legends in the hip-hop world. Overall, if you were to ask people who their favorite MC is, more often than not, they would say it is Wayne. He remains in a lot of people’s top 10s, and that probably will not change anytime soon. However, it has been a while since we’ve gotten a new album or even a song from him. Sure, he dropped the new Undisputed theme song, although that hardly counts.

Thankfully, it was revealed earlier this week that Wayne would be coming through with a brand-new song called “Kat Food.” Given the name of the track, fans were very curious as to what we would be getting here. Over the course of his career, Wayne has given a plethora of different flows, production choices, and overall sounds. That said, every new Wayne single always seems to give us something special. Below, you can listen to what Wayne has been cooking up. Needless to say, it’s yet another example of the artist trying to evolve.

Lil Wayne Is Back

With this track, there is some interesting production that feels a bit off-kilter at the beginning. However, the track eventually evolves into something bouncier, which allows Wayne’s flow to settle down. The artist gives us plenty of cat metaphors throughout the track, and his lyricism is on point, once again. If you have always loved Wayne, then this track will definitely be for you. Although, some may not love this new direction.

Such is the dynamic pairing of hip-hop giants Mic Nickels and Wu-Tang legend Method Man on their explosive track, “El Matador”. A perfect but unexpected collab between an untamed underground emcee and one of hip-hop’s most renowned voices, “El Matador” has made waves since it hit the streaming platforms in July.

The hard-hitting, anthemic track demands attention from the very first beat. Mic Nickels’ verse is a masterclass in storytelling, with the artist weaving a tale of struggle and triumph. His lyrics are raw and honest, painting a vivid picture of life in the inner city. Method Man’s verse, on the other hand, is a display of his trademark flow and wordplay. “The idea behind the track was to discuss how one deals with their opponents, almost how a matador plays with their aggressor,” Mic Nickels explains. “The premise came to me after reading The Sun Also Rises, by Hemingway. I wrote and recorded it before any emcee listened, so it doesn’t cater toward Meth or anyone else’s style. Just pure poetry.” Method Man came in after MF DOOM, whom Mic Nickels initially approached for the collabo, passed before the project was ready. It’s been a match made in hip-hop heaven. 

Since its release, “El Matador” has been well-received by fans, with many praising the duo’s chemistry and the song’s hard-hitting beat. Several reviewers have described it as a “heady hip-hop success” and a “lyrical masterpiece,” solidifying Mic Nickels’ position as a formidable solo artist. His skills as a producer prominently shone through the track’s hard-hitting beat and powerful lyrics that are as entertaining as they are thought-provoking. “El Matador’s” bass-heavy energy doesn’t disappoint either.

Chance the Rapper also went by a different name. Chance The Rapper joined Ebro Darden for an in-person conversation at Chicago’s flagship Apple Michigan Avenue Store. Their discussion centered the momentous 10th anniversary of Chance’s breakthrough mixtape, Acid Rap. In this engaging interview, Chance shared he almost was “Tony Jizzle.”

“My original name for a short period of time was Tony Jizzle,” Chance revealed. “It would’ve been a whole different trajectory. Still in the same space I’m in, but just a different path to getting right back here.”

He added, “I could rhyme a lot of things with Jizzle and it was just like I always wanted the name Tony. Tony or Max when I was a kid. I wanted to be white when I was little, man, I wanted a name like Tony or Max or I don’t know, some cool Scott.”

As we all know, Chance decided to stick with a variation of his birth name, bringing him much success.

“I feel like Chance the Rapper is also a cool name,” Chance said. “You don’t know that many people named Chance and then it’s like you could just be like it’s Chance. I’d be like Chance who? You know in Chicago they call me Chance da Rapper. Really they say Chandler rapper.”
