Gunna’s Former Attorney Asks For Defendant In Donald Trump RICO Case To Have Trial Severed

Ray Smith is one of the 18 people charged by the state of Georgia in their election interference case against former President Donald Trump. He has now requested a severing of his trial, per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Smith, an Atlanta-based attorney, is accused of meeting with alternate GOP electors at the state capitol to have them cast their electoral votes for Trump. He is also accused of having those electors sign false statements declaring Trump the winner of the 2020 election. Furthermore, Smith is accused of submitting falsified documents to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Rafensperger. These documents reportedly declared Trump the winner of the election. Smith was charged with 12 crimes after voluntarily surrendering on August 23.

However, Smith has now requested that his trial be severed from that of the other defendant. “This solution will also reduce the amount of time any jury will be required to be empaneled,” Smith’s legal team wrote. “The experience learned by this Court in the YSL gang trial. Jury selection that lasted (and is still in progress) over eight months, and a trial that is expected to last another eight months (at least) – is a lesson learned that should inform any Court about the dangers of pursuing a joint trial for over a dozen defendants.” As noted in this statement, Smith’s precedent for this is the ongoing YSL RICO trial against Young Thug and other members of the Atlanta organization.

Trump Attorney Cites YSL Trial

“The prosecution, no doubt, will protest that the defendants were part of a nationwide enterprise. The defense will vigorously contest this at trial, but the argument is irrelevant to the issue of severance. The prosecution cannot dictate the length of trial, and the prejudice suffered by the defendants (and the judge, and the jury, and the judicial system in general) simply by overcharging a case and exaggerating the scope of its enterprise,” the statement continued. As previously mentioned, a jury has yet to be seated in the YSL trial. That sprawling case has seen multiple severings, with the number of defendants currently reduced to nine.

Furthermore, there is another notable link between the two cases. Don Samuel, who is serving as Smith’s lead attorney, previously represented Gunna in the YSL case. Infamously, Gunna accepted a plea deal and no longer faces charges, unlike Young Thug and others. However, this has led Gunna to be labeled as a rat by many members of the rap community. At the time of writing, no date has been set to hear the motion on severing Smith’s charges.

The song, “I Suppose,” is all about being at the top of the rap game even with people coming for you, but ignoring all of the outside noise. Knucks oozes confidence all over the glamorous trap production that Kenny Beats provides. The chorus, which is below, is so catchy and his unwavering personality sets up the rest of the track perfectly.

His verse is also great, as he raps, “Don’t even chat to me ’bout features, G /
N***** gotta pay me for the quote (What).” Then, when Larry June comes in, his post-chorus shows off his singing ability and he nails it. It is a nice segway into his verse where he thinks back to his past. However, it is about the journey and the struggles that make you great. He raps, “I been goin’ through motions, tryna make it home / Through these ups and downs, tryna right my wrongs / I still think about them days, I was losin’ hope / It’s levels to success, my n****, you the G.O.A.T.”

Overall, this song is really well put together. A lot of the credit deserves to go to Kenny Beats. He continues to lay down some terrific beats in the studio. Kanye West remains in Europe, having spent the past few months in Italy with his partner Bianca Censori. However, recent pictures show that West made the 1050-mile trip to Stradbally, Ireland. West was visiting the tiny Irish town to attend the Electric Picnic Festival, an arts and music event that was been held annually since 2004. Furthermore, West’s attendance was highlighted by a picture of the rapper hugging musician Steve Lacy. Lacy first gained prominence as the guitarist of The Internet. However, he has been cultivating a serious solo career for himself over the last few years. His sophomore album, 2022’s Gemini Rights, peaked at #7 on the Billboard 200.

West and Lacy have been friends for some time, getting matching tattoos along with Lil Uzi Vert in 2022. However, Lacy appeared to distance himself from West after the latter’s infamous anti-Semitic tirades on social media. Despite this, there does not appear to be any bad blood between the pair. At least, that’s the assumption based on the photos now circulating online. Furthermore, fans were excited to see the two reunite. Many fans are now hoping that Lacy will feature on the album that West is reportedly preparing to release this year. That would be a chance of pace, as Lacy said the pair “had no plans to work on music together” when asked about the possibility last year.

However, West’s appearance in Ireland was significant for another reason. The Italian public has reportedly been growing more and more discontent with West’s behavior while in the nation. First, there was significant outrage after he and Censori stepped out in sheer outfits. Both their outfits left almost nothing to the imagination. Italy, despite holding a cultural stereotype about sexual permissiveness, is a deeply Catholic nation. This engrained cultural faith was cited as a major reason for the outrage against the couple. However, it may be West’s most recent actions that made it seem like a good idea to leave the country for a while.

Earlier this week, a fresh wave of outrage was directed at West. He was spotted mooning tourists while riding on a riverboat. Later in the same boat ride, West appeared to be the recipient of a sexual act from Censori while fully in view of the general public. This led to more hatred of the couple from the Italian population. Some went as far as to call for the couple’s arrest and deportation. While it is believed that West traveled to Ireland willingly, it also seems that getting out of Italy for a little while might have been the right idea.

In true DJ Khaled fashion, he brought out a load of heavy hitters including, 2 Chainz, Wiz Khalifa, Roddy Ricch, Coi Leray, Offset, and Lil Wayne, to perform with him.

DJ Khaled breezed through some of his biggest songs, including “All I Do Is Win.” Wiz Khalifa played “Young, Wild, & Free,” as the two sang along to the carefree track and Coi Leray performed her hit song, “Players’.

Celebrities spotted at the Los Angeles show included Kris Jenner, Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, Sofia Vergara, Pedro Pascal, Gabrielle Union, Keke Palmer, Kelly Rowland, Lil Wayne, Offset, Roddy Rich, Issa Rae, Lebron James, Sarah Paulson and Tracee Ellis Ross. Fans attending Beyoncé’s SoFi Stadium second show will also get a chance to see DJ Khaled as an opening act — possibly with new and/or returning special guests to join him. He first revealed the big news through Instagram.

“I’m telling you now GET THERE AT 7 PM!” DJ Khaled captioned his post from earlier this afternoon. “Trust me! History in the making!”
