Teezo Touchdown Teamed Up With A24 To Cover A Talking Heads Deep Cut For A ‘Stop Making Sense’ Re-Release

Last August, film nerd favorite indie distributor A24 announced it had acquired the rights to re-release the Talking Heads concert film, Stop Making Sense. Then, early this year, A24 revealed that a tribute album to the film — and the works of the quirky, inventive band’s expansive discography — called Everyone’s Getting Involved: A Tribute To Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense was in the works (with a suitably David Byrne-ish title, no less). After sharing Paramore’s cover of “Burning Down The House” last month, the next release from the tribute is Teezo Touchdown’s cover of “Making Flippy Floppy.”

The Texas artist is a fitting choice, as his own music refuses categorization or simplification. An album cut from the Heads’ 1983 album Speaking In Tongues, “Making Flippy Floppy” is perhaps less well-known than tracks like “Once In A Lifetime” or “This Must Be the Place,” but its funky bassline and elastic groove translate well in Teezo’s hands. While it’s a relatively straightforward cover that doesn’t try to get too cheeky or experimental, Teezo’s enthusiasm for the material is clear in his full-throated delivery of each line.

Everyone’s Getting Involved: A Tribute To Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense will mirror the original soundtrack album’s tracklist, with contributions from BADBADNOTGOOD, Blondshell, The Cavemen, Chicano Batman Feat. Money Mark, DJ Tunez, El Mató a un Policía Motorizado, Girl in Red, Jean Dawson, Kevin Abstract, The Linda Lindas, Lorde, Miley Cyrus, The National, and Toro y Moi

2024 looks like the year for cover projects inspired by films; the Bob Marley biopic One Love spawned its own covers EP with takes on Wailers classics from the likes of Leon Bridges, Daniel Caesar, and more.

Joe Budden Sits Down With Candace Owens, Peter Rosenberg Responds

Joe Budden welcomed Candace Owens onto his podcast for an upcoming episode. The conservative commentator posted a photo of herself with Budden behind the scenes on her Instagram Story, on Tuesday. In response, Peter Rosenberg slammed Budden for platforming “bigots, trolls, and immoral a-holes.”

Posing with Budden, Owens captioned the photo: “It happened.” No further details about when the podcast will be released were made available. Rosenberg responded on Twitter: “So sick of the idea that conversations need to be had with bigots, trolls, and immoral a-holes… exchanging ideas among smart good people is useful… hearing a hateful hack babble on about hate is not worth anyone’s time.”

Candace Owens Speaks At CPAC

ORLANDO, FLORIDA – FEBRUARY 25: Candace Owens speaks during the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) at The Rosen Shingle Creek on February 25, 2022 in Orlando, Florida. The interview comes after Owens recently voiced her opinion on Ice Spice during an episode of her show. “If you’re wondering whether or not it’s a good song, what do you think? It’s called ‘Think U The S**t (Fart),’” Owens said before playing a clip from the song. “Now I think we can all admit that we’ve fallen as a society. I mean, I wouldn’t say that was Mozart or Beethoven, but I’m not all of these mainstream media publications that routinely run to defend this kind of music similar to what they did with ‘WAP’ the most disgusting and filthiest lyrics I’ve ever read. They will then sit down and write an article trying to convince you that what you just heard was magical and they did this with this Ice Spice song.”

Candace Owens Poses With Joe Budden

More recently, Owens had a more positive reaction to Beyonce’s venture into country music with the song, “Texas Hold ‘Em.” Be on the lookout for further updates on Joe Budden’s conversation with Candace Owens on HotNewHipHop.

GORDO Lays Down A House Beat For Young Dolph On “Kill For This S***”

Young Dolph’s legacy in hip-hop was assuredly never fade. The Memphis rapper has heavily influenced the new sound of the city. It has helped make it one of the hottest spots for hip-hop stars, making it an established hub for the genre. It will be three years on November 17 since his untimely passing and the fans miss him more and more every day. Today, we have another posthumous track as Young Dolph and GORDO are teaming up for “Kill For This S***.”

GORDO may not sound familiar to many, but maybe referring to him as Carnage or DJ Carnage will help. The multi-genre producer has worked with some of the topflight rappers in the game from Migos, Young Thug, and more. This now GORDO’s first collaboration with Dolph and it is not your typical Memphis trap track. The Guatemalan-American DJ works in the EDM and house lanes too and that is the direction for “Kill For This S***.”

Listen To “Kill For This S***” By GORDO & Young Dolph

Unfortunately, while it is unique to hear Dolph over a house instrumental, the song does not go anywhere. It repeats the chorus twice, which is repetitive itself. It has the typical fast drums and synths and a beat drop or two. While we can respect the effort, it just does not land all that much.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “Kill For This S***,” By GORDO and Young Dolph? Do you like hearing him over a house beat, why or why not? Is GORDO one of the more talented producers we have going in hip-hop? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding GORDO and Young Dolph. Finally, stay with us for the most informative song posts throughout the week.

My young n**** ‘nem, man, they gon’ kill for this s*** (B****)
Shakin’ my head, Dolph, you just too real for this s*** (B****)

Asian Doll “Prays” That Akademiks “Comes Out Of The Closet” After Goes In On Yung Miami

Asian Doll had some choice words for DJ Akademiks following his tirade against Yung Miami. The media personality has undoubtedly gained a reputation for his hot takes surrounding the culture. Still, in recent times, it seems like his energy toward women isn’t always the same for men. As a result, Asian Doll put Akademiks on blast in a scathing post on X where she alleged the podcast host has STDs and both physically and sexually assaulted women.

“YALL LETS ALL BOW OUR HEADS & PRAY FOR @Akademiks,” she began. “PRAY THAT GOD FORGIVES HIM FOR ALL THE FEMALES HIM & HIS FRIENDS HAS SEXUALLY ASSAULTED I PRAY YOU FORGIVE HIM FOR SPREADING SEXUAL-TRANSMITTED DISEASES & BEATING ON VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.” It should be noted that Akademiks previously faced allegations related to assault. However, he later stated that police already investigated the claims and no charges were laid.

Asian Doll Alleges Akademiks Is In The Closet

Afterward, she shifted gears and claimed the rapper’s constant attacks on women are intended to mask his sexuality. “I PRAY YOU SEE THE GOOD IN ALL HIS EVILNESS HE HAS STORED IN HIS HEART I PRAY HE COMES OUT THAT CLOSET SO HE CAN STOP ATTACKING FEMALES ON THE INTERNET WITH LIES & ACCUSING US OF THINGS WE DIDNT DO BECAUSE HIS FANTASY IS TO GET TRAINED BY 4 DRILL RAPPERS,” she added. Despite the prayer, it appears that Asian Doll ultimately hopes for Akademiks’ downfall.

“I PRAY HE LIVE IN HIS TRUTH& JUST ADMIT HE IS A LOWDOWN DIRTY PIG [pig emoji] I PRAY HE NEVER WALK THROUGH THEM GATES SEND HIS ASS DOWNSTAIRS…… amen,” she wrote. It seems like their rift will continue for the foreseeable future. We’ll keep you posted with any further updates surrounding Asian Doll and Akademiks’s feuds. Check her post above and sound off with your thoughts in the comment section below. Is Asian Doll out of pocket? Let us know.

Washington Commanders Searching For New Stadium Sponsor

FedEx has canceled its naming rights deal with the Washington Commanders two years before the deal expired. Not only does that mean the Commanders miss out on $15 million of expected revenue, but it comes a day after the Commanders announced a $75-million stadium renovation plan. The move caught the team by surprise, according to sources who spoke with ESPN. However, these sources noted that the team had begun the process of finding a new sponsor in the past months.

Furthermore, the new ownership group of the Commanders has also been considering a brand-new stadium for the team. While they can extend their agreement with Prince George’s County past 2027, the team is also considering opening a new stadium in 2030. Sites in Virginia, DC, and Maryland are all being considered. “We have already started the process of identifying our next stadium naming rights partner – a partner who will play a crucial role in ushering in the next era of not only Commanders football, but also a robust slate of top live events and concerts,” a statement from the team read.

Washington Commanders Sale Could Trigger Another Name Change

However, is the stadium name the only thing going to change? The Commanders could not be the Commanders for much longer. “I would not be surprised at all if we see a name change and a complete rebranding,” ESPN‘s Don Van Natta Jr. said on The Rich Eisen Show. While it would be the team’s fourth name since 2019, a complete rebrand to really mark the start of a new era for the team. This may already be more than a rumor, as sharp-eyed social media users noted that an alumni gifting included swag that appeared to omit the Commanders moniker. Online, fans appeared split over the possibility of a new name. While some embraced the idea of removing the overly-generic “Commanders” name, others were more focused on achieving on-field results instead.

If the team were to change their name, it would need to be something bold and memorable. For example, George Washington University recently announced they would be changing their athletic nickname from the Colonials to the Revolutionaries. While thematically appropriate, it was chosen in place of the much cooler “Blue Fog”. Personally, the team should forgo the tradition of choosing something fierce or militaristic and instead choose something that embodies the city, like Harris’ other teams. If they wanted to go really out there with the name, how about the Washington/DC Half-Smokes? What do you think? Should Washington change their name? And if so, what should they change it to? Let us know in the comments.

WWE Legend Virgil Dies At 61

Virgil, the WWE legend best known as being Ted DiBiase’s right-hand man, has died at the age of 61. Virgil, whose legal name was Michael Jones, had suffered from a series of medical issues in previous years. However, his death will still come as a shock to many of his fans.

Virgil debuted in 1985 and soon became a part of Ted DiBiase’s “Million Dollar Man” persona after moving to the WWE. During the height of the WWE’s soap opera-esque writing, Virgil was DiBiase’s money man and enforcer. However, in one of the biggest twists of that era of WWE, Virgil would betray DiBiase at Royal Rumble 1991 and would later beat DiBiase, with the help of Rowdy Roddy Piper, at Wrestlemania VII. Virgil would retire in 2000 but made appearances across various promotions between 2006 and 2019.

Virgil Joins List Of Recent WWE Deaths

However, Virgil is just the latest WWE icon to pass away. In June 2023, The Iron Sheik was announced to have passed away at the age of 81. Sheik was called “a true legend, a force of nature, and an iconic figure who left an incredible mark on the world of professional wrestling.” Born in Iran, The Sheik began his career as an Olympic wrestler and coach, moving to the United States around 1970. He first joined the WWE, then the WWF, in 1978 and even got a shot at the title against Bob Backlund. However, Sheik left the promotion in 1980. After fighting in a number of southern regional promotions, Sheik rejoined the WWF in 1983 and briefly became the WWF champion after forcing a submission from Backlund. However, The Sheik would only reign for 28 days before losing to Hulk Hogan.

Transitioning to tag-team fights later in the decade, Sheik won the first-ever tag-team belt at the inaugural WrestleMania in 1985. However, Sheik would leave the promotion in 1987 after being arrested and breaking kayfabe. The Sheik was arrested for being under the influence of cocaine. However, more pressingly for wrestling fans, he had been arrested alongside his on-screen rival, Hacksaw Jim Duggan. He briefly returned to the WWF in 1988 but left later that same year. Sheik would have one final stint with the WWF in 1991/92.

Dame Dash’s Roc-A-Fella Shares: Cam’ron & Mase Discuss Their “Hypothetical” Purchase

2024 has only just begun, but already the news cycle in the hip-hop world has taken us on a rollercoaster. For the femcees, the drama between Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj, as well as a slightly less tense feud between Latto and Ice Spice has been at the centre of internet discourse. As for male artists, the Diddy scandal unearthed by Cassie continues to bring forth other damning allegations, meanwhile, Dame Dash is doing everything in his power to hold onto his Roc-A-Fella shares amid a time of financial strife.

Last week it was reported that the music executive would have to sell his stake in the company to pay off an $800K+ debt he owes. Now, sources are saying Cam’ron and Mase might be the new owners of those shares; these rumours were addressed during a new episode of It Is What It Is this week. When the rappers’ co-host, Stat Baby, asked about the validity of the gossip, they couldn’t help but giggle about the situation for some time. “Let’s just say hypothetically, right?” Mase said with a grin while pulling money out of his coat pocket.

In response to their unofficial confirmation, some hip-hop heads think this is the best move possible for Dash. “I mean, Dame ain’t tryna seel it to Jay, so s**t, why not? I say ask for $3M and walk away knowing it’s in good hands. If Cam and Mase acquire it, then it’s win for them both ’cause now Cam with the ROC and Mase get a win ’cause of those jabs Hov took at ’em,” one person wrote under @thehiphopwolf’s post.

Dame Dash is in a tough spot, with upwards of $800K still owed to a film producer who’s actively trying to get his money. Thankfully, Jay-Z and “Biggs” Burke are doing their part to keep his Roc-A-Fella shares in his name, though this rumoured deal has the potential to shake everything up. Read more about that at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

Earlier this week, Candance Owens showed support for Beyoncé’s Country music. In the latest episode of The Candace Owens Podcast, Ownes details Queen Bey’s country history.

“Some people are saying that this is not very country,” Candace says. “I’m going to defend Beyoncé on that point because Beyoncé’s kind of always been country. She’s more country than Taylor Swift ever was for sure. Beyoncé is from Houston, Texas. She’s always had a twang… [Taylor Swift] put on a fake twang. Everyone was okay with it. You can’t say that Taylor Swift can do it, and Beyonce can’t.”

All hail Queen Bey as she once again presides over the Billboard Hot 100. Beyoncé has taken over the top spot on the single’s chart with “Texas Hold ‘Em.”

The single is the ninth chart-topper for Beyoncé, her most recent being “Break My Soul” in 2022.

According to Luminate, “Texas Hold ‘Em” saw significant growth in various metrics during the tracking week of Feb. 16-22. The song garnered 29 million streams, marking a 51% increase, and received 16.1 million radio airplay audience impressions, experiencing a remarkable surge of 233%. Additionally, the track sold 29,000 downloads, albeit experiencing a decrease of 25%. With these impressive statistics, “Texas Hold ‘Em” earned the distinction of being the top Streaming and Airplay Gainer on the Hot 100 chart.

Over the weekend, Dolly Parton saluted Beyoncé’s musical foray into country. “I’m a big fan of Beyoncé and very excited that she’s done a country album,” Parton wrote on Instagram. “So congratulations on your Billboard Hot Country number one single.”

She added, “Can’t wait to hear the full album!”
