Young Thug’s legal representation attempts to stop prosecutors from displaying a video of a co-defendant’s arrest during the trial. According to WSB-TV, attorneys are attempting to suppress the arrest video of Shannon Stillwell.

Stillwell was arrested for murder on March 17, 2022. The arrest occurred during a religious ceremony involving the alleged sacrifice of goats. The legal team states showing that the video will only provide prejudice against Stillwell and Young Thug.

Young Thug, born Jeffrey Williams, and Stillwell are two of eight on a RICO indictment of the YOung SLime Life gang. The trial has been in jury selection since January.

According to several reports, a court hearing occurred today (July 21) in which Young Thug and his lawyers requested a bond but was once again denied. This means the 31-year-old trap rapper will remain in custody throughout the YSL RICO trial.

Thug’s lawyers argued that the alleged YSL leader’s health was suffering, stating, “This lifestyle has caused physical harm to Mr. Williams.” They also said that his prior kidney problems and food with little nutrition in jail had caused their client to gain excessive weight. The judge denied their bond motion because he stated he was concerned about Thug’s influence.

Yak Gotti’s bond motion was also denied, with the court citing that Gotti was a flight risk and mentioned an alleged physical confrontation with another inmate. His attorneys argued that Fulton County Jail staff members assaulted Gotti, but their claims were unfounded.

YSL Rapper Yak Gotti’s Mother Was Arrested For Trying Sneak Him Contraband In Court

As the racketeering trial against Atlanta’s YSL crew gears up, another arrest has been made — but not connected with the original 56-count indictment that has Young Thug facing a massive sentence and fans calling Gunna a snitch. Latasha Kendrick, the mother of YSL rapper Yak Gotti, was arrested on Tuesday (January 17) and charged with a criminal attempt to commit a misdemeanor after trying to pass the rapper a bag reportedly filled with tobacco and rolling papers at the Fulton County Courthouse.

WSB-TV reports that the mother of Gotti’s child, Nyesha Cox, alerted the rapper’s attorney to the contraband. Kendrick alleges that Cox was the one who requested the bag and an arrest warrant has been issued for the younger woman as well.

Gotti is one of 14 remaining defendants in the case and faces charges including conspiracy to commit murder, theft by receiving stolen property, and participation in criminal street gang activity. Other defendants include YSL founder Young Thug, who is charged with possession of illegal firearms and drugs, while other YSL members like Gunna and Unfoonk have accepted plea deals that suspended any sentences and allowed them to go free ahead of the trial.

The trial is expected to last up to six months, with the Fulton County District Attorney’s office accusing YSL of being a “hybrid street gang” rather than just a record label.

YSL Case: Yak Gotti’s Mom Charged For Sneaking In Tobacco Products

An update has been given about the YSL case involving Young Thug and 13 of his co-defendants—one being Yak Gotti. Atlanta Journal-Constitution reporter Jozsef Papp previously stated that Judge Glanville announced an investigation was launched after someone attempted to smuggle contraband to one of the defendants. Today (January 19), WSB-TV identified the individual as Yak Gotti’s mother.

The outlet stated that 51-year-old Latasha Kendrick was arrested and booked into the Fulton County jail. She has also been charged with criminal attempt to commit a misdemeanor.

Gotti, real name Deamonte Kendrick, is facing several charges that also include a 2015 murder.

It’s alleged that the rapper’s mother visited the courthouse while her son was in court during jury selection for the trial. Douglas Weinstein, Gotti’s attorney, alerted a deputy that the mother of the rapper’s child, Nyesha Cox, texted him to say she put a “sealed envelope inside the bag.”

Upon searching, deputies located the item in question. Inside, they reportedly found “tobacco rolling papers and tobacco products.”

Further, Latasha denied knowing anything about the envelope. She said she was simply delivering the on behalf of Cox. According to reports, Cox has not yet been arrested, but a warrant has been issued.

Meanwhile, the trial has kicked off with a lengthy jury selection process. It was reported that approximately 600 people were vetted for the jury, and it hasn’t been pleasant for all candidates.

One woman was said to have skipped a hearing because she took a trip to the Dominican Republic. As a punishment, in lieu of jail time, the judge also ordered her to write a 30-page essay.

Additionally, Eight co-defendants, including Gunna, have been released after agreeing to plea deals.

The Lyrics To Young Thug’s ‘Slime Sh*t’ Were Read In Court During Jury Selection

The trial for Young Thug and his Young Stoner Life crew’s RICO charges is officially underway. This past week, jury selection began for the court hearings.

According to a report from WSB TV, jurors saw and heard Judge Ural Glanville read lyrics from some of Young Thug and YSL’s songs during the first parts of jury selection this past Wednesday. Glanville particularly homed in on the anti-cop lyrics of one Thug’s songs, “Slime Sh*t.”

Glanville read the lyrics, “Hey, this that slime sh*t, hey/ Y L sh*t, hey/ Killin’ 12 sh*t, hey/ F*ck a jail sh*t, hey/ … Cookin’ white brick, hey, hey/ […] I’m not new to this, hey, I’m so true to this, hey I done put a whole slime on a hunnid licks.”

Later on, he read the lyrics from the verses of some of the other YSL affiliates, including Yak Gotti. On Gotti’s verse, he raps, “Slime or get slimed / In the VIP and I got that pistol on my hip/ You prayin’ that you live / I’m prayin’ that I hit / Hey, this that slime shit…F*ck, f*ck the police / in a high speed.”

Young Thug, Gunna, and 26 other YSL associates were arrested in May 2022 and were charged with eight counts of violating the RICO Act. Gunna and a few others have taken plea deals, but Thug and the rest of the YSL affiliates have been in custody since. The trial is expected to begin on Monday, January 9.

Young Thug Was Charged With A Stack Of New Felonies In The RICO Case Against YSL

Atlanta news station WSB-TV reports Young Thug, who is currently incarcerated in Fulton County Jail awaiting trial on racketeering charges, has been assessed a litany of new charges including drug, firearm possession, and robbery charges. According to a statement given to XXL by the Fulton County District Attorney’s office, “Charges were added for defendants via re-indictment based on evidence found at arrests. When Mr. Williams was arrested on May 9, evidence was recovered that resulted in the additional charges, including a charge of possession of a machine gun.”

Back in May, Thug, Gunna, Yak Gotti, and other members of a purported street gang going by Young Slime Life, or YSL, were indicted on 56 counts of murder, armed robbery, and conspiring to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act (aka racketeering). Young Thug was initially indicted on the latter thanks to repeated mentions of YSL — also the acronym for his label, Young Stoner Life — in his lyrics. However, he was charged with seven additional felonies after police raided his home, including possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a dangerous weapon or silencer (which covers sawed-off-shotguns, sawed-off rifles, or machine guns). Many of the re-indictment charges are based on these.

Thug, Gotti, and Gunna have all pled “not guilty” and maintained their innocence, although they were also denied bail. Their trial was set for January 9, 2023.
