Young Thug’s YSL Trial: Judge & Prosecutor Get Into Heated Argument In Court

Fulton County Superior Court Chief Judge Ural Glanville called out District Attorney Adriane Love in court during Young Thug’s ongoing YSL RICO trial on Wednesday. He was unhappy with the late-minute submission of a 105-page PowerPoint presentation, which led to a shouting match between himself and the state’s attorney.

“That’s too late,” he remarked, before wagging his finger. “The evidence is excluded. I’m gonna exclude because I told you that this was gonna happen. We’re excluding that and I’m gonna exclude the PowerPoint that you all submitted. You’re not gonna wholesale introduce it.” From there, the prosecutor approaches the podium and argues that they attempted to reach out to the defense on multiple occasions.

Young Thug’s Attorney Arrives In Court

Brian Steel, attorney for rapper Young Thug, arrives at the Fulton County Courthouse on November 27, 2023 in Atlanta, Georgia. Opening statements are set to begin in the case against 31-year-old US rapper Young Thug and 28 others, who are facing a racketeering indictment accusing the defendants of a number of offenses that support an overarching conspiracy charge, including murder, assault, carjacking, drug dealing, and theft. The judge fires back: “But you all should not be identifying this stuff the moment of trial while the jury’s sitting in a box. I am not gonna tolerate this any further.” Over the next two minutes, tensions only escalate. Eventually, the jury returns and the judge demands the prosector sit back down. Check out the heated interaction in the video below.

The YSL Rico Trial Gets Heated

The latest drama comes after Chance The Rapper made headlines the day before for labeling the case a “circus of a trial.” “For my birthday I just wish my brother was home with his family,” he wrote on Instagram. “This circus of a trial has had him in custody for over a year and with all the legal errors, jury misconduct, and conflicts of interest by the state he deserves to at the very least fight this from home.” Be on the lookout for further updates on Young Thug on HotNewHipHop.

Young Thug Trial: State Confirms Whether Or Not Gunna Will Be A Witness

Overall, the Young Thug trial has been a bit of a confusing mess as of late. Although many have been following along closely, there have been all sorts of bizarre happenings that have fans concerned. For instance, witnesses have been blowing out mics while the state, the defense, and the judge have all gotten into verbal spats. Moreover, it is being said that this trial could take all the way until 2027 to play out. It feels like Thugger and all of hip-hop are on trial here, which makes it so that the stakes have never been higher.

Meanwhile, fans have been curious about where Gunna fits in all of this. He was arrested at the same time as Young Thug back in May of 2022. While he was in jail for a while, he was eventually freed. This subsequently led to accusations of being a snitch. Numerous artists throughout hip-hop decided to cut ties with the artist, and since that time, he has been rebuilding his career. On Tuesday, however, the snitch allegations were seemingly put to rest. This is because the state confirmed that Gunna will not be a witness in the case.

Good News For Gunna As The Young Thug Trial Continues

There is an extremely lengthy list of witnesses that still need to be called to the stand. That said, none of them are Gunna. This means he will not have to show up in court as his former mentor continues to face a potentially life-altering sentence. Only time will tell if artists who previously denounced Gunna, will make nice with him. Lil Baby, Drake, and even Metro Boomin have distanced themselves from the artist. Unfortunately for Gunna, this new information might not be enough to shift the perception.

Let us know what you think of the Young Thug trial so far, in the comments section down below. Do you believe that this is going to take three years to play out? What do you make of Gunna not being a witness in all of this? Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. Young Thug has been in jail ever since May of 2022 when he was arrested on RICO charges in Georgia. Overall, the YSL RICO trial is one that could have major implications for the future of hip-hop. Of course, this raised some suspicion given his relationship with Mariah The Scientist. Recently, a sensitive call between Mariah and Thugger was leaked online, and it led to lots of jokes. Consequently, fans were quick to call Mariah The Scientist out for getting played. Last night, Young Thug decided to respond to the controversy.

Young Thug Seemingly References RICO Case On Kid Cudi’s “INSANO”

Today, Kid Cudi finally unleashed his eagerly-anticipated ninth studio album, Insano. As expected, the project boasts numerous high-profile features from the likes of Lil Wayne, Travis Scott, ASAP Rocky, and more. He even tapped Young Thug for the track “RAGER BOYZ,” amid the YSL founder’s ongoing RICO trial.

As his defense team fights for the rapper’s freedom, Young Thug has continued to release music from behind bars. He unveiled a full album back in June, Business Is Business, and has gone on to appear on several other artists’ records. Of course, several of his songs allude to his persistent legal troubles, and his verse on Insano is no exception.

Kid Cudi & Young Thug Team Up For “RAGER BOYZ”

“Ayy, I told the judge, ‘I’m prolly biggest off’ / I told the b*tch she can’t be chargin’ me for Saint Laurent / Yeah, I told my baby not to break the law / I told my baby mama, careful not to get involved,” Young Thug rhymes. The chorus of the song, featuring both artists, also repeatedly emphasizes the sentiment, “Motherf*ck the law.” While fans appreciate Young Thug’s clever bars, some suspect that the judge might not, as prosecutors have already tried to use song lyrics against him in court.

As for Kid Cudi, he promises fans that there’s even more to come. After unveiling the 21-track Insano tracklist earlier this week, social media users made their disappointment known, as it was rumored that the project would include 40 songs. He took to social media to respond amid the chatter, reminding followers that a deluxe edition is in the works. “I said there will be a deluxe,” he wrote. “Patience.” What do you think of Young Thug seemingly mentioning his court case on “RAGER BOYZ” with Kid Cudi? How are you liking Insano so far? What’s your favorite song on the new album? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Mariah The Scientist Attends Young Thug’s RICO Trial Day 2, Attorney Claims Yves Saint Laurent Jeans Inspired YSL

Earlier this week, opening statements in Young Thug’s eagerly-awaited RICO trial began following months of delays. Mariah The Scientist, the rapper’s girlfriend, came through in style to show her support. The trial continued yesterday, and once again, Mariah attended. She was seen spectating, looking to be in considerably good spirits as her man fights for his freedom.

It doesn’t come as much of a surprise that the “77 Degrees” performer has stuck by Young Thug’s side amid the court proceedings, as she’s been transparent about her decision to hold him down throughout his prison stay. Last month, she told Angela Yee that she knows he’s “the one,” and even later revealed their tentative plans to marry once he gets out. For the second day of trial, Mariah wore a simple navy jacket, going for a more understated look following the controversy her day one fit sparked.

Mariah The Scientist Appears In Court

For day one, she showed out in a sleek black suit, certainly turning heads. The white t-shirt she sported underneath her jacket is what mostly managed to get social media users talking, however. The top featured a subtle YSL logo, which raised some eyebrows considering the nature of the case.

Mariah’s t-shirt isn’t the only thing that prompted chatter, however. During the second day of the trial, Young Thug’s attorney defended his use of the term “Pushin P” in his 2022 track with Gunna and Future. According to him, the phrase means “Pushing Positivity,” which raised some doubt among social media users. Similarly, he claims that YSL’s name was actually inspired by Young Thug’s friends consistently rocking Yves Saint Laurent-brand women’s jeans, which featured the iconic acronym.

Young Thug’s “Take It To Trial” Lyrics Echo In Court Amid YSL RICO Trial

The YSL RICO trial kicked off on Monday. The proceedings witnessed a rocky start with frequent objections, delays, and even a mistrial request. This prompted Judge Ural Glanville to voice his discontent. Amid the legal turmoil, Fulton County Chief Deputy District Attorney Adriane Love took center stage by reciting lyrics from Young Thug’s track “Take It To Trial,” featuring Yak Gotti and Gunna.

Love painted Young Thug as a “wolf” in his YSL crew “pack,” suggesting a connection between the lyrics and real-life criminal activities. However, the defense’s objection to this portrayal led to a contentious courtroom atmosphere. Love clarified that the lyrics weren’t pursued to solve any crimes directly, stating, “We didn’t chase any of the lyrics to solve any murders. Law enforcement in Fulton County chased the murders and found the lyrics.”

YSL Rico Trial Update

As Love recited the lyrics in court, the gravity of their content became apparent. Lines like “For slimes you know I kill, trial, I done beat it twice, state. I’m undefeated like feds came and snatched me, don’t know” took center stage. The prosecutor emphasized the eerie significance these words held in the context of real-life events. However, Brian Steel, Young Thug’s defense attorney, took a different stance. He labeled his client as a “studio gangster,” as opposed to a real-life gangster. In an attempt to downplay the intensity of the lyrics, Steel argued, “Thug raps about cars all the time. They’re in the studio. They are creating music for us to listen to.” This argument positioned Young Thug as an artist exercising creative expression rather than a real-life perpetrator.

Adding another layer to the defense strategy, the attorney handling Young Thug’s YSL trial contested the very nature of the group. He asserted that the name “YSL” didn’t signify a gang but rather originated from Thug’s friends wearing women’s Yves Saint Laurent jeans. This unconventional explanation aimed to dismantle the prosecution’s narrative and present YSL as a creative collective rather than a criminal organization. As the trial unfolds, the clash between legal interpretations of Young Thug’s lyrics and the defense’s portrayal of him as a “studio gangster” adds an intriguing dimension to the ongoing courtroom saga. With tensions high, the YSL RICO trial promises to be an intriguing legal showdown in the world of hip-hop.

Young Thug’s RICO Case: Prosecutors Have Surprisingly Long List Of Witnesses

The long-awaited YSL RICO trial is scheduled to begin on November 27, and so far, it looks like prosecutors plan to call on quite a few witnesses. Young Thug’s attorney Brian Steel appeared in court today (November 16), requesting that Judge Ural Glanville exclude more than 300 of them at the upcoming trial. Prosecutors then confirmed that there are a whopping 737 of them in total.

Fulton County prosecutor Adriane Love defended the long list of potential witnesses. She claimed that they’re necessary in depicting the “pattern” of alleged racketeering. “It would be different if it were just one murder or just one aggravated assault or just one burglary on the indictment, your honor,” she explained. “But there is—there are lists of acts that we seek to show, to introduce as evidence to show the pattern of racketeering activity that they conspired to commit.”

Prosecutors Have 737 Witnesses

The news also follows the judge’s decision to allow lyrics to be used against members of YSL in court. Steel pushed for them not to be permitted to no avail. “Your honor, someone can look at that indictment and say one thing’s for sure: that’s not fantasy,” prosecutor Mike Carlson said in court. “People are dead and murdered and a gang exists.” Soon after the judge made his decision, prosecutors called attention to lyrics from Young Thug’s Juice WRLD collab, “Bad Boy.” They accused him of bragging about shooting at YFN Lucci’s mother in the track. “I shot at his mommy, now he no longer mention me,” the lyrics read.

While it’s been speculated that the lyrics reference YFN Lucci, there hasn’t been any official confirmation. Young Thug has remained behind bars since May of 2022. He is also now one of only six remaining defendants awaiting trial. What do you think of prosecutors’ long list of witnesses in Young Thug’s RICO case? Young Thug’s Comments On Lil Wayne Tour Bus Shooting Admissible In YSL RICO Trial

Back in 2015, Young Thug was taken into custody in Georgia. He spoke to police about Lil Wayne’s tour bus shooting, despite him being in jail on a separate charge. A majority of his conversation with police surrounded the shooting, and it went on for quite some time. While he was never charged in relation to the shooting, authorities thought he could have been involved, and chatted with him for roughly two hours about it.

Young Thug has pushed for the conversation to be suppressed, claiming that since he had no attorney present, it shouldn’t be used in his YSL RICO case. Unfortunately for him, however, Judge Ural Glanville ruled recently that since he chose to waive his right to have a lawyer present and was never charged, the conversation is admissible in court.

Young Thug Takes A Loss Ahead Of RICO Trial

“[Young Thug] o##### waived his Miranda rights before speaking with Detective Raissi and Agent Cunningham. [Young Thug’s]’ statements to them were voluntary and thus admissible. The evidence presented showed that [Young Thug] voluntarily waived his Miranda rights o#####, despite his refusal to sign the Miranda waiver form, after [Young Thug] was read his rights. An oral waiver of Miranda is a proper waiver of such rights,” Judge Glanville said.

As previously reported, his YSL RICO trial continues to see delays due to a jury selection process that’s taking longer than expected. It even broke a Georgia record earlier this week, becoming the longest jury selection process in the state’s history. Young Thug wants to call various major names to the witness stand to speak on his behalf once it begins. Reportedly, these people include T.I., Killer Mike, Lyor Cohen, and Trae Tha Truth. Young Thug Sees Little Progress In YSL RICO Trial, Jury Selection Moving At Snail’s Pace

Young Thug was arrested alongside Gunna and over two dozen others back in May of 2022. Overall, these individuals were all hit with RICO charges. Since that time, many of these men have been released. However, this has come with a lot of criticism and some accusations of snitching. Gunna knows this all too well as numerous artists in hip-hop have decided to never work with him again. As for Thugger, well, he is still waiting to go to trial. Unfortunately, things are moving incredibly slowly.

It seems like Young Thug is in the courtroom every single day. His lawyers are doing everything they can to make sure this trial is a speedy one. After all, it is every individual’s right to have a speedy trial. If they are not granted that, then there is an argument to be made that the prosecution is acting in bad faith. Regardless, Thugger is in a bind right now, and as it turns out, things are not getting much better. According to Jozsef Papp of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, there is an update in the case, although one that just leads to more waiting.

Young Thug Plays The Waiting Game

In the tweet above, you can see that there are two more jurors who have been qualified to partake in the trial. So far, over 30 people have been approved. However, none of them have actually officially been selected and seated. Instead, qualified jurors have to wait over a month just to be contacted again. From there, they will narrow down the pool and make a decision on who will get to be part of this RICO trial. This is a very tricky case, so it is no surprise that jury selection is taking an incredibly long time.

Hopefully, for Young Thug and others, the process begins to get faster over these coming weeks. In the meantime, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates regarding the trial. We will always keep you informed. Additionally, let us know what you think of these proceedings, in the comments section below.
