According to Yahoo News, the presiding  judge said, “I have considered those arguments. And I’ve considered the proffers made by the state, I’ve considered the arguments of the defense. At this point in time, though… I am still not convinced that what you’ve argued anew, and taking into account what I have heard already… I am going to deny bond.”

Prosecutors claim Thugger is the leader of the Young Slime Life street gang aka YSL, which Thug and his defense attorneys strongly deny.

Young Thug will remain behind bars in the Cobb County Jail until his trial begins in January 2023.

Even after facing a 56-count indictment along with 27 of his other YSL(Young Slime Life) cohorts, Young Thug is now facing a new set of charges in an indictment filed by the Fulton County Prosecutor’s Office on Tuesday(August 9), according to WSB TV in Atlanta.

Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffery Williams, was hit with a new gang charge, new drug charges, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a machine gun in the new indictment. Many of these charges stem from the raid executed on Williams’ Buckhead home on May 9.

According to Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’ office, the new indictment still includes all 28 members of YSL, but the new charges only involve Thug and four other YSL members. Willis contends that the new indictment enhances the prosecution’s case that Thug “performed for years as a leader of a criminal street gang.”

Thug’s attorney, Brian Steel, meanwhile, maintained his client’s innocence following his arrest in May. “I’ll tell you the response to any allegation: Mr. Williams committed no crime whatsoever and we will fight to my last drop of blood to clear him,” said Steel.

Young Thug will remain behind bars until his RICO trial, which as been set for January 9, 2023.

Nurse Caught Allegedly Trying To Smuggle Cocaine and Weed Into Jail For Gunna

Gunna Responds to Snitching Rumors: 'I Ain't Never Stop a Crime'

Earlier today it was reported that Gunna was denied bond again and now must remain behind bars until his trial begins in January of 2023. Prosecutors have argued that Gunna plays a leadership role in YSL and that he will be able to intimidate witnesses if he is let out on bond.

During Gunna’s bond hearing on Thursday, prosecutors claimed that the DS4 artist was behind another incident that occurred at the Fulton County Jail in May.

According to WSBTV, on May 14, a nurse was caught trying to allegedly smuggle cocaine and weed into the jail for Gunna. When confronted by an officer about the drugs, the nurse fled. During the bond hearing on Thursday, July 7, prosecutors said that some of the drugs in the bag were intended for Gunna, a claim that his attorney denies.

Prosecutors in the case have allegedly learned of numerous threats against witnesses who have claimed “that they fear not only for their own lives but for their families’ lives should they testify,” according to a motion filed earlier this week. This has pushed the judge presiding over the case, Judge Ural Glanville, to issue a new protective order for the witnesses. According to the New York Times, the order “forces defense lawyers to withhold witnesses’ contact information from their clients.”

Both Young Thug and Gunna’s lawyers have denied any wrongdoing.

Kurupt Shares Thoughts About YSL Arrests: “Tell The Law To Suck A D*ck”

Kurupt

The YSL R.I.C.O. arrests have been one of the biggest news stories this year and have almost been a wake-up call for many current and upcoming artists. Many people both inside and outside of the culture have shared their thoughts on the arrests. In a new interview with Vlad TV, Kurupt shared his thoughts on the situation, telling law enforcement to “suck a d*ck.”

“Hopefully they’ll be able to beat that thing,” Kurupt said. “They out to get us. When you young and Black — whatever your nationality is — when you’re young and making that money legally, they’re always gonna try to find something to take you down.”

Kurupt added, “they don’t want to see you with that money so you gotta be careful. Because you can’t do both — you can’t be on the left side of the track and the right side of the track. You gotta pick a side because things can happen to you.”

Kurupt went on to say that he believes Thug and Gunna have both learned their lesson and deserve a second chance. However, he issued a warning to the law in case Thug and Gunna are innocent. “I think they understand if they did make that mistake that I’m not gonna make it again and they’re gonna value this game and their career they’re a part of and be a better asset to society. And if they didn’t make that mistake and this is trumped up, then you know tell the law to suck a d*ck. How about that?”

Kevin Liles and Julie Greenwald Start Petition Against The Use Of Rap Lyrics In Court

The use of song lyrics in court has been a hot topic over the years, especially in regard to rap music. While Jay-Z, along with other artists, are pushing for the use of rap lyrics to be inadmissible in court and treated as artistic expression, in Atlanta, prosecutors are using lyrics against Young Thug and Gunna to prove that they were behind many of the crimes there accused of being involved in.

Now, 300 Entertainment co-founder Kevin Liles is teaming up with Atlantic Records COO Julie Greenwald to start a petition that would ban rap lyrics from being used in court.

The “Rap Music on Trial: Protect Black Art” petition seeks to pass Federal and State laws that limit prosecutors from using “creative and artistic expression as evidence against defendants in criminal trials.”  The petition uses the YSL RICO case as an example as prosecutors are using Young Thug’s and Gunna’s lyrics against them in order to prove their involvement in the alleged crimes.

“Weaponizing creative expression against artists is obviously wrong. But what gets us so upset is what’s happening to Young Thug, Gunna, and YSL is just the most high-profile case,” Liles and Greenwald said in a joint statement. “In courtrooms across America, Black creativity and artistry is being criminalized. With increasing and troubling frequency, prosecutors are attempting to use rap lyrics as confessions, just like they’re doing in this case.”

The two music industry executives applauded the New York Senate for passing State Bill S7527, which aims to “protect freedom of speech and artistic expression in New York State. This bill effectuates the enhanced free speech protections provided by the New York State Constitution, ensuring that criminal defendants are tried based upon evidence of criminal conduct, not the provocative nature of their artistic works and tastes.”
