Questlove And Quinta Brunson Threw A Dream Game Night With Thundercat, Willow, Vince Staples, Weird Al, And Many, Many More

Questlove is an amazingly accomplished artist, with six Grammy Awards, an Academy Award, and a slew of books and movies to his name. Likewise, fellow Philadelphian multihyphenate Quinta Brunson has a ton of hardware adorning her shelf, with an Emmy Award to go alongside multiple(!) Peabody Awards.

You’d think that these would be pretty serious people, but everyone needs to unwind sometime — and, in their case, they equally overachieve with their game nights as with anything else, putting on a party of epic proportions with a guest list that reads like a dream blunt rotation.

In addition to fellow Abbott Elementary stars Ayo Edibiri (who plays Quinta’s character’s sister), Cree Summer, and Zack Fox (who plays Quinta’s character’s ex), the guests included music stars like Eryn Allen Kane, Finneas, Jason Sudeikis, Jojo, Kelly Rowland, LL Cool J, Maggie Rogers, Steve Lacy, Thundercat, Vince Staples, Willow, and even Weird Al Yankovic. I’d ask what a brother has to do to get an invite, but it seems pretty obvious: Get nominated for a Grammy or two, shift the paradigms of popular music, or be one of the most talented humans alive. WILLOW Is Breathtaking & Colorful On “Empathogen”

Over the course of WILLOW’s career (Willow Smith), we have seen mature greatly as an artist. She is always experimenting and pushing herself to dabble in multiple genres, sometimes on the same record. For some time, she was pursuing pop punk and post-punk sounds on efforts like <COPINGMECHANISM>. But when WILLOW came through with the lead single for empathogen, “symptoms of life” back in March, it was clear she was taking another artistic detour.

However, this path does not lead to a dead end. WILLOW shows across this 12-song foray into alternative, pop rock, and acoustic that she has plenty of room to grow. In some instances, like “down” for example, there is good chance that she was listening to some Billie Eilish to get some inspiration. But there is a lot more to like than ridicule on empathogen. The lead single still remains to be one of the project’s best, with “the fear is not real,” “false self,” “home,” and “run!” being just a handful.

Listen To Empathogen By WILLOW

Because of this deviation we talked about, WILLOW had some reservations, as many musicians do. But the great ones are willing to put themselves out there, and that was the mindset that she had shared with Popsugar. “This whole album is different from anything I’ve done, and I’m just so excited for people to hear it,” she says. “You always take a little bit of a risk, but I’m a risk-taker, what can I say?”

What are your thoughts on this brand-new album empathogen by WILLOW? How do you feel about the direction that album went sonically, why or why not? Which track is the best out the bunch? Which track did she put on the most acrobatic vocal performance? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. WILLOW Drops Angelic “Symptom Of Life” Single

It is clear that Will Smith’s kids have been inspired to be multi-talented artists. of course, we all know how diversely gifted the famed actor and musician is. But, Jaden and WILLOW have certainly proven to be talented in their own respective ways as well. Both of them have never pigeonholed themselves to one genre, especially WILLOW. Her career has seen take on many different forms of pop music. Her evolution continues on this newest single “symptom of life.”

Since 2020, the 23-year-old multi-talent had been exploring pop punk and rock. In that three-year window, she put out three albums, THE ANXIETY, lately I feel EVERYTHING, and <COPINGMECHANISM>. After 2022 though, WILLOW went silent for a little over a year. In that span of time, she worked on trying out more alternative/singer/songwriter material with “alone.”

She did drop some instrumental cuts on Apple Music, “Stars” and “Symphonie,” but WILLOW is truly back with “symptom of life.” This a beautiful record about really questioning your choices in life. She kind of gave a hint as to what she is trying to do with her recent offerings with Rolling Stone. “When we’re alone, when there’s nobody there to distract us from our own thoughts, we try to run away from it. But I feel like it’s a really interesting practice to understand and to really see what changes when you don’t try to push it away.”

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “symptom of life,” by WILLOW? Is this one of her better tracks as of late, why or why not? What was your favorite element of the song and why? Are you excited for her rumored upcoming album? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Rick Ross Reveals His First Rap Name In The 4th Grade

Fans love a good “before they were famous” story, and this one arrives courtesy of Rick Ross. The Florida mogul has floated at the top of the Rap game for some time, but he comes from humble beginnings like other aspiring artists. Rozay sat down with The Crazy Sexy Cool Show and detailed his first Rap group in the fourth grade. The host wanted to know what the young rapping Ross’s name was.

He paused briefly before admitting, “It was a wack name. I don’t even want to say it.”

With a bit of coaxing, Ross decided to tell the world. That is before showing off a tattoo with his previous moniker.

“It’s Willow,” he said apprehensively. “And where that came from was, it was a film with the short, fat dude. And, you know, everybody know me as ‘Will,’ and they was like, ‘Yo, you Willow.’”

Ross was referencing the 1988 classic fantasy film Willow starring Warwick Davis. “I was like, ‘Yo, that’s wack,” Ross added.

He further said that his Rap group didn’t even have a name because “we was wack… We was a wack group.”

Thankfully, his previous name didn’t stick. Check out Rick Ross revisiting his earliest Rap memories above.

Megan Thee Stallion Will Pull Double Duty As Host/Musical Guest In The 48th Season Of ‘SNL,’ Which Will Kick Off With Miles Teller and Kendrick Lamar

The time has come for Saturday Night Live to return to our late-night screens with some occasionally funny jokes and Colin Jost’s squeaky-clean face. At the end of last season, fans said goodbye to long-time cast members Pete Davidson, Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, and Kyle Mooney, meanwhile, a slew of new players entered the mix. Now, the long-running series has announced its first batch of hosts and musical guests for the 48th season.

The October 1st season premiere will be hosted by Top Gun Maverick’s Miles Teller with Kendrick Lamar making his third appearance as musical guest after releasing Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers earlier this year.

Episode two will air on October 8th with host Brendan Gleeson, who will star in The Banshee’s Of Inisherin this fall, though he might be more familiar to you as Mad-Eye Moody from the Harry Potter films or Knuckles from Paddington 2. He’s got incredible range! Willow will be the musical guest ahead of her fifth album COPINGMECHANISM which drops on Oct 7th.

Finally, Megan Thee Stallion will be making her triumphant return as not only musical guest, but first-time host as well on October 15th. The rapper recently released Traumazine. This is great and all, but when will Keenan Thompson be asked to be the first host who is also a current cast member?

The 48th season of SNL premieres October 1st on NBC and Peacock.

Willow Dwells In The Complexities Of Life On Her New Single, ‘Curious/Furious’

Weeks away from her upcoming album, CopingMechanism, Willow has shared the latest single, “Curious/Furious.” On the rock-influenced single, Willow expresses her multidimensionality, as she contemplates and embraces the fluctuating feelings of growing up, delivering soulful vocals over thumping basslines.

“I’m getting over it now / And I never wore a frown / Because life doesn’t choose / Either side, win or lose / right or wrong / It’s a battle that’s all in your mind,” she sings on a guitar-and-drum-driven beat.

In a recent interview with Glamour, Willow described the album’s rock-leaning sound, recalling how record labels had previously attempted to pigeonhole her as an R&B artist.

“I love all different kinds of music, I don’t like to box myself into anything,” she said. “I was trained to be an R&B singer so I went in that direction. But I’ve always had a huge affinity for rock music ever since I was just a wee bean…The most beautiful changes on earth don’t happen by being comfortable and expecting other people to change. You have to put yourself on the line sometimes. It’s not fair, but that’s how it is.”

Willow Admires The Divine Feminine On Her New Single, ‘Hover Like A Goddess’

A little over a year after the release of her rock-influenced album Lately I Feel Everything, Willow is launching a new era. Earlier today, she took to Instagram to tease her upcoming album, Copingmechanism, which is set for release this fall. Now, she has dropped a new single from the album called “Hover Like A Goddess.”

On “Hover Like A Goddess,” Willow continues with the rock sounds of Lately I Feel Everything, with a darker edge, all while admiring the feminine mystique of a new person of her affections.

“You’re like the ocean, comin’ and goin’ / I wanna surf your words through the shore / And find what lies through deep inside I’ll be the moon to your high tide / You’re addictive, so indicative of my inhibitions / So clear, you couldn’t miss them,” she sings over an electrifying guitar track.

“Every woman deserves to be worshiped,” said Willow in a statement. “This song is an ode to the divine goddess within us all.”

The song was produced by Willow and Chris Greatti and was one of the new songs Willow previewed at Lollapalooza this past weekend.
