Usher Reflects On Keke Palmer & Darius Jackson Drama: “We Just Keep It Light”

They say that what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but unfortunately, the age of social media makes that nearly impossible – especially for celebrities. While in Sin City several weeks ago, new mom Keke Palmer dropped by Usher’s residency in a stunning, sheer dress that showed off her naturally enhanced body. The R&B crooner picked the former child star as his guest of honour that evening, beautifully serenading Palmer as she grinned from ear to ear and soaked up every bit of his attention.

Before long, videos of the steamy moment began floating around social media. There, the Chicago native’s baby daddy, Darius Jackson, caught sight of them and quickly threw shade at Palmer for her outfit. What followed that was nothing short of chaos, and though the buzz has obviously since died down, Usher was still happy to share his thoughts on the situation during a new interview with PEOPLE. “I think everybody’s vision or a version of what they felt happened there just leads you back to just really having a good time in Las Vegas. And that’s what I hope came out of it,” he told the outlet.

Usher and Keke Palmer Couldn’t Quite Keep Their Antics in Vegas

“Every night I’m thinking about how the world now is going to react to this moment that I’ll have with whoever I’m choosing to sing to. But it was a pop moment, and it was fun to have at least a conversation going and we just keep it light. I don’t see anything negative happening in Las Vegas,” the Texas-born performer added. He also addressed those online calling him a “domestic terrorist” in good humour, saying, “The internet is [wild]. You can’t beat the internet.”

Elsewhere in his discussion with PEOPLE, Usher spoke plenty about his new collaboration with 21 Sav and Summer Walker, “Good Good.” If you haven’t heard that yet, tap in at the link below. For more HNHH release recommendations, you can find our weekly Fire Emoji playlist update here.

Usher Picked Winnie Harlow As The Next Celebrity To Serenade At His Vegas Show, But She Had Other Plans

Usher’s Las Vegas residency has drawn a lot of attention over the past several days. Namely, his schtick of pulling women out of the crowd to serenade them on stage has drawn plenty of scrutiny after one of those women, Keke Palmer, was criticized by her boyfriend for her wardrobe choices. This led to days of discourse, and perhaps inevitably, to excited anticipation of the next lucky lady — or potential backlash victim.

The latest is model Winnie Harlow, who attended the show with her boyfriend, NBA player Kyle Kuzma, over the weekend. She reposted a fan-recorded clip in which Usher began to mosey over but gave up on the approach as Harlow scooched over into Kuzma’s lap. She gave the post a jovial caption, which read: Figured out the secret to the Usher concert.. sit in your mans lap Mamas. He said ‘She Chose!!!’ Okayyyy”

The whole mess started last weekend, when a video of Palmer slow-dancing with Usher in a sheer dress went viral. Palmer’s partner (and child’s father), Darius Jackson, groused, “It’s the outfit tho.. you a mom,” on Twitter, leading to such a backlash against him that he deleted his accounts (but not before doubling down on the criticism, whining, “We live in a generation where a man of the family doesn’t want the wife & mother to his kids to showcase booty cheeks to please others & he gets told how much of a hater he is.”)

Jackson reactivated his account later, thanking Elon Musk for allegedly helping him clean up his mentions. For her part, Keke seemed unfazed by his reaction, even going so far as to turn his commentary into merch.

Another woman whose Usher moment got some viral scrutiny was Bay Area rapper Saweetie, who appeared to be too stoned to do much more than smize at Usher while he serenaded her. Some fans criticized her perceived lack of enthusiasm, but it seemed pretty clear to others that she was too caught up in the moment to worry about how she was going to look online.

Usher Serenaded Saweetie Onstage During His Las Vegas Residency, But The ‘Icy Girl’ Kept Her Cool To Avoid ‘Kekegate’

Usher warned fellas not to leave their girls around him in 2002 via his song “U Don’t Have To Call.” YG had no clue that would remain true over 20 years later, when his rumored boo, Saweetie, crossed paths with the singer. The “My Type” rapper traveled to Las Vegas for Usher’s critically acclaimed My Way residency. Little did she know she’ll end up on stage with the musician.

During the fan interaction segment of his show, Usher serenaded Saweetie to his song “There Goes My Baby.” However, she kept her cool to avoid the same public spat with her alleged boyfriend, which Keke Palmer dealt with earlier this week. In the clip captured by a fan, when encouraged to participate, Saweetie played coy, to which Usher remarked, “Oh Saweetie, you’re too cool to sing my song?”

While it’s not clear if this was just a case of stage fright, fans are speculating that Saweetie chose not to join with Usher because she didn’t want to receive any public blowback. Keke Palmer was berated by her boyfriend, Darius Jackson, who is the father to her son Leo, after she was seen dancing and singing along with Usher in a performance prior.

Saweetie is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Keke Palmer Is ‘Stevie To The Bullsh*t’ Criticisms Of Her Cozy Dance With Usher

Keke Palmer has been the subject of a minor controversy this week after a video of her flirtatious dance with Usher at his Las Vegas concert drew criticism from plenty of salty men — including Darius Jackson, the father of her four-month-old son. However, to let Ms. Palmer tell it, she doesn’t even see the chatter online according to the caption of her latest Instagram post, which subtly responded to the kefuffle over her viral moment.

“One thing is certain and one thing is true, IM A MOTHA, through and through!” she wrote in the caption of a video singing Stevie Wonder’s “Isn’t She Lovely” to her son. “To all my mom’s out there, how did your baby change you?? Mine empowered me! On such another level, my perspective changed because when my baby is good I’m GREAT! Look at that face! Gratitude galore.”

Although she doesn’t overtly say it, this looks very much like a clear reference to Jackson’s comments on her video, in which he wrote, “It’s the outfit tho.. you a mom.” The outfit in question, a sheer unitard over a booty-baring black leotard, had many observers expressing their thirst, appreciation, or disapproval on Twitter (with a strong correlation, in this writer’s opinion, to the individual commenters’ level of “rizz,” as the kids say).

Keke took her response one step further, though, adding that she put some new merch up for sale: Shirts that read “I’m a motha!” and “Stevie to the bullsh*t” — referring to Stevie Wonder’s inability to see negative commentary.

Keke Palmer Dance Diss Video Has Fans Speculating Her & Darius Jackson Were Beefing Before Usher Concert

We’re used to reporting on the drama surrounding couples like Chrisean Rock and Blueface, or Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox. This week, however, it’s been Keke Palmer and her (ex?) boyfriend Darius Jackson in the spotlight after he let insecurities about his co-parent wearing a sheer dress to watch Usher perform in Las Vegas get the better of him. While neither actress nor personal trainer has publicly confirmed the status of their relationship, they seem to have either blocked or unfollowed each other on Instagram. In addition, Jackson has removed all photos of Palmer from his Instagram profile.

Palmer, meanwhile, has finally been reacting to his antics on Friday (July 7) afternoon. Less than an hour ago she shared a sweet video with her infant son Leodis, singing “Isn’t She Lovely” to the young boy as he sits happily in her arms. “One thing is certain and one thing is true, IM A MOTHA, through and through! 😍,” the Chicago native wrote in the caption, seemingly clapping back at Jackson’s controversial tweet criticizing her Usher outfit. “To all my mom’s out there, how did your baby change you?? Mine empowered me! On such another level, my perspective changed because when my baby is good I’m GREAT! Look at that face! Gratitude galore,” Keke added before encouraging fans to shop the merch linked in her bio.

Keke Palmer is a MOTHA

Over on TikTok, the former child star kept the same energy while dancing along to a viral audio of herself singing, “If you gon’ act up, I’m ’bout to link up.” It seems Palmer is a woman of her word, as she’s been moving in completely unbothered energy since the feud with Jackson began.

In the comments, many users have been speculating that trouble was brewing long before this “final straw” came. “As a Virgo… It was already issues/problems brewing at home. His public comment was him lashing out in an attempt to get her attention about his underlying insecurities of inferiority,” one person wrote. “He felt a lack [of] respect and importance wayyyy before the Usher show. All of this is just an example of how things could be handled better. If people were raised to have better communication skills versus whatever the hell else they learned.”
