“You People” Netflix Trailer Expertly Roasts Drake’s “Views” Era

Not all Netflix Original films are made equally. However, an upcoming one has managed to capture the public’s attention in particular. You People, which stars Superbad actor Jonah Hill and California native Lauren London, received a new trailer a few days ago. Of course, fans couldn’t help but notice the way it expertly roasts Drake.

Specifically, the new clip finds the 39-year-old’s character, Ezra, chatting with comedian Sam Jay about his love life. “I don’t think I’ve heard of a man ever who wanted to be in a relationship so badly besides Drake. And I’m talking ‘Views’ Drake,” the latter quips. This comes after hearing his friend talk about the lack of romance in his life.

As HipHopDX notes, the trailer later shows scenes of the characters living their daily lives. “I feel like ‘Views’ Drake,” Hill’s voice says. “Alone, on a building, dangling my legs off wondering what it’s like to feel companionship,” he adds, referencing the project’s famous artwork.

From what we know about You People so far, Ezra later has a chance encounter with Amira (played by London). As they get to know each other better, her conservative Muslim parents and his “progressive, semi-woke” Jewish parents also spend more time together. The latter’s family comes to life via Seinfeld‘s Julia Louis-Dreyfus and David Duchovny.

Other celebrities who appear in the project include La La Anthony, Deon Cole, Mike Epps, and even City Girl Yung Miami. This marks Caresha’s second acting credit, as she already aided 50 Cent with his BMF series last year.

Playing Amira’s parents are two Hollywood legends – Nia Long and Eddie Murphy. They hit up several Los Angeles hot spots throughout filming. London previously said this was her favourite part of the project.

“My favourite location was Simply Wholesome,” she told Tudum. “Growing up in LA, I used to walk to Simply Wholesome and grab a patty or a smoothie. Being inside a Black establishment that promotes wellness and health in the heart of our community, and that business being highlighted and shown in a big-budget film, that was very special.”

The cast is rounded out by Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, Gary Oldman, Rami Malek, and more.

“They won’t fear it until they understand it,” Murphy’s titular character says in the trailer. “And they won’t understand it until they’ve used it.”

Nolan has previously said that he recreated a nuclear weapon detonation without relying on CGI effects. He detailed the difficult process during a recent interview with Total Film.

“I think recreating the Trinity test without the use of computer graphics was a huge challenge to take on,” Nolan told the outlet. “Andrew Jackson—my visual effects supervisor, I got him on board early on—was looking at how we could do a lot of the visual elements of the film practically, from representing quantum dynamics and quantum physics to the Trinity test itself, to recreating, with my team, Los Alamos up on a mesa in New Mexico in extraordinary weather, a lot of which was needed for the film, in terms of the very harsh conditions out there—there were huge practical challenges.”

While released officially on Sunday night, the trailer debuted ahead of showings of Avatar: The Way of Water throughout the weekend. Oppenheimer will be Nolan’s first film since 2020’s Tenet. It is based on the biography, American Prometheus.

Oppenheimer will hit theaters on July 21, 2023.

The continuation of the series comes after Kelly was sentenced to 30 years in prison for a federal sex crimes case. A jury found him guilty on three separate counts of child pornography and three counts of enticement of a minor. He is also awaiting trial in Minnesota and Illinois for similar crimes.

In addition to his legal drama, Kelly also recently dealt with someone leaking his album, I Admit It. The project spontaneously popped up on streaming services, last week.

“It’s stolen music,” the disgraced singer’s lawyer, Jennifer Bonjean, told The Hollywood Reporter. “A police report was filed some time ago because his masters were stolen, but there’s not much of an appetite to investigate these things. People have had access to his intellectual property rights that they are attempting to profit off of, but unfortunately that does not include Mr. Kelly.”

“Mike” is a biographical series that will lead to more sports stories being told by Hulu. Last year President of ABC Entertainment and Hulu Originals Craig Erwich told Deadline the following: “Biographical pictures are a fan favorite and a staple of the movie and television business and frequently the subjects are not involved. We have a strategy of taking a modern lens and applying it to stories and figures of popular culture of the past. We’ve had a lot of success doing that, and I think it reveals interesting things, not just about where we’ve been but where we are, so we’re looking forward to continuing the creative conversations behind Iron Mike.”

Hulu’s “Mike” premieres on August 25.
