Tory Lanez faced a setback in his legal battle as a Los Angeles judge denied lawyer Ronda Renee Dixon’s request to join his case. Dixon alleged that Lanez’s current legal representation, namely Matthew Barhoma, was taking advantage of the Canadian rapper and not acting in his best interests. Ronda Renee Dixon said Lanez’s attorneys had […]
While he awaits sentencing, which is set for August 6, new reports indicate that Tory Lanez is having a pretty miserable time in jail. Moreover, these new claims come from attorney Ronda Renee Dixon, who motioned to take over as his legal counsel on Wednesday (July 12). However, the court denied her motion, although her statement still made its way to the news cycle and raised concerns over the artist’s state of mind and body while behind bars. Apparently, Lanez feels “despondent” in jail, exacerbated by the fact that authorities hold him in isolation. Dixon believes that he faced harsh and rare conditions during his time so far, and that it will continue if the court ignores his requests for a state prison transfer.
“His eyes were black,” Dixon told Legal Affairs and Trials with Meghann Cuniff of Tory Lanez’s mentality and physique. “He was totally despondent. He told me he wanted to go to state prison. I said, ‘You want to go to state prison? Why?’ He said, ‘At least I’ll be able to go out in the yard and talk to people.’ That upset me. I don’t think he’s guilty.
“Merely because he is well known, the Sheriff has decided that Mr. Peterson is of such great threat that he must be confined in the same manner as those convicted of serial rape charges and murder,” her motion read. For those unaware, the court found Tory Lanez guilty for charges related to shootingMegan Thee Stallion in July of 2020. These are one count of felony assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying an unregistered and loaded firearm in a vehicle, and firing said gun with gross negligence. Despite his team’s efforts, authorities denied his motion for a new trial and other attempts to reverse the ruling.
Meanwhile, the Canadian rapper and singer faces a maximum of 22 years behind bars according to reports and a minimum of nine years. Still, the prosecution aimed for about 13 years when making their case to the judge. With new details emerging and public knowledge increasing, this will be a very interesting verdict to witness. With that in mind, stay posted on HNHH for the latest news and updates on Tory Lanez.
Since his release from prison in 2018, Meek Mill has used his platform to advocate for criminal justice reform. The “Dreams & Nightmares” rapper’s campaigning doesn’t stop when he hits the stage. During his Rolling Loud Portugal 2023 performances, Meek called for a fellow entertainer’s release. However, the musician learned quickly that not everyone agrees with him.
While performing his 2016 song “Litty,” Meek Mill declared “Free Tory Lanez” to the sea of Rolling Loud attendees, and while the crowd didn’t give him any pushback, social media wasn’t too happy about it. Lanez, who appeared on the track with Meek, is awaiting sentencing for assaulting rapper Megan Thee Stallion.

After the fan-captured clip was shared on social media, users chimed in on Meek’s call to release the recording artist. Several users alleged that Meek couldn’t find fault in what his former collaborator was convicted of because he was also accused of similar abusive behaviors toward his ex-girlfriend Nicki Minaj. One user wrote, “Of course, he says that birds of a feather flock together.”
Another user wrote, “Abusers supporting each other, what’s new.”

Meek denied all accusations of being abusive toward Minaj, writing in a now-deleted tweet, “The only way you can try to kill my career is to say I beat women.”

The case of Tory Lanez against Megan Thee Stallion over a shooting has been one of the most high-profile and divisive stories in the rap world in recent years. While many stand by Megan’s story, others are more quick to be skeptical, or instead focus on how the Canadian artist has been affected by all this. Moreover, the latest to do so in very public fashion is Meek Mill, who did so during his Rolling Loud Portugal set. In fact, it was a timely declaration as he did so right after he played a brief part of their collaboration “Litty.” “Free Tory Lanez,” the Philly rapper proclaimed after the song wrapped up.
Also, this is quite the interesting development considering that both artists had beef in the past. However, it seems like all the legal trouble eventually convinced Meek Mill to forego his past issues with Tory Lanez. Of course, this statement during a festival performance probably won’t sit well with many fans out there, regardless of who they listen to more or even at all. Still, it’s unfortunately quite a popular sentiment that takes aim at Megan Thee Stallion’s story and presumed injustice rather than at the justice system as a whole.
Either way, it’s quite the complicated issue that brings into question consequence, just sentences, and more. Speaking of sentencing, Tory Lanez will receive his on August 7, or at least that was the latest update as of writing this article. Furthermore, we make that distinction thanks to the delays that the artist faced in his sentencing process following a guilty conviction. Lanez has maintained his innocence all throughout this process, and despite his legal team’s efforts, he could not reverse the ruling based on the evidence presented.
Meanwhile, Meek recently let fans know that they would be hearing a lot more from him in the future. After speaking on his lack of releases this decade, he announced that he has four projects on the way. Maybe we’ll hear him tackle these themes on wax, which would be a much heavier stance to take than just a comment during a show. Regardless, come back to HNHH for the latest news and updates on Meek Mill and Tory Lanez.
While Megan Thee Stallion and Tory Lanez are the main parties in their ongoing trial, a third party, Kelsey Nicole, is also involved. In fact, Lanez’s defense attorney has previously argued that it was Kelsey who shot Megan. Regardless, the trio continues to make headlines for their involvement in what is one of the most popular Hip Hop scandals in recent times. As more information unfolds, it’s important to note that Tory Lanez has already been found guilty and is awaiting sentencing.
Kelsey Nicole, born Kelsey Harris, was once attached to the hip with Megan. The pair, who were best friends once upon a time, have had a public fallout in the media. Since the infamous shooting incident, there have been instances of online antagonizing, diss tracks, retracted testimonies, and much more. It’s also safe to bet that there’s no coming back from their parting. Both women have begun to move on with their respective lives without each other.
Megan Thee Stallion & Kelsey Nicole’s Friendship
The two Houston natives met at Prairie View A&M University and established a close bond. Together, they became well-known on campus for their outgoing personalities and sisterhood. Kelsey Nicole eventually worked as Megan’s assistant after the latter achieved mainstream success. What seemed like an unbreakable friendship would later crumble after a harrowing event on July 12, 2020.
The Infamous Shooting Incident
.@theestallion shares her story of the 2020 incident when she was shot in her feet, allegedly by Tory Lanez.
She says she initially told police she stepped on glass, because she feared for her life: “I was just trying to protect all of us because I didn’t want them to kill us.” pic.twitter.com/qd4MJ1yN2w
Megan and Kelsey usually went to parties and events together. As Megan’s assistant, Kelsey was right by her friend’s side in public and on social media. Following a party at Kylie Jenner’s house, Megan was shot in the foot following an argument with Tory Lanez while inside a vehicle with him and Kelsey. The “HER” rapper crawled to a neighboring house, and the authorities were called to the scene. Megan has gone on record to admit that she, at first, sought to protect Lanez. When the police arrived, she claimed she had stepped on some glass. However, after the doctor’s report revealed bullet fragments in her foot, she decided to come clean.
She further stated that indeed, Tory Lanez was initially remorseful about the shooting. However, she was upset that he allegedly offered her and Kelsey a million dollars to keep hush about the ordeal. In an interview with Gayle King, Megan explained that she feared Lanez was aggravated and she began to fear for her life as he kept firing shots. Later in 2022, Megan reported that while she received treatment at the hospital, Kelsey Nicole paid Tory Lanez a visit. Their meeting understandably left her dumbfounded.
“I’m like, ‘Kelsey, as my best friend, why would you meet up with the person you saw shoot your best friend,’” she said. Kelsey’s response was that she wanted to hear Lanez’s version of events. Allegedly, the “Broke In A Minute” rapper called Kelsey over to apologize. Worse yet, he allegedly promised to fund her business ventures if she stayed quiet.
Kelsey Nicole’s Responses
After Megan shared information about her ex-best friend allegedly meeting up with Lanez, Kelsey took to social media to respond. On Instagram, she accused Megan of playing “social media games.” Furthermore, she said she would break everything down ”when it was her turn to speak.” Fans of Megan Thee Stallion have since revisited the infamous video response, calling Kelsey out as a falsifier.
On November 20, 2020, Megan The Stallion released “Shots Fired,” the first track off her debut album, Good News. The single was in response to Lanez’s album Daystar, in which he mocked Megan severally while referencing the shooting. Kelsey later joined in on the mix, releasing the diss track “Bussin Back.” On the track, she mocked Megan, accusing her former friend of betraying her.
A Shocking Twist In Court
“You should also be aware that Alex Spiro, Megan’s lawyer, and/or counsel for @RocNation have launched an investigation into Kelsey having being “compromised” (bribed or threatened).” ⁃ Shawn Holley when she quit as Tory Lanez’s lawyer https://t.co/VRNzHmbej5pic.twitter.com/IUiMXFSzG7
In December 2022, Kelsey Nicole was slated to testify about her version of events during the shooting. On the third day of Lanez’s criminal trial, Kelsey shocked the world by staying silent. In addition to this, she altered her detailed statement made in September, three months earlier. While in court, Kelsey invoked her Fifth Amendment rights and blamed her memory loss on being “under the influence.” She also blamed postpartum issues, grief, and anxiety for her mixed testimony. Deputy District Attorney, Kathy Ta, asked if Lanez offered her a million dollars to keep hush. Kelsey simply replied, “That’s not the exact wording. He mentioned the million, but again it’s a blur.”
Judge David Herriford, who presides over the case, granted Kelsey immunity. Even though she was told there was no plan to prosecute her, she maintained her silence.
Regardless of the drama from the shooting, Kelsey Nicole seems to be thriving in her personal and professional life. She is the founder of KN Management, a talent booking agency. She is also into real estate, offering clients short-term stays through her company, AirBnChill.
Kelsey Nicole is also a mother, as her son Drayven was born in May 2022. She shares the one-year-old with Darien Smith, popularly known as D Boy No Sleep. Smith is an executive at the label 1501 Certified Entertainment. Smith has been caught up in the legal war between Megan and 1501. It was reported that Alongside her other business ventures, Kelsey Nicole owns The Royals nightclub in Victoria, Texas.
There isn’t another rapper this year who had as eventful of an album rollout at Top5. The Toronto rapper is currently locked up as he awaits trial for first-degree murder. Still, even while incarcerated, he’s managed to rattle the music industry. Just a week ago, he claimed responsibility for jacking DJ Drama’s chain during a club appearance in Toronto. Still, his charges nor his antics have hindered his reach in the music industry, especially as he built anticipation for his next project.
This morning, Top5 finally came through with his latest album, Pedro Activated, released through GGG, 6ixbuzz Ent., and Create Music Group. The 16-song effort is stacked to the brim with features from some of the hottest names in hip-hop. G Herbo helps open up the project, “21 Questions” while the late Drakeo The Ruler posthumously appears on “Your Homie.” Then, he has features from artists like PGF Nuk, Asian Doll, Chinese Kitty, Tory Lanez, and more.
The rapper’s latest body of work focuses heavily on his Toronto counterparts, as well. With 6ixbuzz hosting the project, Pedro Activated also boasts appearances from artists like Pressa, Bundog, Casper TNG, Flippa, Why G, and more. It’s an impressive set of records that builds on Top5’s infamy. Still, it’s clear that his name holds weight outside of Toronto.
Right now, Top5 is sitting behind bars as he awaits trial. Toronto Police previously alleged that he cut off his ankle bracelet and went on the run, heading to America. Eventually, police issued a warrant for his arrest and he returned to Canada where he was charged with first-degree murder. We’ll keep you posted on any more details surrounding his case. Check out the tracklist for Pedro Activated below.
Despite his ongoing legal battle and impending sentencing hearing, R&B star Tory Lanez surprised fans by releasing a previously unused record titled “Hurts Me.” The song features Lanez for his brother Yoko’s project, which had been stored on a hard drive for two and a half years until it surfaced online. While the release of […]
The last two years have seen Tory Lanez embroiled in a very heated scandal. However, his public fallout with Megan Thee Stallion is just one of many controversies that have left a mark on the artist’s career. The singer and rapper is currently incarcerated after being found guilty of discharging an unregistered firearm with gross negligence. He is now awaiting sentencing.
Notwithstanding, Tory Lanez has had public beefs with many Hip Hop stars throughout his career. While he is often credited with resurrecting friendly Hip Hop competition, he has caused a stir numerous times. Although the scandal surrounding the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion is his most popular, there are several more instances of misconduct on Tory Lanez’s resume.
Beef With Drake
Although they are good friends today, Drake and Tory Lanez didn’t always see eye to eye. The Canadian natives were once beefing as far back as 2015. Indeed, Lanez started out as a fan, even challenging Drake to a rap battle in 2010. The initial love would later translate to tensions five years later when Tory began a series of disses against Drake.
Thus began a series of back-and-forth subliminal exchanges between the pair. Between Drake’s cryptic “Summer Sixteen” and Lanez’s “Uber Everywhere” and “Line Up the Flex,” fans believed there was animosity between the two. By early 2017, Drake called out Lanez by his government name, heating up the scandal with the track “Do Not Disturb.” However, a mere two months later, they put their differences aside and laid their beef to rest. They’ve remained friends since.
Inciting A Riot In Texas
In 2016, Tory Lanez was the subject of another scandal when he reportedly incited a riot in Texas. During a packed concert, the rapper was said to have encouraged his fans to get physical with security personnel. He allegedly had a prior run-in with the security before going on stage and was clearly annoyed by the time his performance had begun.
Lanez would eventually mutter the words “B*tch ass security” and told his swarm of fans to trash the place. What occurred after was a full-on brawl, with chairs and bottles flying around the arena. The crowd went wild, with many left injured due to the altercations. Thankfully no lives were lost, but the police were called in, and the show was eventually shut down.
After one of his shows, Tory Lanez stirred up another scandal after almost swapping fists with Travis Scott. While he’s blamed it on the adrenaline from his performance prior, things could have turned bloody. Lanez addressed the almost-fight in his song “Hate to Say.” The two artists were involved in an argument backstage when Lanez asked Scott if he wanted to apologize or exchange blows. Thankfully, the pair settled it, but Lanez’s heated demeanor was displayed as the altercation was recorded.
Lanez came under fire after he was reported to have allegedly assaulted August Alsina in Chicago last year. Alsina also went on social media, posting photos of his bloody mouth as a result of the attack. The cause of the assault was Alsina’s refusal to shake Tory Lanez’s. The scandal has led to Tory Lanez being investigated by the LA County District Attorney’s Office.
The beef between Joyner Lucas and Tory Lanez was short-lived. Lanez stated that he was a better rapper than Lucas, which led to a string of diss tracks between them. Lanez’s most memorable of these was his freestyle of “Lucky You,” a track initially by Eminem that featured Lucas. Two days later, Lucas released a remix of Kodak Black’s “Zeze” to respond to Lanez’s diss.
Parting Ways With Interscope Records
Tory Lanez caused another scandal with how he announced his separation from Interscope Records. It’s been over three years since he announced his departure, but many fans still wonder why he left the label. However, he did go on a Twitter rant in 2020, suggesting that he does not have creative control. His response to a fan also led many to believe he was unhappy with his deal.
“I haven’t dropped the music that I REALLY wanted to for the last 4 years,” he tweeted. “I just freestyle’d sh*t and songs that WOULD GET YOU BY ,up untill i said f*ck it ‘i gotta atleast go 60 % or they gone start thinking I’m super trash then boom ‘CHIXTAPE 5’ but this should be fun tho.”
Beef With Dreamville Records
Tory Lanez’s beef with the entirety of Dreamville Records began with Don Q after the latter accused him of stealing his lyrics. JID, a rapper signed to Dreamville, used the beef as an opportunity to air his grievances against Lanez for his previous comments at J. Cole. DreamDoll, whose name was mentioned in the rap disses between Lanez and Don Q, also released a diss at Lanez titled “On Ya Head.”
It’s been over half a year since Tory Lanez was found guilty in his shooting trial against Megan Thee Stallion. Still, the “Say It” singer remains without a sentence. His court date was recently rescheduled to August 7, and prosecutors are seeking 13 years for him. However, Lanez’s defense attorneys are working overtime with attempts to disqualify the preceding judge on the case. Unfortunately for him, their attempts appear to only be failing. On Sunday (June 18), the father of one’s Instagram feed lit up with a message for his fans. Along with that came an exciting announcement about new music arriving at midnight.
“To my Family, my Friends, and to the Umbellas worldwide, I want y’all to know I haven’t lost my faith in God and that I’m in high spirits,” Lanez wrote in a screenshot from his Notes app. “I’m praying for the best and remain confident that God will bring me through this. I have spent the last seven months rehabilitating my mind, my body, and my soul,” the R&B star went on to share. “Though I came to jail a good person, I will leave as a great person. I’ve turned this jail cell into my work office.”
Lanez then promised his plans to “continue the legacy of the Umbrella from here or anywhere else.” His goal at this time is to shine his positive light brightly to aid anyone who may be in need. “With that being said, all things One Umbrella will now be promoted on my main page through my team at my command. New music, merch, and updates start dropping tonight.” To conclude his post, the embattled star shared that his Yoko Gold collaboration, called “Hurts Me” will land on DSPs on Monday (June 19).
While Tory Lanez continues to push through his struggles on the inside, in the outside world, Kylie Jenner is facing backlash for bumping one of his unreleased tracks in a recent TikTok. As you may recall, the Canadian artist was at the reality star’s house with Megan Thee Stallion on the night when the Houston hottie was shot. Read the criticism social media users have for Jenner at the link below. Make sure to check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.
If you’ve been on TikTok at all these past few weeks, there’s a solid chance that you’ve heard Tory Lanez’s unreleased track, “Hurts Me.” In line with some of his more recent material, the song has a strong ’80s vibe with a washed-out, simple, but funky drum beat, ethereal vocal melodies, and spacey synthesizers. Moreover, it’s part of a trend that uses a face-distorting filter that also gives you a small beard- and fans can’t get enough. However, given the Canadian artist’s legal controversies surrounding his convicted shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, some users expressed disappointment in giving him some play. On the other hand, most discussion you will find on social media with a search surrounds people begging for the track’s release.
Furthermore, those who want to boycott the 30-year-old’s music must be especially unhappy with Kylie Jenner. She just posted a couple of videos singing along to “Hurts Me,” most likely blowing the trend up for many that were unaware of it in the process. Of course, it’s ridiculous to expect Tory Lanez fans to not want the song, as unlikely as it seems right now. Still, some conversation online surrounds the fact that many people don’t know who made this song and are unwittingly pushing for him to profit and keep his career despite his crimes.
“She’s literally showing everyone that she sides with Tory,” one user expressed on Twitter. “& don’t give a f**k about Megan, a BLACK woman, who Kylie and her entire family imitates their entire lives around black women.” Another expressed, “Are y’all REALLYYY surprised that Kylie Jenner is (has always been) moving weird lol? Like reallyyy, I genuinely wanna know. She been a weird a** b***h even before all of the Meg & Tory Situation.” Meanwhile, others expressed their support for Tory or simply said that she’s allowed to listen to whatever she wants, and that it doesn’t signal support or condemnation of Tory Lanez. Check out some reactions below
In addition, a lot of people expressed that they honestly wouldn’t have ever known it was Tory who made that song in the first place. Perhaps that’s proving the detractors’ point, but it also shows that a song isn’t enough to demonstrate support of an artist’s personal actions. The court will sentence him in August, and fans will likely continue to bump his music whether they’re famous or not. For more on Kylie Jenner and Tory Lanez, stick around on HNHH.
