While he awaits sentencing, which is set for August 6, new reports indicate that Tory Lanez is having a pretty miserable time in jail. Moreover, these new claims come from attorney Ronda Renee Dixon, who motioned to take over as his legal counsel on Wednesday (July 12). However, the court denied her motion, although her statement still made its way to the news cycle and raised concerns over the artist’s state of mind and body while behind bars. Apparently, Lanez feels “despondent” in jail, exacerbated by the fact that authorities hold him in isolation. Dixon believes that he faced harsh and rare conditions during his time so far, and that it will continue if the court ignores his requests for a state prison transfer.
“His eyes were black,” Dixon told Legal Affairs and Trials with Meghann Cuniff of Tory Lanez’s mentality and physique. “He was totally despondent. He told me he wanted to go to state prison. I said, ‘You want to go to state prison? Why?’ He said, ‘At least I’ll be able to go out in the yard and talk to people.’ That upset me. I don’t think he’s guilty.

“Merely because he is well known, the Sheriff has decided that Mr. Peterson is of such great threat that he must be confined in the same manner as those convicted of serial rape charges and murder,” her motion read. For those unaware, the court found Tory Lanez guilty for charges related to shooting Megan Thee Stallion in July of 2020. These are one count of felony assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying an unregistered and loaded firearm in a vehicle, and firing said gun with gross negligence. Despite his team’s efforts, authorities denied his motion for a new trial and other attempts to reverse the ruling.
Meanwhile, the Canadian rapper and singer faces a maximum of 22 years behind bars according to reports and a minimum of nine years. Megan and Kelsey usually went to parties and events together. As Megan’s assistant, Kelsey was right by her friend’s side in public and on social media. Following a party at Kylie Jenner’s house, Megan was shot in the foot following an argument with Tory Lanez while inside a vehicle with him and Kelsey. The “HER” rapper crawled to a neighboring house, and the authorities were called to the scene. Megan has gone on record to admit that she, at first, sought to protect Lanez. When the police arrived, she claimed she had stepped on some glass. However, after the doctor’s report revealed bullet fragments in her foot, she decided to come clean.
She further stated that indeed, Tory Lanez was initially remorseful about the shooting. However, she was upset that he allegedly offered her and Kelsey a million dollars to keep hush about the ordeal. In an interview with Gayle King, Megan explained that she feared Lanez was aggravated and she began to fear for her life as he kept firing shots. Later in 2022, Megan reported that while she received treatment at the hospital, Kelsey Nicole paid Tory Lanez a visit. Their meeting understandably left her dumbfounded.
“I’m like, ‘Kelsey, as my best friend, why would you meet up with the person you saw shoot your best friend,’” she said. Kelsey’s response was that she wanted to hear Lanez’s version of events. Allegedly, the “Broke In A Minute” rapper called Kelsey over to apologize. Worse yet, he allegedly promised to fund her business ventures if she stayed quiet.
After Megan shared information about her ex-best friend allegedly meeting up with Lanez, Kelsey took to social media to respond. On Instagram, she accused Megan of playing “social media games.” Furthermore, she said she would break everything down ”when it was her turn to speak.” Fans of Megan Thee Stallion have since revisited the infamous video response, calling Kelsey out as a falsifier.
On November 20, 2020, Megan The Stallion released “Shots Fired,” the first track off her debut album, Good News. The single was in response to Lanez’s album Daystar, in which he mocked Megan severally while referencing the shooting. Kelsey later joined in on the mix, releasing the diss track “Bussin Back.” On the track, she mocked Megan, accusing her former friend of betraying her.

In December 2022, Kelsey Nicole was slated to testify about her version of events during the shooting. On the third day of Lanez’s criminal trial, Kelsey shocked the world by staying silent. In addition to this, she altered her detailed statement made in September, three months earlier. While in court, Kelsey invoked her Fifth Amendment rights and blamed her memory loss on being “under the influence.” She also blamed postpartum issues, grief, and anxiety for her mixed testimony. Deputy District Attorney, Kathy Ta, asked if Lanez offered her a million dollars to keep hush. Kelsey simply replied, “That’s not the exact wording. He mentioned the million, but again it’s a blur.”
Judge David Herriford, who presides over the case, granted Kelsey immunity. Even though she was told there was no plan to prosecute her, she maintained her silence.
Regardless of the drama from the shooting, Kelsey Nicole seems to be thriving in her personal and professional life. She is the founder of KN Management, a talent booking agency. She is also into real estate, offering clients short-term stays through her company, AirBnChill.
Kelsey Nicole is also a mother, as her son Drayven was born in May 2022. She shares the one-year-old with Darien Smith, popularly known as D Boy No Sleep. Smith is an executive at the label 1501 Certified Entertainment. Smith has been caught up in the legal war between Megan and 1501. The last two years have seen Tory Lanez embroiled in a very heated scandal. However, his public fallout with Megan Thee Stallion is just one of many controversies that have left a mark on the artist’s career. Notwithstanding, Tory Lanez has had public beefs with many Hip Hop stars throughout his career. While he is often credited with resurrecting friendly Hip Hop competition, he has caused a stir numerous times. Although the scandal surrounding the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion is his most popular, there are several more instances of misconduct on Tory Lanez’s resume.
Although they are good friends today, Drake and Tory Lanez didn’t always see eye to eye. The Canadian natives were once beefing as far back as 2015. Indeed, Lanez started out as a fan, even challenging Drake to a rap battle in 2010. The initial love would later translate to tensions five years later when Tory began a series of disses against Drake.
Thus began a series of back-and-forth subliminal exchanges between the pair. Between Drake’s cryptic “Summer Sixteen” and Lanez’s “Uber Everywhere” and “Line Up the Flex,” fans believed there was animosity between the two. By early 2017, Drake called out Lanez by his government name, heating up the scandal with the track “Do Not Disturb.” However, a mere two months later, they put their differences aside and laid their beef to rest. They’ve remained friends since.
In 2016, Tory Lanez was the subject of another scandal when he reportedly incited a riot in Texas. During a packed concert, the rapper was said to have encouraged his fans to get physical with security personnel. He allegedly had a prior run-in with the security before going on stage and was clearly annoyed by the time his performance had begun.
Lanez would eventually mutter the words “B*tch ass security” and told his swarm of fans to trash the place. What occurred after was a full-on brawl, with chairs and bottles flying around the arena. The crowd went wild, with many left injured due to the altercations. Thankfully no lives were lost, but the police were called in, and the show was eventually shut down.
After one of his shows, Tory Lanez stirred up another scandal after almost swapping fists with Travis Scott. While he’s blamed it on the adrenaline from his performance prior, things could have turned bloody. Lanez addressed the almost-fight in his song “Hate to Say.” The two artists were involved in an argument backstage when Lanez asked Scott if he wanted to apologize or exchange blows. Thankfully, the pair settled it, but Lanez’s heated demeanor was displayed as the altercation was recorded.

Lanez came under fire after he was reported to have allegedly assaulted August Alsina in Chicago last year. Alsina also went on social media, posting photos of his bloody mouth as a result of the attack. The cause of the assault was Alsina’s refusal to shake Tory Lanez’s. The scandal has led to Tory Lanez being investigated by the LA County District Attorney’s Office.
The beef between Joyner Lucas and Tory Lanez was short-lived. Lanez stated that he was a better rapper than Lucas, which led to a string of diss tracks between them. Tory Lanez caused another scandal with how he announced his separation from Interscope Records. It’s been over three years since he announced his departure, but many fans still wonder why he left the label. However, he did go on a Twitter rant in 2020, suggesting that he does not have creative control. His response to a fan also led many to believe he was unhappy with his deal.
