Drake Honours Takeoff During Atlanta Tour Stop: Watch

The one-year anniversary of Takeoff’s death is quickly approaching, but for many loved ones and fans of the late rapper, his passing still doesn’t feel real. The Migos’ partner in rhyme, Quavo, spoke candidly about how he still feels his nephew’s spirit in an interview earlier this year, revealing that he still visits Take’s house to check on his things and make sure everything is in order. Others in the industry continue to mourn the loss of the Rocket Man as well, including Drake, who took a moment to pay tribute to his former collaborator during Monday (September 25) night’s tour stop in Atlanta.

“The first time I came to Atlanta, was I hopped on the remix to the song called ‘Versace,’” the 36-year-old recalled while wandering around his stage. The crowd instantly began cheering at the thought of him performing the classic club banger, but instead, he shared a heartfelt story about his late amigo. “And I just wanted to say while I’m in here, rest in peace to my brother Takeoff. One of my first brothers out here in Atlanta.”

Drake Reminds Us He’s For All The Dogs in ATL

Besides the “Versace (Remix),” we also heard Champagne Papi and Take join forces with Quavo and Offset back in 2018 for “Walk It Talk It.” The Southern rap group joined forces with the father of one to tour across North America shortly after, leaving Drake with plenty of fond memories to look back on whenever he finds himself missing the “HOTEL LOBBY” hitmaker.

Speaking of For All The Dogs, the first single from Drake’s upcoming album has been receiving mixed reviews online, though it did still land at No. 1 on the Billboard chart. Charlamagne Tha God was among those criticizing “Slime You Out” with SZA, though he’s not joking that the entire feud between him and the Canadian was a planned part of Drizzy’s album rollout. Quavo Rushed By Fans While Stopped In Traffic

Quavo is taking a victory lap of sorts following the release of his highly-anticipated new album Rocket Power. The project saw the former Migos rapper getting raw and vulnerable on his feelings about fellow Migos member Takeoff’s murder. Fans connected with his vulnerability and praised the album quite a bit. While it achieved critical success, it was a bit of a slip in terms of commercial sales following his previous solo album and collaborative project with Takeoff. The project sold 34k in its first week and debuted at number 18 on the Billboard 200.

Now Quavo is having an interaction directly with some of his fans. Video hit the internet of the rapper stopped in traffic with some fans gathered outside the window of his car. In the hilarious clip, the fans and even other passing drivers pull out their phones to film the surprise interaction, which the rapper seems to find quite amusing. In one particularly funny moment, a fan tries to go in for a handshake with Quavo, which he doesn’t acknowledge and ends up leaving the hanging. Check out the entire funny clip below.

Quavo Leaves A Fan Hanging In Traffic

Rocket Power has features from Takeoff, Future, Young Thug, BabyDrill, and Hunxho. It’s spawned a hit song in “Turn Yo Clic Up” with Future and another budding hit in “Patty Cake” with Takeoff. Earlier this week, Quavo caused some concern with fans when he tweeted about being back on Xanax. But in an interview a few days later he clarified that he was merely quoting lyrics from his album that expressed his state of mind following Takeoff’s passing.

Quavo’s assistant and Takeoff’s mother have both sued the bowling alley where the late rapper was murdered last year. They are claiming that there was negligence in regard to both safety measures and emergency response on the night of the murder. What do you think of the video of Quavo meeting fans in traffic? Quavo Clarifies Xanax Tweet Assures Fans They Shouldn’t Worry

Earlier this week Quavo caused some fan concerns with a tweet he made. “I kno it’s been some years but now I’m taking Xanz,” he said in a tweet that got his fan’s attention. Many expressed concerns that the former Migos rapper could be returning to substance abuse. Though it took him some time to reply he eventually made a statement to VIBE clarifying what he meant and putting fan concerns to rest.

“I’m fine. I’m okay. It’s just y’all gotta listen to my lyrics. Y’all ain’t listening to the lyrics. So right now, I’m breaking them down over Twitter,” Quavo said. He explained that the tweet was merely lyrics from his song “Disciples” where he processes the tragic loss of Takeoff last year. He also assued fans that he’s doing okay. “I might say a line, I might say a bar. But if you listen to the album, those are bars and lines that I’m actually displaying on my Twitter. But I’m good. Thank y’all for y’all concerns.” Check out the full discussion below.

Quavo Clarifies Xanax Comment

Earlier this month, Quavo released his highly anticipated new album Rocket Power. The project saw the artist taking on the emotional process of his former Migos collaborator Takeoff’s murder. Takeoff was tragically killed in November of last year in Houston. The album’s first-week sales were a step back for the rapper debuting at number 18 on the Billboard 200. That came even as the album over-achieved from its initial sales projections ending up with 34k units sold.

Rocket Power contained features from Takeoff, Future, Young Thug, Huxho, and BabyDrill. The project has already received a number of music videos most recently “11:11.” That was the second new music video he released since the album came out following “Hold Me.” In the video, the rapper is seen flexing a nice car in the forest while some glitchy visual effects are layered over top of him. What do you think of Quavo’s clarification on his comments about taking Xanax? Let us know in the comment section below.

Quavo “Rocket Power” Album Review

Quavo’s Rocket Power is a tribute to his deceased nephew, fellow rapper, and Migos member Takeoff. Just prior to Takeoff’s murder, the duo released their joint album Only Built For Infinity Links in October 2022. Rocket Power was long anticipated, named in tribute to Takeoff’s “Rocket” nickname. Yet, this project isn’t the only way Quavo has paid homage to his late relative.

He performed “Without You,” a tribute song for Takeoff, at the 2023 GRAMMYs. Later, Quavo and Offset also performed a tribute to Takeoff at the 2023 BET Awards. Further, Rocket Power also has posthumous appearances by the late rapper. Many of the songs on the album find Quavo telling stories of his past with Takeoff and reflecting on his current mental state. He showcases the variety in his flows and production choices throughout. The authenticity of his bars referencing Takeoff are the central focus, but he still finds time to have a little fun, too.

Quavo Brings Emotion To The Album

Rocket Power finds Quavo delving into heartfelt verses about Takeoff. The opener, “Fueled Up,” continues the theme and has a soundbite from Takeoff that plays three times. This could be interpreted as a reference to the three members of Migos. Tracks like “Mama Told Me” have Quavo recalling advice from his mother, and “Mama!” was one of Takeoff’s most recognizable adlibs. The song is an energetic contrast to another equally sentimental song on the album, “Hold Me.” This one also finds Quavo using the emotional sample to echo his emotions as he name-drops several people over a minimal piano-based track. “Not Done Yet” and “Rocket Power” appear back to back on the tracklist and bring the project to a fitting close. The former is a motivational song over a victorious melody as Quavo promises to continue his achievements.

Quavo Brings Energy To The Album

Outside of the emotional moments, Quavo also mixes things up on Rocket Power. The most surprising track is “Galaxy,” which sounds like the dance-inspired music from Drake’s Honestly, Nevermind. Producer Alex Lusting has credits all over that album and worked on Quavo’s song, too.

On “Disciples” and “11.11,” Quavo croons and raps over the eerie trap instrumentals he has built his career around. His vocal inflections and switch-ups take full advantage of the autotune as the drums keep the bounce of the tracks at a high level. Meanwhile, “Focused,” which features Young Thug, is rhythmic as a space-like melody pairs well with Quavo’s echoed vocals. The hook-centric “Wall to Wall” is the type of track listeners expect from Quavo. Yet, he weaves some light-hearted homage to Takeoff into this one.

Quavo Gifted Fans With Two Verses From Takeoff

Quavo has two features on Rocket Power from Takeoff himself. The first one is on “Patty Cake,” where the duo displays the same chemistry they had on their collaboration album. Over blaring trumpets, the duo energetically flows with ease. While they do not trade bars, Takeoff has a small comedic contribution during Quavo’s verse. With production coming from DJ Durel, this one is a collaboration celebrated by all their longtime supporters.

Meanwhile, “Back Where It Begins” opts for a more low-tempo approach. Future, who also features on the track, brings his signature auto-tuned singing to a fittingly relaxing melody over trap drums. Takeoff’s verse has a bar that excellently summarizes the mindset of camaraderie he’s had his whole career: “I feel like if I win, then we all win.”

Quavo’s Tribute Was Done Well

Quavo used Rocket Power to pay homage to his nephew, and the sentiment was definitely felt. By balancing emotional and sentimental tracks with upbeat ones, he gave listeners various songs for different occasions. Listeners will be reminded of the energy the duo brought to their last album and their storied history as a part of Migos. The vulnerable songs showcase Quavo’s skill as a songwriter and range as an artist.

Minimal features also allowed Quavo to remain the project’s focus most of the time. This album shows the elevation of Quavo’s career and offers listeners a glimpse of where he can go next musically. However, no matter what he does, Takeoff will remain in his heart and mind as he continues to bring pride to the musical legacy they started together.

Quavo’s Assistant Sues Bowling Alley Where Takeoff Died For Negligence

About nine months after the tragic loss of Takeoff, his friends and family are still seeking justice for his passing. Moreover, Quavo’s assistant Joshua Washington, who accompanied him and Take the night suspects shot the latter, sued the location of the tragedy, 810 Billiards & Bowling in Houston, Texas. The lawsuit against the venue, its owners, and property managers alleges gross negligence of security measures and emergency responses to the shooting. In fact, Washington was one of three other individuals who sustained injuries as a result of it, with the late Migo being the only casualty. Readers may remember that Kirsnick Khari Ball’s mother, Titania Davenport, also sued the entertainment venue for similar reasons.

Furthermore, her suit also brought forth allegations that the venue ignored calls for stricter security amid rumors that it became a crime hotspot. She seeks “compensatory, special, economic, consequential, general, punitive, and all other damages permissible under Texas law.” However, it’s unclear as of writing this article what outcome Washington seeks from this new legal action, although they’re assumedly similar damages. Regardless, this means that there’s now more pressure than ever on the venue to answer for their supervision.

Quavo & Takeoff Performing In 2018

Still, 810 Billiards & Bowling issued a public denial of any responsibility in this tragic incident, which Davenport’s lawsuit aimed to disprove. “[The] Defendants provided no screening mechanisms, no after-hour controls or security measures, and no enforcement of rules or industry standards to deter crime against their invitees, to include [Takeoff],” the suit alleges. “Social media posting in advance of the party made it clear that not only basic security measures needed to be followed, but advance planning and consideration should have been taken into account.

“Defendants knew or should have known that a significant number of violent crimes were committed at the subject premises and in the surrounding area, but negligently failed to protect invitees like [Takeoff] from the risks of violent crime,” it continued. “Defendants negligently failed to take necessary and unique precautions due to the specific event and the attendees. [They] knew that based on the nature of the party, celebrities would more likely than not be in attendance and potentially be the targets of crime.” We’ll see if this additional lawsuit will result in true accountability for the venue.
