SZA Named Woman Of The Year By 2023 Billboard Women In Music Awards

SZA’s list of accolades only continues to get longer. She’s been consistently breaking Billboard records with her sophomore album, SOS. Accordingly, the magazine announced on Friday (February 10) that they’ll be honouring the 33-year-old at an upcoming ceremony next month. At that time, the R&B vocalist will take home a trophy declaring her Woman of the Year.

In a statement, Billboard Editorial Director Hannah Karp explains the Women in Music Awards’ obvious decision to celebrate SZA. “Since she burst onto the scene in 2017, SZA has defied genres and continually released raw, powerful songs which have landed her music on the Billboard charts,” she said. “The release of her latest album, SOS has solidified her as a distinct force in contemporary R&B, and catapulted her into superstardom.”

As Complex notes, Abbott Elementary creator Quinta Brunson will be hosting the forthcoming event on March 1st. It will take place at Inglewood’s YouTube Theatre. Several other notable women in the industry are going to receive similar honours. Lana Del Rey will take home the Visionary Award, while rappers Doechii and Latto are receiving Honda’s Rising Star Award and the Powerhouse Award respectively.

Additionally, Kim Petras, Ivy Queen, Lainey Wilson, and TWICE, will be honoured by Billboard for their own endeavours. Others who were previously recognized in SZA’s category include Lady Gaga, Cardi B, Madonna, and Taylor Swift.

Aside from the quickly approaching ceremony, the Ctrl hitmaker is also gearing up for her first-ever arena tour. In just a few days, she’ll kick off in Columbus, Ohio with Omar Apollo acting as her special guest. The starlet will stop in a total of 17 cities over the coming weeks before closing out in Los Angeles on March 22nd.

SZA’s latest feat is certainly an impressive one, but it’s only the tip of the iceberg in terms of exciting things she’s been working on lately. Firstly, the “Go Gina” singer teased her curvaceous figure while listening to Ashanti in an Instagram Story thirst trap. Of course, her latest music release also has the world talking.

On Thursday (February 9), the TDE starlet joined her good friend Lizzo on the remix of “Special.” This mark’s the duo’s first time collaborating musically – fingers crossed it won’t be the last. Listen to the Detroit native’s reimagined track here, and check back later for more music news updates.

SZA Hopped On Lizzo’s ‘Special’ For An Extravagant Remix That Makes The Song Even More Inspiring

Lizzo and SZA both had massive 2022s with Special and SOS. As two world-dominating stars, they’ve dealt with a lot of hate, whether that’s Lizzo receiving body-shaming comments or SZA being criticized for exploring romantic relationships in her work. The pair always know how to stand up for themselves, and they teamed up for a gorgeous remix of Lizzo’s title track which reckons with staying strong despite the people who try to keep you down.

The song opens with a bewitching verse from SZA, immediately addressing the constant influx of hate she receives and not hesitating to call it out: “Woke up this morning to somebody in a video / Talking about something I posted in a video / If it wasn’t me then would you even get offended? Or / Is it just because I’m Black and heavy?”

With SZA hopping on the track and contributing strong, beautiful vocals, “Special” becomes even more motivational and encouraging than it originally was. The both of them together are unstoppable, and it’s sure to be a chart-topping hit that’ll remind fans of their worth.

SZA Joins Lizzo On “Special” Remix

Lizzo and SZA just released a remix of the former’s standout track from last year, the uplifting and soulful “Special.” Moreover, it’s the title track on Lizzo’s 2022 album, not SZA’s SOS cut of the same name. Even though this new version doesn’t switch up much from the original, it was already powerful to begin with. Furthermore, the TDE vocalist adds some gorgeous background vocals throughout its runtime. Given Lizzo’s recent Grammy win for Record of the Year, this song takes on a particularly triumphant feeling. As SZA supports her industry colleague, you can feel the confidence and gratitude pour out.

However, the “Kill Bill” singer didn’t stop there. In fact, she opens up this new version with a short, but thematically fitting narrative. Throughout her lines and beneath her soothing vocal tone, she handles negativity from external sources and finds comfort in self-affirmation. While many might try to bring them down, both artists look inward for satisfaction and are proud of their emotions. After her verse ends, the chart-dominating artist supports Lizzo as she sings her parts. Even if it’s a minimal addition, it’s certainly a powerful one that adds more dynamism to the track.

Meanwhile, SZA also appeared at the Grammys and presented Bad Bunny with the Best Música Urbana Album. After all the incredible success of SOS, we’re sure she’ll make a show-stopping return to the Recording Academy next year. Still, what did you think of Lizzo and SZA teaming up on the former’s inspiring album track, “Special”? However you feel, let us know in the comments and check out some notable lines from SZA’s verse down below. Also, if you haven’t heard the song yet, you can find the remix on your preferred streaming service. As always, check back in with HNHH for the best new music releases in hip-hop, R&B, and beyond.

Quotable Lyrics
Woke up this morning to somebody judging me
No surprise they judging me, don’t know who I’m ‘posed to be
I’m just acting up, I’m pressed as f**k and never saying sorry
Found it in the end, I can only do it for me

SZA’s Curves Capture Fans’ Attention As She Thirst Traps & Listens To Ashanti

It took over five years for SZA to deliver the follow-up to her debut Ctrl album earlier this winter. Still, fans aren’t holding it against her. In fact, they’re so happy to have new music from the “Drew Barrymore” hitmaker that they’ve helped her beat numerous records and add more RIAA certifications under her belt. The music is obviously a huge reason why people love her. However, SZA’s thirst traps also play a key role in keeping her audience intrigued.

Earlier this week, the 33-year-old couldn’t help but flaunt her thick figure on social media. Wearing a light brown catsuit complete with plenty of cutouts in the top half, SZA gave viewers of her Instagram Story a nearly 360-degree look at her body. As the clip begins, she stands to the side, making her pert booty the focal point.

The Missouri native soundtracked her thirst trap to Ashanti’s “Movies,” showing love to one of the many great female artists to come before her. As the song continues, SZA turns to give the camera a view from the front. She zooms in and out on her hourglass figure. A huge smile spreads across her face as her sparkle-clad outfit magically reflects in the light.

The R&B diva’s body was a hot topic as fans (and haters) spent years debating whether she went under the knife. On her sophomore album, SZA cleared up the rumours. At the time, she confirmed to the world that she previously went through with a BBL. The project’s opener finds her braggadociously rhyming, “So classic, that ass so fat / It look natural, it’s not.”

Her thirst traps have certainly been known to capture the world’s attention. Of course, that doesn’t mean SZA’s musical career is any less impressive. Her latest album, SOS, has officially been certified Platinum by the RIAA just a few months after its arrival. She’s clearly hit her stride while working with TDE, but as it turns out, the singer had aspirations of joining Odd Future before becoming a part of Punch’s label.

“Quiet as it’s kept, I wanted to be with [them],” she said of Tyler, The Creator’s collective. “I felt more like a Christian Clancy girl,” the songstress added of the artist’s manager. Read everything SZA had to say about almost working with Odd Future here, and check back later for more pop culture news updates.
