Shenseea was definitely hinting that something bigger could be coming down the pipeline over the last year and change. The Jamaican-bred singer and rapper was dropping a bevy of singles in that time frame, but only the 2024 releases would make the final cut. From “Hit & Run” featuring Masicka and Di Genius to “Dolla,” the “Shen Yeng Anthem” artist was giving fans different sonics on each cut. That was part of the mission for Shenseea on Never Gets Late Here, according to an Apple Music interview.
“Iv’e always been an artist who just always tries new things because that’s how magic happens,” Shenseea explained. “My album is so versatile. It’s almost like you can like this one today-but tomorrow is a different day.” Perhaps part of the reason for this massive undertaking of different genres is her gunning for recognition from critics in particular. In another chat with People, she has said that she has “no expectations” for her sophomore release. However, these statements would leave you to believe otherwise.
“I really want one of these songs to go further than any of my songs has ever been. One wish is to definitely get a Grammy,” she said. “I always said that I want to win a reggae Grammy first before I win any other Grammy because it’s where I’m from. I don’t want to win just for myself, I want to win it for my country, I want to win it for my family, my friends, the people who grew up with me, my team.” Shenseea definitely has some potential winners in the tracklist, and we are wishing her the best of luck with this release going forward.
What are your thoughts on Never Gets Late Here by Shenseea? Is this her best album so far, why or why not? Who had the strongest guest performance? Is she one of the top voices in dancehall/reggae? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Shenseea. In April 2018, Cardi B burst onto the rap scene with her debut album, Invasion of Privacy. The record-breaking, Grammy-winning project turned Cardi B into a household name. From the chart-topping “Bodak Yellow,” to the club anthem “I Like It,” the industry welcomed a fresh new femcee onto the scene. However, six years down the line, and Cardi is yet to make a second attempt to recreate, or surpass the magic of Invasion of Privacy.
She hasn’t been idle though. Cardi B’s presence has continued to be felt in the years since her debut album. Guest appearances, hot summer singles, and million-dollar ads have kept her in the spotlight. However, the fans are aching for a new body of work. Especially since the rapper has teased a follow-up for some time now. She recently announced that the album will no longer arrive in 2024, but her label, Atlantic Records, thinks otherwise. In the meantime, all we can do is wait and reminisce about all the times we’ve come close to tasting a new project from Cardi.
In April 2020, on the anniversary of her debut album, Cardi B promised to release the sequel to Invasion of Privacy. “Happy Birthday Miss INVASION OF PRIVACY,” she wrote. “My first baby, “Im workin on her sister so I can birth her this year.” With this news, fans felt rest assured that new material was on the way.
On August 7 of the same year, Cardi released “WAP.” The chart-topping, controversial single featured Megan Thee Stallion, and gained massive airplay. “WAP” was expected to be the lead single off Cardi B’s upcoming second studio album. While discussing the success of the single with Angie Martinez, she discussed the likelihood of a sophomore album dropping. “I’m already plotting my next move,” she said. “I don’t have my album ready yet. But even when I feel I have my album ready, I’m still debating when I should put out an album too.”
2021: Cardi Goes Live
In April 2021, Cardi welcomed her second child with Offset. Although she still performed while heavily pregnant, fans understandably believed she would take some time off after giving birth. By December, on an Instagram Live session, Cardi B announced that her sophomore album was set to drop in 2022. This sparked widespread excitement from her fans. She blamed the pandemic for slowing down her album plans. “I want to do real f**kin’ interviews. I want to see people and sit down,” she said. Cardi also shared that she wanted to tour, as well as “go to the club and shake my a** to my own music.”
On June 21, 2022, Cardi B released a career-spanning video compilation of her hits and implicitly teased her upcoming album. She captioned the video: “Just a little reminder feeling like 2020 when I had to come out and STEP to remind them. P.S-IM GONNA STOMP THIS TIME AROUND.” On July 12, Cardi was on the cover of Vogue Singapore and hinted at a 2022 release for her sophomore album.
Throughout 2023, Cardi B released strategic singles. This included another collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion, “Bongos.” As with every drop, fans were on their toes, hoping that an album announcement was on the way. In January, Cardi B stirred excitement among fans with an Instagram post that led to speculation about her new album. This came after fans noticed she followed a new Instagram account, @albumcb2, which reposted a picture of Cardi in the studio. Later in May, in an interview with Rolling Stone, she promised fans a lot to look forward to in the summer. Moreover, during an interview with The Breakfast Club, Cardi B revealed her plans to release her album in early 2024 and go into tour mode immediately after. She also mentioned that she had been hard at work in the studio, and making final touches to her music.
Q1 2024: This Could Be The Year
2024 has come around, and Cardi B is still setting the stage for her upcoming album. She posted a video on Instagram showing a folder of unreleased songs on a laptop. The latest of these videos was recorded in January 2023. She also shared that she’d been dealing with the pressure to release new music. However, she has promised fans that this will be the year. “I promise y’all this year, I’m not letting my anxiety, I’m not letting what haters say, I’m not letting what fans say [stop me]. If I do a song, I’m gonna just f—ing drop it.”
She subsequently dropped the singles: “Enough (Miami)” and “Like What (Freestyle).” This further fueled speculation about the album’s imminent release. “Enough(Miami)” would go on to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. Additionally, the music video for “Like What,” directed by Offset, teased fans with the message: “this is just the beginning… stay tuned.”
Q2 2024: Cardi Vs. Atlantic Records
April 6, 2024 marked the sixth anniversary of Invasion Of Privacy. Much to the delight of her fans, Cardi B confirmed via Instagram Story that her sophomore album will be released in 2024. She also expressed her excitement for the project. Since the news dropped, she began to engage with her fans on social media platforms especially X (Twitter), sharing updates and snippets of her work. However, on May 14th, she announced her decision to make a change of plans in a series of exchanges with some fans online.
After getting called out for the buildup over the years, Cardi revealed that the album would not be released in 2024 as she stated earlier. Instead, she announced that she was opting to focus on her well-being and other commitments. “anyway NO album this year I don’t care I’m relaxing this year,” she tweeted. “Dropping these features I already committed to and traveling and enjoying my summer.” This decision to delay the album’s release was met with equal parts disappointment and understanding from her fans.
On May 16, just two days later, the narrative changed once again. Despite Cardi B’s previous statements, her label, Atlantic Records, jokingly teased that the album is still set to drop before the end of the year. “Cardi B’s upcoming album is one of the most anticipated this year. We can’t wait to put it out, even if we have to sneak into her studio and take it!” Now it’s just a matter of time before we know who to believe.
Omar Apollo is a balladeer that you are going to want to keep an ear out for going forward. The Apple Music Up Next artist and 2023 GRAMMY nominee is not someone we typically cater toward, as he blurs the lines between bedroom pop and soul. But he is such an intriguing talent, and he just so happens to be weaving in and out of hip-hop adjacent lanes. A couple of days ago, Omar Apollo announced his sophomore album, and today, the second single from it, “Dispose of Me,” is here.
According to Uproxx, the Hobart, Indiana native revealed this exciting news to his fan base on Instagram. “MY SOPHOMORE ALBUM “GOD SAID NO” – out June 28th. This album is a reflection of my life for the past 2 years and I’m happy to finally present it to you.” Omar’s debut, Ivory, dropped in 2022 and had features from Kali Uchis and Daniel Caesar. For God Said No, the soon-to-be 27-year-old crooner will be working alongside Mustafa, as well as actor Pedro Pascal.
As we said, “Dispose of Me” is Omar’s second helping from the project, with “Spite” being the lead-off track. This latest offering is a stunning, yet heartbreaking tale about seeing something special in a partner, regardless of how long the other person has known them. “It don’t matter if it’s twenty-five years, twenty-five months / It don’t matter if it’s twenty-five days, it was real love / We got too much history.” You can check out the new single with the link above. God Said No is due to be out on June 28.
What are your thoughts on this brand-new single “Dispose of Me” by Omar Apollo? Do you think this is the best promotional track off his upcoming album, why or why not? Does this get you excited for God Said No? Does he deserve more shine than he is receiving? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Quotable Lyrics:
You’re making me feel insecure about things I ain’t thought about in years You’re bringing out my fears And I don’t see you anymore, but the words you left me are always in my ears Always in my tears You’re a gentleness my body just won’t forget You’re a handprint on my heart I just can’t possess
Cardi B has finally begun rolling out her sophomore album this year and her fans have been digging the lead singles. Both “Like What (Freestyle)” and “Enough (Miami)” have conveyed uber levels of confidence with convincing flows and banging beats. However, sometimes it is good to fake it until you make it. That seems to be the energy that the Bronx native is giving off based on a recent tweet. According to HipHopDX, Cardi B expressed how truly nervous she is to drop this album, even with some incredible support from Missy Elliott. This all began after the legend replied to a X user saying that Cardi needs to stick to what she knows fans will like.
Missy essentially said “f*** that” and to shoot for the stars. “Absolutely yes it’s the time to experiment take it from someone who experimented and many others which allowed them to NOT be BOXED in to one sound and style… I can name tons who each of their albums sounded nothing like the one before” That is when Cardi came in and revealed how she is handling all of this.
“Yeup!!! I’m a little nervous… but I don’t care! I’m liking doing things that my ears want to listen to and reflecting the moods I been in. It feels good,” she said. Missy has been nothing short of incredible to Cardi throughout these last few months especially. She showed tons of love to Cardi’s “Like What” track, which sampled Missy’s “She’s A B****.”
What are your thoughts on Cardi B admitting she is nervous for her new album despite Missy Elliott being in her corner? Do you think her next project will be a success, why or why not? Could this mean we have a collaboration coming from them on this LP? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Joyner Lucas has been trying to perfect his sophomore album, Not Now, I’m Busy, for quite some time now. The Massachusetts rapper detailed his creative process in a lengthy Instagram post. The tape has gone through tons of reworks, especially the tracklist. In his message to the fans, he made sure to acknowledge that he has been mindful of their feedback. Today, the LP will see what its fate will be in the coming weeks.
Even though “Seventeen,” which is a tribute to Mac Miller’s classic track “Donald Trump,” did not receive the most glowing reviews, it still made it. But, Joyner Lucas did scrap a ton of previous promotional singles such as “Blackout” and “Devil’s Work 2.” He did impress us with “Sticks & Stones” and “Best For Me.” Each one boasted impressive guest performances from Conway the Machine and Jelly Roll, respectively.
However, the high-profile names are scattered throughout the tracklist. Joyner was able to nab posthumous material from DMX, NBA YoungBoy shows up for “Cut U Off,” and Logic and Twista create a lyrical threesome. So far, Lucas’ IG followers are digging the album so far and hopefully that praise continues. Go run up Lucas’s new album now.
What are your thoughts on this brand-new album, Not Now, I’m Busy, by SiR? Is this his best project to date, why or why not? What songs are you gravitating toward and why? On this date at the top of the 21st century, legendary Yonkers trio The L.O.X.(Living Off Experience) released their sophomore full-length LP appropriately titled We Are The Streets on the Ruff Ryders/Interscope imprint.
Produced primarily by Double R in-house producer Swizz Beatz, We Are The Streets saw substantially more commercial success than its predecessor Money, Power And Respect, which solidified The L.O.X.’s hardcore Hip Hop fanbase. This sophomore album secured The l.O.X.’s tenure in the game despite their fallout with Sean “Diddy” Combs and Bad Boy Records not long after. The album was propelled by hit singles, but ironically the production of two of the three main singles was outsourced; ‘Ryde Or Die Bitch”, which was produced by Timbaland, and “Recognize”, which was produced by DJ Premier.
The album saw a short tenure on the Billboard charts, reaching Number 5 on Billboard 200 and Number 2 on US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.
Salute to Jada, Sheek Styles, Swizz, Eve, Dee, Waah, and the entire Ruff Ryder camp for this crucial piece of Hip Hop history!
If you are looking to discover some new rappers to add to your daily rotation but do not know where to start, head over to the city of Memphis. Right now, it is one of the key hotspots for new names and legends. However, the “old heads” are beginning to pass the torch in a way. But, these young bucks are not ignoring the greats that have paved the way for them. One of those artists is YTB Fatt.
He got his start in the industry this year in fact. His first song on streaming debuted on March 10. “Shot Off Gumbo” featured the likes of a city veteran, Moneybagg Yo, and Fat Wizza. Since then, Fatt has not looked back one bit, dropping single after single, as well as his first tape, Who Is Fatt.
After that single that we mentioned, Fatt also signed with Yo’s label, Bread Gang Ent. With all of this momentum, what better way to keep it up than with another project? That is exactly what he did by dropping Foxes Only. This one has some impressive features such as Lil Yachty, BabyDrill, and fellow Memphis resident, GloRilla. Fatt possesses that smoky and raspy delivery that some of the artists from this city rep. What we can tell you about him is that he loves using heavy piano keys in his beats. So if you like tracks like that with a lot of rowdiness, than you might want to check it out.
What are your initial thoughts on this brand-new album, Foxes Only, by YTB Fatt? Is this record better than Who Is Fatt, why or why not? Which songs are you gravitating toward the most so far? Can you see him emerging from the Memphis scene as a top-five talent? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. With that in mind, be sure to leave all of your hottest takes in the comments section below. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest breaking news around YTB Fatt. Morden, South London singer and songwriter Sampha is an extremely elusive artist. However, fans are always willing to wait however long it needs to be to get new music from him. In this case, six years have gone by since the release of his debut tape, Process. That album won the coveted Mercury Prize, which is the award for the best album to come from the UK or Ireland. He might be in contention for that honor yet again with his sophomore album, Lahai. What set that record apart from the rest was its ability to tell emotional stories of isolation.
Lahai is sort of a follow-up in a way to these previous feelings. According to Sampha’s Apple Music interview, he shows that he is beginning to recover from all of the loss and anxieties he was dealing with. Hence the previous album was titled the way it was. He says, “I don’t necessarily live by what I’m saying but there’s times where I recognize that I need to reconnect to family and friends—times where I can really lose connection by being too busy with my own things.”
In addition to this, Sampha shared some meaning behind the record on his Instagram a little bit ago. This was on his announcement post for Lahai. “My grandfather’s name My middle name My next musical chapter My next album.” He continued, “Fever Dreams. Continuums. Dancing. Generations. Syncopation. Bridges. Grief. Motherlands. Love. Spirit. Fear. Flesh. Flight.” You can experience all of this and more with the links above.
What are your initial thoughts on this brand-new album from Sampha, Lahai? Is this project better than his debut LP, Process? What are your top five tracks right now? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. With that in mind, be sure to leave all of your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest breaking news around Sampha, as well as all of the hottest album drops.
Offset has been on quite the run with the rollout of his sophomore solo album, SET IT OFF. In 2022, he delivered a number of stand-out features before unleashing singles like “CODE” and “54321.” However, the singles he released throughout the last few months have strongly indicated that he’s ready to be back in the spotlight.
The album’s lead single “JEALOUSY” features his rap star wife, Cardi B showcasing their chemistry and their creative range, taking inspiration from Baby Boy for the official music video, along with a cameo from Taraji P. Henson. Then, he unveiled “FAN,” an homage to the King Of Pop, Michael Jackson. SET IT OFF marks Offset’s first solo album since Father Of 4 in 2019, and much has happened in his life since. The tragic death of Takeoff undoubtedly took a toll on Offset. Unfortunately, the late Migos member doesn’t have a feature on the project. Still, at 21 tracks, it seems Offset had a lot to share and his fans were eager to hear it all.
Offset’s SET IT OFF album banks off of his versatility, offering various moods and unique vocal techniques. For the most part, his attempts to stretch his vocal capabilities outside of his comfort zone are successful. However, it’s clear that he’s daring to try something different with each try.
The biggest strength of the project is that it offers variety without actually compromising Offset’s signature style. Even with the production, the use of easily recognizable samples is tasteful. There’s a solid mix of records that jump from Offset’s inevitable flexing to more intimate and emotional joints. The latter, while minimal, are still some of the strongest moments on the album.
Offset’s ad-libs and flow have been his greatest strength since Migos blew up. On SET IT OFF, he expands beyond these signature techniques, although the results vary. On “HOP OUT THE VAN,” his high-pitch delivery contrasts the deep looped vocal sample and together, it sounds uncharacteristically odd. With verses that don’t offer anything noteworthy, this one could have been left off.
Meanwhile, on “I’M ON” and “DISSOLVE” his auto-tuned croons pair well with the atmospheric melodies as he dives into some emotional vulnerabilities. He trades in these vulnerabilities for intimacies on “PRINCESS CUT” which features Chlöe. She slightly modifies the hook of the song to sing from her perspective which creatively reinforces the intimate atmosphere it has.
Naturally, Offset’s album has some bangers that highlight his inimitable ad-libbed flows. However, it’s the production that allows him to find these pockets that truly stand out. “BIG DAWG” and “SKYAMI” share space-like melodies that showcase Offset’s delivery well. The latter features fellow Atlanta rapper Mango Foo. “DOPE BOY” which features Young Nudy, continues this formula alongside an infectious hook.
The Metro Boomin-produced “NIGHT VISION” rides the border between hype and low-key through its dreamy soundscape. Throughout these offerings, Offset fleshes out a universe with each song, switching his energy and pairing them with their respective instrumentals.
Perhaps, the most anticipated aspect of this project surrounds Offset’s state of mind. Between issues surrounding his marriage, welcoming his fifth child, and the death of Takeoff, Offset promised to provide insight into his personal life on SET IT OFF. On the album intro, “On The River,” he declares, “I’m telling the truth, I became the one when I got out the group,” with equal parts pride and honesty. It’s a grand statement to make, especially when many felt he was at fault during the Migos break-up.
On “SAY MY GRACE” with Travis Scott he wonders: “Why I lose my brother to bullets? / Why I lose my grandma to cancer? / Why mе, God? I need answers.” It all comes together during the penultimate track “UPSIDE DOWN.” Offset gives a glimpse of his mental state over some minimal production and background vocals that enhance his lyrics. A contrast to the rest of the project, “UPSIDE DOWN” largely feels like a stream-of-consciousness. It’s a necessary moment on the project that leads to the closer, “HEALTHY,” where Offset balances his vulnerabilities and his braggadocio tendencies expertly.
The Breakfast Club has been on the air for a long time, and over the years, we’ve seen some of the hosts and their celebrity guests come to blows while listeners tune in. Natalie Nunn recently put Charlamagne Tha God on blast for reasons unbeknownst to him, and Chloe Bailey didn’t hold back this spring when she called DJ Envy out for not listening to her In Pieces album before their interview. The Charleston-born media personality found himself nearly feuding with their latest visitor, Cardi B, this week, though the rap diva managed to keep her cool as Charlamagne pressed her about her sophomore LP.
“I’m back outside,” the New York native happily sang during her appearance on TBC. “You’ve got an album dropping next year?” Tha God asked Bardi. “Yes,” she confirmed. “What quarter?” he inquired, earning a laugh from others in the room. “I’m really looking for first quarter,” she admitted. “How you gonna narrow it down? How many records you think you got?” the journalist’s questions continued to roll out. “I wanna narrow it down to at least like 18,” Cardi reflected.
The skepticism in Charlamagne’s voice is obvious as he asks the Hustlers actress, “Are you there? Are you close?” Rather than letting her signature attitude shine through, Cardi kept her energy sweet and soft before Jess Hilarious spoke up to check her friend. “Shut up,” she told the podcaster.
“You don’t have to drop the second album, though,” Tha God insisted. “You don’t have to put out an album,” he told the “WAP” artist in the studio today. “But I have it!” she insisted. “I believe she got a bunch of songs,” the 45-year-old speculated, though he doesn’t seem sold that Cardi will be able to combine her work into a full project.
Cardi B had plenty to discuss with Jess Hilarious and her co-hosts on The Breakfast Club this week. Besides spilling some tea on her sophomore LP, she also discussed her recent microphone-throwing incident, her “Bongos” collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion, and being a wife to Offset and mother to their two children. Check it all out in the video above, and tap back in later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.
