“I just feel like I haven’t done [a personal album] yet and I feel like it was overdue for my fans.” Another cool tidbit from that interview was the story behind the nostalgic childhood photo that is the album’s cover art. “That was one of the images my mom just sent me one day out of nowhere. She actually inspired me to name [the album] that. Because when she sent the picture, I was just like ‘dang’ because I only got a few pictures from my childhood. That was one of the three.” Clearly this album means a lot to Yung Bleu in a lot of ways, so be sure to support the record with the links above.

Mez Enlists Isaiah Rashad, SAINt JHN, MAVI, & More For “The Loading EP”

Raleigh, North Carolina rapper and wordsmith extraordinaire Mez has just come through with a new project called The Loading EP. The seven-song set runs just under 19 minutes long and has a pretty impressive feature list to boot. It is clear that Mez did not want this to be a thrown together offering. Him putting care into everything, including the guests, shows that he was not messing around.

Childish Major, Kurtis Wells, Isaiah Rashad, SAINt JHN, MAVI, and Leon Bridges were all called upon to deliver. Each guest certainly brings a different energy to each cut, helping to diversify the sounds. For Mez, this is his first solo project of any kind, despite being in the game since 2015. Most people might have heard of him through his contributions to Dr. Dre’s last record, Compton.

Even though this is a solid listen through and through, fans are definitely still awaiting an album. He definitely has the ability to carry the load in a longer format and we cannot wait for it. One song that we wanted to highlight is “Bat Phone.” Fans have also been digging it, as it has quickly risen into his top five most popular tracks on Spotify. Part of the reason is the writing, but also the sample. If it sounds familiar, that is because Future and Metro Boomin used the same one on “Beat It” from WE STILL DON’T TRUST YOU.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new EP The Loading EP by Mez? Which tracks are you gravitating toward the most right now and why? Who had the strongest feature on the project and why? Do you think he has something bigger coming down the road? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Lola Brooke Updates “Dennis Daughter” With Four Extra Cuts On The “Deluxe Version”

Lola Brooke is continuing to carve a nice niche for herself in the crowded rap scene of New York. From East Coast, drill, boom bap, and everything in between, it can be easy to get lost in the shuffle. That is especially true if you do not have some quality that makes you recognizable right away. Well, Lola Brooke has plenty of personality and an ear-grabbing voice which is why her album Dennis Daughter (Deluxe Version) has done so well.

But wait. When did she drop a bonus edition for Dennis Daughter. It was just yesterday that the tough as nails femcee tacked on an additional four cuts to the original 12-song tracklist. So far the tracks that have been working for Lola are “You” with Bryson Tiller, “Bend It Ova,” with A Boogie Wit da Hoodie, and “Don’t Play With It” with Latto and Yung Miami.

With all of these tracks from her first project doing so well, why not add more juice to an already fan-favorite body of work? Some of the tracks that bolstered the set of songs were already released. Those include the A Boogie collab, as well as “Becky” with fellow New York drill collective 41. Russ Leaves Off Two Pack “That’s My Girl & Tired”

When it comes to new music Fridays, there is an artist that you can almost always count on to drop every week. That would be Secaucus, New Jersey rapper and singer, Russ. The polarizing veteran just continues to churn out song after song and beat after beat. For this latest offering, Russ is actually giving us a two-pack called “That’s My Girl & Tired.”

If you have been keeping your ears to the ground about his recent output, you know that he has been going for more personal tracks. Some have talked about messed up relationships, other have seen Russ speak passionately about not folding and letting the devil take over your life. This time around, the themes are quite different, while also sticking to the formula as of late. “That’s My Girl” is an obvious deviation from what we have heard, as he goes for a raunchy pop rap/R&B crossover.

Listen To “That’s My Girl & Tired” By Russ

On this cut he is loving the intimacy he is sharing with this woman and it does give us some pretty outlandish bars. “P***y got lips so of course I’m gonna kiss it (Mwah)Is it shallow if I say I love the way you deepthroat me? (Haha) / We can use toys (Yeah), we on some grown s***” Then, on “Tired,” Russ is venting on the mic about things in life he is sick of dealing with or seeing in society. Every bar begins with “Tired of” before going into what he does not like. With this two-pack you are getting tongue in cheek and serious, so each side of Russ’ fan base should be happy with at least one of the two tracks.

What are your thoughts on these brand-new singles “That’s My Girl & Tired” by Russ? Are these some of his stronger releases as of late, why or why not? Which one of the two are you enjoying more? Do you think he is getting ready for a new album soon? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Quotable Lyrics From “That’s My Girl”:

I love it when you use your mouth as an alarm clock (Give me)
Doesn’t matter if I’m tired, I’ma see it through
Real men still wear pink and we eat it too
Good girl, look at you, go crazy (Go crazy)
Eyes on my when you swallow my babies (Look, look)
Put your hands behind your back (Back)

Berner Grabs Conway The Machine, Jay Worthy, Paul Wall & More For “The Farmer’s Market”

One thing about a fair amount of West Coast rappers is that they know how to drop chill and relaxing tracks. Berner is one of those artists and he is doing just that on his newest project The Farmer’s Market. The veteran who hails from San Francisco, California is back with his first record of the year and is following up a bustling 2023. It was period in which he dropped two albums being Trophies and Arrogance Is Ignorance (One Shot Kill).

Berner did not release any promotional singles for The Farmer’s Market, which is a different approach compared to his collab tape with OHGEESY, Trophies. However, what he lacks in teaser tracks, he makes up for in the feature department. On this effort, Berner taps rappers from all over to help bring that similar laid-back tone. On here, you will find names like Conway the Machine, Paul Wall, Jay Worthy, Curren$y and more.

Tracks were are messing with so far include “Cases” with the Buffalo MC Conway and “Mouth Piece” with Jay Worthy. Be sure to check out the album with the links above.

BbyMutha Delivers Her Experimentative Album “Sleep Paralysis”

If you have not heard of BbyMutha, you need to get hip right away. The Chattanooga, Tennessee rapper is bringing a refreshing sound to the current trap heavy scene in the South. The 34-year-old feels like that fun aunt in your family with how goofy and carefree she portrays herself in her music. Releasing material since 2017, her style has only gotten more experimental and trippier over the years. All that creativity has brought BbyMutha to this point in dropping maybe her best work to date with sleep paralysis.

Earlier this year in February, we got word that she would coming through with this project through press release. On the same day of that news, she went on to drop one of the album’s promotional tracks “go!” Furthermore, we can officially say that BbyMutha is now on her self-titled tour. It will run through June 2 and will also see her travel across the pond, a surely exciting thing for relatively small artist.

Across this album, the expressive MC is delivering some incredibly rich and colorful beats. Surprisingly, BbyMutha only brought on two producers for it. Those two names inlcude J-Rick and Rock Floyd. Big ups to them for getting wacky and presenting some truly unheard of production. BbyMutha does not get lost in the fold though that much either. Outside of “piss!” there really is not a track that she takes a backseat to. Be sure to run up sleep paralysis with the links above.

Mozzy Pens Street Stories Across “CHILDREN OF THE SLUMS”

Prolific Sacramento, California rapper Mozzy has just come back with a new album for the first time in nearly two years with CHILDREN OF THE SLUMS. Over the last six months or so, he began the rollout for the project with “IF I DIE RIGHT NOW” back in October. Then, in November, he would return with “FREE JUJU,” and then conclude the promotional singles in March with “JADED.” On the independently released record, Mozzy taps Fridayy, Eric Bellinger, fellow Mozzy Records signees E Mozzy and Celly Ru, and Afira.

If you are an Apple Music listener, you will find one platform-specific edition. In addition to the 17 songs, Mozzy included four music videos for “MISS BIG BRUH,” “JADED,” “FREE JUJU,” and “IF I DIE RIGHT NOW.” Furthermore, there is an instrumental only version. Part of the reason for the uncharacteristic gap in between projects was due to Mozzy’s arrest in 2022. He was dealt with a federal gun charge and served 10 months at the United States Penitentiary Atwater. On top of that, he was released for a second shorter stint in July 2023 for a shooting that occurred in Kansas at a club that he performed at.

In a recently published interview with XXL, Mozzy went on to explain that he did not feel like talking about those legal issues on CHILDREN OF THE SLUMS. He expressed his lack of interest overall, in “glorify[ing] my L’s.” “And I feel like that was a big L, but everything happens for a reason and I used it to my advantage. To sit down, reflect, make some new material, and here you have it CHILDREN OF THE SLUMS.”

Brother Ali & UnJUST Drop Two More Promo Singles With “Worthy” & “Gauntlet” Featuring Roc Marciano

Brother Ali is one of the more intriguing prospects in the underground conscious rap scene. The longtime Wisconsin artist has an intricate pen game and understated delivery. He likes focusing more on the words rather than the cadence, which is highly commendable. Brother Ali is doing more of the same great stuff on two new singles, “Worthy” and “Gauntlet.”

Both of these Brother Ali tracks are produced by unJUST, as have the last three singles. All five are out to bring hype to the rapper’s forthcoming record Love & Service, his first in three years. The project is due on April 26 and to our knowledge, we know of one feature. That would be Roc Marciano, who actually features on “Gauntlet.” For those wondering where he dropped the former and “Worthy,” Brother Ali dropped the Roc collab on Apple Music only, and the solo track on Spotify.

If you want to hear the rest of the great talent behind the mic, check out “Worthy” and “Gauntlet” on their respective platforms.

What are your thoughts on these brand-new singles, “Worthy” and “Gauntlet,” by Brother Ali, unJUST, and Roc Marciano? Which track is the better of the two and why? Sematary Delivers 16-Song Mixtape “Bloody Angel”

If you are looking for a dose of instant energy go check out Sematary. His music is really different from most of the rappers even in his niche space. The California native has been successful with this artistic approach and making it all the more impressive, is that he is doing this independently. For 2024, Sematary is really looking to hammer home his unique star status with Bloody Angel.

This is his brand-new mixtape and follow-up to a 2023 five-song EP, King Of The Graveyard. Apparently, this was supposed to be some sort of sequel to that short collection of tracks, according to Genius. However, Sematary did not get favorable feedback on it, which led him to switching up how to proceed forward with Bloody Angel. Leading up to this mixtape’s release, the 23-year-old multi-talent put out a handful of singles for it.

Buddy Brings Effortlessly Fun Tunes On “Don’t Forget To Breathe”

Buddy, a Compton, California rapper and singer, is someone we feel does not get enough praise. He has some underrated solo hits, as well as some fun features. He has been a steady veteran in the genre for about seven years now and has consistently dropped solid projects. The same can be said about Buddy this time around too with Don’t Forget To Breathe.

This is now the fourth LP from him and his first since 2022. In fact, it was nearly two years to the day that Buddy put out Superghetto. That was a star-studded release, which included features from Tinashe, Blxst, T-Pain, and Ari Lennox. The guests on Don’t Forget To Breathe are nothing to sneeze at either. Buddy tapped BJ The Chicago Kid, Smino, Kent Jamz, and more.

Up until Don’t Forget To Breathe dropping, Buddy put out two promotional tracks. The first of the pair was “You 2 Thank,” which we had the chance to cover. Then, he put out the album’s biggest hit so far, which is “Like This.” It is a chill track that exudes themes of chasing your dreams and locking in to focus on yourself. Buddy is delivering very-well produced and performed cuts across the tight 12-song, 35-minute long tape.
