Brother Ali & UnJUST Drop Two More Promo Singles With “Worthy” & “Gauntlet” Featuring Roc Marciano

Brother Ali is one of the more intriguing prospects in the underground conscious rap scene. The longtime Wisconsin artist has an intricate pen game and understated delivery. He likes focusing more on the words rather than the cadence, which is highly commendable. Brother Ali is doing more of the same great stuff on two new singles, “Worthy” and “Gauntlet.”

Both of these Brother Ali tracks are produced by unJUST, as have the last three singles. All five are out to bring hype to the rapper’s forthcoming record Love & Service, his first in three years. The project is due on April 26 and to our knowledge, we know of one feature. That would be Roc Marciano, who actually features on “Gauntlet.” For those wondering where he dropped the former and “Worthy,” Brother Ali dropped the Roc collab on Apple Music only, and the solo track on Spotify.

In a way it is a two-pack, but not really. “Worthy” is the one that caught our immediate attention due to the incredible word play and rhymes. At the bottom there is just one sample of what Ali is bringing to the table. If you want to hear the rest of the great talent behind the mic, check out “Worthy” and “Gauntlet” on their respective platforms.

What are your thoughts on these brand-new singles, “Worthy” and “Gauntlet,” by Brother Ali, unJUST, and Roc Marciano? Which track is the better of the two and why? Does this get you excited for Brother Ali’s upcoming album Love & Service? What is your favorite element of the song? Who had the stronger performance on “Gauntlet?” Are any of these the best lead single for the record over the previous efforts? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Quotable Lyrics From “Worthy”:

I don’t chase the bag dagnabbit I’m in it
Not last-minute I been it ask my ancestors quit it
My kraft is authentically mastered it isn’t instant
You can’t sprinkle it out of a package and get to whisking
It’s seasoned by the seasons of marinade I drenched it
The care that I exhibit is the flavor that you’re sipping listen

Sematary Delivers 16-Song Mixtape “Bloody Angel”

If you are looking for a dose of instant energy go check out Sematary. His music is really different from most of the rappers even in his niche space. The California native has been successful with this artistic approach and making it all the more impressive, is that he is doing this independently. For 2024, Sematary is really looking to hammer home his unique star status with Bloody Angel.

This is his brand-new mixtape and follow-up to a 2023 five-song EP, King Of The Graveyard. Apparently, this was supposed to be some sort of sequel to that short collection of tracks, according to Genius. However, Sematary did not get favorable feedback on it, which led him to switching up how to proceed forward with Bloody Angel. Leading up to this mixtape’s release, the 23-year-old multi-talent put out a handful of singles for it.

Both dropped earlier this year, with “Wendigo” being the first up. Be sure to check out his latest effort featuring Hackle, Lil Flash, Buckshot, and more.

Buddy Brings Effortlessly Fun Tunes On “Don’t Forget To Breathe”

Buddy, a Compton, California rapper and singer, is someone we feel does not get enough praise. He has some underrated solo hits, as well as some fun features. He has been a steady veteran in the genre for about seven years now and has consistently dropped solid projects. The same can be said about Buddy this time around too with Don’t Forget To Breathe.

This is now the fourth LP from him and his first since 2022. In fact, it was nearly two years to the day that Buddy put out Superghetto. That was a star-studded release, which included features from Tinashe, Blxst, T-Pain, and Ari Lennox. The guests on Don’t Forget To Breathe are nothing to sneeze at either. Buddy tapped BJ The Chicago Kid, Smino, Kent Jamz, and more.

Up until Don’t Forget To Breathe dropping, Buddy put out two promotional tracks. The first of the pair was “You 2 Thank,” which we had the chance to cover. Then, he put out the album’s biggest hit so far, which is “Like This.” It is a chill track that exudes themes of chasing your dreams and locking in to focus on yourself. Buddy is delivering very-well produced and performed cuts across the tight 12-song, 35-minute long tape.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new album, Don’t Forget To Breathe, by Buddy? Is this the rapper’s best project of his career, why or why not? What songs are you gravitating toward and why? Rico Nasty Explores The Realms Of Dance With Boys Noize On New EP “HARDCORE DR3AMZ”

Rico Nasty is an underrated female MC in today’s hip-hop landscape. She likes to lean into the experimental side of the genre at times, but also has no problems going conventional either. Releasing music since 2016, the Maryland artist last put out a project in 2022 with Las Ruinas. She has been dropping some singles since that time, but her feature game is what continues to really impress as of late. Some of her standouts include “Ain’t No Way” from Denzel Curry’s Melt My Eyez See Your Future and “Pop” from BLUE LIPS. This past weekend, Rico Nasty made a small return with a new EP HARDCORE DR3AMZ.

For this three-song offering, Rico is working with an international friend of hers. Boys Noize, a German electronic and dance producer, has made tracks with her in the past called “Girl Crush” and “Money.” So, this marks the first time these two opposite talents have clashed for a project of any kind. We believe that this could be a route that Rico could do well in on a full listen.

The up-tempo production matches the wild energy of the “Smack A B****” MC to a tee. Up until HARDCORE DR3AMZ‘s release, the duo teased the project with one track being the opener “Arintintin.” She had a lot of fun making this laid-back EP, especially the closer “H.O.T.” Rico spoke with Hypebeast, saying, “Let the haters know something and give the lurkers a show! Making this was so refreshing and reminded me that everything doesn’t have to be so serious all the time.”

What are your thoughts on this brand-new EP, HARCORE DR3AMZ, by Rico Nasty and Boys Noize? Is this the rapper’s most experimental project of his career, why or why not? What songs are you gravitating toward and why? Which song are you choosing as the best from this EP? Roc Marciano, The Alchemist & Animoss Produce Incredible Results With “Marciology”

Roc Marciano has been a staple of underground hip-hop in New York for about 12 years now. You can always count on him for top-tier lyricism, intriguing production, and a mic presence that commands attention. For 2024, the Long Island native has a lot live up to from last year. He had two of the stronger releases with Nothing Bigger Than The Program and the deluxe of The Elephant Man’s Bones with The Alchemist. Well, we are happy to report that Roc Marciano is off to one hell of a start with Marciology.

The legendary rapper and producer teased the album last week with the lead single “Gold Crossbow.” It was easily one of the most chilling songs of the year and it had us excited for the full body of work. Marci also produced that track, which is the case for this entire album. However, he was not totally alone for this record.

The Alchemist makes a welcome return and Animoss is in the mix as well. At the end of the year, this should be in end of the year debates and Marciano feels the same way. He went on Instagram to thank everyone who had a hand in bringing Marciology to life. However, he had to let everyone else know who really runs the rap game. “Can’t thank you brothers enough ❤ let’s run it ⬆ because let’s face it this s*** stale without me #pimpire #artthatkills 🌋 🌋🌋🐐

Niko Brim Provides All Sorts Of Colorful Sounds To “HUES”

With New York’s rich roots in hip-hop, there are so many corners of the state that are jam packed with talent. Everyone seems to be on their own wavelength especially with subgenres of all kinds in the Northeastern state alone. Niko Brim is combining various soundscapes on his latest project HUES. A Mt. Vernon native, the underground multi-talent has been very quiet since his sophomore project A Thousand Pictures: Book Two.

That was a sequel to the project of the same Book One, but this latest offering deviates from that series entirely. This project is also being referred to as HUES VOL. 1, so it is possible this will be another new series. Niko Brim appropriately titled this project, as the beats are all unique shades of East Coast hip-hop. There’s boom-bap, a little bit of trap, as well as some soulful cuts thrown in for good measure.

Shakira Is Making A Statement With Her First LP In Seven Years With “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran”

Shakira is making some serious waves in the music world right now. If you have not been paying attention, the Barraquilla, Colombia pop megastar has just come back after a seven-year album hiatus. Sure, she was there with some deluxe/concert versions of past works such as Laundry Service and El Dorado. But with Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, Shakira has mostly all new material and a topical focus that is extremely personal to her.

In a recent interview with Apple Music, she was passionate about this album’s messages and themes. “In a way, it’s kind of good not to have a husband.” Well then Shakira! There have been some pieces written about how “Punteria,” one of the singles and the opener, is her fending off the inner voice telling her to fall back on a past relationship. That being with her now ex-husband Gerard Piqué, who Shakira has not minced words on since their split.

She went on to say how its reinvigorated her to get back to doing what she loves. “Now I feel like working. It’s a compulsive need of mine that I didn’t feel before, she said.” Overall, what Shakira really wants to convey to audiences that there is someone out there for everyone and you are not always going to find your person right away or even after a few relationships. “It doesn’t matter the s***ty experiences you go through in life; there’s always a lot more to look forward to.”

What are your thoughts on this brand-new album, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, by Shakira? Is this her best album of her career, why or why not? What songs are you gravitating toward right now? Jorja Smith Taps Three French Rappers For “GO GO GO” EP

Jorja Smith has one of the most stunning voices in all of soul/pop/R&B. The veteran from the UK has been delivering some dreamy tracks for about eight years now. She has given fans a lot of singles and loosies since her debut in 2018, Lost & Found. However, after a long five-year wait, she came through with her sophomore tape falling or flying. Fans began to got word of it being in the works after Jorja Smith dropped her first solo single since May 2023, “GO GO GO.”

The song was fun but also a middle finger to a man not wanting commitment. Pop rock in tone, it further showcased Jorja’s multi-faceted abilities. Since falling or flying, she delivered a performance for The Color Purple soundtrack. However, nothing has really dropped since. But do not fret, Jorja decided to revive the fan-favorite “GO GO GO” for a new EP of the same name.

In fact, “GO GO GO” is not the only song receiving some reworks. “Blue Lights” is also getting some love, as Jorja adds French rappers Josman and Dosseh to each one respectively. It is safe to say that she was inspired to do this based on Oboy’s inclusion for a remix of “Come Over” which originally had Popcaan on it. Oboy’s version is the third in the trio of French remakes. Be sure to check them out above.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new EP, GO GO GO, by Jorja Smith? Is this one of her best songs in the last year or so, why or why not? Who added the most to three tracks and why? SiR Presents Some Of Deepest Material On “HEAVY”

Inglewood, California’s own SiR has been wowing us over the past few months with two incredible singles. January’s “NO EVIL” was the Top Dawg entertainer’s first solo single in a year and a half and it floored us. Perhaps his most powerful performance of his career in terms of vocals, it was an homage to the legend D’Angelo. It is a song that still burns for us two months later. Then, he came back in February with “KARMA” featuring fellow labelmate Isaiah Rashad. It was about staring down their mistakes and dealing with the consequences to follow.

Both of these personal tracks certainly did an excellent job at promoting SiR’s long-awaited project HEAVY. This is the R&B veteran’s first record since 2019’s Chasing Summer which boasted hits like “Hair Down,” “John Redcorn,” and “You Can’t Save Me.” In a recent interview with That Good Sh*t, SiR talked about the meaning behind HEAVY. “What I’m talking about is the heaviest. Yeah I mean it’s the truth, on steroids,” he explains.

Listen To HEAVY By SiR

“People need to hear it I think. As much as it might hurt or as much as it might take you somewhere you don’t want to be, it’s what you need,” SiR adds. You are going to get a HEAVY dosage of those messages across the record, and they are rewarding experiences. The production is rich, lush, beautiful and hard-hitting. SiR is bringing dynamic performances as well and so far we are enjoying tracks like “I’M NOT PERFECT,” “SIX WHOLE DAYS,” and “YOU.”

What are your thoughts on this brand-new album, HEAVY, by SiR? Is this his best project to date, why or why not? What songs are you gravitating toward and why? Montell Fish’s Alter Ego DJ Gummy Bear Delivers Meditative Cuts On “Intercession Before Charlotte”

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania genre-bending artist Montell Fish received our first coverage last week for his single with dj gummy bear “Irrational.” However, the latter is not another artist. In fact, it is an alter ego, if you will. The single was to promote Montell Fish’s/gummy’s EP Intercession Before Charlotte. Well, today the “duo” is here to deliver that project and it features six tracks with zero features. Essentially, think of gummy bear as a producer and Montell is the performer.

After listening to the tape, this may be the most relaxing thing we have heard this year. The production takes center stage with elements of lo-fi and alternative. Montell’s lyrics are little bit of an afterthought, but not in a bad way. It just seems that this was clearly more of a dj gummy bear project compared to a Fish album.

Listen To Intercession Before Charlotte By Montell Fish & DJ Gummy Bear

Additionally, this will not be the last we hear from Montell. At some point, he will be dropping the follow-up Charlotte, which is going to be an LP. The meaning for this EP, according to a Hypebeast interview, was for dj gummy bear to keep Montell away from the distractions of fame. That will be talked about on Charlotte. He explains it further in the chat with the publication, but the other meaning behind Intercession is a distraction from the LP itself, meaning he needs more time to get it done.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new EP, Intercession Before Charlotte, by Montell Fish and dj gummy bear? Is this his best project to date, why or why not? What songs are you gravitating toward and why? Are you excited for their upcoming album? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section.
