DDG Will Do Anything To Protect Halo On “Sh**t Up Your Block”

Over the past couple of months, Michigan multi-hyphenate DDG has put out two singles. Unfortunately, they have not been very memorable in our opinion. His voice seems to be the biggest issue we have with sound. For some reason, it is hard to tell when you hear a song from him. The beats have also been fairly run-of-the-mill. However, DDG is riding a bit of a different wave on “Sh**t Up Your Block.”

The reason we say that is because Cash Cobain produced this cut. If you are not familiar with his style, it is very woozy, low-key, and hazy. He also likes to rely more heavily on bass and less drums. That is the case with “Sh**t Up Your Block.”

Also drawing us into this record are DDG’s lyrics. It is clear that he is dedicating this song to his newborn son Halo. The writing is a little suspect, saying he will “spin,” even though he is “not affiliated with gangs.” Of course, the rapper and his boo, Halle Bailey, welcomed their child at the start of 2024. There was tons of speculation on whether or not she was pregnant. This song also comes at the perfect time, as Halo was born two months ago yesterday.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “Sh**t Up Your Block,” by DDG? Is this one of his strongest tracks lately, why or why not? What is your favorite element of the song and why? Do you think he has an album on the way? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Quotable Lyrics:

I can’t be childish, b***, I got a kid
Told her we can link but just not at my crib
My son custom down to the chain, to the f****n’ bib
I’m not affiliated with gangs, but for him I’ll spin
Shoot up yo’ block, shoot up yo’ block, shoot up yo’ block (Ooh), shoot up yo’ block
When it come to my son and my fam, you get popped

Russ Helps Preview DJ Premier’s Upcoming Record With “Work This Out”

Russ and DJ Premier are legends in their own right. While people might be a bit more hesitant to give that title up to Russ, he has certainly worked his tail off, independently we might add. The New Jersey rapper has released so many singles and projects without too much extra help, making his resume all that more impressive. Today he is back with a new single with the legendary Houston, Texas producer.

Over the last couple of years this duo has put out a small handful of tracks together. That may be a little bit stunning to some, but they really do complement each other’s respective styles. Their works include 2020’s “Inside Job” and 2022’s “Free.” Russ and Premier are building out their synergy further with “Work This Out.”

It is a relationship cut that we have seen Russ do before, about wanting to fix things. This is an exciting time for Premier because this track is teasing his next album. There is not much information on it, but this could be the second taster from the record. We did get “In Moe (Speculation)” with Common in November, so we could have a compilation-like LP with guest rappers.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “Work This Out,” by Russ and DJ Premier? Is the duo’s strongest track together so far, why or why not? What is your favorite element of the song and why? Does this get you excited for the producer’s upcoming album? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Russ and DJ Premier. Finally, stay with us for the most informative song posts throughout the week.

Girl, I know, I know, I know (Girl, I know)

NBA YoungBoy & Herm Bring A Catchy Melody To “My Bobo”

NBA YoungBoy sort of pulled a 180 on us a little bit with the release of his new album Compliments of Grave Digger Mountain. Usually when he drops a project it is super long. On average, you can expect at least 18-20 tracks. Sometimes, that number can hit 30 plus. However, YB decided to trim the runtime down with just 13 tracks. The last time he hit that number was in 2022 with the release of 3800 Degrees. Also surprising is that none of the songs that were dropped on YouTube made it to this project.

Apparently, NBA YoungBoy has another album coming (no surprise there). So, maybe those songs will a home in the near future. Currently, Compliments of Grave Digger Mountain is available on Spotify and Soundcloud, but not Apple Music or YouTube. Our condolences go out to those users. But, we are here to talk about “My Bobo,” a collaboration with Herm.

We feel it is one of the stronger cuts, thanks in part to Herm and YB’s chemistry. Also, this song has a solid melody, especially coming from the keys and the lead’s vocals. A “Bobo” is a person that loves materialism and affluence and it after hearing that definition, it makes the lyrics a little more confusing actually. It seems the track is more so about violence than wealth. Either way, it is one of the stronger bangers on the record.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new song, “My Bobo,” by NBA YoungBoy and Herm? Is this one of his strongest tracks of from Compliments of Grave Digger Mountain, why or why not? What is your favorite element of the song and why? Who had the stronger performance and why? What other tracks are you gravitating toward? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Kenny Mason Gears Up For New Album With Two Singles “Jumpin In” & “Us”

2023 was undoubtedly a busy year for Kenny Mason. The Atlanta-born performer unveiled his EP 6 back in March, kicking off the rollout with a vampire-inspired single, “Dracula.” From there, he unveiled various episodes of a documentary-style series called Pup Files on YouTube. The project followed him around as he toured, did interviews, hit the studio, and more.

Mason finished off the year with a 3-pack dubbed Highway 9, which included tracks “Off The Rip,” “Pulp Fiction,” and “Facts.” Following the release, he unveiled an accompanying music video and extended version of “Facts.” Now, the hitmaker is preparing to drop yet another full-length project, 9.

Kenny Mason’s 9 Drops On March 14

The album is scheduled to arrive on March 14, 2024. To give fans a taste of what’s to come, the 29-year-old has shared two new singles, “Jumpin In” and “Us.” The first track arrives alongside a mellow accompanying visual, which sees Mason spit melancholy lyrics into a payphone. The laid-back track features bars about diving headfirst into one’s endeavors, grounded by a relaxed beat and soulful sample.

“Jumpin In” starkly contrasts with Mason’s other latest offering, “Us,” in which the musician makes full use of his vocal abilities. In “Us,” listeners hear Mason reflect on coming up in “a cold world,” and feeling as though he’s starting to become a part of it. So far, fans are loving his latest release, and can’t wait to hear more.

Bruiser Wolf Turns His On The Radar Freestyle Into New Single “Brick Up”

Danny Brown is one of the most unique rappers around so it’s no surprise that the crew he rolls with is full of just as interesting artists. His Bruiser Brigade group has a few underrated fan favorites, though few are as beloved as Bruiser Wolf. The rapper first debuted back in 2021 with his album Dope Game Stupid. The project emerged as a fan favorite quickly though it took Wolf a full three years to follow-it up. Last month, he released his highly anticipated second album My Story Got Stories. The project led off with the wild song “2 Bad” which features standout performances from Danny Brown and Zeelooperz.

Now, Wolf is following up his new album much quicker, though just with a new single. Earlier this week he unleased the new single “Brick Up.” The song is a bouncy display of his unique lyrical style and unmistakable vocal delivery. It’s actually adapted from his On The Radar Freestyle which dropped a few weeks ago. The video of his freestyle had already racked up more than 7k views before the song dropped as a single. Listen to “Brick Up” below.

Bruiser Wolf’s Wordy New Single

Last year, Bruiser Wolf appeared on one of the most acclaimed rap albums of the year. Danny Brown dropped his new record Quaranta just a few months after the release of his JPEGMAFIA collab album Scaring The Hoes.

Bruiser Wolf teamed up with Danny on the fittingly narrative song “Y.B.P.” A few weeks after the release of the album the song got its own music video. The visuals were just as unique as the song showing off a stop-motion bank heist complete with animated versions of Wolf and Danny. What do you think of Bruiser Wolf’s new song? Do you hope he drops more material soon? Let us know in the comment section below.

Asher Roth Enlists Homeboy Sandman, Heather Grey & lojii For New Single “Heaven”: Stream

Former “frat rapper” Asher Roth has grown a lot since his “I Love College” days, and if you’re just finding that out, you’re in luck. Moreover, he recently came through with an impressive set of flows on the Heather Grey-produced “Heaven,” which is a chill, soft key-led boom-bap beat that harkens back to cold and intimate East Coast nights in city streets. Not only that, but the Philadelphia native also enlisted similarly skilled lyricists in Homeboy Sandman and lojii, who come through with mindful and measured flows and lyrical acrobatics. This follows Roth’s previous work, such as the single “Dimma (Last Chance U).”

However, it’s very much a culture shock for folks who haven’t heard of Asher Roth in a long time, but it’s still time for this part of the narrative to become less crucial to the discussion of cuts like “Heaven.” Lyrically, this cut covers a lot of everyday struggles, slow but steady career-building, and trying to find one’s way to “heaven” despite the obstacles in one’s way. In addition, there are a lot of creative sample chops and variations throughout the beat that keep its freshness and engagement pretty afloat. Sure, it’s not a revolutionary sound or focus, but it’s done with the same sincerity and chilled demeanor that made cuts like “All Add Up” or on H.S.’ “$.”
