He was formerly recognized as a pure rapper, but he wanted to explore his options elsewhere. It paid dividends for him as mgk’s new style has spawned a handful of successful records like Tickets To My Downfall. However, with this new single “dont let me go,” he is rapping atop a piano-laced instrumental.

This emotional backdrop sets the tone early for the personal content of the song. “dont let me go” is also mgk’s first single of the year. Rap never seems to run out of tremendous rhymers and writers. Rappers like Saba, Mick Jenkins, and IDK all need to be in the conversation of some of the best in the modern-day landscape. All three have very underrated careers due to their middling exposure to hip-hop fans. But calling them that does not feel right because of how talented they all are. To flex their skills, Saba and the gang dropped some sick verses for their edition of the “Red Bull Spiral Freestyle.”

The energy drink company started this freestyle series about one year ago. If you have not been keeping track, Red Bull is now up to their eleventh installment. The cool thing about these cyphers is that it is all done in one take and every rapper has to navigate the same instrumental. However, that is no problem for Saba, Mick, and IDK.

All three rap with high energy and bravado, while also spitting some introspective bars as well. Ray Vaughn & Pusha T Deliver Fantastic Performances On “Problems”

TDE is looking like they are going to be the most successful rap label in 2024. They have a massive lineup of artists that have albums coming for the remaining 10 months. Their list that made its way to social media had fans buzzing when the names were revealed. One of the many talents that was slated to drop an album was Ray Vaughn. He signed to TDE right near the beginning of the 2020 decade and is finally getting ready to drop his debut. To tease it, Ray Vaughn is teaming up with Pusha T for “Problems.”

If you follow Ray’s career, you would know that he has been releasing tracks since 2018. So, this year is a big one for him after all these years not dropping an album. Expectations are a little murky due to him waiting all this time. However, after hearing Ray Vaughn with Pusha T on “Problems,” there is a good chance this album will be a success.

Both lyricists deliver some great rhymes over the minimal production. Ray raps, “Cocaine sticking to your gums like tables / If you don’t like this s*** then you can leaf like basil / His back got batteries, we jump ’em like cables / The Feds on scope so fiends pulling off the labels.” This also marks the first solo track from the Long Beach, California native since last January when he worked with fellow labelmate Ab-Soul on “Sandcastles.”

It’s been a busy few months for Ottawa rapper TwoTiime. The Canadian star has kept his foot on the gas since announcing his deal with Polo G’s ODA in collaboration with Columbia Records. With the major label backing, he’s on pace to make some serious noise in 2024. He came out swinging with the release of “Priceless,” followed it up with the Jackson 5-sampling “One More Chance,” and capped off the year by opening up for Polo G at his sold-out concert in Montreal, Canada.

TwoTiime isn’t slowing down, either. Now that he’s entered a new year, the Canadian rapper came back to set the tone for Valentine’s Day with the release of “4U.” It’s another step in the right direction for the young rapper, who has continued to showcase his evolution with each release. “4U” is a slower effort, one that allows his melodic prowess to take new directions, leaning into more experimental, spacier turf, over a subdued vocal sample. Sure, he’s a rapper but it’s songs like “4U” that shine a spotlight on his potential to expand his sonic palette.

TwoTiime Shines On New Single

As TwoTiime continues to pick up momentum, there’s no doubt that it’s helping put some eyes on his city. Ultimately, that’s what the rapper’s aiming for, as he told HotNewHipHop last year. “Where I come from, this type of thing doesn’t happen. I’m not doing this for myself or my circle at this point. I’m doing this for my whole community,” TwoTiime said. “I want them to know anything is possible if you have a dream, hard work, and dedication.”

Since singles like “Hood Cry” made a mark, TwoTiime has remained focused. G-Eazy Raps Over Saweetie’s “Tap In” With “All I Wanna Do”

G-Eazy has been a controversial rapper for most of his career it seems. Some think he may be in the wrong profession, just ask Anthony Fantano. However, over the past decade or so, the Oakland, California veteran has delivered a fair number of bangers. 2014-2015 were some of his peak years with songs like “Me, Myself & I” with Bebe Rexha, “I Mean It” with Remo, “Random,” and “Calm Down,” are fan favorites to this day. However, G-Eazy is looking to round back into that form with “All I Wanna Do.”

Since the release of his last LP, These Things Happen Too, back in 2021, G-Eazy has been releasing a nice chunk of singles and features. He ended 2023 off with “Girls Gone Wild” with Mike G and Offset. That track got numerous versions such as sped up, slowed with reverb, and instrumental only. To start his 2024, “All I Wanna Do” is here to get things going.

He raps over an interpolation of Saweetie’s hit song “Tap In.” G-Eazy even shouts her out rapping, “Uh, (Yeah) tap, tap, tap in / Saweetie just dropped that pin.” That is not the only person he references to, though. Travis Scott, Tom Brady, and Travis Kelce and Young Thug get their flowers as well in the bars below. The Chiefs tight end can actually be heard at the beginning saying, “You gotta fight for your right, to party.” Finally, there is a callback to Drake and DJ Khaled’s “For Free.” “I go on and on / Can’t understand how I last so long.” Outside of all the references, Eazy sounds good on the track and it has fans pumped for what is to come.

03 Greedo has been on a prolific run to start 2024. He has always been an extremely productive artist. But the Watts, California native is especially not messing around as of late. Now, 03 Greedo is back with a new single “Still In Shocc.”

This track is almost a freestyle of sorts with the multi-talent going right into his lone, lengthy verse. It spans about two minutes in length and sees him rap with fiery passion. “I’m back and I’m still strapped, loaded in the backseat / Seatbelt click like the blick when we clap heat Escalade seat, warmest, b*****s just a button Choppa turn his fake a** steppas to some athletes.”

ScHoolboy Q At Peace On “Cooties” & “Love Birds” With Devin Malik & Lance Skiiiwalker

It hard to believe we only have 10 more days until ScHoolboy Q drops what looks to be an album of the year contender, BLUE LIPS. If you have not been paying attention, the rollout for this album has been nothing short of incredible. From the album artwork to the trailers, the merchandise, and of course, the music, he really has fans on the edge of their seats. Now, ScHoolboy Q is back with another two pack of “Cooties” and “Love Birds.”

These are now the fourth and fifth songs to be released ahead of the LP. Now, for three consecutive weeks, ScHoolBoy has impressed us with the material. “Blueslides” and “Back n Love” were different sonically but offered a lot of great writing and production. Then, last week, “Yeern 101” took us back to the Oxymoron days where he was dropping head-knocking trap bangers. His blistering flows complemented the up-tempo beat from Cardo to a tee.

This leads us to “Cooties” and “Love Birds.” Both are more vibey and have more of an interlude-like feeling to them. The structures of both songs are mainly a verse and a short chorus on the first of the two. “Cooties” is exclusively handled by Q both rapping and producing wise. He seems at peace on this one. The Cali artist talks about how his kids are finding meaningful interests and how much he has succeeded after removing himself from the people who were bad for him. On “Love Birds,” Q takes a back seat to the singing talents of frequent collaborator Lance Skiiiwalker, while Devin Malik once again takes the reigns on the beat. This one is more about the challenges in relationships with women.

Kodak Black Drops Some Crazy Bars On “Shampoo”

Kodak Black can either go really dark and serious or just plain goofy on a track at any given moment. One of his most iconic performances has to be on A Boogie Wit da Hoodie’s smash hit “Drowning” back in 2017. Who could really forget when the Florida rapper said, “I’m the s*** I’m fartin’, I don’t know how to potty /

Well, he might have another signature moment on his latest single “Shampoo.” This Kodak track is quite the contrast in tone and sound compared to his previous single “11am In Malibu.” It saw him rap over Drake’s “8am in Charlotte” beat from For All The Dogs and diss Boosie Badazz. It was one of his best outings and it shows that Kodak is more than a mumble rapper to those who are in that camp.

However, “Shampoo” just is not it. Unless you are into the funny bars on this thing, then have at it. NBA YoungBoy’s Relentless Single Run Continues With “No Time”

If you think NBA YoungBoy is going to slow down production any time soon, you would be sorely mistaken. The Baton Rouge, Louisiana rapper and singer seems to always have something on deck each week. Over the last three months the prolific artist has put out nine singles. But, it has been these last two weeks or so that we have seen him at his most eager.

In just the last week and change, NBA YoungBoy has put out two singles. While the tracks all feature similar lyrical content the production is at least slightly varied. “Closed Case” and “F*** N****s” sees him rap in his loud and yelping tone about violence. However, this latest one, “No Time,” takes a “softer” approach in NBA’s standards.

“No Time” has a familiar but nice message in the verses. It is all about protecting yourself from others who do not deserve your time. That is the most valuable thing everyone has, tangible or not, so YB is doing what he can to have as much as possible. Every track has over 1.4 million views and “No Time” is well on its way to eclipse one million.
