ScHoolboy Q & Rico Nasty Go Ballistic On “Pop”

One of the trademark formulas that ScHoolboy Q has pretty much perfected up until this point is delivery gritty bangers. Just listen to tracks like “Gangsta” and “The Purge,” for example and you will see what we mean. BLUE LIPS has some variations of that style as well across the record. “Pop,” with its heavy percussion and nasty guitar riffs, are perfect complements to ScHoolboy Q and Rico Nasty’s aggressive lyrics and cadence.

When it comes to a majority of rap albums, you are almost always looking for a strong opener to reel you in. In essence, it sets up the rest of the listening experience. “Pop” passes with flying colors in that department, as Q and Rico have great chemistry on this cut. It in its simplest form, this song is all about violence and sending warning shots to anyone trying to step up to you.

While Rico does deliver a zany performance, her verse would have been even better if it was a tad longer. “I ain’t poppin’ my s***, I keep a spear / I’m fresh as a mint, I’m hard as cement / You can’t leave a dent, demolish him, finish him.” It has so much potential based on these opening lines, but for the amount of time she had, she did make the most of it. ScHoolboy Q recently ranked this as his best album in a series of tweets, and we might have to agree with him, even if it is too early to say.

Pharrell Williams & Miley Cyrus Team Up For “Doctor (Work It Out)”

While we’re only a few months into 2024, it’s already been a wildly successful year for Miley Cyrus. The multi-hyphenate secured her first two Grammy Awards last month for her hit song “Flowers,” which was honored as Record of the Year as well as Best Pop Solo Performance of 2023. Her LP Endless Summer Vacation was also nominated for various awards.

Now, the performer is back with yet another pop anthem, this time in collaboration with hip-hop and R&B mainstay Pharrell Williams. The duo dropped off their new single “Doctor (Work It Out)” late last week, and it’s already received a tremendous amount of praise from fans.

Miley Cyrus & Pharrell Revive Bangerz Era Track

At the time of writing, the song is in the top 10 of the U.S. iTunes chart. It’s also trending on YouTube, Spotify and more. It features powerful vocals and fun adlibs from Miley, and groovy, upbeat production from Pharrell. While Pharrell doesn’t contribute to the track vocally, fans can agree that his touch is woven throughout, and embodies his signature sound. The release is also accompanied by a playful accompanying music video, which sees Miley channel her inner Tina Turner, dancing along to the catchy single.

Fans first got a glimpse at the unedited version of “Doctor (Work It Out)” back in 2017. It was originally written amid Miley’s Bangerz era, and though various other Pharrell-produced tracks made the cut, got set aside. Today, Tago makes his website premiere with a new single called “D.A.M.N.” Tago hails from Dallas, Texas and his style is so colorful.

That is apparent from the track, but also its creatively shot music video. Tago brings a smooth and confident tone to the song. Which makes sense considering what the main message is for this cut. According to AllHipHop, “D.A.M.N.” is an acronym that stands for “Determined and Motivated N****.”

This is a braggadocious track about being at the top of the rap game and being the example of greatness everyone else needs to meet. Stove God Cooks Is Stirring Up Some Heat On “Carbone” With Stoupe

A few weeks ago we were thoroughly impressed with Stove God Cooks’ single, “Melo Chip and a Brick.” The Babygrande affiliate rapped with conviction over a killer Conductor Williams with blaring horns. Our opinions on the track have been validated since then, as the track has crawled its way into the Syrcause spitter’s top five most popular songs on Spotify. Now, Stove God Cooks is back to feed us once again with a record called “Carbone.”

The producer tag teaming this effort with him this time is Stoupe. He too is from the Midwest, being a resident of Pennsylvania. The underground beat maker brings an instrumental that is a little more easy-going than “Melo Chip and a Brick.” However, it still sounds great in its simplicity.

“Carbone” sees Stove God Cooks absolutely cheffing up a hot dish of confidence with a side of swagger. “They say they gettin’ money but they don’t look like I do (Don’t look like I do) / Ooh, I do (Woo), have ’em wrappin’ your head like Badu (Brr).” His flows on this track are excellent drawing out his “o’s” on the chorus while annunciating every word on the verse. ScHoolboy Q & Ab-Soul Have A Fan-Favorite With “Foux”

ScHoolboy Q has finally given us BLUE LIPS and we are very pleased to say that it has delivered and then some. The California rapper almost always seems to be at his peak when he experiments with instrumentals, cadences, lyrics, and flows. Q does that throughout the duration of the LP and you can definitely tell five years were needed to craft this body of work. While it may not be for everyone, there is no doubt that this project was worth the wait. One highlight we had to cover is ScHoolboy Q and Ab-Soul’s “Foux.”

This one of the more introspective cuts here, as it sees each TDE talent dealing with internal struggles. Q’s hook is infectious but also quite gloomy. He quickly raps over the scattering drum patterns, howling background vocals, and somber piano keys. Incredibly, outside of some Black Hippy cuts, this the first time we have heard Q and Ab-Soul on a song together since 2012 with “Druggys Wit H**s Again.”

His smooth yet raspy, low-key flow is on full display and he sounds confident as always. “Bad B****” is Luh Tyler’s first track by himself this year, but he plenty of collabs under his belt already.

On top of the guest spots, Luh Tyler is also going to be participating in one of the biggest music festivals of the year. Fans will be able to see him perform at Rolling Loud in Inglewood, California. He will be rocking the stage on its inaugural day, Friday March 15.

21 Lil Harold & BigXthaPlug have been two of the most entertaining up-and-comers as of late. Both borrow from their respective corners of Southern hip-hop. Lil Harold grew up in Atlanta and is a longtime friend of 21 Savage. Which makes sense, considering their stage names are the same and he utilizes the “P***y” adlib quite often with a slightly different delivery. As for BigX, he hails from Dallas, Texas. The 25-year-old possesses one of the best mic presences in modern-day rap with his deep and husky cadence.

Both also have their fair share of bangers and big-time collaborations. Lil Harold had some background vocals on Savage’s third studio album, american dream, earlier this year. You can find him on “dangerous” and “letter to my brudda.” He also had a fantastic single with JID not too long ago. Furthermore, he will be joining Savage, JID, and Nardo Wick for The American Dream Tour that kicks off in May. BigX had a big 2023 with the release of two projects, THE BIGGEST and AMAR. Those saw him work alongside Offset, Sauce Walka, Finesse2tymes and more.

However, there is another kid on the block that is starting to earn his stripes similar to these two. That artist goes by DaeMoney and like Veeze, he also hails from the blue-collar city of Detroit. Today, he makes his debut on the site and what better way than to do it by collaborating with the aforementioned stars. Additionally, DaeMoney’s “JAPANESE DENIM” lands on his new album.

This is not the first time that Dae and Veeze have worked together. You can also check out tracks such as “Gta,” which also has LUCKI, “Who Is That?” and “Fingers Crossed.” DaeMoney’s “JAPANESE DENIM” is a whimsical and hazy cut that sees each rapper flexing.
