Gunna Aims For The Neck On New Single “Whatsapp (Wassam)”

Gunna caught the stray of all strays on Kendrick Lamar’s “Euphoria” diss. The Compton rapper used Gunna as an example of a snitch, which is a label Gunna has been trying to separate himself from since the YSL trial got underway. The best way to make listeners forget about past indiscretions, though, is to put out good music. That’s exactly what Gunna does with his new single “Whatsapp (Wassam).” The song is a teaser for the rapper’s upcoming album, and it makes good on the hype.

Gunna previewed “Whatsapp (Wassam) on April 21, 2024. There wasn’t an official title, so fans took to calling the snippet “Push Back.” It makes sense, given the repeated use of the phrase in the chorus. “Sh*t changed but it still get pushed back (Push back),” Gunna raps. “I drop, make these little n**gas push back (Push).” The bars are standard Gunna fare, with talk of belittling other rappers and flossing how much more he makes than his competition. He makes it clear that he doesn’t like wasting time on “chit chat” if the topic isn’t money. “But f*ck that, look at my accomplishments,” he urges the listener. “Let’s check out my style, astonishin.”

Gunna Sounds Quietly Menacing On His Album Teaser

Turbo laces “Whatsapp (Wassam)” with a tight, hard-knocking instrumental. It’s not groundbreaking by any means, and the underlying melody sounds a bit like Drake’s “Way 2 Sexy,” but it still knocks. Turbo and Gunna go way back, as the former served as an executive producer on Gunna’s breakout project, Drip or Drown 2. He’s also produced some of the rapper’s best songs, including “Drip Too Hard” and “Wunna.” The two artists keep their winning streak intact here.

What are your thoughts on this new single, “Whatsapp (Wassam)” by Gunna? Does this track get you excited for his upcoming album, One of Wun? Do you think Gunna will be able to shake off the “snitch” allegations? Will a good album be enough to restore his reputation? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Gunna. Drake and Kendrick Lamar are currently in the midst of a bitter feud that is not getting any prettier. After the release of Kendrick’s “Euphoria,” it seems clear that Drake will be dropping some sort of response. However, fans are a bit concerned as to what is going to happen in this response. If Drizzy decides to press the red button, this could get very ugly. Overall, the feud has fans looking back fondly at when Drake and Kendrick used to be friends. For instance, over 10 years ago, they were collaborating with one another on their projects.

A great example of this is on the album Take Care, which is considered a classic by many. On the song “Buried Alive Interlude,” we get a full two-minute and thirty-second track that sees Kendrick Lamar spitting a spirited verse. Drake is not on the song, although he is there in spirit given the production of the track. Throughout the song, Kendrick delivers bars about his rise to success and everything that comes with it. Considering where Lamar was at in his career at this point, it makes for an interesting listen.

The Game Criticizes J Cole For “Watering Down” Rap Battles

J Cole cannot catch a break. He was roasted by the rap community after he decided to apologize to Kendrick Lamar and take his diss track off streaming platforms. He was clowned by Kanye West on the “Like That” remix despite no longer being involved in the battle. Now, another Compton icon, The Game, has decided to take shots at Jermaine Cole on social media. The Game responded to a comment from Officially Ice by blaming the current state of rap battles on Cole. He really didn’t hold back.

Officially Ice is a panelist on the Joe Budden Podcast, which means he’s entrenched in the battle going on between Drake and Kendrick Lamar. He also remembers what it was like when The Game was going to war with the likes of 50 Cent and G-Unit. He remembers when Game was dropping classic diss songs like “300 Bars N Runnin” in the mid-2000s. “I want one of these rap n**gas to diss Game,” Ice tweeted. “Just so y’all can what a proper diss record looks like.” The Game responded to the post by saying his approach to battles is outdated because it doesn’t follow rules.

The Game Thinks Cole Hurt The Genre By Apologizing

“My level of disrespect has no limit and I can actually rap rap,” Game wrote back. “Fans gone choose up with whatever artist is currently safe for the culture to love as a whole.” The Compton hitmaker went on to denigrate the way things have changed in the last two decades, before turning his attention to J. Cole. “Hip hop/Rap or whatever y’all calling it these days was already watered down,” he asserted. “Then Cole apologized and turned this sh*t to Kool-Aid wit no sugar.” This is actually the first time that The Game has spoken on the J. Cole apology. Given the rapper’s combative history, though, it’s not a surprise to learn he hated it.

The Game may be from the same city as Kendrick Lamar, but the rapper has collaborated with both Dot and Drake in the past. Drake even threw subliminal disses at Lamar when he appeared on the rapper’s 2015 single “100.” The Game posted a Drake quote on Instagram shortly after the battle started, which led many fans to theorize that he was choosing the 6 God’s side. He’s since clarified that he’s a fan of Lamar, and thinks he’s an “incredible” rapper. None of this reverence, however, applies to J. Cole.

YNW Melly Turns 25: Remembering How Special The “Suicidal Remix” With Juice WRLD Was

YNW Melly remains in a revolving door with the court system over the murder charges he is facing for allegedly k*lling his crewmates Sakchaser and Juvy. A lot of rappers have been showing support for the Gifford, Florida native such as Boosie Badazz and Fredo Bang. But like the Louisiana rapper once said about his case, “When they want you, they want you.” The latest development surrounding this never-ending saga is that prosecutors are trying to incorporate a documentary around the rapper’s rise to fame into the evidence pile. Unfortunately, to a lesser extent, YNW Melly will be celebrating another birthday in handcuffs.

Even though his image may not be at its best right now, we did want to celebrate the rapper and singer’s 25th birthday with a throwback post. One of his favorites of ours has to be the “Suicidal Remix” with Juice WRLD. The four-year-old track sees Melly at his best, which is him being in his melodic bag. This is just the second collaboration we have ever heard between him and the late great emo MC.

For us, this gives the song so much more weight and according to Genius, it was just the third posthumous collab for Juice. With the content of the song being about toxic relationships, getting him on a remix was a great idea on Melly’s part. If you want to help wish him a happy birthday, revisit the classic emo rap ballad above.

What are your thoughts on “Suicidal Remix” by YNW Melly and Juice WRLD? Is this the better version of this love cut, why or why not? Where does this rank amongst the rest of Melly’s hit songs? Madlib & Your Old Droog Preview Their Upcoming LP With “REEKYOD” Featuring Black Thought

Madlib and Your Old Droog continue to build and strengthen their work relationship with another new single “REEKYOD.” This is now the second offering we have received from this acclaimed duo in the last few weeks. “DBZ” was their last effort and that lyrical powerhouse of a track included extra bars from Denzel Curry and Method Man. On that single, Denzel was making some noise on it by apparently dissing Kendrick Lamar. “‘Cause using big words don’t make you lyrical / And going backwards in a swimmin’ pool don’t make you spiritual.” While “REEKYOD” does not have any subliminal shots, it does have gritty production and adept lyrics from Droog and Black Thought.

According to Stereogum, Madlib and Droog are gearing up to drop a collaboration album in the near future. For the decorated producer, it will be his third project of the year, following up YHWH is LOVE and Liberation 2. For the Brooklynite, it will be his first record in about a year and a half since YOD Presents: The Shining. According to The Source, Droog shared how thrilled he was to be a part of this song, as well as the project on the way.
