Saweetie’s rap career hasn’t quite taken off in the same way as others like Ice Spice and Latto, but still, the California native remains one to watch as she embarks on this next chapter. Besides teasing new music, the “Best Friend” hitmaker is also making it known that she’s back on the market following a seven-month relationship with YG. The West Coast duo mostly kept quiet for the duration of their time together, though we did see them outside in coordinating outfits on more than one occasion.

Earlier this week, sources close to them alleged that Saweetie and her ex are going their separate ways. Both reportedly feel friendship is the right choice for them as they continue to focus on their respective work obligations. Interstingly, internet sleuths caught YG in the comments of his former lover, Kehlani’s recent gym photo, immediately starting rumours of his desire to spin the block with her. However, he’s responding to the gossip and clarifying that his “SHOT O’CLOCK” collaborator is the only woman with his attention.

In the video above, some feel that Saweetie looks uncomfortable while her former lover wraps his arm around her chest. “The only block I’m tryna spin,” YG captioned the awkward clip. Once @theshaderoom reposted it, the replies quickly flooded with concerned fans checking in on the fashionista. “Kehlani must’ve left him on read,” one person wrote on Tuesday (January 16).

YG Comments On Kehlani’s Instagram Post Following Saweetie Breakup

Earlier this week reports first emerged that YG and Saweetie had broken up. The pair had been dating for 7 months and details on the situation are still a bit murky. A statement made explaining the situation saw both rappers claiming that they were mutually parting ways. It included statements about how they thought they’d work better as friends and both wanted to focus on their careers. But one particular part of the statement was getting new attention from fans today.

Part of the statement that reps for both artists shared included a part about how they aren’t focusing on finding new partners. That claim was back in the limelight after YG showed up in the comment section of one of Kehlani’s Instagram posts earlier today. The picture she posted is a mirror shot in some kind of gym and the “FDT” rapper used it as an opportunity to shoot his shot in the comments. In the comments, fans took some shots at the rapper for his reply. “Kehlani got a whole girlfriend, YG giving thirsty vibes now,” one of the top comments on the post reads.

Just a few days ago, YG was featured on a newly released single. He teamed up with Stunna Girl for the song “Stand Up.” The track saw the pair jumping on a hard-hitting beat and delivering some sexually charged bars. They’ve both been known to do just that pretty well in the past so the results felt like a perfect match.

2024 is shaping up to be a devastating year for hip-hop power couples. Cardi B and Offset, who had been staples of red-carpet events and the picture of a wholesome rap family, called it quits ahead of the new year (although that didn’t stop them from backsliding on New Year’s Eve). Now, a lower-profile but still popular couple, YG and Saweetie, has also apparently broken up, according to a report from The Shade Room.

According to the Instagram gossip account, a source close to the couple confirmed they made a mutual decision to split up, as both are busy with their careers and focused on making the most of them.

The two California rappers were rumored to be dating after Coachella last year, seemingly confirming the speculation during a cozy getaway in Cabo, Mexico a month later. In July, they announced a joint tour along with Tyga, which concluded in November with a hometown show at the Forum in Inglewood. The three rappers also collaborated on Saweetie’s July single “Birthday.”

Since then, YG and Tyga collaborated on their joint project, Hit Me When U Leave The Klub, while Saweetie most recently popped up on fellow Cali native Anderson .Paak’s Apple Music radio show .Paak House Radio to play a game of “Name That Tune.”

The relationship between YG and Saweetie is over. According to The Shade Room, Saweetie and YG calling off their romance was a mutual decision, and they believe they can remain good friends.

Additionally, the two are said to have been focused on advancing their careers and are extremely busy.

YG and Saweetie kept the rumor mill churning about a potential romance between the two. In May, the two were spotted in Cabo, coupled up, enjoying a baecation.

The Shade Room spotted the two in a pool, cuddling up and kissing. YG had a fitted-on hugging Saweetie from behind in one photo. Another catches him kissing the “Tap In” star on her neck.

Previously, the two were spotted at Coachella and caught eyes, sparking rumors about their status. Before that, YG hosted a birthday party, which Saweetie also attended.

YG & Saweetie Call It Quits After 7 Months Of Dating: Report

YG and Saweetie were one of hip-hop’s most low-key but beloved couples in recent memory, but it seems like they went their separate ways. Moreover, according to new reports from TMZ, representatives from both rappers spoke to The Shade Room about how they mutually decided to end their seven-month-ish relationship, as they think they would be better off as friends. Also, these reports suggest that neither is very interested in seeking another partner right now, and that they want to focus on their careers first and foremost. It’s a sad thing to hear about, but at least this all seems amicable and respectful, which is more than we can ask for in these wild times.

Furthermore, the West Coast MCs confirmed their romance around in May of 2023 following a month or so of rumors. Not only that, but this wasn’t really a surprise: YG and Saweetie have collaborated often– most recently on the former’s “BIRTHDAY” single– and they toured together with Tyga. As such, it was great to see these two work well together within and outside of their careers and personal lives. After all, they were pretty low-key about everything, which again, is more than we can ask for from most couples with a strong bond before their romantic union.

Meanwhile, the last we heard from them in the pop culture and gossip mill was their October performance at the University of Southern California. Since then, things cooled down significantly at least on our end, leading folks to speculate on just how long ago they split. It’s possible that their teams are just now allegedly relaying this to The Shade Room after days, weeks, or months of a relationship status update between YG and Saweetie. Perhaps we’ll just have to wait and see whether either Cali native speaks out about what they had, and what they might continue to manifest beyond a cuff.

When it comes to their careers, both artists actually have some songs to promote or tease these days. For the Icy Girl, that would be her previewed track “Richtivities,” whereas the Still Brazy spitter just dropped “Stand Up” with Stunna Girl. It was a meeting of West Coast legends on this week’s episode of Anderson .Paak‘s Apple Music 1 radio show, .Paak House Radio. Joining the “Come Down” hitmaker in the studio was Oakland rapper, Saweetie.

Dressed in their most funkadelic outfits, the two put their music knowledge to the test. In a game of Name That Tune, moderated by songwriter and producer Rogét Chahayed, the two acknowledged songs by Drake, DRAM, Travis Scott, and even Mozart, after only hearing seconds of audio from the songs.

The game proved to be one of high stakes, with both artists demonstrating impressive musical knowledge. But you’ll have to listen to the full episode to find out who won.

Elsewhere in the interview, Saweetie opened up about growing up in the church, where he grandparents were pastors.

“I was a church baby. Monday through Monday,” Saweetie said. “I mean, my parents was out, you know, and my grandparents would babysit me. So, I’d be at the church with them.”

She noted that she still makes offerings to her church, however, she opts to “cut checks” now that she’s living that icy girl life.

While many stars are spending the final days of 2023 in Aspen, Saweetie decided to beat the cold weather and show off her bodacious body in glamorous outfits. In one of her latest photo dumps, the California native’s curves were sparkling in a sequin-clad dress that kept all eyes on her.

“St. barth me plzzz 🙂🛥🥂🌊✨,” she wrote in the caption on Saturday (December 30). Interestingly, many Instagram users in the comments are comparing Saweetie to another recording artist with a surgically enhanced physique. “Why do [you] look like SZA in these pics?” one person asked. “I thought it was SZA for a split second,” another agreed.

Saweetie, Lil Baby, and 2 Chainz are slated to take over fans’ TV screens in 2024. The rappers will appear in the upcoming season 3 of 50 Cent’s BMF on Starz. 

‘BMF’ Welcomes 3 New Faces 

On Thursday, Dec. 14,  it was announced on Instagram that Saweetie, Lil Baby, and 2 Chainz will be making their acting debut on the highly acclaimed show BMF, created by none other than 50 Cent. 

This news has ignited fan anticipation and sparked mixed reactions on social media. As the newest season of BMF gears up for its premiere on March 1, 2024, viewers are eager to see how the three star rappers will impact the show’s credibility and ratings.

Fans on Twitter(X) have seemingly stated mixed reviews on the new additions to the show. One user (@aishofspades) commented: “ I can’t explain it, but putting more celebs is actually making it seem more low budget.” While another user (@20Kylies) commented, “They aint even try to change Lil Baby’s appearance.”

Saweetie’s music brings her more backlash than many other rap divas face, though the “Best Friend” hitmaker has more Grammy nominations than others who have been in the industry far longer than her. After her EP in late 2022 arrived to lacklustre first week sales, some have urged Saweetie to pursue other creative avenues where she feels more at home. Regardless of what critics have to say, she remains determined to put out a quality body of work – one that tells a story (or maybe even multiple) without depending on the virality of hits.

In a new interview with Elite Daily, the 30-year-old was open about the lengthy process going into her debut album, which she’s currently still crafting. “There’s a misconception about how quickly an album can be done. It’s taken me a long, long time, but it’s not as easy as some people make it seem,” she told the publication. “I don’t want it to be an album just full of hits. Yes, I want it to have hits, but I want the songs to correlate with one another.”

Saweetie is Hard at Work on Her First Studio LP

I want it to tell many stories — maybe it’s telling many stories of Saweetie’s life.”
