Saweetie Hits Back At Misrepresentation Of Her Album Delay Interview

Saweetie hit out at an X account that misrepresented a recent interview she gave to Allure. “Who paying y’all”, she asked of My Mixtapez, which claimed she was delaying her album due to “no one caring about her music”. What Saweetie had actually said was she felt no one around her, i.e. on her team at her label, cared about the music she was making. “I just feel like nobody was caring about my music. To me, music is sacred. It’s coming from your spirit. You can’t just go finish an album in a week. That’s why it’s taking me so long. That’s why I haven’t dropped an album yet. I don’t mean to dampen the mood,” she told the outlet.

Elsewhere in the interview, she claimed that during the early years of her career, music execs told her to twerk more because her voice was flat. “I was told I should twerk more on my Instagram. I was told that my voice was very boring – I was told that I rapped too monotone and needed more energy. And I was told that I needed to share more of my life on the internet. I’m going to twerk when I want to. That’s not going to be my marketing. And if that’s what you truly love to do, then empower yourself through that,” the rapper claimed.

Saweetie Claps Back At “Richtivities” Haters

Meanwhile, Saweetie has no time for those hating on her new track “Richtivities”. “yall support a lot of mid music maybe I’ll fit in 💋,” the rapper wrote in response to someone calling “good looking” but having “mid” music. Furthermore, she took issue with people calling her out for never having “struggled” as she said “Richtivities” was inspired by music that made her “hustle harder”. “praying u have more discernment since u believe everything u see 🤞🏽,” she replied to one critic. “Part time receptionist, part time jordan ambassador, part time coder, part time waitress, created my clothing line MMM & successfully ran it by myself. What’s this called then?” she shot back at another.

“Richtivities” dropped after being teased by the rapper last month. Saweetie posted up poolside to preview her new track. The hook (“I’m doing rich sh-t”) played on repeat as the rapper vibed in pleated corset top and dark pants. From what is heard, the track has Saweetie’s classic pointed vocals and hard, hype-style beat. Fans online seemed pretty pumped for the track. “I kinda like it her music b gettin me hyped when i b doin my makeup & she talkin dat pretty b shi shes not the most lyrical obviously but it b a cool lil vibe,” one person said. However, not everyone was digging the track. “I want Saweetie to go back to her style during 2019. That icy girl/boujee girl flow was EVERYTHING,” another commenter countered.

Saweetie Bosses Up On “Immortal Freestyle”

Suit up for what looks to be a new era for Saweetie, as she just dropped her latest, “Immortal Freestyle.” For years, Saweetie has been honing in her craft while cranking out hits that have taken over clubs and social media. She’s toured, appeared on festival stages, and also caused conversations with her televised performances. Despite the trolls and naysayers, Saweetie continues to storm up the charts and seems to be setting up a 2024 takeover.

Recently, we told you about Saweetie stunning in the sun while previewing some new music. Over the last few weeks, several Rap Girlies have delivered fire freestyles that give a nod to what they’ve been working on. Saweetie entered the chat with “Immortal Freestyle,” and she caught up with PAPER to speak candidly about her return.

Saweetie Wants To Inspire Women

“I think ‘Immortal Freestyle’ is just a statement for all the girls who feel like they’ve been knocked down before and always, continuously get up no matter what,” Saweetie told the publication. “I just wanted to inspire my Icy Girls to continue to do what they do, no matter how tough and dangerous the storm may look. Because if you keep preserving and if you keep doing what you’re supposed to do, you’ll get to your destination. We’re immortal baby. I know that’s right!”

Moreover, although it’s unclear if the femcee’s debut album Pretty B*tch Music will arrive this year, Saweetie did explain what the phrase means to her. She said, “It’s how you treat people; it’s how you move; it’s your aura! Pretty b*tch music is a movement. I pray and I hope all my girls are able to tap into who they are, and they’re able to achieve their highest level of energy.”

While you decide whether or not this PBM is the movement for you, check out Saweetie’s “Immortal Freestyle” and let us know your thoughts.

Quotable Lyrics

Tie my shoеs up, I’m goin’ on a run
I could pull your n*gga with no makeup and a bun
My gay homeboys said, “B*tch, don’t leave no crumbs”
Wait, I think I heard something
Oh it’s just them b*tches at the bottom who ain’t worth nothin’ (Huh)
I can’t hear nothin’, sittin’ pretty at the top (Top)
Get my phone (Brrr), yeah, time to call the shots (Shots)

Saweetie Claps Back At TikToker Who Doesn’t Like “Bo$$ Chick”

Fans have all but given up on Saweetie’s debut studio album, but the rapper has been hard at work. Saweetie has been promising Pretty B*tch Music for years, and with each teased release date comes a disappointment. Her debut’s delay has been explained away at each step, but that hasn’t stopped Saweetie from dropping singles. To placate her fans, the rapper delivered The Single Life, an EP she shared in November 2022. One of the project’s tracks, “Bo$$ Chick,” has received viral attention. This has caused some to hear the song for the first time; not everyone is a fan.

Hip Hop’s Icy Girl is used to facing off against critics. Artists regularly find their social media comments overtaken by naysayers, and Saweetie has dismissed the fuss. On TikTok, she uploaded a clip of herself lipsyncing a portion of “Bo$$ Chick” along with a dance, but a user wasn’t impressed. “I’m sorry I don’t like the song [crying loudly emojis].” Much of the time, artists ignore these remarks, but Saweetie had a minute to spare.

Saweetie Claps Back

The TikToker wasn’t the only one with criticism, but Saweetie only addressed her. “Wellllll I don’t expect everyone to have good taste [shrug emoji],” the “My Type” rapper replied. Soon, dozens of her fans jumped in to cosign. Meanwhile, in April 2021, Saweetie hinted that her Pretty B*tch Music album faced delays because she was working on her craft. She revealed she was enduring a boot camp of sorts to sharpen her skills.

“Well for me, I’m gonna focus on what I struggle with — I struggle with breathing control,” she told Apple Music. “I’m gonna work on my dance moves, my details, all that good stuff, my body, my stamina, everything.” Meanwhile, the rapper more recently revealed that her debut would “definitely” arrive before the end of the year. When asked who she hoped to collaborate with one day, she gave a common answer: Rihanna. If the pair ever did link up for a record, Saweetie hopes it would be a dance track that gets fans’ bodies moving. We’ll have to wait to see if that ever materializes, but in the meantime, check out her brief exchange with the TikToker above.

Saweetie Wants Rihanna “Dance Record” Collab

She’s unashamedly putting it out in the universe that she wants to work with Rihanna, and we can’t blame Saweetie at all. The Bay Area hitmaker joins thousands of other creatives who wish to one day link in the studio with the billionaire mogul. The two ladies share a commonality: no one knows when either of them will release their next album. Rihanna hasn’t given us a full-length record since 2016’s Anti, and Saweetie has been mapping out her official debut album, Pretty B*tch Music, for years.

While it seems RiRi has been busy building her billionaire Fenty brand and welcoming babies into the world, Saweetie’s fans aren’t sure what’s keeping her project on ice. The “My Type” hitmaker caught up with Metro UK to discuss her phantom release that apparently has “more collaborations” than her fans will expect. Again, she insists the album is close to being completed. “Definitely way before the end of the year,” she said of its date. “I’m working on the album, I’m really focused on my craft right now.”

Saweetie Is In Full Swing

As she edges closer to Prety B*tch Music‘s arrival, Saweetie details what’s next. “I’m about to drop some treatments and collaborate some,” she revealed. “Direct with some directors to shoot some new music videos.” Of course, Metro UK wanted to know who Saweetie’s dream collaboration would be. Without hesitation, she named the “Rude Boy” star. “I definitely want to work with Rihanna. [The Super Bowl] wasn’t even a game, it was the Rihanna concert.” So, what kind of song would it be? “[We would] release a dance record to get the party going.”

We’ll have to wait and see if Rihanna is down to connect, but her hands are full these days. Meanwhile, it has been an arduous journey for Saweetie to get her debut to streaming services. It was reportedly supposed to arrive in 2021, but that year, Saweetie revealed she was locked in boot camp. The rapper was working on her craft, and later, a conversation with Cher would push her release date back even further.

Advice From Cher

“I thought [the album] was done, but after I met her, I had an epiphany,” Saweetie said in 2021. “This album needs to have feelings, it needs to have soul, it needs to have spirit. And I have a lot of room for improvement, so I’m gonna work on that. And once it’s done, the album will be released.”

Saweetie Shares An Update On Her Oft-Delayed Debut Album, ‘Pretty B*tch Music’

Over the past year, rapper Saweetie has been everywhere, from guest slots on TV shows like Grown-ish, to her own Sex: Unzipped Netflix special, and of course, her own meal at McDonald’s. But what’s been noticeably missing is a full-length album from the “Closer” rapper.

For years, she’s been teasing her debut album, Pretty Bitch Music. Yesterday, she took to Instagram to share an update on her long-awaited debut.

“These past couple of years have been a growing experience for me as an artist, human, but most importantly a WOMAN,” Saweetie said in an Instagram story. “I have realized my purpose with the platform God has given me which is why I have taken my time with releasing music this time around. Through hours of self-reflection I have realized that Pretty B.*.T.C.H. music is not an album — it’s a movement. It’s a culture. It’s a language. It’s a lifestyle. We not rushing art, we taking our time! This ain’t no microwave sh*t! It’s baking & it will definitely be worth the taste.”

While it may be a while until we get new music from Saweetie, we certainly can expect to see plenty of projects from her, given her impressive résumé. Last week, it was announced she teamed up with Crocs for a collection of “Icy” Jibbitz charms.

Saweetie is a Warner Music Artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Saweetie Cancels ‘Icy Season’ To Work On Her Album, Which Should Be Out By Summer

Saweetie fans have been patiently waiting for her debut album, Pretty Bitch Music, for what might seem like forever after she delayed the album multiple times despite having huge hits in “My Type,” “Tap In,” and “Best Friend.” To hold them over, she initially planned to release an EP, Icy Season, in the first quarter of 2022, but now it seems even that plan has changed — but for a good reason. In a new interview with Billboard, the Bay Area rapper explained that she nixed the EP to lock in on finishing the album, which she now says should be out by summer.

She also explains why putting out her debut album has at times seemed such a halting, laborious process. “Sometimes our hit song is bigger than us and we’re just thrown into the game,” she says. “When you get signed, the label wants a hit. They want a return on their investment, which I understand. But it’s important for artists to understand themselves before they start seeking for hits. Because if you don’t know yourself, you don’t know your music.” She also doesn’t want to rush the process, as she feels she did with 2018’s High Maintenance and 2019’s Icy, and doesn’t “want to be safe anymore. Now it’s time to experiment.”

Considering she’s reportedly got a song in Tagalog, as well as Latin collab according to Billboard, it sounds like she’s expanding what the expectations of her album should be. Hopefully, she’s able to meet her own self-imposed deadline and live up to the potential she’s shown over the past few years.

Saweetie Explains Exactly What To Do For An ‘Icy Chain’ In Her Bouncy New Single

Ahead of her upcoming performance on SNL this weekend, Saweetie has released her latest Pretty Bitch Music single, “Icy Chain.” While she’s been teasing the track, performing it both at 88rising’s Head In The Clouds festival and on her Icy Season Amazon special, it looks like she wanted to give fans an early holiday gift before playing it live on Saturday night.

Produced by Lil Aaron(!) and Rocco Did It Again and based on the Memphis trap sound popularized by the likes of Juicy J and the Three-6-Mafia, the energetic single finds Saweetie telling her listeners exactly what to do to secure themselves an Icy chain of their own: Twerk that ass. On the verses, Saweetie coolly flaunts her luxurious possessions — a crocodile Birkin, a mink, a Rolex, and a Prada bikini — while dismissing any potential detractors, from jilted ex-sponsors to pretentious animal rights protection groups.

Meanwhile, Saweetie fans were given no shortage of new material from the bougie Bay Area rapper this week, who also contributed to French Montana’s new album (reuniting with Doja Cat on “Handstand“) and the soundtrack to Halle Berry’s upcoming Netflix directorial debut Bruised. And last week, she dropped the full version of her single “Get It Girl” on the Insecure soundtrack after teasing it in a Beats By Dre ad earlier this month. It looks like it really is Icy Season — and Pretty Bitch Music is hopefully also right around the corner to cap it off.

Saweetie Premiered New Music And Answered Fan Questions In Her ‘Icy Season’ Amazon Special

It may not be the full TV show I campaigned for last week, but Saweetie’s new Amazon special, “Icy Season,” is a perfect snapshot of exactly the qualities that make the Bay Area star so fascinating onscreen. In addition to putting the live band treatment on her fan-favorite hits — including a holiday remix of her breakout song “Icy Grl” — Saweetie shows off her upbeat personality, plays piano (with claws, no less!), and answers fan questions while sitting down with co-hosts Symone from Drag Race and Instagram comic Rickey Thompson.

She also debuts for the first time in a wide-share format the new song “Icy Chain” from her upcoming album Pretty Bitch Music. While she’s performed the song onstage a handful of times at recent festival appearances, this is the first time it’s been played during a widely accessible show. During the show, Saweetie and her co-hosts also promote the Calvin Klein brand, making the special a bit of a cross between a talk show, a variety show, and the Home Shopping Network.

While it’s unclear whether this is the event Saweetie teased would “unfold during the holidays,” she still has an SNL performance coming up later this month, so it’s possible that the official release date for PBM is still forthcoming.

Saweetie Interviewed Chloe Bailey For The Second Season Of Her ‘Icy University’ Series

While the world waits for Saweetie to drop Pretty B*tch Music, she seems to be happy doing anything but. As part of her ongoing promo campaign, Saweetie has been hitting all her marks, collaborating with a massive brand like McDonalds, and dropping episodes of her tongue-in-cheek Icy University on Youtube.

Her latest episode of the series is extra special though, because it features none other than breakout star Chloe Bailey of Chloe x Halle fame. After Ungodly Hour turned heads in 2020, Chloe became a breakout star in her own right via some steamy Instagram videos, and is now preparing to release her first solo single, “Have Mercy.” She even dropped some behind-the-scenes promo photos for the new single today that stoked fans excitement even higher.

But in the meantime, Chloe showed up to chat with Saweetie about everything from her new music to self-love and body positivity. Could this connection potentially lead to a collaboration between the two? Perhaps! For now, check out the first episode of Icy University‘s second season up above, and keep an ear out for more new music from both of these women. 2021 isn’t over yet, and there’s still plenty of time for both these ladies to give fans what they want to hear.
