Megan Thee Stallion Pie’d One Of Her Dancers While Performing ‘Sweetest Pie’ At The iHeartRadio Awards

Megan Thee Stallion and Dua Lipa’s new single “Sweetest Pie” is a hit, and now Meg has offered a fresh live performance of it at last night’s 2022 iHeartRadio Music Awards. She kept things exciting by taking a moment to pie one of her dancers in the face during the rendition, which followed Meg performing “Megan’s Piano.”

As for the awards themselves, Megan was nominated for a handful — Hip-Hop Artist Of The Year, Best Fan Army, and TikTok Bop Of The Year — but didn’t come away with any of them. She did, however, accept the Trailblazer Award and said during her acceptance speech, “I want to say with my platform, I will keep on continuing to be a voice for the voiceless, I will keep on fighting for all the injustices that me, my Black women, my Black men are facing, and I will keep showing up and showing out even in the face of adversity.”

Others in hip-hop were represented elsewhere, as winners included Lil Nas X (Male Artist Of The Year), Pop Smoke’s “What You Know Bout Love” (Hip-Hop Song Of The Year), and Drake (Hip-Hop Artist Of The Year).

Rock also showed up via Machine Gun Kelly (Alternative Artist Of The Year) and Foo Fighters (Rock Artist Of The Year). Pop had a lot of victors, too, like Dua Lipa’s “Levitating” (Song Of The Year), Olivia Rodrigo (Female Artist Of The Year, Best New Pop Artist, and TikTok Bop Of The Year for “Good 4 U”), Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault)” (Best Lyrics), Adele’s 30 (Best Comeback Album), and Finneas (Producer Of The Year).

Lorde Praises Rosalía’s New Album ‘Motomami’: ‘F*ck, It’s So Good’

Since going off the grid following the success of Melodrama, Lorde has preferred to use email newsletters to communicate with fans. Technically, it’s how she announced her latest album, last year’s Solar Power, and she often sends out missives on days when she has news or updates on her music and tour. Today, she launched the video for “Secrets From A Girl (Who’s Seen It All),” and sent out a newsletter to promote that, as well as share what she’s been up to so far this year.

One thing she’s been up to? Fan girl-ing over Rosalía, as so many of us have been. Motomami is, no question, one of the most inventive and exciting albums of the year, and as Cardi B herself said, you don’t really even have to know Spanish to understand the intention behind this music.

For Lorde’s part, she thinks the project is a good reminder of why pop music itself exists. “I’ve listened to the Rosalía album every day since it came out,” she wrote in the newsletter. “F*ck, it’s so good, I gagged when I heard that interpolation of “Archangel,” “Hentai” is genius, “Sakura”… projects like this remind me why I live for pop music — at its best, there’s nothing better.”

Couldn’t agree more! If you haven’t done so, feel free to sign up for Lorde’s newsletter right here.

Cardi B Thinks The New Rosalía Album Is ‘Soooo Fireeee’ That Fans Don’t Need To Understand It To Enjoy It

Rosalía‘s album Motomami, released on Friday, was met with instant success and praise. After a rollout full of catchy songs, seductive music videos, and glowing late-night television performances, she caught everyone’s attention and impressively built up the hype as much as possible. It turns out she even captured famous rapper Cardi B‘s attention, who took to Twitter over the weekend to share her love for Motomami: “Loving the Rosalia album…..soooo fireeee….Even if you don’t speak Spanish you will get into it.”

Cardi B is known for appreciating artists through social media posts, and lately she’s been casually showing off her eclectic music taste; just last week, she tweeted a clip of iconic third-wave emo band My Chemical Romance‘s 2004 video for their thrashing hit “I’m Not Okay (I Promise)” from their third studio album Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge. For the caption, she wrote, “They don’t make music like this anymore,” leaving the replies overflowing with questions like, “Cardi are you about to be in your emo era?” and, of course, “Remember when you used to release music? We miss that.”

Dua Lipa, J. Cole, And Metallica Headline Lollapalooza’s Stuffed Chicago 2022 Lineup

Chicago’s Lollapalooza fest has long been known as one of the biggest, most musically diverse festivals around, and this year, apparently, will be no exception. The 2022 lineup has been announced, with headliners including hard rock mainstays Metallica, disco-pop revivalist Dua Lipa, gymnastic rap enthusiast J. Cole, and pop-punk pioneers Green Day. The big print on the flyer for the four-day festival runs a bit rap-heavy, though, as Doja Cat, Machine Gun Kelly, and Lil Baby fill out the top third (yeah, I know, MGK’s technically an emo rocker now), along with EDM icon Kygo.

Further down the list is a truly breathtaking range of both up-and-coming and veteran artists including Glass Animals, Big Sean, Jazmine Sullivan, Don Toliver, Charli XCX, Denzel Curry, Blxst, Willow, Cordae, Caroline Polachek, PinkPanthress, Audrey Nuna, Wet Leg, Larry June, Coi Leray, King Princess, Dashboard Confessional, Baby Tate, Petey, Blackstarkids, and more. There’s even a special guest: Jane’s Addiction, who last performed together two years ago in 2020.

Lollapalooza is set for the weekend of July 28-31 in Chicago’s Grant Park. Tickets go on sale today at 12 pm CT, with General Admission starting at $350 and a four-day Platinum pass going for up to $4200. You can find more information at lollapalooza.com.

Ed Sheeran Teases Two New Collaborations With J Balvin

Ahead of his upcoming Mathematics Tour, Ed Sheeran took to Instagram and Twitter yesterday to tease new music. In a series of posts, he recounted meeting Colombian singer/rapper J Balvin at a gym last year around Christmas.

“It was just me and him very early in the morning. I recognised his voice when he was on the phone so I just went up and said hi,” said the “Shivers” singer.

Included in the posts was a video with clips of the two in a recording studio, along with them on the set of what appears to be a music video.

Sheeran followed up the video clip, revealing he and Balvin later went for lunch and afternoon tea. The two would later take to the studio to write and record two songs — “Sigue” and “Forever My Love.”

“He wanted to bring me into his world, and I wanted to bring him into mine,” Sheeran continued “Was a proper challenge learning Spanish for this and I had so much fun doing it.”

Neither Sheeran nor Balvin have revealed an exact release date for their collaborations, however, Sheeran teases they will be out “soon” and he “absolutely” loves them.

Lizzo Plays A Sample Of A New Disco-Inspired Song Called ‘About Damn Time’ On ‘The Late Late Show’

A few days ago, Lizzo declared her new album is finished, writing on Instagram, “Oh yeah b*tch… I just mastered my album and turns out its 100% DONE ! YOU THINK U KNOW BUT U HAVE NO IDEA. BABY HOW YOU HEALING? HEALING GOOD AS HELL.” Last night, she guested on The Late Late Show With James Corden and offered a taste of a new song called “About Damn Time” by sharing a sample of it on the show.

During the interview, Corden pulled out a vinyl record with a simple sleeve that said, “TOP SECRET Lizzo New Music 2022.” He then popped the record on a portable turntable and played about 30 seconds of the track as Lizzo, fellow Late Late Show guest Gabrielle Union, and the studio audience danced and clapped along to the beat. Indeed, it’s a song to dance to and the soulful, funky, disco-inspired tune sounds like a hit.

Lizzo also noted the song is set to be released on April 14. That’s just two days before her upcoming appearance on Saturday Night Live, so it seems likely she’ll end up performing the track on the show.

Elsewhere in the show, Lizzo popped up after Corden declared ’80s music is the best for dancing to. They then had a “riff-off,” with Corden singing ’80s tune while Lizzo sang Harry Styles’ “Watermelon Sugar,” BTS’ “Butter,” and her own “Juice.”

Lizzo Will Be Double-Dipping As The Host And Musical Guest On ‘SNL’ Next Month

You don’t have to stretch your imagination very far to think about what Lizzo might be like acting in a Saturday Night Live sketch. The multi-talented “Truth Hurts” singer is not just a multi-Platinum, Grammy Award-winning artist, but she’s a viral TikTok star who has shown time and time again that she’s both hilarious and not afraid to speak her mind. So, SNL is ready to put all of Lizzo’s talents on display when she does double-duty as both the host and musical guest of NBC’s hit show on April 16th.

The entire April slate of hosts and musical performers was announced today. In addition to the “Lizzo-palooza” on April 16th, Gunna and Camila Cabello were also confirmed as musical guests in April. Gunna, whose DS4Ever topped the Billboard 200 chart earlier this year, will appear on the April 2nd episode, hosted by comedian Jerrod Carmichael. Meanwhile, Camila Cabello, who just announced that her new album Familia will be out on April 8th, will be the musical guest for an episode hosted by Jake Gyllenhaall on April 9th. It’s a perfectly timed appearance for Cabello with her album coming out the day before the episode, and it’s also a boost that it will mark Gylenhaal’s first time hosting the show in 15 years.

The Weeknd Plays A Famous Kid Influencer In An Episode Of ‘The Simpsons’

In 2020, famous pop star The Weeknd appeared in an episode of American Dad and voiced some characters on Robot Chicken. It was confirmed a couple of weeks ago that he would be on the March 20 episode of The Simpsons, “Bart The Cool Kid.” The episode synopsis reads, “When Bart befriends a famous kid influencer who owns an ultra-cool skate wear brand, Homer leads a rebellion of loser dads against them.”

That episode premiered last night. His character is Orion Hughes, who owns the Supreme-parody skate wear brand named Slipreme. He also voiced the character’s father, Darius. Check out a funny clip below, and find more on the official Simpsons Twitter.

The “Blinding Lights” singer heightened the hype of his appearance by quote-tweeting Matt Selman, the executive producer of The Simpsons: “Thank you Matt !! Let’s make Orion Hughes and Bart’s friendship a re-occurring thing.” It looks like more cartoons are in the musician’s future.

In a 2020 Variety interview, The Weeknd said, “American Dad was everything I wanted. It’s going to be hard to beat this in the TV cartoon world, but an obvious bucket list would be to work on The Simpsons. That would be a dream — and if they’re reading this, I actually have a pretty cool idea if they’re down.”
