Megan Thee Stallion Makes Her BBMA Debut With Performances Of ‘Plan B’ and ‘Sweetest Pie’

Megan Thee Stallion delivered another reminder that her knees were created in a laboratory in her performance debut at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards. The Houston artist graced the stage sporting a thong bodysuit and lace-up boots with an initial solo rendition of “Plan B” before her backup dancers joined the fun. She then transitioned into “Sweetest Pie” sans co-star Dua Lipa.

The 27-year-old walked away from the night with the Top Rap Female Artist award, a form of recognition she’s already familiar with having won it at the 2020 BBMAs. She also previously won the 2019 Billboard Women In Music Powerhouse award.

Megan Thee Stallion has been riding a huge wave of momentum over the years, seeing much success due to collaborations with Cardi B (“WAP”), Beyonce (“Savage Remix”), and Nicki Minaj (“Hot Girl Summer”). She’s taken home a Grammy at each of the last three shows and set Guinness World Records for being the first Female Lead Rapper to win Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance. She last released Something For Thee Hotties back in October 2021, following up her debut album Good News in November 2020. Revlon and Essence took to Twitter to salute Megan for her 2022 BBMAs victory, which likely will not be her last.

Megan The Stallion Recalls Working With Dua Lipa: ‘She Felt Like A Familiar Spirit’

Ahead of her Future Nostalgia tour, Dua Lipa linked up with Megan The Stallion to record their sugary collaboration, “Sweetest Pie.” In a profile on Lipa for Vogue, Megan, who is opening for Lipa on select dates of the Future Nostalgia tour, recalled working with the “Levitating” singer on their collaboration.

During their sessions, Megan said she and Lipa formed a friendship that felt natural.

“When somebody is so gorgeous and established, you don’t know what to expect,” Megan said. “A lot of ladies can be divas. But Dua is just so nice. She felt like a familiar spirit. We have an unspoken bond, it’s not even anything we need to discuss. Sometimes people get the wrong idea about me, too. But once you meet me, you’re like, Oh! This is my homegirl.”

Also in the profile, “Sweetest Pie’s” co-writer Clarence Coffee, who also co-wrote “Levitating,” took time to speak on Lipa’s craft.

“I wish more people could see how she is as an artist in a room,” Coffee said. “She has incredible ideas, she’s a great lyricist, and she’s a beast with melodies.”

Megan Thee Stallion Pie’d One Of Her Dancers While Performing ‘Sweetest Pie’ At The iHeartRadio Awards

Megan Thee Stallion and Dua Lipa’s new single “Sweetest Pie” is a hit, and now Meg has offered a fresh live performance of it at last night’s 2022 iHeartRadio Music Awards. She kept things exciting by taking a moment to pie one of her dancers in the face during the rendition, which followed Meg performing “Megan’s Piano.”

As for the awards themselves, Megan was nominated for a handful — Hip-Hop Artist Of The Year, Best Fan Army, and TikTok Bop Of The Year — but didn’t come away with any of them. She did, however, accept the Trailblazer Award and said during her acceptance speech, “I want to say with my platform, I will keep on continuing to be a voice for the voiceless, I will keep on fighting for all the injustices that me, my Black women, my Black men are facing, and I will keep showing up and showing out even in the face of adversity.”

Others in hip-hop were represented elsewhere, as winners included Lil Nas X (Male Artist Of The Year), Pop Smoke’s “What You Know Bout Love” (Hip-Hop Song Of The Year), and Drake (Hip-Hop Artist Of The Year).

Rock also showed up via Machine Gun Kelly (Alternative Artist Of The Year) and Foo Fighters (Rock Artist Of The Year). Pop had a lot of victors, too, like Dua Lipa’s “Levitating” (Song Of The Year), Olivia Rodrigo (Female Artist Of The Year, Best New Pop Artist, and TikTok Bop Of The Year for “Good 4 U”), Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault)” (Best Lyrics), Adele’s 30 (Best Comeback Album), and Finneas (Producer Of The Year).

Megan Thee Stallion Joins Dua Lipa on Her New Podcast ‘Dua Lipa: At Your Service’

Megan Thee Stallion and Dua Lipa Team for "Sweetest Pie" Single and Video

Megan Thee Stallion connected with Dua Lipa for “The Sweetest Pie,” a single primed to take over the spring into the early summer. Following their collaboration, Hip Hop’s Hot Girl visited Dua Lipa on her iHeartRadio podcast, Dua Lipa: At Your Service.

During the conversation, Dua Lipa and Megan discuss the new single and how it actually became a reality. “I wrote so many versions of this song. Finally, when I heard your voice on it I was like, ‘No – I need to rewrite all of this. It’s not good enough [for you],” Megan said.

The two would also dive into the challenges of operating in the male-dominated music industry, citing the unfair labeling in terms of business.

“When you think about women doing anything in general you think ‘catty’… That’s what we’ve been taught for so long. When you watch TV, you see a woman in competition with another. I think boys play a big part of that in the industry, too. You have your people that want to cheer you on but to uplift, you don’t have to put down someone else.” Megan said.

Dua added, “I think there’s space for everyone.”

You can hear the new podcast below.

Last week, Megan Thee Stallion teamed up with Dua Lipa for the first single off Megan’s next album. The song features two of music’s most strong women, and it’s the superstars’ first single of 2022, released during Women’s History Month.

“Sweetest Pie” is a delectable, sultry song that honors women as the prize, whatever that means to them. The song is accompanied by a music video, which was directed by Dave Meyers and produced by Freenjoy.

Megan Thee Stallion Revels In Creeping Out Fans With The ‘Sweetest Pie’ Video: ‘MISSION ACCOMPLISHED’

Last night, after a week of teases, Megan Thee Stallion and Dup Lipa released the macabre video for their collaboration, “Sweetest Pie.”

Although it takes place in a fairy tale fantasy land, the video is packed with disconcerted slices (heh) of body horror and unsettling surrealism that apparently had some fans feeling a bit creeped out, according to a celebratory tweet Megan posted this morning. However, rather than being apologetic, she flaunted the fact that some fans probably had to watch through their fingers, crowing, “I see that the #SweetestPie video scared some people or creeped them out a lil bit. Lol MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. How many times do I have to say I love horror films/ aesthetics?”

She certainly has said as much a few times; in 2019, she said that she was writing her own horror movie before sharing her “Hottieween” series of shorts to celebrate the spooky season. Then, in 2020, she hinted at wanting to work with master horror director Jordan Peele, who has been chilling audiences since 2016 with his Oscar-winning Get Out, Us, and the upcoming Nope. Meg even compared herself to seemingly immortal (or at least, unkillable) slasher icon Jason Voorhees in an interview earlier this month, joking that “no matter how hard my haters try to take me out, I keep coming back harder!” She also shared her favorite horror films after a fan followed up her earlier tweet with a question, and I gotta say: It’s a pretty solid list.

With her Netflix first-look production deal in place, she’s getting closer to her dreams of giving us all nightmares; perhaps “Sweetest Pie” is just a dry run, letting her practice and preview what skin-crawling delights she has in store.

Megan The Stallion And Dua Lipa Offer An Enticing Taste Of The ‘Sweetest Pie’ In Their Seductive Video

Megan Thee Stallion and Dua Lipa have grown to be two of music’s most exciting musicians. Both have top-5 albums, those being Good News and Future Nostalgia respectively. They also have top-2 records on the singles chart with Megan’s being “Savage” and Dua Lipa’s being “Don’t Start Now” and “Levitating.” Add in Grammy wins and it’s clear that the two artists are well on their way to stardom, if they’re not already. With that being said, it’s only right that they join forces for their new song “Sweetest Pie,” a record that comes with an enticing video.

The new visual begins with two men walking in a forest when they’re greeted by Megan and Dua Lipa. At first, they’re intrigued by the artists, but soon enough they realize that Megan and Dua’s sweetest pies are too much for them to handle and they quickly run away. The men return with an army of guys to try and take down Megan and Dua, but they fail in their attempt as the ladies overcome their attack to reign supreme.

The song arrives as a high moment for both artists. Megan was recently forced to sue her label, 1501 Certified Entertainment, after they refused to count her last project, Something For Thee Hotties, as a project to fulfill her contract with them. As for Dua Lipa, she received two lawsuits that accused her of stealing from other songs to create her hit record “Levitating.”
