Snoop Dogg Crowns Kendrick Lamar “The King Of The West”

Kendrick Lamar’s “Pop Out” concert on Juneteenth in Los Angeles will likely go down as one of the biggest hip-hop-adjacent events of 2024. Frankly, the reaction to it on the West Coast might cement it as one of the biggest cultural moments of the year at large, and one of L.A.’s most iconic figures recently gave his stamp of approval. Moreover, Snoop Dogg relayed a message to the Compton lyricist for his show, but ironically enough, he said that he was out in Canada, the territory of Kendrick’s current rival Drake. We’ll get to that soon enough, but Tha Doggfather did not focus at all on that conflict and instead stressed the much more meaningful importance of what went down that night.

“Top of the morning, Big Snoop Dogg coming at you live from Canada,” the Long Beach native began his message to Kendrick Lamar. “Sending a big shoutout to K.Dot and all the homies from the West that stood together, unified, organized, in peace [and] love. That was beautiful, that was fun to watch. Beautiful to see all of my peoples coming together. And, um, K.Dot… you are the king of the west. That’s the kind of s**t kings do: we unite. We bring our peoples together.”

Snoop Dogg’s Proud Message To Kendrick Lamar After “The Pop Out”

Furthermore, this is all very interesting because of the mixed signals that Snoop Dogg has sent in the midst of the Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef. You probably recall that Drizzy used an A.I. Snoop verse on the “Taylor Made Freestyle” diss, and that Death Row now falls under the OVO-affiliated Gamma. However, other social media posts, public statements, and verse shoutouts indicated that the Cali legend was sticking to his roots. It’s a pretty complicated subject to theorize on, but at the very least, we know that he likely has a lot of love for both sides.

After all, Snoop Dogg was featured on Drake’s most recent album For All The Dogs, and there hasn’t been much that indicates he thinks there’s a “winner” or a right side. Rather, he focused on praising both. This time around, though, it was great to see the emphasis fall on West Coast unity rather than rap beef. Even though there are still some question marks here and there, it’s clear that there are much more important things than whose “side” someone’s on.

Kanye West Blasts Kim Kardashian In New Verse For Replacing Him With A “Manny”

Rich The Kid, Kanye West, and Ty Dolla $ign’s “Gimme A Second 2” is hyping up Rich’s new album. But it’s also contributing to the ever-present tension between Ye and his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian. Moreover, in his verse, he blasts Kim for hiring a “manny” to provide a stronger and more present male influence. “My oldest said, ‘Daddy not going to Heaven,’” the Chicago artist raps on the cut. “Treat me like a deadbeat, said I wasn’t present / They was tryna treat a king like a peasant / They bought my son a new dad like it’s no headache / Don’t give a f**k about s**t, I’m irreverent.”

“I do think that my household, and even in our family, it’s very female-dominated,” Kim Kardashian said of this decision during the current season of The Kardashians. She continued: “I recently hired a manny, I really wanted a male around that was going to be picking them up and taking them to sports. I was scared out of my mind to tell their dad that.” Clearly, that fear manifested into a Kanye West verse, although things reportedly didn’t seem so bad at the onset.

Rich The Kid, Kanye West & Ty Dolla $ign’s “Gimme A Second 2”: Listen

“When he was dropping off the kids, Kanye introduced himself. Played two-on-two with Saint and him, has been so nice to him,” Kim Kardashian revealed. “Saying, ‘Hey, if you’re going to help raise my son – because he handed him the ball really easily – don’t do that, make him go get it himself. These are some of the rules that I would want.’” It’s a curious, albeit precedented, change of heart and double-edged sword that prompts connection and jealousy.

Meanwhile, Kanye West is busy with his wife Bianca Censori… and with a sexual harassment lawsuit against him. It’s a pretty turbulent time in the Yeezy universe right now, but then again, what else is new? It will be interesting to see whether this change in family dynamic will cause more rifts or chill things out. Our best wishes have the latter in mind.

Ice Spice’s Boastful ‘Phat Butt’ Video Flexes Both Her Bars And Body

Pull those pants up. Bronx rapper Ice Spice continues her Y2K! rollout with the tough-talking “Phat Butt” video. As always, the new song is produced by Ice’s long-running collaborator RiotUSA, who offers a video gamey beat that gives the rapper plenty of room to stretch her lyrical muscles. Among her boasts on track are reminders of her recent success (“We came from the four line to four times Grammy nominated”) and, of course, flexes about her attention-grabbing physique (“Fat butt pull my pants up / Shakin’ ass got my bands up”).

“Phat Butt” is the third single from Ice Spice’s upcoming debut album Y2K!, following “Think U the Sh*t (Fart)” and “Gimmie A Light.” While none has reached the heights of the four hit singles she references in the lyrics to “Phat Butt” (“Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2” with PinkPantheress, “Karma” by Taylor Swift, and “Princess Diana” and “Barbie World” with Nicki Minaj), fans continue to look forward to the debut. Ice confirmed its July 26 release date after months of teasing, then announced her headlining tour with Cash Cobain earlier this month, following up with a defense of the album cover after fans maligned it online.

Y2K! will be out on July 26 via 10K Projects and Capitol Records.

Swizz Beatz Dismisses Backlash To His & Timbaland’s “Verzuz” Deal With Elon Musk

The announcement of a new exclusive Verzuz distribution partnership with Twitter had many fans calling series heads Swizz Beatz and Timbaland out for allegedly “selling out.” Moreover, this new initiative became news on Juneteenth, and followed much controversy after Musk supported a tweet on his platform that provided false comparative data of Black-on-white murder. However, Swizz took to Instagram on Friday morning (June 21) to double down on his support and on his belief that he and Timbo are doing what’s right and best for them and the series without compromising on their values. He included a couple of other pictures of the meeting in which they apparently sealed the deal.

We will show you better than tell you. Blessings to all,” Swizz Beatz captioned the social media post. In the comments section of that post (which you can find below), he addressed some specific concerns. “But nobody said anything before we been on that platform since Verzuz started,” the producer replied to a comment stating that folks have valid reason to be skeptical about this. “Verzuz been on this platform since day one !” he responded to a complaint that suggested they do this with another social media site. “People want to talk with out doing the homework . The convo always been on that platform King bless up!! and we’re 100% black owned that’s not enough we own 100% of the IP and company!”

However, Swizz Beatz did agree with a bizarre comment about his new Instagram post being what they should’ve posted on Juneteenth. In addition, he had this to say about someone that criticized him and Timbaland for apparently selling out and doing something that the people aren’t feeling. “Trust me that was the last thing we did was sell out [crying-laughing emoji] relax you will understand in 1min.”

Meanwhile, Swizz Beatz teased a lot when it came to the reunion of Tha Dogg Pound that landed earlier this year. Hopefully this means that there’s much more new music on the way as well, regardless of what happens with Verzuz. It’ll be exciting to see how it develops, even with these grievances and concerns in mind. All we can hope for is that he and Timbaland got a much better understanding of a hopefully beneficiary deal than we did.

Ice Spice Switches Up Her Sound On “Phat Butt” And Fans Can’t Help But Hear Nicki Minaj

Ice Spice is an artist who blew up very fast. Overall, this was thanks to her song “Munch” which launched during the Fall of 2022. However, when you become a massive artist in a short amount of time, there can be some growing pains. Luckily, Spice had a strong debut EP. Moreover, she got co-signs and features from the likes of Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift. As for the rollout to her new album Y2K, there have been a few missteps.

Songs like “Gimme A Light” and “Think U The Shit (Fart)” have not been the hits fans were hoping for. Moreover, her album art from David LaChapelle left a lot to be desired. However, it seems as though her fortunes might be changing. This is all thanks to the new song “Phat Butt” which is meant to be the intro track on Y2K. Ice Spice is giving us a new sound on the track, and it has been getting quite a bit of praise. Although, some believe this might be because of the song’s similarities to Nicki Minaj.

Ice Spice Drops “Phat Butt”

“Definitely chewing on “Chi-Raq” flow with some “Shanghai” realness and I can’t even be mad. This sounds good,” one fan wrote. “why we hating on spice when she is constantly giving nicki her flowers and blatantly showing that nicki is her inspiration is beyond me.. she literally had a princess chain, she embraced the title yet yall wanna hate so bad no matter what she do,” said another. Many of the commenters were making references to “Chi-Raq,” a song that Nicki did with G-Herbo. Ultimately, this Nicki inspiration seems to have breathed new life into Spice’s sound. Hopefully, she continues to experiment.

Megan Thee Stallion Dodges “Savage” Lawsuit By Securing Victory In Copyright Case

According to new reports from AllHipHop, Megan Thee Stallion just secured a legal win in court over a copyright lawsuit against her from last year. Moreover, producer James A. Greene claimed that she and “Savage” producer J White Did It had access to a little-known track of his called “It’s About To Be On” in 2020, and copied it via J White’s manager. However, Judge Katherine Polk Failla dismissed this case due to a lack of evidence, pointing to a lack of proof that Warner or the Houston femcee had listened to Greene’s song. In addition, Polk Failla did not see substantial overlap between the drums and vocals of both songs, and the lack of wide distribution for Greene’s track helped Megan’s case.

Now that Megan Thee Stallion won’t have to deal with this lawsuit, hopefully she spends these resources contributing to the hype around her upcoming album. It drops next week and created a lot of anticipation within fans who are looking forward to seeing this new era and artistic approach. We don’t know how different it will be from previous material (will we even get a song like “Savage” on it?), but that’s somehow more exciting that a blockbuster guarantee. After all, she’s been through a lot that warrants some deeper food for thought and even more bombastic tracks to contrast that.

Megan Thee Stallion Performing “Savage” On Tour This Year

What’s more is that, due to unfortunate circumstances, Megan Thee Stallion will get the chance to flex her performance muscles a little bit more. Tyler, The Creator recently announced that he will not be able to play the Outside Lands and Lollapalooza music festivals this year, for which he was slated as a headliner. Tina Snow will be replacing him onstage at the latter festival in Chicago, whereas Sabrina Carpenter will fill in at Outside Lands. Maybe a show is the last thing that she has on her mind given her ongoing “Hot Girl Summer” tour, but there’s an equal chance of her wanting to keep the momentum going.

Meanwhile, Megan Thee Stallion is also enjoying the little things in life, such as a gifted custom “BOA” Gameboy. For someone like her that grew up playing a lot of games and pays homage to them throughout her career and branding, it’s a pretty wild nostalgia bomb. We’ll see what other great things and victories this new album rollout brings. We now have a week until we see that all the hype has been about.

Travis Scott Is Making The Best Of His Miami Arrest By Selling T-Shirts With His Mugshot On Them

Early in the morning on June 20, police officers were called to Miami Beach Marina. There, Travis Scott was asked to leave a charter boat, but that process didn’t go smoothly, as the encounter ended with the rapper getting arrested on charges of disorderly intoxication and trespassing on property after a warning.

It appears Scott is bothered by this approximately 0 percent. For one, hours after the arrest, he tweeted simply, “Lol.” Then, he decided to make the most of the situation by selling t-shirts with his fresh mugshot printed on the front.

The shirt features the photo along with the caption, “It’s Miami,” which was what Scott was reported to have said when asked by police if he had been drinking. So, he seemingly just confirmed that quote.

The shirt is for sale on Scott’s webstore, with the product titled “FREE THE RAGE TEE #2.” The shirts are going for $35, and $5 from each sale will be donated to Scott’s Cactus Jack Foundation.

This whole situation comes not long after settled the final Astroworld Festival wrongful death lawsuit, after nine out of the 10 suits were settled weeks before. That said, there’s still an Astroworld injury case that has yet to be settled.

Ryan Garcia Responds To PED Suspension By Claiming Drake Killed XXXTentacion

Ryan Garcia has been dealing with a pretty heavy controversy as of late. Following his fight against Devin Haney, Garcia ended up testing positive for PEDs. Although Garcia was quick to tell fans that he was innocent, Garcia ultimately tested positive a second time. Subsequently, Garcia was suspended from boxing for one full year. Furthermore, he was fined $10K and has to relinquish his most recent win. This benefits Haney, who maintains his perfect record following the decision.

Following the news, Garcia took to Twitter, where he unleashed the clip. Overall, Garcia has been using social media as a means of promoting fights, and keeping the attention on him. He has made some wild allegations against numerous individuals, and fans have begun to tune him out. However, his latest allegation is certainly one of his most salacious. Below, he claimed that Drake is the one who killed rapper XXXTentacion. Of course, this is a conspiracy theory in the hip-hop world that fans have heard a million times before.

Ryan Garcia Makes Everything A Publicity Stunt

Despite the popularity of the conspiracy theory, there is no proof that Drake did such a thing. In fact, XXXTentacion’s killers have already been convicted. However, there are still some people who believe Drizzy hired the killers. Conspiracy theories are just that… conspiracies. Some people peddle them because they think it makes them look smarter than the average person. However, the result is usually the opposite.
