Questlove Clarifies His Drake/Kendrick Feud And ‘Hip-Hop Is Dead’ Comments: ‘I’ve Seen This Movie Before’

When the beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar was at its apex, Questlove generated some attention when he declared, “Hip Hop truly is dead.” Now that the dust has settled, Quest has taken a moment to go deeper into his thoughts about the whole situation.

In an interview with NPR published yesterday (June 25), Questlove explained:

“I was there at the Source Awards when the sh*t really hit the fan in 1995. And I was there in 1997. That was a ‘What now?’ moment for hip-hop — Tupac and Biggie, embroiled in a battle. I’ve never seen a battle in which it ends well.

We’re living in a polarizing time. We’re living in a time right now where World War III can easily break out at any moment. We’re living in a time when civil war can break out at any moment in the United States. We’re living in a time where the uncertainty of something jumping off is just in the air. You know what I’m saying? For me it’s like, I’ve seen this movie before — and I’m triggered. The aftereffect of Tupac and Biggie was just a 30-year travel into darkness.

And this is not to say that quality has gone down. Look, of course I don’t think hip-hop is dead. If an MC like Little Simz, which people rarely talk about. […] I don’t think people give enough attention to Griselda: Westside, Conway and Benny. Or even, like, Tobe [Nwigwe], Mick Jenkins, Errol Holden, even Denzel Curry. There’s so much quality, dope stuff out there that just goes unnoticed and unchampioned.”

In them, Sexyy Red rocked Chief Keef’s chain, and they got awfully up close and personal.

The “SkeeYee” rapper later took to Instagram to clarify that their bond is more sibling-like than romantic, though many were simply not convinced. She later jokingly went off on the Chicago MC for flirting with King Von’s sister, Kayla B. At this point, they appear to be playing into the rumors, with Sexyy making it overwhelmingly clear that she’s determined to stake her claim.

In a new series of photos shared by Sexyy Red on Instagram today, she’s seen posing alongside Chief Keef’s chain. In a few of them, she even put it in her panties. “Iont care who wear dis mf nie,” she captioned the carousel. As expected, her comments section is now flooded with fans and peers laughing at her wild antics, and also praising her for showing Kayla B that she’s not messing around.

Fortunately, it looks like the two artists have more on the way, as earlier this month, he was spotted at her music video shoot. Drake Apparently Casted His Vote For The Best Diss Song During The Kendrick Lamar Beef

As Kendrick Lamar continues to take his long victory lap, Drake seems to still be picking up the pieces. The Pop Out was one in a plethora of examples, showing just how dominant Kung Fu Kenny has been throughout their feud. It was a such a triumphant victory that it even reunified the entire West Coast hip-hop scene. Meanwhile, Drake continues to be all by his lonesome while moving in a weird way. From his questionable performances on “U My Everything” and “Wah Gwan Delilah” to following Mustard’s ex-wife on IG, he continues to spiral. Now, Drake is voting on polls for the best diss track to drop from the “twenty-v-one” with Kendrick.

The question was posed by an Instagram account by the name of thegoodrappage. It was put up over the weekend and it includes four of the seven disses. To be specific, the user included “euphoria”, “Family Matters”, “Not Like Us”, and “meet the grahams”. Overall, these seem to be records that are generally regarded as the best.

What Diss Song Do You Think Drake Voted For?

At the bottom of the ballot, Drake’s social media handle, champagnepapi, pops up, as he was apparently one of 8,335 people to vote. The creator of the poll even recognized the shocking contributor, as thegoodrappage put a screenshot of the evidence on his IG Story. Fans on social media are eating this up, trying to predict which song Drake could have chosen. Some think he voted for one of his to try up the percentage because “Family Matters” only got six percent of the votes. However, some are not ruling out that he might off picked a Kendrick track. Thankfully for Drizzy, that detailed information will remain unknown.

Queenzflip appeared on the latest episode of The Joe Budden Podcast to discuss why he’s been off the show for the month of June. He and Budden explained that they got into a heated argument earlier in the month and decided it best if he spent some time away.

“We had a big argument, I mean 90 minutes of it. But he was the aggressor in this one. I ain’t gonna lie. People can agree. He was saying some crazy things to me,” Queenzflip began, before Budden interjected to apologize. Flip added that he recorded the entire argument and listened back to it that night. The following morning, he received a phone call. “I get a call from Ian. I said, ‘Ian, what’s up.’ ‘I heard what happened yesterday. You care to tell me what’s going on?’ ‘No I don’t. You heard from him. I got the audio. Go listen to the audio. Your man is wild’n. He’s disrespecting me. He’s challenging me.’ This is what I’m telling Ian. He said, ‘Alright buddy. We want you to sit down for a little bit.’”

Queenzflip Attends Drake’s “Til Death Do Us Part”

Earlier this year, the duo got into a heated spat on social media, and feelings were hurt despite them making up in a matter of hours. Luckily, JT opened up about how the public disagreement impacted her during a recent chat with Keke Palmer and revealed that now, they’re both able to look back at it and laugh.

“I did not want that to happen… When you get to the point of ego…it gets there. You forget to express yourself in a private setting, or you forget to talk like adults,” she explained. “It happened and it was st*pid, and it’s done. It’s over with and now it’s funny to both of us. It’s hilarious to both of us. Now, it’s just a funny thing in time to us.”

JT Opens Up About Clashing With Yung Miami

They’ve yet to reveal exactly what prompted the back and forth, though JT claims that neither of them was in the right. “She should be able to tell her side or how she feel,” she told Palmer. “Because we both were dead a** wrong. It wasn’t no right person in that situation, and I feel like that’s just something that we should talk about as adults.” 

As for Yung Miami, she recently explained why the two of them have opted to focus on their solo careers as of late. No One Had More Fun At ‘The Bear’ Season 3 Premiere Than Tyler The Creator

Tyler The Creator unfortunately had to pull out of headlining Lollapalooza 2024, but he’s still in a Chicago state of mind.

Tyler was all over the red carpet for the season 3 premiere of FX on Hulu’s Windy City-set series The Bear on Tuesday. He posed with stars Ayo Edebiri and Lionel Boyce and took out his phone to snap photos.

But why was Tyler at the premiere in the first place? It’s probably because he enjoys quality TV shows. But also, Boyce, who plays pastry chef Marcus, was previously in Odd Future with Tyler. They also co-created the Adult Swim animated series The Jellies!. The Bear has proven to be slightly more popular.

In The Bear season 3, Carmy (Jeremy Allen White), Sydney (Edebiri) and Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) “do what it takes to elevate The Bear, their beef stand turned fine dining establishment, to the highest level, all while doing their best just to stay in business,” according to the official logline. “It’s a losing battle every single day in the restaurant business. Carmy pushes himself harder than ever, and demands excellence from his crew, who do their best to match his intensity.” The new season premieres on FX on Hulu on June 26 at 9 p.m. EST.

Foolio’s Girlfriend Shares Heart-Wrenching Messages Following His Death

It was just three days ago that 26-year-old Jacksonville, Florida rapper Foolio was pronounced dead. The East Coast star was celebrating his birthday, first at an Airbnb, then at a Holiday Inn. It was reported that the shooting was an “ambush”, and it left three other people injured. Currently, the local police are “working day in and day out” to track down the suspects Chief Lee Bercaw said in a statement. “They’re developing some good leads. We’re working closely with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. We are working with our statewide prosecutor, our federal partners, the ATF and the FBI, and our local prosecutor Susie Lopez. I can guarantee you we are going to be following up and making arrests in that case”.

Unfortunately, all of the authority’s hard work can only lessen the pain so much. Those are essentially the feelings that the rapper’s girlfriend, Mani B, has right now. Since the passing of Foolio, she has been sharing several posts per day on X. Clearly, Mani is in the early part of the grieving stage, as she tries to pick up the pieces and move forward.

A day before this, Mani B also wrote, “Y’all took my boyfriend from me. I hate y’all & I won’t be the only one crying💔”. Even though everyone deals with the loss of a loved one differently, people are still sending her unjustified hate comments. He’s no stranger to having hot takes on the LGBTQIA+ community, and the lyrics certainly reflect that. They include references to gender affirmation surgery, transgender women in competitive sports, and more.

The full version of the track is officially out, though he’s tweaked its title slightly. It’s now called “Letter To The LGBT.” It’s unclear exactly why he changed the title, though it’s possible he was trying to be a bit more inclusive. Either way, it has social media users split.

Who Is Performing At The 2024 BET Awards?

This Sunday (June 30) at 8 p.m., all eyes will be on BET as the 2024 BET Awards take place. We know who’s nominated: That was announced in May, and leading the pack are Drake, Nicki Minaj, J. Cole, Sexyy Red, SZA, Victoria Monét, 21 Savage, Beyoncé, Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, Tyla, and Usher.

The other big piece of the puzzle is who is set to perform during the broadcast. Well, now we know.

Who’s Performing At The 2024 BET Awards?

It was announced today (June 26) that Megan Thee Stallion has joined the lineup, as she’ll perform to open the show.

Meanwhile, added to the lineup two days ago was Will Smith, who is set to perform a new original song.

Also performing during the broadcast will be GloRilla, Ice Spice, Latto, Lauryn Hill and YG Marley, Muni Long, Sexyy Red, Shaboozey, Tyla, and Victoria Monét. Tanner Adell will also perform, on the BET Amplified stage.

Usher, meanwhile, will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement BET Award. Taraji P. Henson is returning to host the show.

Aside from getting ready for the BET Awards, Megan also just had a fresh Amazon Prime Day ad campaign drop, which included a brand-new song made specifically for the commercial.
