The Game & Monica’s Steamy Bathtub Scene In “Letters” Music Video Gets Thumbs Down From Her Son

Like many other starlets stepping into their 40s, R&B singer Monica is proving that age is just a number – and you’re certainly never too old to turn up the heat. She may not be putting her personal love life on blast, but the black-haired beauty did get up close and personal with The Game for her latest music video, which she’s been previewing on Instagram for a few days now. In one teaser posted to her profile, Monica is seen getting cozy with the “Hate It Or Love It” hitmaker in the bathtub, bubbles keeping them (somewhat) modest in front of the camera.

As per Complex, 15-year-old Romelo Montez Hill obviously wasn’t feeling his mom’s post. “Yo what is this,” the teen wrote in the comments, markedly earning a laugh from many sympathetic fans who wouldn’t want to be in the same situation with their mom. Upon seeing the comment, Monica screenshotted it and shared it to her Story, writing “Somebody please tell Lil Daddy take a day off.”

When replying to him under her post, the 42-year-old assured Romelo, “SON… It’s like a movie!! Momma at work.” While Monica is fiending off the awkwardness from her son’s reaction to her video, The Game seems to be enjoying the attention coming his way.

“They said, ‘Make it make sense,’” he wrote in the caption, seemingly referring to the direction he was given on set. “I said, ‘No problem,’” the father of three added, including various receipts of him and Monica boo’d up in his post to back up his confident claims.

Early Days

Monica was always destined to be a singer. At the age of 2, she was already performing at church in her native Georgia. By the time she was 10, she was traveling around the country performing with a gospel choir. A year later, popular record producer Dallas Austin discovered her in Atlanta. Monica has always been vocal about Whitney Houston being her biggest musical influence, so it was no surprise that she was singing “Greatest Love Of All” when Austin offered her a record deal with Rowdy Records.

Monica’s Ascent to Fame

Her partnership with Austin would prove a game changer for the young artist. Monica’s debut album Miss Thang, was released when she was just 14 years old. Miss Thang enjoyed a steady sales rise, eventually going on to sell over three million units. Monica went on to win a Billboard Music Award for her work on the album.

In 1998, Monica attained her first-ever chart-topper on the Billboard Hot 100 with “The Boy Is Mine.” The single, which stayed atop the chart for 13 weeks, was a collaboration with fellow R&B star Brandy. Part of the success of “The Boy Is Mine” was fueled by rumors of a feud between the two singers, who debuted around the same time. Monica’s album of the same name eventually became the highest-selling album of the singer’s career. Today, both the single and the album are now staples in Monica’s illustrious catalog.

With 8 studio albums to her name, Monica remains one of the most hardworking R&B artists around. She has collaborated with a number of notable names, enlisting some of Hip Hop and R&B’s finest artists. In the same vein, she has featured on tracks by many, from Nas and Jermaine Dupri, to Trina, and gospel singer, James Fortune.

Album No. 9 and Versuz

Monica’s upcoming ninth album, Trenches, has been in the works for a couple of years. The title track, which featured Lil Baby, was released to coincide with her appearance on the popular music battle series, Versuz. After multiple years of alleged beef, Monica and Brandy made headlines after being tapped to appear in the famous webcast, Versuz. The episode took place at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, and garnered over 1.4 million views, becoming one of the most watched episodes.

She has stated that her upcoming album Trenches, is all about her personal experiences and the “things that happen in life.” On utilizing her imperfections and transforming them into music, she told ET, “’I’ve always felt that if [the music] is true to what you really feel then you can make other people feel it. How can I make you believe it if I don’t and if I haven’t been there? How can I speak on it? I always make sure that the music embodies the truth of where I’ve been.”

About the show, Monica says, “MoTalk is an outlet for artists, entertainers, musicians, politicians, athletes, and others to share their story, their way! Being interviewed over the years has given me insight that allows me to tell the story respectfully, our truths are often diluted and distorted for the gain of others. MoTalk brings that to an end, and gives creatives back their stories. Discussing hard topics, creating change, and highlighting the greats is key for me.”

Monica Set to Release R&B and Country Albums

monica

It looks like R&B legend, Monica, has been working in the studio. She has confirmed that she will be dropping two new albums soon. At her last show, the “So Gone” singer made the announcement to her fans. Apparently, along with an R&B album, Monica also made a country album. She tells her fans that the albums are named Trenches and Open Roads.

The 42-year-old singer hasn’t released an album since Code Red, which was released in 2015. She dropped a single this year with James Fortune titled “Trusting God.” Last year, Monica put out “Friends” with Ty Dolla $ign. Though she did not reveal when her new albums were dropping, the “Don’t Take It Personal” artist admits she still has to add a few things.

Recently, fans have been admiring Monica’s parenting skills. On her son’s 18th birthday, she gave him $18,000 for him to invest in his business. Monica Stops Fight At Her Concert: Video

Monica does not want you fighting at her shows, especially not when she’s singing a love song. The Grammy-winning icon had to shut down an altercation between two fans at her show on April 1 in D.C. She was in the middle of singing her acclaimed 1995 ballad “Why I Love You So Much” when the spat broke out. It appears that she didn’t realize what was happening at first, but it soon became impossible to ignore. Unfortunately for patrons who were simply there to enjoy the show, Monica had to stop the song to say something to the two women.

After signaling to the DJ to stop the backing track, the singer spoke directly to the concertgoers involved. “Come on now, I’m singing a love song. I ain’t singing ‘Knuck If You Buck,’ baby, calm that shit down.” However, not even Monica could get the two to stop, and their confrontation continued. In an attempt to return peace to the crowd, the R&B icon tried to do one of the women involved a solid. “Somebody take her, get her a drink on me. Calm down,” she said.

Monica Has Feuding Fans Removed

After Monica couldn’t stop the conflict between the fans, she had to tell security to remove them. The other audience members appeared pleased as the mood killers were escorted from the venue. While they left, the singer dedicated a performance of her 2003 single “So Gone” to the women. As it turns out, Monica herself is no stranger to physical altercations. During a now infamous performance of their 1998 single, “The Boy Is Mine,” she and Brandy seemed extremely tense.

It was noticeable at the time, and it seems even more obvious watching it now. Especially considering we know that Monica had punched Brandy in the face directly before the two performed. It’s a piece of pop culture history that is now the stuff of legend. Luckily, the pair have since quashed their beef, and have even gone on to show each other love. What do you think about the altercation in the video? Was it was serious enough to warrant tossing the fans out? Let us know in the comments.
