Playboi Carti Fuels Album Rumors By Reuniting With Metro Boomin

Playboi Carti is the most unpredictable man in hip hop. Which is saying a lot, since Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar exist. Carti is a cut above the other two when it comes to saying one thing in relation to an album and then doing the complete opposite. He has been teasing the release of I AM MUSIC for a few years now, and it doesn’t feel as though we’re any closer to it becoming a reality. Or maybe it will drop over the holidays, like Whole Lotta Red. Playboi Carti delights in confusing his fans, and he did so once again on December 18.

Playboi Carti decided to post new photos of him alongside Metro Boomin on Instagram. The two posed in front of a jeep, while Carti used a hat to cover up his face. There wasn’t any mention of a collab, but Carti did write “Me N Tro 2 Tough Fr.” We all know Playboi Carti is working on a new album, so the decision to link up with Metro Boomin feels very intentional. The rapper knows that it will drum up attention for I AM MUSIC. Playboi Carti and Metro Boomin have proven to be a formidable duo in the past. They worked on “Minute” with NAV and “Type Sh*t” with Future and Travis Scott. Carti was also featured on “Popular,” a song that was scrapped from Metro’s Heroes vs Villains album.

Playboi Carti Posed For Photos With Metro Boomin

Metro Boomin is the latest superstar to be teased as an I AM MUSIC collaborator. Playboi Carti took to Instagram last week to hint at upcoming collaborations with the likes of Lil Baby and Mustard. He posted a screenshot of a text conversation with Lil Baby’s manager, implying that the rappers plan to connect in the near future. Playboi Carti also posted a screenshot of an Instagram DM from Mustard. The man who made “Not Like Us” suggested that he and Carti link up to make some magic in the studio.

Then there’s the aforementioned Kanye West. Metro Boomin announced that West will be producing all over I AM MUSIC during a recent Las Vegas performance. “Shout out to my n**ga Kanye, you know what I’m saying,” the rapper stated. “He over here making beats and sh*t. That album gonna be [wild], I can’t wait to show y’all n**gas.” Playboi Carti previously claimed that he wanted I AM MUSIC to be something he made on his own, he’s clearly changed his mind and gone the collaboration route. At least, it looks that way. Who really knows?

Metro Boomin Completed A Perfect Sequence Two Years Ago Today With “Superhero (Heroes & Villains)”

Metro Boomin had always been a very respectable and exciting producing talent prior to what we know him to be now. To clarify, he is now indeed one of the most in-demand visionaries of the modern rap era. But back in the mid-2010s, he was more a name on the rise. He had some hit records under his belt, with a majority of them being with Future. Their effortless connection on tracks is a big reason why he’s at where he’s at. Overall, there aren’t many better rapper/producer duos than these trap icons. But they boldly decided to take a break from collaborating following the release of Pluto’s 2017 self-titled album.

Things still wound up working out for both of them, though. Fewtch was still making wavy and ignorant bangers, and Metro was honing in on creating a more recognizable sound. However, everyone wanted to see them get back in the lab together at some point soon. Well, it took about five years too long, as they finally linked back up on Metro’s sophomore effort, HEROES & VILLAINS. Fans wouldn’t have to wait until the backend of the tracklist to hear them again, as Future took us back in time to his dominant 2015 run with a spectacular and fiery performance on the second cut, “Superhero” with Chris Brown. It was a ceremonious event and remains to be one for us every time we revisit this timeless track. Making it even more special is how well it capitalized on the grand and operatic opener “On Time.” It’s one of the best back-to-back sequences in hip-hop in years on a top-tier trap record.

Metro Boomin Speaks on ‘Personal Issue’ with Drake: ‘Really Hurt Me’

Future and Metro Boomin Announces Two New Albums in 'We Don't Trust You' Trailer

Metro Boomin is pulling the curtains back on his beef with Drake. In the GQ Men of the Year issue, Metro revealed the issue did not involve a woman.

“Me and [Drake], we had a personal issue, and for the record, not over no girl or nothing silly like that,” Metro said according to Elliott Wilson. “It was a personal issue that really hurt me and disappointed me.

“But if you take all the rap entertainment out of it, it’s like, have you ever been real cool with somebody, and y’all fell out over something?,” he continued. “It happens every day. It’s just regular shit. This just happens to have an audience.”

He also revealed that the two albums created with Future, We Don’t Trust You and We Still Don’t Trust You, were not made with Drake in mind. “People really think we sat for two years, making two albums [to be] like, Yo, fuck this dude. What kind of shit is that?

Metro Boomin Explains Why He “Regrets” Dissing Drake On Twitter

Metro Boomin and Future have the honor of being two of GQ‘s men of the year. They will be featured in an upcoming profile, and hip hop personality Elliott Wilson shared excerpts of their interview on Nov. 20. The interview revolved around the Drake and Kendrick Lamar feud that both men played a role in. Metro Boomin, in particular, made his disdain for Drake clearing during the peak of the feud. Now, however, the producer is singing a different tune. He told GQ that he regretted the way the whole thing went down, and felt his actions were out of character.

Metro Boomin admits he was frustrated by the fact Drake dissed him on record. Metro isn’t a rapper, obviously, so he felt compelled to respond via social media. This was the decision he came to regret. “Now I did have my moment online, which I do regret,” he explained. “I should have been stronger than that. That was out of character for me.” Metro Boomin backpedaled, somewhat, and said that he didn’t have a musical voice the same way Drake did, so social media was the next best option. At least, he felt it was at the time. “So you’re going to just sh*t on me on all of these songs,” he told GQ. “I’m not going to get in the booth, so I’m finna tweet at you.”

Metro Boomin Claimed Drake “Really Hurt” Him

It’s worth noting that Metro Boomin did use music to get back at Drake during the feud. Pretty effectively, we might add. The “BBL Drizzy” instrumental went viral on social media, and even led to a challenge in which fans hopped on the beat to diss the 6 God. We digress. Metro Boomin said that the whole conflict between him and Drake stemmed from a personal slight. It was not over a woman, as some fans have theorized. “We had a personal issue, and for the record, not over no girl or nothing silly like that,” Metro Boomin asserted. “It was a personal issue that really hurt me and disappointed me.”

Metro also shot down the notion that him and Future based their collab albums around their shared disdain for Drake. He mocked the notion that they would spend time and money just to hate on another artist. “That’s some serious hate,” he remarked. Future also gave his two cents on the Drake feud during the GQ interview. He spent more time talking about Kendrick Lamar’s “Like That” verse, though, and the ways in which he felt slighted not being mentioned as part of the “Big Three.”

Future Reveals Why Kendrick Lamar’s “Like That” Verse Frustrated Him

Future has had quite a year. He dropped three stellar albums in ten months, two of which were made in collaboration with Metro Boomin. The duo will be featured in an upcoming GQ interview to discuss their historic output. There were candid discussions about the process of creating together, but the biggest takeaway from the interview was the way Future’s felt toward Kendrick Lamar. Dot’s verse on “Like That” catapulted the song to number one, but Pluto felt he was slighted by a verse that openly dissed Drake and J. Cole.

It may sound like an odd reason to be angry, but Future remains steadfast. He ultimately felt that K. Dot excluded him from discussion of the “Big Three” on his own song. “He said ‘Big Three’ on my song,” the rapper noted. “I’m supposed to be the one who gets mad; I’m still confused about that.” Future was also frustrated by the fact that nobody, peers or fans, asked how he felt about being excluded from the “Big Three” discussion. He perceived this, in some ways, as being more offensive that the direct disses that Drake and Cole received. “Nobody cares about what I think,” Future added. “That’s what was so f*cked up about the sh*t.”

Future Is Still “Confused” About His Big Three Exclusion

Future holds Kendrick Lamar responsible for not taking him seriously on his own song. He points to the other so-called members of the “Big Three,” however, when it came to their responses. Future believed he had far more reason to be offended by Dot’s verse than Drizzy or Cole. “I ain’t part of this Big Three, I’m nobody on my song, man,” he told GQ. “If I didn’t get mad, nobody should have gotten mad! Like, why is everybody mad when he was talking about me on my song?” The part of the interview that has confused most fans, though, is when Future claimed to be unaware of the brewing “Big Three” beef.

The rapper claimed to be out of the loop on the tension brewing between Kendrick Lamar, Drake and J. Cole. “There was a beef?,” he recalled thinking. “I didn’t even know there was a beef. I didn’t even know they had nothing going on. Ain’t never participated in rap battles, man…” Fans have noted that there was already tension between Future, Metro Boomin and Drake, so the notion of Pluto being blind to what was going on prior to “Like That” is a bit convenient. Either way, it sounds like the fallout from the beef, and K. Dot’s verse, is still being felt.

The Report That Claimed Future And Drake Squashed Their Beef Is False, According To Akademiks

Fans of Drake and Future’s reconciliation celebration parade was short-lived. According to Uproxx’s Elliott Wilson the former collaborators mended their friendship.

During The Bigger Picture‘s latest episode (viewable here), Wilson claimed that the hip-hop heavy weights’ feud was official over. “I have it on good authority that Drake and Future have at least gotten on the phone and resolved their differences,” he said.

However, shortly after HipHopDX posted the confessional clip (viewable here), another industry figure came out to refute the remark. On his own platform, online commentator Akademiks shared insider knowledge to the contrary. “I’ve spoken to extremely credible sources on both sides, and Drake and Future have not been on the phone,” he said (viewable here courtesy of NFR Podcast).

Both Wilson and Akademiks have deep ties to rappers and their close affiliates. So, this has quickly become a case of he said, he said. Users across X (formerly Twitter), have expressed their frustration with these opposing recounts.

“See now this is what we aren’t gonna do, have two different stories over and over again. We need answers,” wrote one user.

Others have begun to question why Drake and Future were at odds to begin with. Hip-hop fans can understand Drake’s disdain for Metro Boomin, Kendrick Lamar, and Asap Rocky. But the supposed tension between Drake and Future has some stumped.

Metro Boomin Is Being Sued For Sexual Battery By A Woman Who Says He Referenced The 2016 Incident In A Song

Metro Boomin has been sued for battery and sexual battery in Los Angeles court by a woman who says he raped her in 2016. According to Billboard, Vanessa LeMaistre, the plaintiff, says that she visited Metro’s studio in September, where she took a shot of alcohol and a Xanax pill and blacked out; after which, the producer allegedly took advantage of her. After the incident, she says learned she was pregnant, getting an abortion in November that year.

She also claims that the incident was referenced on Metro’s 2017 collaborative album Without Warning with 21 Savage and Offset on the song “Rap Saved Me.” On the chorus of the track, the two rappers recite the lines: “She took a Xanny, then she fainted / I’m from the gutter, ain’t no changing / From the gutter, rap saved me / She drive me crazy, have my baby.” Although Metro does not rap on the song and the authorship of those lines is unclear, LeMaistre says that hearing the raps “caused further trauma.”

Metro denied the accusations through his attorney, Lawrence Hinkle II, who told Billboard, “These are false accusations. Mr. Wayne refused to pay her months ago, and he refuses to pay her now. Mr. Wayne will defend himself in court. He will file a claim for malicious prosecution once he prevails.”

The producer was involved in a minor controversy earlier this year after social media users resurfaced questionable tweets from his account amid his ongoing feud with Drake.

Metro Boomin Sued For Allegedly Assaulting And Impregnating Woman

Metro Boomin became the subject of horrific allegations on October 29. The producer was sued by a woman named Vanessa LeMaistre, who alleges that he sexually assaulted her during a studio session in 2016. In the lawsuit, which was obtained by TMZ, LeMaistre alleges that Metro Boomin took advantage of her during a particularly emotional time in her life. Furthermore, she claims that became pregnant as a result of the producer’s alleged assault.

LeMaistre claims that she met Metro Boomin shortly after the death of her 9-month old son. The two hit it off in Las Vegas, and the producer subsequently invited her to his L.A. Studio in September 2016. Once there, however, LeMaistre claims that Metro Boomin was abusing codeine. She partook, claiming that she took half a Xanax pill and a shot of alcohol. LeMaistre went on to state that she blacked out on a couch, and woke up in a bed. She alleges that Metro was on top of her and forcibly performing oral sex on her. When she regained consciousness the following morning, she alleges that the producer told her to leave.

Metro Boomin Allegedly Invited The Victim To His Studio

Vanessa LeMaistre claims that she later learned that she was pregnant. She claims that the pregnancy had to have resulted from the alleged Metro Boomin assault because she hadn’t had sex with anybody else. LeMaistre claims to have terminated the pregnancy two months later. The allegations don’t stop there, however. The alleged victim believes that Metro Boomin referenced the incident in a song. The song “Rap Saved Me” featured a verse from Metro in which he detailed events eerily similar to these allegations. “She took a Xanny / Then she fainted,” he spit. “I’m from the gutter … ain’t no changing.”

LeMaistre is seeking unspecified damages and punitive damages. Metro Boomin has been involved in multiple lawsuits over the last year. All of them have been music related. The producer was sued by the Barry White estate over an uncleared sample in 2023. Then, the company behind Metro’s “BBL Drizzy” was sued by multiple record labels. LeMaistre’s lawsuit marks the first time, however, that the producer has been formally accused of assault. Metro has yet to respond to these allegations.

Young Thug Attempts To End The Feud Between His ‘Brothers’ Drake, Future, And Metro Boomin From Behind Bars

From a fiery “tweeters and deleters” call out from Drake to Metro Boomin’s chart-topping response, the pair’s animosity curated an eventful summer for rap fans. Although hip-hop heads enjoyed seeing the back-and-forth spat between the two eventually others joined the feud (both willingly and unintentionally).

Now, Young Thug has inserted himself as the voice of reason. Yesterday (October 18), the “Dope Boy” rapper took to X (formerly Twitter) to call for an end to the rap war. Despite having his hands fuel with the YSL RICO trial, Young Thug penned a message for unity from behind bars.

“Drake, Future, and Metro Boomin we all bruddas,” he wrote. “Music ain’t the same without us collabin.”

Fans chimed in with mixed reactions. Many praised Young Thug for stepping in to mend their relationships.

“Goat squashing beefs behind bars the streets need him,” wrote one user.

“Thugger has spoken! Future and Drake can’t beef. They have too much chemistry and too many hits. The culture is better when they collab,” penned another.

On the other hand, many supporters believe that their feud has gone too far after Metro Boomin accused Drake of being a pedophile.

Still, Future seems to agree with Young Thug’s sentiments. Followers noticed that shortly after the message was uploaded, Future reposted Young Thug’s message. As of today, it doesn’t appear that Metro Boomin or Drake have responded to the Young Thug’s post.
