Last week, Men’s Health Hosted a panel focusing on health and awareness in the heart of Brooklyn NYC. The panel, Hip Hop Health: Mind Over Music featured Nick cannon, Doug E. Fresh, Dr. Olajide Williams, and Lute. The panel was moderated by Keith Nelson, Jr and covered a range of topics from mental health to why we all need therapy. In this candid chat, these men discussed hip hop’s relationship with mental health and the silent battles they’ve had to overcome over the years.

Rapper Doug E Fresh spoke about braggadocious lyrics and the results of  speaking things into existence. The Harlem legend spoke so eloquently about mental health and taking the timeout for a ‘good cry’. He stated, “Hip Hop has the power of talking things into existence…When 50 Cent talked about Get Rich or Die Trying, He got rich! You know the album Paid in Full with Eric B and Rakim…They got paid and full! Now here’s the sad part is when you hear Ready to Die and what happened after that, hip hop has always been the power of talking things into existence. This is my favorite song from Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five it’s called Super Rappin’. Doug E then commenced to rap:

To the hip hop, a hip hop, a-don’t stop
A-don’t stop that body rock
A-just get up out your seat and get ready to clap
Because-a Melle Mel is starting to rap
And ever since I talked at my very first party
I felt I could make myself somebody
It was something in my heart from the very start
I could see myself at the top of the chart
Rapping on the mic, making cold, cold cash
With a jockey spinnin’ for me called DJ Flash
Signing autographs for the the young and old
Wearing big time silver and solid gold
My name on the radio and in the magazine
My picture on the TV screen
It’s ain’t like that yet, but, huh, you’ll see
I got potential and you will agree
I’m coming up and I got a step above the rest
‘Cause I’m using that ladder they call success
You say a-one, two, three, four, five, six, seven
Rap like hell and make it sound like heaven
A seven, six, five, four, three, two, one
A-come on, Rahiem, come and get some

He continued, “You have the ability to talk things into existence, good or bad.”

Screen Shot 2023 04 06 at 9.33.42 AM

Rapper Latto says she’s considering taking a mental health break from social media because commenters make her feel self-conscious about her looks.

The “Big Energy” rapper opened up social media heightens her insecurities in the premiere episode of her Apple Music show “777 Radio.”

The 24-year-old Rap Game star told her guest Chloe Bailey that internet trolls say she looks like an “old white woman.”

“It’s all because of social media,” Latto told Chloe. “It just, like you said, heightens your insecurities. I never thought I looked old until I read it on the internet. Now I just think I look like an old white woman.”

“You don’t look old,” Chloe told Latto. “That’s crazy!”

Latto, real name Alyssa Michelle Stephens, was born to a white mother and Black father.

She said trolls made fun of the way she sat in her chair at last year’s VMAs. Latto explained she was trying to avoid comments about her attire because she was wearing a corset. But when she went online, she saw people making lewd comments about her body.

“Next thing you know, I see things going around, ‘She looked like she about to have sex with the chair,’” she quoted one troll.

“I’m like, ‘Now, hold on. Wait a minute. I can’t just sit down?’ I’m like, ‘Now, I’m not even gyrating on the chair. I am sitting like this.’ I’m sitting like this looking forward.”

Lil Uzi Vert Supports JT On Her Therapy Journey

As hard as it may seem to believe at times, most celebrities truly are just like us. In fact, many of those in the limelight who struggle with mental health issues to begin with find their conditions only exacerbated by the constant pressure that comes along with their career. While some opt to keep their problems to themselves, others often use social media to share life updates and be vulnerable with their fans, simultaneously encouraging them to do the same. JT of City Girls fame did just that on Twitter, sharing some details about how she plans to improve her mental health in the coming months.

“Super excited about starting therapy,” she wrote in a tweet last Saturday (March 25). “I encourage you all to do the same🤞🏾!” the “Twerkulator” hitmaker added, making it abundantly clear that there’s no shame in talking to someone about your feelings. While JT didn’t explicitly share what she wants to get off her chest in any upcoming appointments, her life before fame came with plenty of rough moments that are likely still weighing on her. Additionally, her newfound place in the spotlight beside Yung Miami certainly comes with its own downsides for the partners in rhyme.

JT Confirms Her Plans for Therapy

After the 30-year-old shared her excitement about beginning her therapy adventure, countless followers showered her with praise. “It’s literally necessary for everybody, [I don’t know] why people be acting like they don’t need it,” one user pointed out in JT’s replies. Another person chimed in, “I already do, for two years now. It’s life-changing [for real] sis. I pray your experience is as well.” Aside from the fan love, the rap diva also has a strong support system in the form of her long-term partner, Lil Uzi Vert.

The Philadelphia native spoke with TMZ earlier this week, at which time they asked their thoughts on JT seeking mental health help. Uzi sounds to be in full support of their girlfriend and even noted that they’ll be in attendance at some sessions to help out and perhaps work through issues of their own. As for anyone else considering therapy? The “Just Wana Rock” hitmaker thinks there’s no time like the present to work on yourself. “You just gotta do it,” he advised anyone watching. “You just have to really embrace yourself and love yourself.” Check out everything LUV had to say in the video below and tap back in later for more pop culture news updates.

Dr. Christian Anthony Mathis— aka Trick Trick has offered a huge monetary reward to anyone who can help identify the attacker of an 80-year-old woman in his hometown of Detroit. Trick says that the suspect demanded money and when the woman said she didn’t have any money—he sexually assaulted her.

On Monday (March 27), the Detroit rapper took to Instagram to explain he will not stand for crime against his fellow Detroiters. His post came after a Metro Detroit News Instagram post that detailed the vicious attack on an elderly woman after her home was broken into.

Trick Trick is no stranger to policing the city of Detroit. His infamous ‘No fly zone’ was created to let other rappers know they needed a pass to perform in Detroit and they also need to work with Detroit artists or they can not perform in his city. The Detroit gatekeeper had no problem letting the alleged criminal know that he had a bone to pick with them, and that they should “count their days.”

“Whoever this NI66XX IS, COUNT YOUR DAYS YOU DEMON!!! WE ON YASS!!!! I GOT A BAG FOR ANY INFORMATION LEADING TO THE CAPTURE AND HANDLING OF THIS WASTEofFLESH!!! PUBLIC ENEMY NUMBER 1!!!” he wrote.

We definitely need to protect our elderly at all costs. Salute to Trick Trick!

Amanda Bynes’ Psychiatric Hold Extended, Actress Refuses To Speak With Friends & Family

The rumours surrounding Jonathan Majors have been making up most of the headlines over the past few hours. However, other updates on our favourite celebrities continue to pour in. For the past week, Amanda Bynes fans have been expressing great concern for the 36-year-old. It comes after a psychotic break found her wandering the streets of downtown Los Angeles naked. At the time, she was brought to the police for further evaluation. They accordingly opted to place the embattled starlet under a psychiatric hold.

On Sunday (March 26), TMZ broke the news that the Hairspray actress will be spending an extended period of time at her mental health facility. Most similar situations find patients staying in custody for roughly 72 hours. At this time, Bynes is planning to stay for at least one more week, though that may later be extended once again. Sources reveal that she hasn’t been in contact with any of those who are closest to her. It remains unclear if she remembers the time she spent wandering through LA without clothing or company.

As authorities worked to figure out how Bynes got to be in such a state, they realized she’s seemingly been living on the streets for some time. Her vehicle was previously towed in Long Beach – located about 40 miles from her home – on March 15. Friends and family believe that she was using public transportation and possibly even hitchhiking.

When her car was taken, sources say there was no gas in the tank. It’s also worth noting that the California native didn’t have a cell phone on her during her LA escapades. Apparently, leaving her house and walking for miles isn’t a strange occurrence for Amanda Bynes. Those with a strong understanding of her condition believe she may have been manic when she was seen earlier this month. Her ex, Paul Michael, says he hasn’t lived with the multi-talent since January, and she was apparently last seen at her apartment just a few days before her vehicle was towed. Make sure to keep AB in your thoughts, and check back later for more pop culture news updates.

Screen Shot 2023 03 24 at 1.08.38 AM

Four years ago Beyoncé partnered with Adidas for the relaunch of her athletic/leisure line Ivy Park for an icon celebrity drop that had the girls (and guys) in a frenzy.

Now, the partnership has come to a bitter end.
The Hollywood Reporter reports:

Beyoncé and Adidas are breaking up.

A source close to the situation tells The Hollywood Reporter that the Grammy-winning entrepreneur and the German lifestyle brand have mutually agreed to part ways.

In 2018, Beyoncé entered a creative partnership with Adidas, where she relaunched her Ivy Park activewear line and also developed new footwear and apparel for the brand.

But there has apparently been major creative differences between Ivy Park and Adidas, and Beyoncé is excitedly looking to reclaim her brand, chart her own path and maintain creative freedom.’
Will the Queen Bey do it again?

Amanda Bynes Update: Conservatorship Won’t Be Reinstated Amid Psychotic Episode, Parents Say

After shocking the world with yesterday’s news, TMZ‘s sources are back with an update on Amanda Bynes. On Sunday (March 20), the former child star was found wandering around Los Angeles completely nude, reportedly coming down from a psychotic break. During her time out in the city, she apparently flagged down a car passing by, sharing her tragic story with the driver. After calling 911, the actress went to a nearby police station. A mental health team felt that a 5150 psychiatric hold is the best course of action in this situation.

Typically, someone on a 5150 would be in custody for 72 hours, though the timeline can be extended. As of yesterday, insiders confirmed that Bynes will likely spend a few days getting the help she needs for her struggles. Up until just last year, the 36-year-old was actually under a conservatorship, similar to Britney Spears, though she and her family felt as though she had made enough progress to regain control of her life in 2022.

Future Plans for Amanda Bynes

Upon hearing the latest headlines about Bynes, concerned fans are wondering if her parents, Lynn and Rick, will be reinstating the previous court agreement. According to a source with direct knowledge who spoke with TMZ, there are no such plans at this time. The starlet’s parents are “deeply concerned about their daughter’s well-being and health,” but don’t want to take extreme measures just yet. From the sounds of things, her willingness to contact authorities on her own after coming back to herself naked in downtown Los Angeles proves that she’s self-aware enough to maintain her freedom for now.

Since her conservatorship came to an end, Amanda Bynes has mostly been taking positive steps forward in her life. She’s been living independently in her own home and has even been pursuing a new career as a cosmetologist by taking classes at a school in her area. Fingers crossed we see the Californian back on her feet and in control of her life in no time. Make sure to check back later for more pop culture news updates.

Amanda Bynes Found Naked & Alone In Downtown Los Angeles, Placed On Psychiatric Hold

Throughout the ’90s and 2000s, Amanda Bynes was one of the most beloved young women working in TV and film. She got her start thanks to programs like The Amanda Show and All That. However, it was her work on films like What a Girl Wants and She’s the Man that really catapulted her toward the heights of contemporaries like Lindsay Lohan. Arguably her biggest role came in 2007 with Hairspray, though she also appeared in Sydney White and Easy A afterward. Unfortunately for fans, the 36-year-old’s acting resume hasn’t grown since 2010.

More recent years have found her enduring serious mental health struggles while navigating toxic relationships. Much like Britney Spears, she was placed under a nine-year-long conservatorship by her mother after receiving a bipolar diagnosis. That arrangement was finally terminated in 2022. As TMZ notes, Bynes appeared to be making progress and doing better in wake of the legal arrangement ending. Unfortunately, her latest antics are undeniably causing serious concern.

Amanda Bynes’ Mental Health Struggles Sadly Continue

On Sunday (March 19) morning, the former child star was seen wandering through downtown Los Angeles. This in itself isn’t abnormal, though the fact that Bynes wasn’t wearing any clothing is certainly raising eyebrows. She reportedly waved down a passing car, informing the driver that she was coming down from a psychotic episode. Afterward, 911 was called. Law enforcement sources say the actress was taken to a nearby station, where the mental health team on site determined a 5150 psych hold was the appropriate way to handle the situation.

The California native reportedly remains unharmed after her nude adventure – apparently a very lucky thing considering the area of LA she was found in. A source close to Amanda Bynes says that she remains in the hospital at this time, and will likely remain there for several days. Typical psychiatric holds last 72 hours, though that time period can be extended depending on the circumstances. Make sure to keep her in your thoughts, and check back later for more pop culture news updates.
