Eminem Performs “Houdini” For The First Time At Massive Detroit Concert

Eminem popped out for a surprise performance at the “Live From Detroit: The Concert At Michigan Central” show on Thursday (June 6). Moreover, the event celebrated the reopening and renovation of the train station, which the public could access on Friday (June 7) after over 30 years without a train leaving that station. The Ford Motor Company had acquired it six years ago, and Marshall Mathers and his longtime manager Paul Rosenberg executive-produced this concert. Other performers and guests included Michigan’s own Big Sean, Slum Village, Illa J, Diana Ross, and more, plus non-313 musicians such as Common and Fantasia.

In fact, a taped replay of “Live From Detroit: The Concert At Michigan Central” will air tonight (Sunday, June 9) at 7PM EST on NBC if you’re curious to check it out. However, if you’re just interested in Eminem’s set, you can find the full event-closing surprise set down below. He performed his new single “Houdini” live for the first time to kick things off, and also spit through “Welcome 2 Detroit” (obviously) and “Not Afraid.” Not only that, but Slim Shady also invited Jelly Roll for a passionate and grand rendition of “Sing For The Moment,” which was a great moment to witness that the crowd and the city seemed to love.

Eminem Performs At Michigan Central’s Reopening Event

Of course, there are plenty of reasons as to why “Houdini” is getting so much hype right now, and some are more positive than others. For example, Eminem’s new single is now the rap song with the second-highest first week debut on Spotify of all time. It’s an ironic accolade considering that this record remained for about six years before Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” took the top spot last month. Now, the “Superman” spitter’s new track broke that record for the second time in a month, and while he didn’t top K.Dot, it’s still very impressive to witness.

Meanwhile, other fans and detractors still think that Eminem is too corny or unimpressive with “Houdini,” but the overall discussion is much more deep and positive than what we’ve been used to in past years. Even his family comically mocked his exaggerated disses towards them, so there’s a strong push and pull here. But from what this Detroit crowd indicated, The Death Of Slim Shady couldn’t come sooner. We’ll see what that new album holds and what more great moments it could bring about.

Lil Wayne Reveals The Real Reason He Doesn’t Perform “Mona Lisa” Featuring Kendrick Lamar

Lil Wayne has an absolutely stacked catalog that spans over three decades, with so many hits that his concerts are always going to miss at least a couple of classics. But a recently surfaced clip from one of his concerts sees him give an explanation for why he doesn’t perform one of his biggest hits of the late 2010s: 2018’s “Mona Lisa” featuring Kendrick Lamar off of Tha Carter V. Of course, a lot of people might assume that this might be because of the K.Dot and Drake beef that reached its peak this year, given Weezy’s bond with Drizzy through Young Money. However, even though he has reason to obfuscate if this is really the case, his actual explanation for this omission seems much more reasonable and honest.

“People in front, listen, listen,” Lil Wayne’s remarks not performing “Mona Lisa” featuring Kendrick Lamar began. “This is the second time I seen this within my last three shows. Somebody had a sign that said to do ‘Mona Lisa.’ I’m not sure if that means you, if y’all said y’all real Lil Wayne.

Lil Wayne Explains Why He Doesn’t Perform “Mona Lisa” Featuring Kendrick Lamar: Watch

“So if you real Lil Wayne fans, do you know I don’t know the lyrics to my s**t?” Lil Wayne asked the crowd. “Do you know how hard that f***ing song is, girl? You know what I mean? I don’t like to rap the words, but I’m going to learn that s**t. I’m going to learn it. I’m going to learn. I got you. This is for her and for the ‘Mona Lisa’ lovers. But this ain’t ‘Mona Lisa,’ but this for y’all. Let’s go,” he concluded before playing another song.

“That moment in the studio with Wayne, I never told Wayne this,” Kendrick Lamar had said of Lil Wayne a couple of years ago. “That changed my perspective on work ethic. These not no motherf***ing ‘fly by night’ verses. These is set right there and thought out right in front of your face. And he’s excited about it, and he’s loving music, and he loves what he’s doing. That gave me a whole other appreciation, and we took that same intensity and work ethic, and applied it moving forward.”

Black Thought, Common & Freeway Spit Alongside Method Man & Redman For “4,3,2,1” Remix

“4,3,2,1” is a classic hip-hop posse cut from LL Cool J, Canibus, DMX, and Master P from 1997’s Phenomenon by LL which clearly still lives on. Moreover, a slew of amazing MCs remixed the cut at The Roots’ Picnic Festival during J.Period’s Live Mixtape set on Saturday (June 1). Black Thought, Common, Method Man, Redman, and Freeway linked up to give this instrumental a new rendition, and fans seemed pretty impressed both online and in the live setting. Black Thought in particular spit over a lot of classic instrumentals as well, including Wu-Tang Clan’s “Protect Ya Neck,” Raekwon’s “Ice Cream,” and GZA’s “Shadowboxin’.”

“30 Years Ago Today w. 6 one way tickets in hand we took a risk and left our beloved City Of Philadelphia for the shaky shores of Londontown — specifically Camden — the East Village Of London,” Questlove wrote of The Roots’ Picnic Festival and this particular moment with Black Thought and company. “2 weeks into our stay we did our first festival (a last min side stage add on to [Glastonbury]) and we promised hook or crook we would bring a festival to our city.

Questlove’s Post Thanking Black Thought, Common, Method Man, Redman & Freeway For Their Amazing “4,3,2,1” Rendition

“In 2008 that dream came true when the first @rootspicnic came to fruition,” Questlove continued, later adding a comment in his caption about this Black Thought, Common, Freeway, Method Man, and Freeway link-up. “We wanted quality acts & a variety (some older names, some newer names, some right up your alley and especially the “wtf!!!?” variety——-keeps y’all guessing)——I’m especially proud of our ability to pick em when they are brand new. […] This moment was epic: @methodmanofficial @redmangilla @phillyfreeway @common @jperiodbk @stroelliot & their fearless leader @blackthought making it look so easy. Thank You Philadelphia.”

Full Live Mixtape Set At The Roots’ Picnic Festival 2024

You can see the full “4,3,2,1” remix at around the 13-minute and 45-second mark of the video above.

Meanwhile, hopefully this showing from Black Thought and company went better for Method Man crowd-wise compared to how disappointed he was with Summer Jam’s crowd recently. “Not our crowd at all..” he wrote of the event. “Thanks again, New York and the whole tri-state (that showed up to the event) plus Pete and Ebro I got love for you guys, but never again.. at this point the generation gap is just too wide for me.. #nevercomingback.”

Sexyy Red Electrifies With The Roots Picnic Performance, Introduces Her Dance Team

Sexyy Red is still on a dominant run, giving fans yet another energetic performance at The Roots’ Picnic Festival in Philadelphia over the weekend. Moreover, she ran through her steadily-building catalog of raunchy bangers, and the crowd seemed to be having a great time all throughout. In fact, one of the clips down below shows folks dancing to the music while very far away from the stage. In addition, the “U My Everything” MC showed off her dance crew, “Da Sexettz,” in an Instagram clip linked down below as well. All we can hope for is that she sustains this hype, work ethic, and lightning-in-a-bottle quality far beyond what her haters attempt to reach as far as her success.

Furthermore, it’s been a very eventful year for Sexyy Red so far on all fronts, and this continues her breakout 2023 in full swing. But things haven’t just been busy on the music release front: there have also been plenty of viral moments and antics to enjoy, discuss, or raise eyebrows at. One recent example was when she gave money to a homeless man, which of course prompted some debate over the sensitivity of recording and flaunting this. Many seemed to conclude that a good deed is a good deed, and after all, we have seen celebrities actually miss the mark in this regard.

Sexyy Red Performs At The Roots Picnic Festival 2024

In addition, there’s a big possibility that Sexyy Red has even more on the way for 2024. For example, Lil baby recently teased an upcoming collab with her that sounds a little more mellow and chilly than their previous link-up off this year’s In Sexyy We Trust, “Lick Me.” As for the Atlanta MC, he has a big comeback to make for fans who expressed disappointment with his 2022 album, It’s Only Me. Maybe this is what starts to fuel that fire again, but only time will tell.

Big Sexyy Introduces “Da Sexettz”

Meanwhile, even the WWE can’t deny Sexyy Red’s greatness, as she recently joined the NXT event for the women’s category. It was a really cool moment to see, as there are always notable pop culture crossovers that can not necessarily elevate, but definitely present an artist’s profile as more versatile. If nothing else, we’re sure it was a big and well-earned check. We’ll see what else the Hood Hottest Princess gifts us in 2024, and what other performances get the crowd rowdy.

Remy Ma Performs For Seemingly Small Crowd At DC Pride, Fans React

Remy Ma often deals with a lot of trolls online, but when the actual narrative behind the trolling is unclear, it just makes for a messy situation overall. Moreover, a clip recently surfaced of her performing for a seemingly small crowd at DC Pride, which Barbz had a field day with. They clowned the femcee for the show’s size, her performance energy, or just chose to bring up the Nicki Minaj beef once more for good measure. However, one commenter in particular called this a misrepresentative interpretation, as they claimed this was apparently a pre-show event before her actual larger-scale performance for around 5,000 people.

Furthermore, at least this is a bit of a better look for Remy Ma compared to some other recent headlines that have raised eyebrows her way. For those unaware, she received accusations of cheating on Papoose with Eazy The Block Captain, a younger battle rapper. These allegations actually made it so deep into the battle rap space, and their particular lane within it, that Cassidy recently dissed Eazy on a new track. It wasn’t just an “I’m better than you” argument, but one that also brought up this alleged infidelity as an attack.

Remy Ma’s DC Pride… Performance? Pre-Show? See Comments For Fans’ Reactions & Debates

Not only that, but rumors that the two have split based on Remy Ma’s body language at Papoose’s birthday event haven’t really helped this narrative diminish. Either way, there’s a lot of drama going on right now in her life, which definitely has been the case for a couple of years now. It’s hard to not think about the Nicki Minaj beef as a leading cause of that, but it would be overly reductive to solely attribute this to that conflict. After all, there are plenty of ways in which careers don’t necessarily become less impactful, but can see a smaller or more measured reception.

In fact, given that Nicki Minaj had previously vaguely hinted at burying the hatchet with Remy Ma, maybe that’s not an important factor anymore. Still, we’ll see whether there are more widely spread clips of this DC Pride performance in the near future that could prove or disprove the current narrative. She’ll likely have some more releases, performances, and events to look forward to in 2024. Let’s see if they fill up more.

North West Is The New King Of Pride Rock After Impassioned Performance Of This “Lion King” Soundtrack Classic: Watch

North West is continuing to soak up more musical experience as the weeks fly by. She has been picking up knowledge from the patriarch, especially during the chaotic VULTURES era. Those contributions came on “TALKING,” one of its promo cuts. She turned in some pretty memorable vocals, perhaps the best out of the rest of the guests. Additionally, Miss Westie flashed her directorial skills by shooting a third music video for the song. Furthermore, it has been reported that her and pops are working on crafting her debut album Elementary School Dropout. But instead of taking time away from other opportunities, she is looking to improve in any way she can. North West recently did so with a dazzling Lion King showing.

According to TMZ, the eldest child portrayed the role of Simba from one of Disney’s greatest films as part of a 30th Anniversary concert. The Lion King will officially turn three decades old June 24 and to help commemorate it, Disney created this two-day event. It kicked off yesterday (May 24) and will run through tonight at the famous Hollywood Bowl amphitheater in Los Angeles. Furthermore, it is serving double duty as a way to promote the live action film Mufasa: The Lion King out on December 20.

North West Is Kanye & Kim’s Simba

North West was brought on stage to perform “I Just Can’t Wait To Be King,” which was one of many classics played from the award-winning soundtrack. Kanye, Kim, Kris Jenner, Kourtney Kardashian, as well as Travis Barker were all in attendance. The proud Mufasa was seen snapping pictures and taking videos of Simba in what surely was a “circle of life” moment.

Lauryn Hill & Her Son YG Marley Perform Together On “Jimmy Fallon”

One of hip-hop and R&B’s greatest to ever do it hit one of the most recognized late night talk show stages the other evening. Lauryn Hill performed one of her best works of her historic career on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. According to Yahoo Entertainment, the Newark, New Jersey native went on to play “Ex-Factor,” from her widely celebrated The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. However, she was not the only musical act under the bright lights. Her son and paternal grandson of reggae icon Bob Marley, YG Marley, was also a part of the incredible show.

We do not cover YG Marley here on the site, but he has had quite the start to his musical journey. His debut single, “Praise Jah Moonlight,” dropped in December of last year and it has become immensely popular. The California native sampled Bob Marley & The Wailers’ record “Crisis” on this song and it even features assistance from Lauryn Hill as well. YG performed that, as well as equally fantastic “Survival,” which just dropped yesterday (May 14).

Flo Milli Ends Performance After Fans Hurl Objects At Her, Gunna Shows Support

Flo Milli’s star power is only continuing to grow each week. After dropping quite the enjoyable listen with Fine Ho, Stay in March, the Mobile, Alabama native is now getting incredible opportunities. One of which includes being an opening act for Georgia superstar Gunna during his new Bittersweet Tour. This North American expedition is for the “fukumean” artist’s forthcoming May 10 record ONE OF WUN. It kicked off last night in Columbus, Ohio, according to HipHopDX, but it got off to a rough start. A video has been making the rounds online of a perpetrator having an object thrown while Flo Milli was performing her set.

She was caught off guard, as anyone would be, saying, “B****, who is throwing s*** at?” In the video below, it appears to show who heaved what seems to be a shoe. It was a young adult white male, which set some people off in the comments section of The Neighborhood Talk‘s post. “Something about a WHITE MAN throwing s*** at a black woman don’t sit well with me,” the user said. “B**** when I f***ing catch you h*e I swear to f***ing god.” Those were the final words of the “Never Lose Me” rapper before she exited stage left.

Hopefully, Flo and Gunna will not have to deal with anymore antics from “fans” going forward after this viral clip. Their next chance for a better show is tonight, as the Southern rappers head to the Fox Theatre in Detroit.

What are your thoughts on Flo Milli ending her performance early after the fan threw something at her onstage? Doja Cat Puts On Provocative Performance Of “Wet V**ina” At Coachella & Twerks Up A Storm

Coachella 2024 is now officially over. The celebrated and storied music festival had its second weekend of performances that went from April 19 to April 21. There were a lot of headlines that spawned from the festivities, including a new Ice Spice track dissing Latto, and Doja Cat putting on a multi-faceted headlining show. People were raving about it last week for its choreography, costumes and props, as well as the show-stopping energy from the California multi-hyphenate. It was also a bit of a twist and quite refreshing to see her not play just her biggest songs. Doja Cat wanted to highlight songs like “Wet V**ina,” for example and did she ever by twerking like a maniac.

Since the themes of the song include self-confidence while also embracing your sexuality and your desires, Doja made sure to shed light on that during the performance. In the full video below, she goes centerstage all by herself and rolls around in a mud bath. At around the 30 second mark is the part that most fans are going to want to see, though. Doja shook her rear end like no one was around, as she really embraced the raunchy nature of the song.

Doja Cat Shows Out On Stage

However, about a minute later 10 female back up dancers joined her onstage to get drenched in mud. Fans had nothing but positive reviews for the show and the “Wet V**ina” performance once again. One person writes, “She really has outstanding stage presence and knows how to rule the stage, it might be too “sexual” for some people, but I think that’s the point of the performance and I didn’t feel uncomfortable watching it. def top performance from this year.” Another adds, “My mind went blank when you performed it… Such an iconic performance.”

What are your thoughts on Doja Cat twerking during her performance of “Wet Vagina?” Is she the best live performer in hip-hop right now, why or why not? Tyler The Creator Speaks On Frank Ocean’s Elusive Nature During Coachella Set

Someone tell Frank Ocean to call Tyler The Creator, because it seems like he’s been lost for a long time. Ironically enough, among his last notable “public” appearances arrived on T’s 2021 album CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST for the outro of the track “LEMONHEAD” with 42 Dugg, on which he provided some spoken word. Needless to say, the Blonde crooner has had fans demanding a new album (or anything, at this point), for years now. It’s a notorious choice that his former Odd Future partner commented on during his Week Two set at Coachella on Saturday (April 20) following an incredible Week One showing.

“Y’all know this song?” Tyler, The Creator asked the crowd as the instrumental for his 2011 Goblin collab with Frank Ocean, “She,” played in the background. “Oh, sing the song, ’cause this n***a not coming out. We don’t… We don’t know where that n***a is, so… It’s on y’all. You know it?” Considering the special guests that T brought out last weekend (Childish Gambino, A$AP Rocky, Kali Uchis, and Charlie Wilson), plus Frank’s own controversial Coachella performance last year, many fans had hoped that this could be a big moment.

Tyler The Creator Doesn’t Know Where Frank Ocean Is, And Neither Does Anyone, Apparently

But at the end of the day, no one should be complaining about any of this. Frank Ocean didn’t suddenly disappear as a chronically online artist in the first place, and even though his absence definitely hits hard and receives legitimate qualms from his die-hards, who can really blame him for avoiding the spotlight as one of the best (and therefore most under-pressure and sought-after) artists today? As for Tyler, The Creator, who had mentioned using up all his phone calls for Week One, he did bring out another OF alum much to the crowd’s delight: Earl Sweatshirt. They performed their 2009 Bastard collab “A**Milk,” the first live performance of this track since 2014, and the 2013 Wolf standout “Rusty.” It was a very wholesome moment between two longtime friends.

“EarlWolf” Pops Out For Coachella Week Two: Watch

“My motherf***ing brother,” the “CORSO” MC said of Earl. “Y’all n***as don’t know. I love this guy so f***ing much.” Considering how close and proud much of Odd Future seems to be to this day, we’re sure they have similar words for Frank, as well. For (hopefully) more news on Frank Ocean and the latest updates on Tyler, The Creator, come back to HNHH.
