Lil Baby Prepares For A Summer Takeover With A Pair Of Slick-Talking Tracks: ‘In A Minute’ And ‘Right On’

Lil Baby is certainly one of rap’s biggest artists and it’s something that he’s proven over the past couple of years. In 2020, he released his sophomore album My Turn which was heralded as rap’s album of the year, and the following year, he teamed up with Lil Durk for their joint album, Voice of The Heroes. Both of the aforementioned albums debuted at No. 1 on the album charts and Baby is aiming to extend that streak to three with his upcoming full-length effort. While there’s no timeline for when his next project will arrive, he arrives to give anticipation for it a boost with two new singles: “In A Minute” and “Right On.”

The two tracks mark Baby’s first official releases of the year and they’re both strong efforts. “In A Minute” is a more relaxed record that features a sample of Ellie Goulding’s “Don’t Say a Word” which was most famously used in Drake and Jay-Z’s “Pound Cake.” On the flip side, “Right On” is a bit more lively and vibrant as it presents a quicker tempo thanks to the song’s production. Despite their differences, Baby uses both records to speak confidently about himself and remind listeners about his status and talents ahead of his upcoming third album.

Lil Baby’s new songs arrive after he teased a summer takeover last month. “It’s Gone Be A Nastyyyyy Summer,” he wrote in one tweet. In another, he added, “Drop a video every few weeks until [exploding head emojis],” and it seems like that plan is officially in motion.

You can listen to “In A Minute” and “Right On” in the videos above.

Exclusive: Lil Baby Embraces Having an Impact on the Youth, Provides Update on New Music

Hip-Hop and basketball are synonymous with each other. Over the eras, both arenas had key figures who stood at the forefront of this cultural partnership. Examining the landscape today, one of rap’s most influential representatives is Lil Baby. The friendship of the My Turn rapper and James Harden is chronicled throughout the media, and Baby’s love for hoops has bled into his philanthropic efforts. In December, Lil Baby teamed with another basketball lover in Hip-Hop, Meek Mill, to give back to the youth of Philadelphia in partnership with the 76ers. As fate would have it, Harden would soon join the ball club in one of league history’s biggest trade deadline deals.

Fast forward to March, and Lil Baby finds himself once again around basketball. This time with the stars of tomorrow. The superstar is in Chicago, pulling the double duty of being the halftime performer of the McDonald’s All American Game and spending time with the future of hoops like Amari Bailey, Dariq Whitehead, and Mark Mitchell on the hardwood of Wintrust Arena before the big game. Speaking with The Source ahead of his halftime performance, the positive impact of his presence is not lost on Lil Baby.

“They make me go harder,” Lil Baby said. “You have the want to go hard and get to a certain level of money. Then it’s like another feeling that can make you go hard too. It’s not about the money. It’s about the future. They look up to me. I could guide the future.”

Once it’s his time to perform, you see the importance of Lil Baby to Hip-Hop culture. Draped in an oversized coat, dripped in dancing diamonds, Lil Baby’s stroll onto the halftime floor is deafening. The players, who have spent the last week under the spotlight, immediately turn into fans. As Lil Baby moves across the court to service areas of the crowd with verses from “We Paid,” “Drip Too Hard,” and more, the entire Boys and Girls teams follow him, nearly embodying a new wave of security. Fans from courtside to the top row are enamored with every word he raps. A sign that his forthcoming music will have, at minimum, the same rate of success as his last album.

Lil Baby knows he broke a 60-year-old Billboard record on that last album, but that’s not what his concern is. “I seen that somewhere,” he said. “I seen it the other day. That’s hard, but I’m not the type to get into that.”

Lil Baby’s focus is on what next. Weeks back, he put Hip-Hop on alert. His version of JAY-Z telling the game, “Y’all got less than two months to get y’all thing together” at the end of “Show Me What You Got” in 2006. Lil Baby kept it coy when asked for an update, “You’ll see in the summer. It’s definitely coming, though.” After some prodding, he became a bit more lenient.

“I gotta start out early. So the whole summer could be up. It ain’t gonna be late summer.”

Allegations have been made by two of the mothers of Chief Keef’s children, Slim Danger and Simone Patton, are both claiming to have had an affair with Lil Baby.

In the midst of his baby mother, Jayda Cheaves, announcing that she has left the “Drip Too Hard” rapper for good, Slim Danger decided to put their business out in the street because she claims that Lil Baby didn’t pay all of the “hush money” she required in order not to go public with their affair.

Simone Patton, who goes by Simone Shontell on Instagram, took to IG after Danger, claiming that Slim was only copying what she’d already done wit h Lil Baby, while sharing the DMs between her and the ATL-bred superstar. Simone then said, “I don’t gotta sneak and do anything. Everybody knows how I am. He doesn’t care guys. Neither will he check me,” after showing both Zoey Dollaz and Lil Baby himself peeped her IG stories with the DMs.

Dua Lipa, J. Cole, And Metallica Headline Lollapalooza’s Stuffed Chicago 2022 Lineup

Chicago’s Lollapalooza fest has long been known as one of the biggest, most musically diverse festivals around, and this year, apparently, will be no exception. The 2022 lineup has been announced, with headliners including hard rock mainstays Metallica, disco-pop revivalist Dua Lipa, gymnastic rap enthusiast J. Cole, and pop-punk pioneers Green Day. The big print on the flyer for the four-day festival runs a bit rap-heavy, though, as Doja Cat, Machine Gun Kelly, and Lil Baby fill out the top third (yeah, I know, MGK’s technically an emo rocker now), along with EDM icon Kygo.

Further down the list is a truly breathtaking range of both up-and-coming and veteran artists including Glass Animals, Big Sean, Jazmine Sullivan, Don Toliver, Charli XCX, Denzel Curry, Blxst, Willow, Cordae, Caroline Polachek, PinkPanthress, Audrey Nuna, Wet Leg, Larry June, Coi Leray, King Princess, Dashboard Confessional, Baby Tate, Petey, Blackstarkids, and more. There’s even a special guest: Jane’s Addiction, who last performed together two years ago in 2020.

Lollapalooza is set for the weekend of July 28-31 in Chicago’s Grant Park. Tickets go on sale today at 12 pm CT, with General Admission starting at $350 and a four-day Platinum pass going for up to $4200. You can find more information at lollapalooza.com.
