There’s been a lot of pressure on Diddy coming from a variety of places in the past few months. The most intense pressure is likely coming from the legal woes. The feds raided two of his properties last month as part of an investigation into allegations of sex trafficking and producer Lil Rod filed a lawsuit against the rap mogul making some intense allegations against the rap mogul. But the most relentless pressure by far has come from 50 Cent’s Instagram feed. The rapper has been posting about Diddy almost every single day dating back months to a lawsuit filed against him in November.
Earlier this week, TMZ caught up with Jason Derulo and had time to ask him a question about Diddy. When they asked if he should be seen as innocent until proven guilty, Derulo agreed. “I believe in that. I believe in innocent before proven guilty,” he replied. 50 caught the resulting story and had to express his issues with it. “Shut the fvck up ! let me find out you on one of them tapes boy” he captioned an Instagram post accompanied by a picture of the headline. Derulo is the most recent in a line of people who become targets for 50 as soon as they’re association with Diddy emerges. Check out his post and the fan reactions to it below.
This isn’t even the only post 50 Cent has made about Diddy today. He posted a video a few hours ago that was meant to take aim at the rap mogul himself but also Meek Mill and Yung Miami. Meek was mentioned in Lil Rod’s lawsuit where he’s claimed to have had a sexual encounter with Diddy. But 50 thinks that questions about his sexuality are the last of Meek’s problems as he could be involved in the legal matters surrounding Diddy.
What do you think of 50 Cent posting about Jason Derulo following his comments to TMZ about Diddy? Do you think Derulo was wrong to say Diddy should be innocent until proven guilty? Let us know in the comment section below.
Singer Emaza Gibson has filed a lawsuit against music superstar Jason Derulo, accusing him of promising her a record deal in exchange for a sexual relationship. The lawsuit sheds light on the allegations and the supposed events leading to Gibson’s legal action. The Lawsuit Aspiring singer Emaza Gibson recently filed a lawsuit against Jason Derulo, […]
She was no stranger to the limelight, but Emaza Gibson was ready to receive new visibility with the help of Jason Derulo. For those who may recognize Emaza’s name, it’s for good measure—the young star was once a part of the Roc Nation sister duo, Ceraadi. The pair stirred things up in the R&B-Hip Hop lane and were a promising act for the mega-label. However, reported family issues divided the sisters, ultimately disbanding them.
Emaza pressed forward without her sister Saiyr; since 2021, she’s embarked on a solo career. According to NBC News in an explosive report, Gibson was excited at the prospect of signing to Derulo’s Atlantic Records imprint, Future History. However, the singer said Derulo’s intentions were far from pure. Gibson accused Derulo of unwanted advances, aggression, making her fear for her safety, and insinuating that for her career to advance, she’d have to have sex with him. Further, she said when she turned Derulo down, his attitude changed.
Emaza Gibson Details Her Allegations
To spread awareness about her sexual harassment lawsuit, Gibson spoke candidly with NBC News. “I’m at this point in my life right now, it’s very heartbreaking,” Emaza explained. “I have anxiety; I’m traumatized. I’ve dealt with inhumane work situations. … I’m at this point where I’m back to zero and I have nothing.” She added, “I’m like, OK, well, Jason is a great artist — big, international, powered with Atlantic — this should be a no-brainer, and I should be able to, you know, start my solo career.”
Although she once held rank at Roc Nation, Gibson asserted that she desired to be attached to Atlantic Records. Thus, connecting with Derulo professionally through his imprint was a dream come true. Emaza claimed that she attempted to navigate professionalism as Derulo repeatedly invited her out for drinks in private establishments. He also reportedly did the same during or following their time working in the studio.
Later, in the Fall of 2021, Gibson added she told Derulo she wasn’t interested in a personal relationship. “I told him that I wasn’t a drinker … so it’s like, you know, you’re not listening to that the first time I tell you, and you’re still pushing on me. It’s, like, pressure at this point.” She even suggested that he hinted at something darker, like a blood ritual, when he mentioned “fish scales and goat skin.” Emaza stated, “I’ve never heard about this, and I was trying to find and make sense of what it was, and I came across those articles.”
Continued Allegations Of Inappropriate Behavior
Gibson also shared that during a trip to the Big Apple in 2021, she and Derulo were set to meet with Atlantic bigwigs. However, at the last minute, he introduced a woman named Rosa, who would be with them. Gibson didn’t know Rosa, but the woman reportedly told the singer that she and Derulo were sleeping together. Then, in the meeting with executives, Derulo played Rosa’s music. Emaza noted that Rosa’s career flourished because she and Derulo allegedly had an intimate relationship.
When Gibson later mentioned this to Derulo’s manager, she claimed the singer became irate. That was the purported catalyst that caused Derulo to stop all contact. Emaza couldn’t communicate with Derulo, so to get a project manager to work on her career, she reached out to Atlantic directly. Gibson and Derulo would meet again in the summer of 2022, discussing various aspects of her music and scheduled studio time. However, during a session, Gibson stated Derulo became upset because she was late, and she did feel safe after he erupted. He allegedly “charged” at and “berated” the singer in front of witnesses.
The lawsuit further states that Gibson and her mother attempted to get help from Atlantic, but they did not offer up solutions. The label was reportedly excited about Gibson’s addition, but Derulo was supposedly making things difficult behind the scenes. In September 2022, both Derulo and Atlantic parted ways with the singer. Now, she’s suing him for sexual harassment, alleging “emotionally and physically inappropriate behavior.”
Gibson intends to “fight for what’s right,” she says, “because what was done to me was not OK.” She doesn’t want to see other artists experience someone using such an opportunity as a pawn. Both Future History and Atlantic are also named in court documents. Gibson seeks “unpaid wages, loss of earnings, deferred compensation and other employment benefits and damages for emotional distress.”
Jason Derulo nor his attorney responded to NBC News‘s attempts for a statement.
Jason Derulo has been named in a lawsuit filed by 25-year-old Emaza Gibson in Los Angeles County Superior Court, according to an NBC News report from Thursday, October 5.
The report specifies, “Gibson alleges that Derulo, 34, the ‘Whatcha Say’ singer, turned cold after she rejected his sexual advances and repeated invitations to dine and drink alcohol and that he eventually dropped her deal altogether. She accuses Derulo of quid pro quo sexual harassment.”
The lawsuit also alleges sexual harassment, retaliation, breach of contract, a failure to remedy workplace harassment, and violation of California’s civil rights act against Derulo, his Future History imprint, and Atlantic Records.
NBC News exclusively interviewed Gibson, who said she was approached by Derulo in August 2021 to sign as a solo artist to his imprint Future History’s joint venture with Atlantic Records. Gibson recalled several instances of Derulo allegedly pressuring her to drink with him — in both professional and social environments — in late 2021 despite her telling him that she “wasn’t a drinker.”
“The suit alleges Derulo responded by telling Gibson she might have to take part in ‘goat skin and fish scales,’” NBC News relays. “Gibson told NBC News that she was aware that ‘fish scales’ referred to a strain of cocaine but that she had to look up what Derulo meant by doing ‘goat skin.’”
The report continues, “Gibson said she learned from online articles about rituals involving sex, goat sacrifices and blood that appeared to be what Derulo was talking about. […] The lawsuit states that Gibson considered Derulo’s statement an ‘explicit demand for sex-in-exchange-for-success’ that was reinforced by other behavior, such as repeated pressure to go out with him and the scheduling of late-night studio sessions.”
The lengthy report additionally notes that Gibson last saw Derulo in June 2022, when he “charged at Gibson in front of her mother, [his] own staff, a videographer, and Gibson’s engineer,” which came after Derulo was allegedly neglecting to support Gibson with proper guidance and resources for her music and thus complicating her ability to meet her contract demands.
According to the lawsuit cited by NBC News, Gibson was dropped by Atlantic and Future History in September 2022. Gibson and her mother, Sandra Bales, stated that their attempts to contact Atlantic’s human resources department regarding Derulo’s “sexually, emotionally and physically inappropriate behavior” went unacknowledged.
NBC News had requested comment from representatives for Derulo and Altantic Records, but neither party responded by the time of this writing. Frank Harris, Derulo’s manager, is also a defendant in Gibson’s lawsuit.

Harry Belafonte’s songs have been a part of history for decades. The legendary Jamaican-American singer is one of the few entertainers to EGOT. This means he is among a handful of entertainers to receive Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Awards. This achievement solidifies his place in entertainment and, most importantly, Black history.
Outside of the entertainment world, Belafonte was also an outspoken voice in the civil and political sphere. This is where he placed his focus after releasing his last album in 1974. Belafonte’s music made an impact during its original run as he helped bring calypso music to American audiences. Not only was it well received, but it helped get him a myriad of performance opportunities. His music lives on through sampling in modern songs; we’ve gathered several of them in this list.
“6 Foot 7 Foot” – Lil Wayne feat. Cory Gunz (2010)
This is the most popular rap song that sampled Harry Belafonte. This song was produced by Bangladesh who sampled Belafonte’s classic song “Day-O (The Banana Boat Song).” In this version of the sample, the vocals are sped up and pitched higher. The sped-up vocals play throughout the verses, giving the song a fun and fast-paced feeling. Things slow down between verses where the sample serves as a creative and brief hook. Both Wayne and Cory Gunz drop colorful and punchline-filled verses on the track, whose booming bass helps bring the energy they bring to an even higher level. This goes double for Gunz, whose rapid fire flow in the second half of his verse is a highlight for many listeners.
“Burnt” – Del The Funky Homosapien feat. Hieroglyphics (1991)
This song borrowed from Harry Belafonte during the peak time for sampling – the ’90s. However, it does not sample the instruments from the original song. It interlopes one of the most popular lines from it. Del opens the five-verse track, and he’s the one who uses lines from Belafonte. However, instead of using it for a hook, he effortlessly weaves it into his verse.
It fits so well that you wouldn’t even know it came from a different song. However, Del ensures he still pays homage as he enunciates “Day-O” just as Belafonte did in the original track. Furthermore, he drops a few more bars before returning to the interpolation. This is an example of how sometimes a song can transcend generations in a subtle but effective way.
This is another song where Harry Belafonte’s “Day-O” comes through interpolation. Timbaland is on production here, however, he does not pair any elements from Belafonte’s original song with his signature drums. Missy Elliott is the one who brings Belafonte’s influence into the smooth track. After her opening verse, we come to the hook which she sings. She brings the lyrics of the past to the present by using them about being out at the club all night. Missy’s pen has always been slick. This interpolation sounds right on target for her.
She also mirrors Belafonte’s delivery style while making it her own. Had a listener not known better, this would have sounded like something Missy wrote herself. All artists set out to make timeless music, but the passage of time is the only way to determine if they were successful.
“Shake Senora” – Pitbull feat. T-Pain and Sean Paul (2011)
This song samples Harry Belafonte in the most direct way. Not only is the song’s melody sampled, but the hook is also too. This time, the sample comes from his song “Jump in the Line.” Considering the original track would have fit in a party setting, it’s only suitable three people known for party music to utilize it for a sample.
Producers Clinton Sparks and DJ Snake take the tropical melody from the original song and pair it with glitzy synth melodies to give the song a modern feel while keeping the spirit of the original alive. Regarding the hook, T-Pain and Pitbull rap-sing it and combined Belafonte’s original lyrics with some updated ones that fit a modern party scene. This track is one where the inspiration from Harry’s original track is clear, and they paid homage in a fun and respectful way.
This Harry Belafonte song sample is one of the more sentimental ones on our list. The song “My Angel (Malaika)” is a duet with singer Miriam Makeba. The track that samples it features Smino, although we would classify his presence as a typical feature, not a duet partner. However, Doja’s song contrasts the tone of the original song in almost every way. The guitar melody from the original is sampled and sped up. It’s paired with skittering trap drums that give the song a much faster pace than the drumless original. Doja’s vocals float between being rapped and sung as her vocalizations line up more with the sentimental tone of the original song, while her rapped verses do not. Smino’s creatively rapped verse keeps the energy alive and brings its own creative melody.
This way this Harry Belafonte song was used makes it one of the most direct ones on our list. Even the song title is a direct connection to the original classic. Jason Derulo takes the most recognizable part of “Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)” and uses it for the hook. Like one of the previous entries, Jason modernizes it by bringing the lines to the club. Considering this, he connects people’s memories of the original song to new memories they created while listening to his song. He does this by simply swapping out a few words; his delivery aligns with his singing style. The feeling of happiness associated with the original version and his song is another aspect that connects them across generations.

R&B/Pop singer Jason Derulo is keeping busy these days. He now has a new talent show called Project Icon. Formed with his business partner, Frank Harris, the “Wiggle” singer wanted the talent show to be more relatable to the music industry.
Unlike other talent-seeking shows, Project Icon focuses on helping the contestants make music that performs well on social media. They also teach the artists how to perfect their brands.
The ten contestants will also be critiqued on their interview skills and relatability. The winner of Project Icon will record a song with Derulo and perform at Radio 1’s Big Weekend. The winner will also be signed to Derulo’s label, Future History.
Based in the UK, Project Icon will air six episodes starting on March 26th on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer. The contestants are all from the UK as they specialize in different genres such as country, hip hop, rock, and R&B. Some of the artists already have a fan base, and some are unknown. They will be judged by Becky Hill, Harris, and Derulo himself.
Social media, mainly TikTok, is the reason for this show. The “Whatcha Say” singer has built a following on TikTok, amassing over 50 million followers. The popular social platform has helped further his career. It also proves that the music industry has changed and is more than just about music.
Derulo makes a statement about his new show and the current music industry:
“The world of music has changed and being a superstar with staying power today requires a lot more than just singing. Project Icon is the first TV show that will challenge contestants on all realistic skills an artist today should have for a real shot at being an Icon.”
Jason Derulo songs have been very popular in the pop world. His music burst onto the scene when EDM and Pop went hand in hand. His songs were everywhere and rightfully so. They brought happiness to people and were easy to dance to. Their accessibility is why they were used in commercials and other mass market situations. Even the way he said his name in songs was memorable. This is something that has truly never left many people’s minds. For some, most of his music is nostalgic because it released when they were younger with less responsibilities. Some of his songs are classics in many people’s eyes for this exact reason. We’ve compiled his 10 most streamed songs and you’re definitely going to find some of those nostalgic tracks on this list.
This is one of the most recent Jason Derulo songs on this list. Lately, many people are sampling very popular songs from the past. The sample is often instantly recognizable and draws people in. Jason Derulo uses that technique with the chorus of this song. David Guetta’s production brings an EDM tone to it for 2023. Like most songs in this genre, the drop is what people wait for. The pulsing drums come in and it makes it hard to not move in some way when this happens. Jason’s vocals sound light and fun as interlopes the hook from “Saturday Love” by Cherrelle and Alexander O’Neal. The song has a danceable tone to it that also makes it ideal for working out too. The fact these two worked together again in 2023 was quite a big deal for fans.
#9 Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat) [BTS Remix] – Jawsh 685, BTS, Jason Derulo
There are three versions of this song. The first one, was an instrumental song by New Zealand producer Jawh 685 titled “Laxed – Siren Beat”. The second one, featured Jason Derulo. The third, featured BTS and Jason Derulo. For BTS fans, seeing yet another song reach huge success was a joy for them. However, there’s some controversy attached to this one. When the music video for the song was released, Jason Derulo did not initially credit BTS or Jawsh 685. This made BTS fans upset. Fortunately, he later fixed it. The song has a melody that goes well with its earworm of a hook. Naturally, the song’s bilingual aspects are a big draw as the BTS members use Korean and English in their verses. This is a collaboration that brought new listeners to listeners of BTS and Jason Derulo.
#8 Acapulco – Jason Derulo
This is a fairly recent Jason Derulo song that dropped in 2021. It’s on the shorter side at just over two minutes. This encourages fans to listen to it back-to-back and even a third time if they want. On this song, he uses a slight accent at times to fit the theme of the song. Acapulco is a city in Mexico and Jason alludes to the beach resort town in the song. The melody of the song lines up with Jason’s vocal delivery exactly. The entire song has a fun and upbeat atmosphere. Additionally, the lyrics in both verses follow the same flow which make them easy to remember and sing along with. Perhaps the icing on the cake for the theme is the sound of ocean waves at the beginning of the song.
#7 Whatcha Say – Jason Derulo
This is one Jason Derulo’s songs many people consider a classic. This one was on Jason Derulo’s debut album from 2010. To celebrate its 10 year anniversary, the album was re-released in 2020. For many people, this song was their introduction to his music. He made sure people knew his name on this one since he said it at the beginning. Furthermore, the song’s hook is probably what people think of when they hear the song. This portion is a sample of “Hide and Seek” by Imogen Heap. Jason’s verses are a response to it and the song tells a story. The instruments in the song combine keys and what sounds like trumpets and create a layered atmosphere. This one is not as direct with its danceability in comparison to some of his other songs.
When pop artists work with rappers, it can go one of two ways. People either latch on to it or dismiss it. This was another nostalgic one for many but calling it a “classic” may be a reach for many of them. Still, this song does have an iconic part that many people remember. It’s not really a “drop” like EDM music has but everything does shift for something: a saxophone. The saxophone’s melody comes in with the hook which makes it stick out easily. This part may sound a little dated for some if you’re listening in 2023. This Jason Derulo song is very hook centric too as his actual verses are minimal. 2 Chainz’s is longer and fits in with the theme well. This one is the opening and title track of the album it’s on.
#5 1,2 3, – Sofia Reyes feat. Jason Derulo and De La Ghetto
English-speaking artists collaborating with Hispanic ones is something we’ve been seeing for years. These days, the Hispanic artist is able to burst onto the American scene without a collaboration. Or, the English-speaking artists feature on their song instead of vice versa. This is the case with this Jason Derulo song. The song is bilingual with Sofia’s verse using English and Spanish. De La Ghetto’s verse is essentially in Spanish completely aside from a few ad-libs. Jason’s verse is brief and also bilingual. He appears again on the song’s hook and provides background vocalizations. The song itself has the bounce that many Hispanic led pop songs have. Traditional instruments like guitars combine with traditional and programmed drums to create a fun dance atmosphere.
#4 Take You Dancing – Jason Derulo
Pop music has been using double entendres and innuendos for years. Pop music is meant to be accessible for all and with these methods, songs can be played in multiple settings. This Jason Derulo song uses this technique although due to one line it’s not exactly cleverly “hidden”. Still, it’s got a hook with repeated vocalizations that stick in listeners’ minds. For some, it makes them think of “Tom’s Diner” by Suzanne Vega which used a similar technique. The keys and guitar in the song give the song a lighthearted tone and the strings that come in make it a little more interesting. Jason goes into his higher register throughout the song too which is common but still appreciated by listeners.
#3 Want to Want Me – Jason Derulo
This Jason Derulo song is another one that was very popular when it released. It has a pleasant atmosphere and would be fitting on a sunny day. This one was used in compilation videos on social media a lot or for positive segments on daytime shows. Once again, Jason mostly uses his higher register for his vocal delivery. This compliments the tone of the song well. His background vocalizations are a little more understated in this one. However, they still serve as an additional melody to the song. They come in at the end of the hook in the background. Furthermore, this is another hook centric song in his discography. The verses are short and the hook is easy to sing along with which was its purpose.
#2 Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat) – Jawsh 685, Jason Derulo
This one is the Jason Derulo version of the #9 song on this list. With only him on vocals, the second verse on the song is different. However, the first one is still used on the BTS remix as it was here. With Jason only doing the vocals here, the song is also slightly shorter, This does not mean we hear the instrumental for any longer amount of time either though. In fact, the instrumental itself is the exact same. Jawsh 685 didn’t feel the need to change it and this decision makes sense. Jason’s high register vocals are on display even more prominently here and fit the song well. For this one, the real triumph is how much attention and success it brought to Jawsh 685 as this is his #1 most streamed song.
We haven’t specified the stream count for any of these songs but this one is worth mentioning. It’s over one billion. This makes sense considering Nicki Minaj is one of the features on it. Also, Ty Dolla $ign is always a big draw when he’s featured. Out of all the songs up here, this one is the most rap centric. Jason still sings while Ty Dolla does a rap-sing flow and Nicki raps. The hook interlopes a classic hip-hop song “Shimmy Shimmy Ya” by ODB. The song’s subject matter is an obvious innuendo. However, the song’s island based production makes it ideal for that setting and it’s still danceable. The music video showcased the former with colors as bright as the song’s atmosphere is.

TikTok is an ever-changing platform with trends that are impossible to keep up with. It’s hard to tell who started what because trends spread so rapidly. However, in a new interview with Kick Game, Jason Derulo is trying to take credit for not just a TikTok trend, but the entire transformation of the app.
Derulo discusses how it started off as a dancing app, and it wasn’t until he “started to introduce other things” that it changed. He explained that he noticed young people were using the app, and he wanted to check it out, but he didn’t start until the pandemic when he had time on his hands. He currently boasts 56.8 million TikTok followers.
“I had fun with it, honestly. It was a dance app at first. It being a dance app, I felt like, I don’t know if this is gonna work. Everybody doesn’t like to dance,” he said. “So I was like, ‘Let me start posting other sh*t.’ I tried to post a photo, that didn’t work. People was like, ‘What the f*ck is this?’ Then I started to post random story-like videos. That didn’t work.”
He continued, “What worked was when I was posting things that was more fun. Things that showed another side of me, you know what I’m saying? I was like, ‘Okay, this is a moment where I can be a leader and do something that’s totally different on the app.’ I think it changed the app forever because TikTok used to be just a dance app, and it wasn’t until I started to introduce other things that it became the app that it is today. And to this day, TikTok pays me…” He was about to share a dollar amount, but instead said, “Let me not say that.”
When pressed for specific tips for going viral on TikTok, Derulo emphasized that “lighting is everything” and “be organic to yourself.”
Watch the interview above. The TikTok talk begins around the 14-minute mark.
