Snoop Dogg Reveals He Wants To Act in UK Soap Opera

Snoop Dogg has proven time and time again that he can do it all. The 51-year-old has his eyes set on making a cameo on Coronation Street. Coronation Street is a United Kingdom soap opera that has been running since the 1960s. It is the world’s longest-running TV soap opera.

The “Gin & Juice” rapper spoke with The Sun about his love for the show. “Coronation Street, I love it. If they call me, I’ll do it. I’ll play whenever they need,” Snoop said.

He went on to say he enjoys everything about the show.

“I love the cinematography, acting, the storylines, and just the reality.”

One actress on the show would undoubtedly love to have him on board. Elle Mulvaney, who plays Amy Barlow in the soap, tells ITV studios how she feels about a Snoop Dogg cameo. “We really want that like, imagine. Get him in the Barlow’s or the Rovers,” she said.

Snoop has always loved the UK culture and the royal family. While accused of murder in 1993, the Long Beach rapper was banned from touring in the UK. Fortunately, Queen Elizabeth’s grandchildren were big fans of Snoop and allowed him to perform there. She felt that he did nothing wrong in Britain. Snoop Dogg has always remembered this and even offered to perform at King Charles III’s coronation.

A-list celebrities such as Elton John, Adele, Harry Styles, and the Spice Girls have all been asked to perform at the prestigious event. Unfortunately, all artists were busy, so Snoop offered to step in.

The “Nuthin’ But A “G” Thang” rapper has also done a deal with London-based company, Roobet.  Roobet is a crypto casino they have partnered with Snoop Dogg for a new game titled, Hotbox.

Jason Derulo Hosts New Talent Show, Offering Opportunity to Join His Label

Jason Derulo004

R&B/Pop singer Jason Derulo is keeping busy these days.  He now has a new talent show called Project Icon.  Formed with his business partner, Frank Harris, the “Wiggle” singer wanted the talent show to be more relatable to the music industry.

Unlike other talent-seeking shows, Project Icon focuses on helping the contestants make music that performs well on social media. They also teach the artists how to perfect their brands.

The ten contestants will also be critiqued on their interview skills and relatability.  The winner of Project Icon will record a song with Derulo and perform at Radio 1’s Big Weekend.  The winner will also be signed to Derulo’s label, Future History.

Based in the UK, Project Icon will air six episodes starting on March 26th on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer.  The contestants are all from the UK as they specialize in different genres such as country, hip hop, rock, and R&B.  Some of the artists already have a fan base, and some are unknown. They will be judged by Becky Hill, Harris, and Derulo himself.

Social media, mainly TikTok, is the reason for this show.  The “Whatcha Say” singer has built a following on TikTok, amassing over 50 million followers.  The popular social platform has helped further his career. It also proves that the music industry has changed and is more than just about music.

Derulo makes a statement about his new show and the current music industry:

“The world of music has changed and being a superstar with staying power today requires a lot more than just singing.  Project Icon is the first TV show that will challenge contestants on all realistic skills an artist today should have for a real shot at being an Icon.”

Public Enemy’s Chuck D Says Popularizing Rap In The UK Was “Our British Invasion”

Chuck D recently opened up in a sit-down about his career to date and got on the topic of performing in the United Kingdom. In 1987, the “Don’t Believe The Hype” rappers famously rocked the stage at London’s Hammersmith Apollo and were met with a large group of fans.

The Public Enemy rapper then revealed that bringing rap and hip-hop to the UK was “our British invasion,” comparing it with the popularity of bands like The Beatles and the Rolling Stones in America during the 1960s.

MTV Raps” on September 19, 1991 in New York City. (Photo by Al Pereira/Getty Images/Michael Ochs Archives)

In an interview with The Guardian this past week, the New York native said about performing overseas, “The UK was somewhere we relished because we knew words would be written about us, what we thought and where we had come from.”

On helping to bring fresh hip-hop sounds to another part of the world, the 62-year-old continued, “When we came to the UK, we paid our dues, but it was a two-way street. We wanted to stake the UK because we knew it was different from the US as far as freedom went. The English language had taken over the world, so we thought: why not plug hip-hop into it? The British had beaten the English language into so many cultures; bringing rap music back to the UK was our British invasion.”

Public Enemy quickly became pioneers in early rap history after forming in the early 1980s. Along with members Flavor Flav and Hank Shocklee, Chuck D climbed the charts with hits like “Fight The Power” and “Harder Than You Think.”

They tackled important topics like police brutality, racism, and politics throughout their music, earning them a dedicated following and several Grammy nominations.

Chuck D also told the Guardian his views on why newer artists don’t often cover similar topics, saying, “We had the blessing of right age, right place, right time. I was the right person with the right thing going on: Black music in New York. But it’s one thing to have coincidence and happenstance; you’ve also got to make it work.”
