Jason Derulo Reveals A Hidden Talent For Opera And People Are Shocked

It’s kind of an unspoken open secret in pop music that a lot of our favorite singers are actually even more talented than they show. Since simpler, catchier songs tend to be more marketable and popular (thus making a lot more money), many singers with incredible vocal talent often constrain themselves to music they can sell rather than demonstrating their full gifts.

Some fans are getting a taste of this thanks to a TikTok video taken during a Jason Derulo show, as the “Wiggle” and “Swalla” singer demonstrated another facet of his musical gifts. In the video, the classically trained singer launches into an impressively barrel-chested rendition of his song “Goodbye” in the style of the Andrea Bocelli classic “Time To Say Goodbye,” which it samples. The camera swiftly pans over to a fan in the crowd whose jaw is doing its best to find the floor, while the caption explains that the audience was “FLABBERGASTED” by the pop star’s operatic vocals.

Naturally, the TikTok quickly made its way to Twitter, where fans did a 280-character written version of the shocked face of the girl on the TikTok. From having trouble reconciling the booming voice in the video with Derulo’s role in the mind-breakingly bad 2019 film version of Cats to being utterly floored by yet another hidden talent from the constantly surprising singer, fans couldn’t contain their amazement at Jason’s previously unacknowledged gift.

Jason Derulo Got In A Bloody Fight With Two Guys After They Called Him Usher

While fame is something many aspire to, not everything that comes with the territory is appealing. That was on display last night, as Jason Derulo found himself being accosted by a couple of instigators at a Las Vegas hotel, who created a situation that turned violent.

A video obtained by TMZ shows the entertainer coming down an escalator accompanied by somebody who appears to be a bodyguard. As he leaves the room, a man shouts, “Hey Usher! F*ck you, b*tch!” Immediately after that, Derulo charged two men and attacked them.

TMZ reports that according to law enforcement sources, police were called to Las Vegas’ Aria hotel early Tuesday morning following the incident. Eyewitnesses told the publication Derulo punched the guy who swore at him in the face and slapped a second guy shortly after. As The Guardian notes, police say Derulo “committed a battery against two individuals.”

While the fight got a bit bloody, none of the injuries sustained required hospital visits. Meanwhile, Derulo got a trespassing notice from the hotel and was removed from the premises (in handcuffs, per The Guardian). Neither man wanted to press charges, but as TMZ notes, “there’s always the possibility of a lawsuit.”

Nas And Pusha T Invest In Audius Streaming Service, Which Plans To Increase ‘Significant Revenue Streams’ For Artists

Artists from all corners of the music world have long voiced their frustration with the current format of the music streaming business. In short, artists want a higher share of the revenue made from streams and it’s something an up-and-coming streaming platform, Audius, is aiming to accomplish.

This goal seemingly convinced Nas and Pusha T to sign on as investors, as the company recently announced. The rappers join a list of artists that include Katy Perry, Jason Derulo, Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda, Steve Aoki, Chainsmokers, and Disclosure — according to a press release — as names who invested in the company.

“I believe [blockchains] might be the most important technology to ever hit the music industry,” Nas said in a statement. “Everyone who uploads to Audius can be an owner. You can’t say that about any other platform.” The company launched back in 2018 as a streaming service based on blockchain technology, which is also used to support NFTs and cryptocurrency. Audius also announced a $5 million round of strategic funding that would begin today.

Audius also boasts a sizable cast of investors that are music executives. They include Sony/ATV Music Publishing CEO Martin Bandier, Madonna and U2’s longtime manager Guy Oseary, and manager Mark Gillespie, whose clients include Frank Ocean and Calvin Harris. Speaking about Audius, Bandier said, “The blockchain is enabling entirely new revenue streams for artists and creators, like NFTs, social currency, and curation.” He added, “Audius is not only using the blockchain to add potentially significant revenue streams for artists, but it also allows them to cooperatively own the platform itself.”

The company’s highlight aspect is the fact that through blockchain technology, 90% of earnings from monetized streams would go to the artists and the remaining 10% would be given to the community that keeps Audius alive.
