Doechii’s Freewheeling ‘Boom Bap’ Pokes Fun At The Reputation Of Her Label

Don’t push play on Doechii‘s new single “Boom Bap” expecting its content to match its title. Instead of employing a Pete Rock-esque, jazz-and-breakbeat-sampling instrumental and spitting cerebral battle raps full of witty double entendres, the Florida native instead lampoons such expectations with a jokey, largely improvised vocal performance, scatting and freestyling her way through repeated chants of the title. It’s a wink at the reputation of her label, Top Dawg Entertainment, which for the past decade was largely defined by its roster of heady rappers like Ab-Soul, Isaiah Rashad, and Kendrick Lamar, as well as production that favored ’90s-era styles.

Doechii, however, has done things differently since her first-ever single for the label, “Persuasive,” which employed house production and set her apart from her labelmates in some important ways (she’s also the only woman rapper signed to the label, although SZA’s pen skills have been praised as being very rapper-like). She returned to that style on recent single “Alter Ego” with JT of City Girls, putting her in conflict with Azealia Banks, but further establishing that she’s willing to do things her own way.

“Boom Bap” is due to appear on Doechii’s debut TDE mixtape, Alligator Bites Never Heal, which is due on August 30. You can find more information here.

Travis Scott And Young Thug’s Throwback Track ‘Yeah Yeah’ Has Been Re-Released Thanks To The ‘Days Before Rodeo’ Deluxe

The blog era of hip-hop has been revered as a pivotal moment in time for the genre (at least for millennials). But the tail end of that time period gifted the culture some monumental mixtapes, including Travis Scott’s Days Before Rodeo.

In honor of the body of work’s tenth anniversary, at Fanatic Fest NYC, Scott announced that it would be re-released onto streaming services. Well, today (August 23), he delivered on his promise.

But that wasn’t the only oldie the “Fe!n” rapper treated fans to. On the deluxe version (exclusively available on Scott’s personal website here), purchasers were gifted several bonus track, the most notable being “Yeah Yeah” featuring Young Thug.

True Travis Scott fans are very well acquainted with the song. Similar to Kanye West (Ye) and Ty Dolla Sign’s record “New Bodyformerly featuring Nicki Minaj, a rough version of “Yeah Yeah” was leaked and continues to float around online. Although “Yeah Yeah” isn’t available on streaming (yet), Days Before Rodeo (Deluxe) owners now have the finished track in the collection.

According to NFR Podcast, yesterday (August 22) during the Days Before Rodeo anniversary concert held at The Masquerade in Atlanta, Georgia, Scott performed the track for the among others to lock in the nostalgic moment.

ASAP Rocky Catches Heat For His Dismissive Drake Beef Comments

ASAP Rocky and Drake exchanged a lot of shots this year, and they will probably send more each other’s way in the near future. This is especially true these days, as folks think that Drizzy dissed Rocky on the recent “It’s Up” and considering that the New York rapper will drop an album very soon. In fact, he already allegedly dissed his Toronto enemy on the single “HIGHJACK.” Regardless, what people are really talking about these days are comments from the A$AP Mob member about this feud, which basically dismissed this whole thing. This didn’t sit well with some folks, especially the OVO camp.

“You got to realize, certain n***as was throwing shots for years,” A$AP Rocky remarked about the Drake beef. “I ain’t in the middle of that s**t. That’s not how I retaliate right now. I got bigger fish to fry than some p***y boys. It is real beef outside. It is real. N***as getting really clipped and blitzed every day. N***as sniping n***as every day. That little kitty s**t ain’t about nothing.” Some detractors thought that Rocky tried too hard to sidestep actually engaging with this feud, whereas others took shots at his supposedly false street ties.

Fans Blast ASAP Rocky’s Words For Drake

But the biggest likelihood is that A$AP Rocky simply chose to focus on his album Don’t Be Dumb rather than the Drake beef. The 6ix God seems to be taking a similar approach these days, so we can probably expect some subliminal shots back and forth either way. After all, they love to shade subtly and not overtly, and they have plenty of reason to do so engagement-wise now that everyone is combing through tracks for potential disses. But DBD faced yet another delay, so we will have to wait a little more for this. Find critical reactions to this development down below.

More Reactions

Meanwhile, another bizarre Drake comment as of late came from none other than Kanye West. He dedicated “I Wonder” to him and Ian Connor at the VULTURES listening event in Korea, which confused many fans. Did Ye mean this shoutout as a diss or is he once again walking back his previous negative comments about his “Glow” collaborator? I mean, it’s too many options…

“Mo City Flexologist” Sees Travis Scott At His Most Quintessential

Getting DAYS BEFORE RODEO on streaming is already a win, but also receiving a deluxe version with extra tracks is even better. Travis Scott revealed that this was going to be a real possibility when he announced the rerelease on his social media. When he did, the Houston, Texas artist said that it would be a “couple”. However, he went above and beyond, delivering five of them. Four of them are tracks that have been on the internet in some capacity. But Travis Scott was able to keep “Mo City Flexologist” under wraps, for the most part.

According to Genius, it got two separate previews, once on May 27, 2014, and again on the 28. Additionally, online forums claim that the instrumental was sold to another rapper. Thankfully, we now know that Travis Scott had “Mo City Flexologist” in his clutches still. The track can only be heard if you buy the DIGITAL DELUXE on his website for $4.99. However, fans are making sure everyone has a chance to hear it, as platforms like YouTube already have the audio files. As for how the song sounds, it’s quite incredible. Scott and Honorable C.N.O.T.E. cooked up an equally hype, dark, and woozy cut. It has a stadium-like feel to instrumental and Scott’s short but effective auto-crooned chorus add an extra hypnotic element. Additionally, the flows he rocks on the verses display his natural knack for creating sticky patterns. It has all of the quintessential elements of what makes Travis Scott tick in all the best ways.

I done dirtied the Sprite, I done crushed up the ice
Who knew LaFlame make it bigger than life?

Rock a kilo of gold just to dip it in ice

Diddy Assisted Elon Musk In Taking Over Twitter

Diddy is in the news for very different and more harrowing reasons these days, but fans may be surprised at his tech investments. Moreover, a new document went public on Wednesday (August 21) that detailed the nearly 100 investors that helped Elon Musk turn Twitter into X with his $44 billion purchase of the platform in 2022. The Bad Boy mogul represented himself through Sean Combs Capital LLC and joined others like Bill Ackman, Twitter founder Jack Dorsey, and Saudi Prince Al Waleed bin Talal Al Saud. However, it’s unclear how much he invested in the social media site. Also, the public doesn’t know who currently holds shares in the company.

As for Diddy and Elon Musk’s relationship, they went to a Dave Chappelle show in 2022, so they have some amicable history together. Of course, they both have much bigger fish to fry these days, most notable the former’s various sexual assault, abuse, and sex trafficking accusations. As for this situation, the most recent update we received concerned preparations from his legal team to combat these lawsuits. The Combs camp has vehemently denied any and all allegations that have not been proven true.

Diddy aside, Elon Musk is instead dealing with the harsh political climate of today’s Twitter, and Plies has a theory as to what his solution may be. “I Can See Elon Shutting Down Twitter When Trump Continues To Fall Behind In The Polls,” he tweeted. “He Brought Twitter To Influence The Election. An Before He Accepts A Trump Loss I Believe He’ll Shut It All Down!!!!!” Many others share a similar sentiment (however unlikely), but we can’t really say much about it until Election Day rolls around in the United States.

Meanwhile, 50 Cent recently reacted to a bizarre Diddy story about a cartel member suing him for refusing to traffic minors. It’s a strange claim, especially since many wondered whether or not this would constitute as self-snitching. Regardless, it’s one of a lot of obstacles in his way, a process that has been wild to witness on Elon Musk’s platform. We’ll see what happens with these controversial tycoons and the platforms and legacies that they must contend with.

Lil Yachty was the main character of social media on Thursday night and it was not for the best of reasons. Overall, it all had to do with a couple of ongoing situations. Snoop Dogg’s Children’s Series Stirs Excitement For Back-To-School Season

Screenshot 2024 08 23 at 10.25.19 AM

ust in time for the back-to-school season, the beloved characters from the popular 3D animated series ‘Doggyland’– co-created in 2022 by Snoop DoggOctober London, and Claude Brookes –share a fun new learning anthem, “I Don’t Know” today (8/22/2024). Featuring Snoop Dogg as his character Bow Wizzle, the catchy tune delivers an upbeat and engaging message: it’s okay not to have all the answers.

The characters from ‘Doggyland’ bring this message to life in a fun and engaging way, encouraging young children to feel confident expressing uncertainty, and helping them to navigate the often challenging landscape of learning with curiosity and openness. By acknowledging that it’s normal not to know everything, the song fosters a healthy attitude towards asking questions and seeking knowledge. This approach not only supports cognitive development, but also contributes significantly to social-emotional growth.

The importance of social-emotional development in early childhood cannot be overstated. As children learn to manage emotions, build relationships, and make decisions, they also develop a stronger foundation for academic and personal success. “I Don’t Know” serves as a crucial tool in this development, teaching children that it’s okay to ask for help and to learn through exploration and inquiry. By normalizing uncertainty, the song helps create more organic learning opportunities
in daily life, whether in the classroom, at home, or during play.

I’m excited to share our Doggyland song and video ‘I Don’t Know’. This is specially made to get kids excited and motivated to never stop being curious and asking questions. We wanted to create a space where kids and families could be inspired to learn. Nobody knows everything and no one should be afraid to admit it.” – Snoop Dogg
