Drake Fires Back At Rappers Who Dissed Him On New Song “No Face”

Drake is keeping it moving. The dust has barely settled on the rapper’s “100 GIGS” release, and now we have three new songs. A lot of the attention will go to “Supersoak,” the anticipated Lil Yachty leak that no longer features Lil Yachty. That said, “No Face” has the most fascinating bars. Drake and Playboi Carti go back and forth on a hard rage beat. Carti does his thing, per usual. Drake, however, takes the time to call out the rappers who dissed him in 2024. It’s a long list, and the Toronto superstar decides to side swipe them all with a couple lines.

We’ve heard Drake go the detailed route. “Push Ups” and “Family Matters” were instances of him dissing each of his enemies specifically. He found time to poke fun at The Weeknd, Rick Ross, A$AP Rocky, and of course, Kendrick Lamar. “No Face” opts for a different approach. The 6 God decides to go vague with it, and hint at what’s to come. “I’m just so happy,” he raps. “That n**gas who envied and held that sh*t in got to finally show it.” The second line, though, is more ominous. “I’m over the moon, yeah, we’ll see you boys soon,” Drake adds. This isn’t the only time on “No Face” the 6 God decides to address what went down between him and the rest of the rap game.

Drake Tells His Enemies That He’ll See Them “Soon”

Much has been made about Drake’s diminishing ability to make hits. The “Drake stimulus package” that ran R&B and hip hop for over a decade has been labeled obsolete. The rapper doesn’t much care for that take. He reminds everyone that he helped people like Ross, Rocky, and The Weeknd blow up. “This is the sh*t that my daddy had raised me on. N**gas got lit off the features I skated on,” he spits. “I gotta know, I gotta know. How you get lit off the n**ga you hatin’ on?” Drake is planning something big, and the bulk of his verse at the something without every revealing what it is.

The rest of Drake’s first verse bears this out. He even makes reference to the advice that people like OVO 40 have been giving him behind closed doors. “40 keep sayin’ it’s time to be patient,” he explains. “It’s so many people we turnin’ the tables on. Capo got plans, but we’ll save that for later on. Hush’ll keep sayin’ they know that they played it wrong.” The 6 God is definitely back on his subliminal game. We’re curious and excited to see where the rest of Drake’s 2024 goes.

Drake Surprise Drops Three New Songs On Instagram

Drake is back. He wasn’t gone that long, but still. The Toronto rapper surprised fans everywhere by dropping three new songs on his Instagram burner account. The songs include the unreleased collab with Playboi Carti, “No Face” and “Circadian Rhythm.” The latter is billed as a sequel to the rapper’s 2013 song “The Language.” The biggest revelation, though, is that Drake finally put out a CDQ version of the highly anticipated song “Supersoak (SOD).” We knew it was coming, we just didn’t realize it was going to be this soon.

Drake previously linked up with Playboi Carti on “Pain 1993.” The vibe for “No Face” is a lot more angry and aggressive than their first collab, though. It definitely sounds more like a Playboi Carti song that just has a Drake feature tacked onto it. Whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing depends on how you feel about Carti. “Circadian Rhythm” is going to get the least attention, due to it having no feature or drama attached to it. That being said, it might just be the best song of the batch here. “Circadian Rhythm” has a great groove to it, and feels the most like a throwback Drake song. You’ll be able to tell why he made it a sequel to “The Language.”

Drake Officially Removed Lil Yachty From ‘Supersoak’

“Supersoak” is the big story here, though. Kai Cenat originally previewed the song during a live stream. Lil Yachty was featured on the original version. Yachty then went on the Flagrant podcast and claimed that the song would never be released due to a sample clearance issue. THEN Drake’s people claimed that the song would be coming out officially. Only, Lil Yachty wouldn’t be featured on it. This is what we meant when we previously alluded to “drama.” The Drake and Yachty saga doesn’t even get into Soulja Boy, and umbrage he took with Drake borrowing his “Supersoak” catchphrase. Drake and Soulja are not going to mend their fences, ever, it feels like.

All that said, “Supersoak” is a hit. It’s got a wildly catchy instrumental. It also features a Drake flow that is bound to get stuck in people’s heads. There’s been rumors that the rapper is already shooting a music video for the song, which all but confirms that it’s his next big single. We’ve yet to given information as to what happened between Drake and Lil Yachty. That said, fans can bask in the fact that we finally have the “Supersoak” song. Hopefully they all land on streaming soon.

Lil Yachty heard through the hood network that his former artist, Karrahbooo, was talking slick aboht him and his crew, the Concrete Boys and even accused the rapper/actor of “bullying” her into leaving the fold. Well, that didn’t over well with Boat and he took to IG and basically told the world that he made her career and her biggest downfall was how she treated the people around her.

“Bro, go ahead [and tell] people how you talk to people,” Yachty said during his IG rant. “You talk to people like they were nothing,” Yachty added. “Like they’re small, like they’re beneath you.” He also addressed an allegation that she said she would spit on her former boss. “How you told me you ‘gon spit on me when you see me,” he said. “Your brain is clinically imbalanced…”

“I’ve given you a career and time and time you just disrespect me,” he described. “I wrote every f*cking verse you’ve done, I dressed you.” “I changed your motherf*cking life,” he concluded. “You out here lying.”

The Caribbean Music Awards are set to return to Brooklyn’s iconic Kings Theatre on Thursday, August 29, 2024, for an unforgettable night of celebration, music, cultural pride and a showcase of ‘Voices of The Caribbean.’ Hosted by the Queen of Dancehall, Spice, and the King of Comedy, Majah Hype, this year’s awards promise a spectacular showcase of talent, with a lineup that underscores the diversity and vibrancy of Caribbean music.

Uproxx Music 20: Teyter Tot Is Bringing Her Fierce Bay Area Energy To A City Near You

This week’s Uproxx Music 20 column takes things to the West Coast, where we shine a light on rapper Teyter Tot. With a project and a slew of singles under her belt, the Oakland native caught my attention thanks to a couple of freestyles that live on her Instagram page. The first is one from a few months ago with the platform In The Kitchen With H-Dot and the other is with another called Hotel Freestyles. In both, Teyter Tot displayed fierce attitude as she fired off brash, tough-talking bars over bass-rattling production.

Teyter Tot’s music reminds me a bit of Rico Nasty’s, only with an emphasis on The Bay rather than the DMV. Teyter’s most recent project came back in 2022 with Different Breed, and though she’s yet to release a record in 2024, she’s spent the last week teasing what we can assume is her next single of many to come. The sky is the limit for the Oakland-bred rapper, so if you want to dive into her releases, you can start with Different Breed highlights like “Act Right” and “Wait” or check out some of her 2023 singles like “Angel” and “Choose Up.”

What is your earliest memory of music?

Music has been a part of my life as long as I can remember, so I’m not sure. What I do remember is my mom telling me when I was a few months old, she would purposefully put on Mary J. Blige and I would sit up and bounce on beat.

Who inspired you to take music seriously?

My mother. She always told me if I do it, do it fully and always encouraged me to finish what I started. She also exposed me to a lot of art as a child so I’ve always been developing a taste for culture.

Do you know how to play an instrument? If so, which one? If not, which instrument do you want to learn how to play?

Yes, I can play piano and drums. I kinda forgot how to read music, but if I studied for like a month, I’d probably have it down again. I still would also love to learn how to play bass.

What was your first job?

Chipotle. I hated it.

What is your most prized possession?

My mind.

What is your biggest fear?

Not trying or being too enthralled in shame based fear that I don’t have the space to grow.

Who is on your R&B/rap/afrobeats Mt. Rushmore?

The Pharcyde, Lil Wayne, Ladybug Mecca from Digable Planets, and Lauryn Hill.

You get 24 hours to yourself to do anything you want, with unlimited resources: What are you doing? And spare no details!

I don’t know, probably walking around butt ass naked with mad jewelry on eating berries and sh*t through a tea garden in Japan. Then I’d swim in a stream or something & smoke a blunt in a country you probably aren’t supposed to.

What are your three most used emojis?

😭, 🫶🏽, and 🥰.

What’s a feature you need to secure before you die?

Sahbabii, Young Thug, and Veeze.

If you could appear in a future season of a current TV show, which one would it be and why?

Catch me on the next season of Euphoria.

Which celebrity do you admire or respect for their personality and why?

Rihanna, all girls love Rihanna. She’s a boss, she’s that girl.

Share your opinion on something no one could ever change your mind about.

Too many people associate their own value to what they are able to provide monetarily and that gives you low self-esteem which actually makes it harder to live anyway.

What is the best song you’ve ever heard in your life and what do you love about it?

Maybe Sade’s “Smooth Operator” because it’s smooth and player. It feels like an immersive experience each time I hear it.

What’s your favorite city in the world to perform, and what’s a city you’re excited to perform in for the first time?

Favorite city is probably Los Angeles, they show me hella love. I’m looking forward to some day performing in London or Tokyo.

You are throwing a music festival. Give us the dream lineup of 5 artists that will perform with you and the location where it would be held.

Rihanna, Future, Sade, 03 Greedo, and Veeze.

What would you be doing now if it weren’t for music?

Probably in school for psychology/sociology doing political justice work, which I do now anyway, but I’d have all my focus on that.

If you could see five years into the future or go five years into the past, which one would you pick and why?

Probably the past to give myself advice. I don’t really want to know my future, just live life man.

What’s one piece of advice you’d go back in time to give to your 18-year-old self?

Don’t date. Worry about how you gone get this bag, protect yourself, and prioritize your rest. Don’t compromise your comfort for others.

It’s 2050. The world hasn’t ended, and people are still listening to your music. How would you like it to be remembered?

Authentic. Real. Game for hustlers and women.

Kanye West’s ‘Vultures Listening Experience’ Setlist Nearly Put His Complete Catalog On Display In South Korea

It was probably only a matter of time before Kanye West absconded from the US entirely, as he continues to suffer the consequences of his own actions. As a reminder, those actions included spreading antisemitic memes, sexually harassing business partners, and terrorizing anyone who questioned him.

But, the show must go on (apparently), and since no one stateside seems willing to put up with his antics anymore, he performed his latest Vultures Listening Experience in South Korea, where the impact of his actions has undoubtedly been muted by cultural differences. While performing at the Goyang Stadium in Goyang-si, South Korea, he played not only songs from his new album, but also from across his discography, including fan favorites like “All Falls Down,” “Gold Digger,” “Stronger,” “Heartless,” “Power,” “Black Skinhead,” and many, many more, all while shouting out former labelmates and rivals. Cash Cobain is unstoppable in 2024. In recent years, few artists have created a lane for themselves and not only thrived in it, but had the music world jumping at opportunities to take part the way he has. Since the start of the year, Cobain has made an excellent case that sexy drill could stick around for good in hip-hop. His 2024 singles — “Dunk Contest,” “Fisherr,” “Rump Punch,” and “Problem” — have all been standout moments that stamped and elevated his position in the rap game. Now, he takes it a step further with the release of his debut album, Play Cash Cobain.

The Bronx rapper and producer’s debut album is a 19-track promotion of daytime fun and nighttime debauchery. In short, it’s fun! Play Cash Cobain is a display of growth from Cobain, who rose to prominence by sampling R&B songs for his sexy drill record and earning a reputation as one of music’s horniest artist. While his sexy drill production thrives with or without a sample, Play Cash Cobain provides plenty of great sample moments.

“Act Like”

Sample: Tyrese’s “How You Gonna Act Like That” & Pop Smoke’s “For The Night”

“Act Like” was one of the most anticipated songs from Cash Cobain’s album. The track was previously teased by Slizzy member Marni and other associates during a livestream, and fans like myself quickly latched themselves to the record. “Act Like” begins with a sample of the first verse from Tyrese’s 2002 track “How You Gonna Act Like That” before Cash’s sexy drill production arrives. Echoes of Tyrese singing “it seems like” play throughout the track before the chorus arrives and in comes an interpolation of Pop Smoke’s “For The Night.” Cash thrives at using just enough of the sample for the song he creates, and this is a great example of that.

“All I Wanna Hear”

Sample: Elephant Man’s “Pon de River, Pon de Bank”

Jamaican dancehall singer Elephant Man’s most recognizable song is at the center of the third track on Cash Cobain’s debut album. “Pon de River, Pon de Bank,” an uptempo, high energy record, is slowed down for a more chill experience. On it, Cobain proves why he’s rap’s horniest artist with lines like “She said all I rap about is sex / I said, ‘That’s all I wanna hear,’” and “The other nickname for my d*ck is Jeff / It be Hardy.” This is what you get with the Cash Cobain experience and it’s a fun one to say the least. As for the sample, slowing down the keys on “Pon de River, Pon de Bank” is a simple yet very effective decision.

“CantSleep/DrunkInLuv”

Sample: H-Town’s “Knockin’ Da Boots”

Cash Cobain takes it back to 1993 with a sample of H-Town’s “Knockin’ Da Boots” for this song’s first half, “CantSleep.” Cash Cobain and H-Town both have the same energy, pursuing a foray into the bedroom. Once there, sleep is the last thing on the agenda as Cash suggests, but to H-Town’s point, “Knockin’ Da Boots” seems to be the priority. After introducing his song with a couple of lines from the hook of “Knockin’ Da Boots,” Cobain lets H-Town’s “good love” croons repeat in the background for the remainder of the song.

“Dunk”

Sample: Soulja Boy’s “Donk”

In a rare upbeat moment from Cobain, the Bronx native takes on Soulja Boy’s “Donk” for “Dunk.” While the focus of Soulja Boy’s “Donk” is to praise a woman’s assets, Cobain’s “Dunk” incorporates the same bluntless to achieve his goal of ending the night with a woman. He gets the job done with the same drum pattern as Soulja Boy’s original track, and in the end, we get a new sample of how expansive Cobain’s artistry can be.

“Problem”

Sample: Laila!’s “Not My Problem”

The singles Cash Cobain put out ahead of his album all did their job in grabbing the world’s attention. “Dunk Contest” was a great appetizer for the summer hit songs that “Fisherrr” and “Rump Punch” turned out to be. Next came “Problem” which samples Laila!’s “Not My Problem” and turned her record into a massive posse cut. For seven minutes, Cobain, Fabolous, Kenzo B, Big Sean, Lay Bankz, Luh Tyler, Anycia, Chow Lee, Kaliii, 6LACK, Flo Milli, YN Jay, Flee, Don Q, and Rob49 laid quick verses as Laila!’s “problem” and “not my problem” chants play at the end of each line. “Problem” is a great and fun moment on the album, and proof that everyone wants a part of Cobain’s sexy drill sound.

Hurricane Chris Claims He’s Cool With 50 Cent After Dissing Him In Viral Rant

Hurricane Chris has had a rollercoaster week. The rapper went viral for criticizing 50 Cent’s Humor & Harmony Festival in Shreveport, Louisiana. He appreciated the love (and the money) 50 brought to the city, but lamented the fact that no local artists were involved. Hurricane Chris, for context, was born and raised in Shreveport. He labeled 50 Cent a “culture vulture” for his antics. He also took the G-Unit rapper to task for spending $500K on law enforcement during the four day festival. After a few days, though, the rapper had a change of heart.

Hurricane Chris clarified his feelings toward 50 Cent on August 22. He told KSLA News 12 that he has no personal issues with the G-Unit rapper, and felt like he’d been misunderstood. Calling someone “culture vulture” seems pretty pointed, but we digress. “It’s no hate,” Hurricane Chris told the outlet. “It’s all love, but I must voice my opinion because I been here, and I been in Shreveport.” The rapper went on to note that his negative comments toward 50 was a “big misunderstanding.” He even said that he’d be willing to collaborate with the rapper at some point in the future.

Hurricane Chris Is Open To Collaborating With 50 Cent

The real issue Hurricane Chris had with the event was the lack of local exposure. He appreciated what 50 was doing for his hometown. He just felt like hometown artists should have been present. “[Shreveport does] have artists,” the rapper told the outlet. “A lot of artists, more artists than that I can’t even name that would rock stages like that. It’s not about me.” Hurricane Chris once again made sure that he was square with 50 following his viral remarks. “I definitely had no malice,” he concluded. “It was just me wanting to see my community be respected… I was in one of those moods.”

50 Cent didn’t respond to Hurricane Chris’ retraction, but he did respond to the rapper’s initial disses. 50 responded exactly the way you would expect: memes and mockery. The G-Unit mastermind fired back at Hurricane Chris by dubbing him a one-hit wonder. “Oh no you not gonna play that one song you got,” he wrote on his Instagram Story. “Bay Bay just went on stage wit Master P.” In a separate IG Story, 50 Cent flat out called Chris wack. “Boy ya sh*t is wack,” he wrote. “Ya sh*t gets no play in my ride.” Hurricane Chris definitely picked a fight with the wrong guy. Hopefully 50 agrees to bury the hatchet.
