In recent days, Cardi B, whose father is Dominican and whose mother is Trinidadian, has received some push-back for describing herself with the term “light skin.” This has led to some debates on X (formerly Twitter).

As Complex notes, one user wrote, “Who tf told Cardi B she’s light skin? That term is used for lighter complexion black folks but y’all got everybody claiming it now.” Cardi replied, “Dominicans are so diverse when it comes to skin color Dark ,brown ,tan, light ,white ….sooo what am I supposed to say when I’m describing my complexion…Im Dominican skin ?”

Somebody else wrote, “idk maybe y’all need to come up with yall own terms.. ‘light skinned’ is used to describe BLACK people. Not whites, Dominicans, Mexicans, Asians… BLACKS!! You can’t just use the word to mean whatever you want it to mean chica.” Cardi responded, “what you saying is automatically invalid. The fact that you use whites … WHITES IS A COLOR AND A RACE ..DOMINICANS ARE A NATIONALITY WITH PEOPLE that are different COLORS AND SHADES ..NOT A RACE … Get your glitter hole out of here wit this fake rule you just came up wit.”

Cardi said in another tweet, “The term light skin is adjective to describe skin complexion …It is not exclusive to a single race …l guess Jamaicans and Haitians and West Indians can’t say they got brown skin ,light skin or dark skin because just like Dominicans they are also a nationality..now move JAWS.”

This comes shortly after Cardi refuted accusations that she had bleached her skin.

Diddy Accuser’s Lawyer Responds To His Legal Team’s “Disturbing” Motion To Dismiss

The legal battle between Diddy and his accusers rages on. Its latest development concerns accuser April Lampros, who claims he committed sexual assault on at least four separate occasions as well as battery, infliction of emotional distress, and gender-motivated violence. According to court documents reportedly obtained by AllHipHop, her legal team responded to Sean Combs’ team’s motion to dismiss with a contesting move on Monday (September 2). Specifically, Lampros’ lawyer Tyrone Blackburn motioned to add new allegations to her complaint and to remove the claims of emotional distress against Sony Music and other parties.

“At this time, the plaintiff seeks leave of the court to amend its complaint to withdraw the negligent infliction of emotional distress claim against corporate defendants and to add additional facts to remedy the issues in the pleading identified by the defendants in their respective motions to dismiss,” Blackburn stated. Furthermore, it seems like this motion seeks to shift focus from corporate defendants’ alleged infliction of emotional distress. Instead, it wants to highlight how Diddy and his team’s assessment of Lampros’ attorney is an allegedly misleading one.

For those unaware, Diddy’s team motioned to dismiss due in part to Blackburn’s alleged lack of credibility. These claims include accusations of pressuring settlements and filing improper cases for the sake of media attention. In response, Lampros’ lawyer claimed that the Bad Boy mogul’s team developed a “sick obsession” with him that became “disturbing” after initially being “flattering.” “[Combs and Bad Boy Records’] counsels attach themselves to a single sentence of an opinion of an unrelated case to try and classify the plaintiff’s pleading as ‘salacious’ or meritless with the sole intent of forcing defendants to ‘settle,’” Blackburn wrote.

“For starters, plaintiff never requested a settlement from defendants [Diddy] and [Bad Boy Records],” he continued. “The plaintiff intends to hold [Diddy] and [Bad Boy] accountable for their actions before a jury of their peers. Secondly, although this writer picks his clients, he does not pick their facts. If [Diddy] had not engaged in salacious criminal behavior, this writer would not have had anything salacious to file. [Diddy’s] counsels should spend their time teaching him lessons he clearly missed growing up as a child: 1. No means no, and 2. men should never put their hands (or feet) on women.” Blackburn also represents another accuser of Combs’, Lil Rod. In addition to this case, there are also multiple others.

Cleotrapa Moves Past Ice Spice Tour Drama, Joins Azealia Banks for Halloween Performance

Screen Shot 2024 09 05 at 8.05.16 AM

Cleotrapa is forging ahead after her tumultuous experience touring with Ice Spice, finding support and a new opportunity with rap veteran Azealia Banks. The 26-year-old rapper, who recently exposed her former friend Ice Spice in a 6-part TikTok series, is set to perform alongside Banks at Terminal 5 in New York City on Halloween.

Azealia Banks, 33, took to X (formerly Twitter) on September 4 to announce the collaboration, using the moment to throw shade at Ice Spice, 24, for her alleged mistreatment of Cleotrapa during the U.S. leg of her Y2K! World Tour. The “212” artist made it clear that Cleotrapa will have a much better experience this time around, emphasizing the respect and professionalism she plans to extend to her fellow artist.

“I don’t like how everyone is trying to make Cleotrapa look. Any fcking who @iamcleotrapa will be performing with me on Halloween Oct 31. at @Terminal5NYC,” Banks wrote. “She will be paid, have her own space to glam, whatever she wants on her rider… because I have fcking respect & class.”

The post comes after Cleotrapa detailed the alleged mistreatment she endured on tour with Ice Spice, including not being paid, having to cover her own hotel and food expenses, and being isolated from the rest of the tour crew. These allegations have sparked widespread conversation on social media, with many fans rethinking their support for Ice Spice, a Grammy Award nominee.

Banks didn’t stop at defending Cleotrapa; she also took direct aim at Ice Spice’s manager, James Rosemond Jr., who had previously blamed the tour debacle on Cleotrapa and her team in a series of posts on X. Banks was quick to call out Rosemond, criticizing him for his comments.

“Ice Spice’s manager is a bird *ss n*gg* 4 trying to add insult to injury when a young girl is expressing how she feels. He’s trying to make Cleo look like an amateur when the fact that he’s even chiming in at all is ghetto, low class and a huge sign of having zero skin in the game,” Banks wrote. She added, “How about he get his artist some filler for those smile lines, she’s aging like f*cking milk.”

While Ice Spice has addressed some of the allegations, the damage may have already been done. The claims of mistreatment have undoubtedly affected the public’s perception of her, despite her recent success and accolades.

Will Smith and Paramount Pictures Sued for Copyright Infringement Over ‘Gemini Man’

Independence Day Director Says Will Smith Was Nearly Rejected For Role Because Hes Black

Will Smith and Paramount Pictures find themselves at the center of a seven-figure lawsuit, as science fiction author Kissinger Sibanda accuses them of copyright infringement. The lawsuit claims that the 2019 film Gemini Man plagiarized Sibanda’s 2011 novel The Return to Gibraltar.

According to court documents obtained by In Touch, Sibanda, an American/South African national who is also an attorney, alleges that the concept of Gemini Man—which follows a former hitman targeted by a younger clone of himself—bears significant similarities to his book. Sibanda’s novel centers around an African American character who is cloned and unwillingly involved in a time-traveling program, a narrative he believed would be a perfect fit for Will Smith as the lead.

The lawsuit claims that the defendants, which include Will Smith, Skydance Productions, Gemini Pictures, Paramount Pictures, and several others, copied themes, plots, characterizations, and cultural subtexts from The Return to Gibraltar to create Gemini Man. Sibanda also alleges that after releasing his book in 2011, the defendants altered their marketing strategy for the film, reflecting the ideas from his novel.

Gemini Man, directed by Ang Lee and starring Will Smith, had been in development since 1997, with various A-list actors attached over the years. The screenplay was credited to Darren Lemke, David Benioff, and Billy Ray, with no mention of Sibanda’s work.

Sibanda’s lawsuit states that he shared his book idea with Will Smith’s stunt double in 2012, although he admits he cannot recall the stunt double’s name. He believes limited discovery could reveal the individual, as the defendants likely have records of Smith’s stunt doubles. Sibanda also claims to have sent a copy of his book to William Morris Endeavor, a top Hollywood talent agency, further bolstering his argument that his work was appropriated.

In 2020, Sibanda sent a legal letter to the defendants seeking resolution, but he alleges he never received a response. Instead, he claims the defendants offered a “zero-dollar walk away,” prompting him to file the lawsuit demanding $1.7 million in damages.

Gemini Man, despite its high-profile cast and a reported budget of $138 million, was not a commercial success, grossing only $173 million worldwide. As of now, Will Smith and the other defendants have yet to respond to the lawsuit.
