Freddie Gibbs has been laying low for a few years. The rapper hasn’t had a full-length release since $oul $old $eperately in 2022. Slowly, but surely, though, Freddie Gibbs has been laying the groundwork for a return. He dropped a stellar guest verse on the remix to Leon Thomas’ single “Mutt.” He tweeted out that he loves to pick things up “where we left off.” The rapper kicked the anticipation for new music into high gear on October 2, though. His teased that something major was around the corner via his Instagram.

Freddie Gibbs posted the cryptic message “It’s almost about that time” on his Instagram Story. No photo or additional context, just a black background. He knows what fans want, and it looks like he’s just about ready to give it to them. Gibbs’ message, coupled with the earlier tweet about picking up where “we” left off has many fans theorizing that he could be working on a third joint album with Madlib. The rapper and producer combo have already dropped two beloved albums, Pinata and Bandana, so rounding out the trilogy seems like the logical next step.

Freddie Gibbs Has Been Teasing Fans For Months

Plus, Freddie Gibbs and Madlib teased a third joint album earlier this year. The duo performed a set to commemorate the anniversary of Pinata in May. They welcomed a passionate crowd at the New York City venue Rooftop, and before they played anything, they made an announcement. “Y’all ready for Freddie Gibbs?,” Madlib asked the crowd. “[I’m] about to drop this live sh*t on y’all. Montana up next.” Without any warning, the producer confirmed the existence and title of the next MadGibbs effort.

Freddie Gibbs has been quiet on the interview front, but he recently received a shout out from producer Kaytranada. The producer told Complex Magazine that Gibbs was one of the first rappers who made him feel comfortable after he came out as gay in 2016. “Freddie Gibbs was one of the first artists that was like, ‘I’m proud of you, man, keep doing your thing,’” Kaytranada explained. “I thought that was crazy. That gave me hope.” The two artists have worked on multiple songs together over the years, including “My Dope House” and the Kaytramine release “letstalkaboutit.”

Kai Cenat Announces Streaming Return And Vows To Break Twitch Record

Kai Cenat is one of the biggest streamers in the world. He’s especially big in the world of hip hop. Before he announced his plans to retire in September, he was regularly debuting singles from megastars on his streams. He was even mentioned by Drake on the song “Push Ups.” Cenat claimed that he was giving it all up, though, to pursue a basketball career. The streamer stated that he wanted to be a legit prospect, and tweeted his plans to dedicate himself to the sport. Then, on October 2, he changed his mind.

Kai Cenat announced his retirement from the Little Ballers League he helped start on Wednesday. In the same breath, he revealed his plans to become a streamer again. “I think I’m gonna have to go back to streaming when I retire,” he said to uproarious applause. “I’m going back to streaming. I got a new goal I gotta get.” When the sideline reporter asked Cenat about this goal, he made it clear that he’s shooting for the top. He plans to get back to work in an attempt break the all time subscriber count on Twitch.

Kai Cenat’s decision is probably a smart one. Lil Yachty attended one of the games the streamer put on for his Little Ballers League, and basically said as much. “That took a lot of courage,” Boat said. “[But] he should come out of retirement… cuse this ain’t a promising career.” The rapper went on to clown Cenat’s playing ability and praise his knack for coming up with entertaining content. “I think he is so innovative,” Lil Yachty explained. “As far as like content creating. You can say what you want.” Kai Cenat’s profile has continued to rise in the past couple years, to the extent that he’s being featured on albums by platinum selling artists. He’s slated to appear, alongside Speed, on the upcoming Lil Durk song “War Scars.”

As far Kai Cenat’s goal, he isn’t far off from achieving it. The streamer has the fourth-most subs on the entire Twitch platform. He had the most at one point, but he was subsequently usurped. He talked about the pressure, and the challenge, of maintaining the number one spot during a 2023 profile with Complex. “It feels good, but I feel like I still have a lot of work to get done,” Cenat stated. “I can’t get comfortable.” At the end of the day, of course, the streamer’s ability to entertain people (and his celebrity friends) are going to be what get him to the finish line. “As long as I’m able to entertain people and make them happy, that’s the best thing ever,” he asserted.

The pop icon was recently leaving a party when journalists approached her and began asking her about the Diddy scandal. She was asked whether she had ever attended one of the mogul’s alleged “freak offs,” and she gave a characteristically Rihanna answer.

The questions were quick and direct. “Did you attend any of P. Diddy’s parties,” the singer was asked while being escorted by her security. “Were you involved in any of the ‘freak offs’?” It was the second line of questioning that elicited a response. Rihanna couldn’t help but crack a smirk, and she can be seen and heard mumbling the phrase “that’s crazy” as she gets in her vehicle. The timing of her response was not lost on the journalists, who can be heard laughing behind the camera. The singer might find the whole thing crazy, but this question has seemingly become the norm for fans and journalists.

Rihanna and Diddy have not have many interactions over the years. At least, publicly. They have been photographed together at parties and public events. They exchanged niceties during the 2014 iHeart Radio Music Awards when they were both onstage. Diddy also commented on the domestic abuse that Rihanna suffered at the hands of Chris Brown. Unsurprisingly, the mogul’s comments have aged very poorly in light of the allegations made against him. “We know sometimes those relationships get ugly, you know,” he said during a 2009 appearance on Ellen.

People want to know who was and wasn’t involved with Diddy’s alleged crimes. Joe Budden, a man who gets paid to talk about other artists for a living, felt the need to set the record straight during his podcast. “For the last time, can y’all take me off the list of names that y’all think is on these tapes,” the ex-rapper asked. “I ran the jokes long but I thought the joke was a joke because of who I be.” Then there was Trick Daddy. The Miami rapper went on Instagram Live and threatened to beat up the next person who asked if he ever attended a Diddy party. “I’mma slap the sh*t out you,” he asserted. “They don’t like my kind at them parties.”

Nicki Minaj dished out lots of kind words for her son’s fourth birthday. She posted numerous messages to her “Papa Bear” on Instagram and Twitter. One of them including her son and husband, Kenneth Petty, playing at a park. Minaj decided to throw her happy marriage in the face of those who criticize her and Petty in the media. One fan thought the timing was odd, given that the post was supposed to be about Minaj’s son’s birthday. “Only you could make your child birthday about a man,” the fan wrote. Well, let’s just say the rapper didn’t like that.

Nicki Minaj rolled up her sleeves and let said fan have it full blast. She literally provided a bullet point list of reasons as to why she was right, and the fan questioning her was wrong. The opening section of the tweet is absolutely vicious, and would have gotten the point across by itself. “Dear weak loser,” it stated. “Tweeting about someone else’s bday b/c you have nothing to rejoice about in your own sad existence. & clearly don’t feel loved & definitely not paid attention to due to your ugliness…” That was how the tweet started!

From there, Nicki Minaj justifies her reasoning for posting about Kenneth Petty. She points out that a pic takes one second out of the day, so the focus was still very much on “Papa Bear.” She noted that people who have too much time on their hands are obsessed her. Most importantly, she noted that Petty was the father of her son, and not just a random man. “His father, my husband,” she wrote. “Not a man, you funky piece of filth.” If you are a fan of Nicki Minaj meltdowns, then you are in for a treat. It gets more intense as it goes on.

The bulleted tweet just becomes an excuse for Minaj to call the fan every horrible name she can think of. Seriously. “GO TEACH THAT DINGY P**SY OR B**SY SOME NEW TRICKS,” she wrote in all caps. “You’re gonna need it when those Twitter checks clear up. GAGGGGGGGG.” Nicki Minaj proceeds to make yet another list in the same post. This time, of her many (and admittedly impressive) accomplishments over the years. 50 Cent Explained He’d ‘Have To Tap Into The Stupid Side Of Me’ To Write New Music, So He’s Simply Not Making New Music

Last week, Variety reported that Netflix landed 50 Cent’s previously teased documentary about Diddy’s ongoing abuse allegations. The in-production documentary will be directed by Alexandria Stapleton and executive-produced by 50 Cent.

50 Cent’s G-Unit Film & Television previously signed a separate deal with Lionsgate. This summer, 50 Cent told The Hollywood Reporter that he’s “the only one from hip-hop culture that’s produced quality projects.”

You’ll notice none of that has to do with music.

The iconic rapper has a reason for that.

“My ideas are getting so big that it’s changing even how I can deliver things,” 50 Cent said during a panel with Earn Your Leisure at Invest Fest last month. “I have to be conscious of what I’m saying or what I’m doing because the idea — it’s going to disrupt my idea. A lot of the music, if you listen to the music that’s out right now, I have to tap into my stupid. I have to tap into the stupid side of me to write the right thing when it comes time to write the music.”

He continued, “This is why I haven’t created as much content as I was creating in the past, and I started going toward the film production and development of these projects. Because I think I can impact things in a bigger way through that.”

Drake and LeBron James have always been linked. They were championed as the successors to JAY-Z and Michael Jordan, and for many, they’ve lived up to the hype. They are defining pop culture figures of the 2010s, and continue to put up massive numbers despite being veterans. The parallels were easy to make because Drake LeBron James were friends. They supported each other’s careers, and spoke very highly of each other’s skills. Then, the Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar battle happened, and all that changed.

LeBron James seemingly took Lamar’s side in the battle. He attended the rapper’s “Pop Out” show on Juneteenth. He went viral for dancing in the audience to multiple performances of the Drake diss “Not Like Us.” LeBron James was also filmed telling Steph Curry how much he liked the song during the U.S. Olympics run. It makes sense that Drake felt betrayed by his high-profile friend. The rapper decided to unfollow James on Instagram on October 1. Then, a day later, James decided to throw it back and play Drake music during warm-ups.

LeBron James Took Shots To Drake’s “Free Smoke”

The Lakers Daily Twitter account posted footage of LeBron James and the rest of the L.A. team getting ready for practice. The legendary athlete is front-and-center, taking shots while Drake’s 2017 song “Free Smoke” plays in the background. The specific choice of song is worth noting. Drake’s kickoff to the More Life playlist is packed with subliminal bars and disses aimed at his enemies. There’s a certain irony in the fact that LeBron James is now seemingly counted among these enemies.

Rumors of Drake and LeBron James falling out have surfaced in the past. There was a going theory for a while that the Toronto rapper took shots at James on the 2023 song “Songs About My Brother.” There’s a few bars in which he tells an unidentified person that they aren’t on the level of the late Kobe Bryant. It didn’t gain much traction, though, as others theorized (and provided more evidence) that Drake wanted smoke with Kung-Fu Kenny instead. Regardless, the Instagram unfollow makes it pretty clear that things between these generational talents are not good as they once were. Nothing was the same.

The Chixtape rapper recently honored legendary rapper Trina while announcing the re-release of his mixtape, reflecting on her crucial support early in his career. In an inspirational Instagram post, Lanez shared that around a decade ago, he was struggling financially, sleeping in his ex-girlfriend’s car and on his manager’s couch. His fortunes shifted when Trina stepped in to help him.

Otis Redding Biopic Set With John Boyega, Danielle Deadwyler To Star

Here’s some news in the world of iconic adaptation from the culture. John Boyega and Danielle Deadwyler are set to lead the biopic Otis & Zelma, which will portray the life of soul legend Otis Redding and his wife, Zelma. The project, directed by Channing Godfrey Peoples and written by Donnetta Lavinia Grays, was first reported by Variety. The film is being produced by Fifth Season, Homegrown Pictures, and Kinfolk Management + Media, and is fully supported by Zelma Redding and the Otis Redding estate.

Here’s the story that they will tell. The film will reportedly focus on the couple’s love story, which spanned just 10 years before Redding’s tragic death in a plane crash in 1967, at the age of 26. According to an early synopsis, the film “celebrates the 10 short years Otis and Zelma had together, and their eternal love story after his passing.” It also emphasizes Zelma’s efforts over the past 56 years to preserve her husband’s musical legacy, which she continues to uphold.

If you’re not well versed, Redding’s career left a lasting impact on music, earning him two Grammy Awards, the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Black Music & Entertainment Hall of Fame, and Songwriters Hall of Fame. His legacy will be further honored with a posthumous induction into the Hollywood Walk of Fame on October 4. Ana Martinez, producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies, stated, “The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is honored to dedicate a star to the legendary Otis Redding, whose music continues to inspire generations.” The ceremony will include speeches by Killer Mike, with Jimmy Jam serving as emcee, and Redding’s daughter, Karla Redding, accepting the star on his behalf.

Get this, in an interview last year with BMI, Zelma Redding reflected on the importance of preserving Otis’ legacy: “He left so much special music for everybody. But I really have to commend my family and myself to continue this legacy because you cannot have a legacy if you don’t work it. We have everything we need for Otis Redding and that’s why we work so hard to preserve and protect his legacy. We wouldn’t know any way to do it without it.”

Westside Gunn Unveils Release Date For New Album “Still Praying”

Westside Gunn has been quiet, but he’s also been busy. The Griselda rapper has been popping up every few weeks on social media to give fans new pieces of information. He dropped the album cover and title for his upcoming project, Still Praying, in September. He also claimed to have recorded his next release in a single day. The information fans were really waiting on, though, finally came to light on October 2. Westside Gunn confirmed the release date for Still Praying, and it’s sooner than we anticipated.

The anticipated album will drop on November 1. Westside Gunn confirmed this date on Instagram, along with a lengthy message on what Still Praying means to his career. Evidently, the album is much more than another collection of hard beats and bars. “Still Praying is the beginning of a new era of Griselda Records I promise y’all,” he wrote. “I’m a make sure y’all never forget this sh*t, just support the art and watch how life change for the better.” Westside Gunn then compared the new album to Flygod Is An Awesome God, which remains one of his most beloved releases.

“Flygod Is an Awesome God, when everybody thought I was just chillin,” he added. “I was actually curating the illest art (wrestling/fashion/music) I ever made. The “perfectly curated” album will also boast one of the coldest album covers in the entire Griselda catalog. Gunn chose a textless photo of the late wrestler Sid Vicious. The rapper is a longtime fan of the sport, and Vicious, a personal favorite of his, passed away in August.

Westside Gunn and the rest of the Griselda label are known for dropping multiple albums a year. Gunn, for example, put out eight projects between 2020 and 2022. It’s truly a mind-boggling state, one that makes Future looks like he needs to put more work in the studio. The rapper has taken his foot off the gas in recent years, however. His last album, And Then You Pray for Me, was released in 2023, and he’s been taking his time ever since. We can’t wait to hear what he’s been cooking up.
