Drea Kelly knows a thing or two about controversial celebrity culture, and the type of scrutiny that public figures get for either justified or unjustified reasons. On that last note, she recently spoke during a conversation with Carlos King on how Beyonce handles her haters and the amount of narratives that launched against her over the years. Overall, it’s not that different from other remarks about trolls and negative energy on the Internet that you have heard from other artists and celebrities in the past. But given where we’re at in 2024, it’s hard not to look at this clip in a darker context.

“Beyoncé don’t even do choreography to her own songs,” Drea Kelly remarked. “You ain’t never seen her do it. She ain’t gon’ never do it. […] It was the joy and the smile on her face that did it for me. ‘Cause it wasn’t like – when I say just smiling, happy, in her peace. ‘Cause I am you, and you are me, ma’am. Honey, they done called her everything from a witch to the Illuminati. So for her to know what it’s like to be in this space where people create this narrative about you, they love to hate you, they say what they want to, but they always lurking and watching what you doing.

Beyond Beyoncé, Drea Kelly recently responded to people blaming her for R. Kelly’s alleged abuse of their daughter. She said that she did everything she could to get her out of that situation, but the police always told her that there wasn’t much they could do. Ice Spice has undergone a pretty dramatic fitness journey as of late, and has taken to social media quite often to show off her weight loss in recent months. Of course, a lot of fans expressed their support for her mission to work on herself, whereas others shared more critical perspectives of her transformation. Folks accused the Bronx femcee of using Ozempic or just hated on her new physique. However, it’s clear that she doesn’t put much stock into these troll takes, or at least, she has a lot of energy to respond in kind. The “Think U The S**t” hitmaker seemed to clap back via a recent Instagram post.

Specifically, it’s a meme of a grossed-out Spongebob saying “she mid bro,” seemingly commenting on the types of people who criticize Ice Spice’s looks. There’s nothing like a good meme to rally fans over to your side and engage in some Internet banter in the process. Still, some fan concern could come from more earnest corners, not the blind negativity that she seems to have a particular issue with. But if that were the case, then Spice isn’t responding to that genuine worry just yet.

Maybe she will one day, but given just how much hate she has to deal with online for much more important reasons, she probably has other priorities in mind. Ice Spice has a big career to sustain and nurture, whether that’s through new music or through extracurricular ventures such as her Fortnite collab. While she did receive a lot of negative criticism this year for her musical output, it was also still a massive year for her, and certainly not one that she can’t follow up more explosively in 2025.

Nevertheless, only time will tell if Ice Spice’s star is starting to fade or if it’s just now catching its spark. In either case, she will probably continue to ward the haters off and use all the negative attention towards her to her advantage. Sadly, a lot of female rappers have to adopt this strategy to get to the real meat of criticism towards them, not the misogynistic and close-minded perspective that usually overwhelms their online presences.

Cardi B has responded to users on social media who don’t think she’s been spending enough time with her newborn daughter after she went out with her friends in New York City over the weekend. During a stop at The Stafford Room on Saturday night, she was momentarily at the same location as her ex, Offset, although TMZ reports they came and left separately.

“I be with my baby all day…I need to go out,” Cardi B said on Instagram Live. “I’m going through a divorce right now. If I stay home and f*cking depress myself, that sh*t’s gonna drive me crazy. That’s why I’m working, and the weekends, I’m going out with my girls. So, stop. I don’t ever wanna go through a f*cking postpartum depression ever again, and I’m avoiding that.”

Cardi filed for divorce from Offset, earlier this year, for the second time since their marriage in 2017. She recently confirmed that this time is definitive, however. “Slowly but surely, everybody gotta go their separate ways,” she said during a recent conversation on X Spaces caught by Billboard. “My kids gotta get used to that, ‘No, you’re not going to come home every single day and your dad is gonna be here.’ Slowly, but surely. It’s kinda hard — I don’t wanna talk about it ’cause I don’t wanna get emotional — but it’s kinda hard, as an adult, you gonna get used to a certain type of lifestyle without being with somebody. But it’s also kinda hard for your kids to get used to that, ‘Your dad is not going to be here with you every day after school. Your dad is not going to be picking you up after school.’”

But Fivio Foreign thinks that there’s a particularly enlightening gender dynamic at play when it comes to her female haters. “B***hes hate Spice cuz n***as love spice,” he tweeted on Wednesday night (September 5). Sadly for the Bronx femcee, we’re currently seeing a pretty intense and combative example of this. Cleotrapa claimed that she’s mistreated her a lot while on tour, and her allegations elicited some fan concern over this alleged behavior and around some other past controversies.

However, not everyone is on board the Ice Spice hate train… At least, for this reason. “She don’t have no say over nothing,” Joe Budden recently theorized on his podcast. “She has not sold enough records to be in this position and on tour, every single dollar is accounted for months before we went on tour. I know exactly how much each of these rooms are gonna cost. I know exactly how much the gas is gonna cost. We can’t afford another bus but we got another bus. Okay let’s bring some other people, but those people are for free. There’s no budget. Every single dollar is accounted for.”

Meanwhile, apart from Ice Spice, Fivio Foreign also made a questionable reference to Rick Ross recently, which had fans thinking that it could’ve been a diss. But it turns out that this speculation didn’t go anywhere. Regardless, Fivio’s assessment isn’t the most misleading thing in the world when it comes to the “Princess Diana” hitmaker. While it’s definitely one explanation for a lot of backlash around her, it’s also not the definitive answer.

In fact, she recently apologized to her supporters and thanked them for sticking around regardless after her spat with Joe Budden. “Sometimes I get a little aggressive because y’all know I don’t like to be told what to do. Thank you for the love and anticipation and always holding me down I love y’all”. However, her unpredictable behavior is already making another appearance. According to AllHipHop, The Bronx MC is seemingly fed up with female fanbase in particular. Additionally, you can throw her support of feminism in the trash.

These strong feelings come after Cardi B got into with a female TikTok star, Paradise Paris. The GRAMMY winner and content creator were originally talking about the well-known delay of the rapper’s sophomore album. However, it somehow turned personal. Paris posted a screenshot of IG DMs she sent to Cardi’s hubby Offset right around the time they unfollowed each other amid their split late last year. Paris was making herself available, saying things like, “I got some thangs I wanna do to you”, and “It look like six flags I wanna go WEEEEEEEE”. Fans, especially her female ones, have constantly questioned Cardi and Offset together, but it seems this heated interaction is sending her.

Cardi addressed all of this female hate on an IG Live and stood by entering her “villain era”. She began, “I’m not a feminist no more. You want to know why? Because you could get on social media and your hardest critics is women. Women are always out here looking for ways to talk s*** about other women”, she affirmed. “It’s like it’s like women worst enemies are women, and y’all like to be talking about that it’s men. No, it be y’all b****es”. Going forward, Cardi claims to be dropping the “nice” act and if anyone tries to drag her or her relationship with Offset then “[you better] hope ya page is private”.

Many of the Canadian artist’s biggest fans linked their favorite material to counter this argument, whereas others completely agreed and led die-hards into an even more defensive position. Of course, a lot of people also brought up the Megan Thee Stallion situation as either a point to separate from this conversation or as something that goes beyond it.

Furthermore, we know that Tory Lanez’s conviction for shooting the Houston femcee continues to cause debates online and in person. Megan Thee Stallion was recently exiting a venue when a group of men exclaimed “Free Tory” in her direction, which she reacted hilariously and disrespectfully to. But plenty of folks arguing over the quality of the music don’t take into account that controversy when making their assessments. On the flip-side, a select few would rather use that ammunition to make artistic arguments for or against, which is always a losing battle.

Speaking of that shooting case, at least Tory Lanez got a relatively heartening update when it comes to his legal process. The California court of appeals posited that they will consider his requests for “relevant evidence”; in other words, evidence that would help him in his appeal process. In addition, the court’s decision was a direct answer to the prosecution opposing the motion. As such, we don’t know whether authorities will actually side with Lanez here, but there’s at least a chance that they will improve his chances at a way out.

Meanwhile, this comes amid more disheartening updates when it comes to Tory Lanez’s current situation. His wife filed for divorce during his prison sentence after less than a year of marriage. A lot of ink already tried to speculate on what happened here and why this seemed like such a quick decision during Lanez’s legal process. But it seems like we can’t know for sure yet, at least until somebody sheds more light on the debacle.

Now, however, she’s taken to X to call out someone who frequently disses her online. The user in question had shared a screenshot of her flirty DMs to Offset, who Cardi has two children with. The rappers’ relationship was on the rocks a few months back, but they now seem to have reconciled.

Cardi B was quick to fire back, seeming shocked that the critic went after her and her music simply because they were interested in Offset. “Sooo the whole time this what it was about ? She went on to repost various supporters’ responses to the debacle, mocking the user for the unanswered messages.

It’s a pretty innocuous and awkward moment overall, but one that she handled as quickly as she could have.

However, this isn’t the only reason why Ice Spice’s recent live shows have been the subject of some interesting, albeit ridiculously salacious, discussions online. For example, fans recently debated whether she’s tired of constantly twerking as part of her image based on her facial expressions while throwing it back during a recent set. We don’t know how a facial expression necessarily converts to annoyance, especially when it’s part of a planned performance and it’s been such a common part of the routine so far. Ritualistic fatigue is a very real thing, but to equate it to a dance seems a bit overboard.
