Ice Spice says Taylor Swift shared a valuable piece of advice while they were in the studio together working on “Karma” and she’ll never forget it. Speaking with Billboard for a new interview, she revealed what wisdom the iconic singer imparted to her.

“When I was in the studio with Taylor, like, I’ll never forget that. She told me, ‘No matter what, just keep making music and everything’s going to be fine.,” Spice recalled. The two teamed up for “Karma” back in May 2023. In the time since, they performed at MetLife Stadium and attended Super Bowl LVIII together.

Elsewhere in the interview, Spice discussed working on her debut studio album, Y2K. When asked what she’s listening for as she puts the project together, she explained: “First, a really hard beat. If the beat doesn’t instantly move me — like if I don’t physically feel the beat of the speakers — then I’m just going to keep moving on to the next one. But as soon as I know, I know I have that beat. It’s up from there.” In that vein, she also admitted she didn’t expect “Boy’s a liar, Pt. 2” to be as big as it became. She also had more faith in “Actin a Smoochie.” Spice explained: “I thought that ‘Actin a Smoochie’ would be a bigger song. Every time I hear it, I’m just gagged that it’s not bigger. [But] ‘Boy’s a liar, Pt. 2,’ I never thought that song would be as big as it is. I knew it would be a big moment, but I didn’t think it would be triple-platinum.”

Travis Kelce References Taylor Swift Lyric Change During Super Bowl Press Conference

Travis Kelce made reference to Taylor Swift’s Argentina concert lyric change when asked to “finish the lyric” at a Super Bowl press conference. When asked by a reporter to finish the lyric “Karma is the guy on the…”, Kelce said “Chiefs”. While some outlets reported this moment as Kelce getting the lyric wrong, he was actually making reference to the intentional change Swift made to the lyrics of the song for a concert last year.

Of course, Kelce was hit with a lot of questions about Swift, whose presence at the Super Bowl is in question due to her current tour schedule. Swift is performing in Tokyo until February 10, one day before the Super Bowl in Vegas. Swift and Kelce have been publicly together since Week 3 of the NFL season. However, Swift revealed during her TIME Person of the Year interview that they had been dating for at least a month before their first public outing.

Brock Purdy Asked About Lee Harvey Oswald Resemblance

However, Kelce isn’t the only person getting non-football questions ahead of the Super Bowl. Brock Purdy addressed a meme circulating on social media that he looks like JFK assassin Lee Harvey Oswald. When he was asked about the comparison, Purdy was not thrilled by it. The QB politely dismissed it during a media session ahead of the Super Bowl before moving on. The meme had gone viral throughout the week after someone announced that they had “finally figured out” who Brock Purdy reminded them of. While there is some similarity, it’s fairly fleeting. Furthermore, it’s not as apparent as, say, Ted Cruz’s resemblance to the Zodiac Killer.

However, given the expanded media access that comes with the Super Bowl every year, weird questions are now par for the course. Last year, Eagles coach Nick Sirianni which players he wouldn’t let his daughter date. Sirianni’s answer was that his daughter was four years old. While weird questions are now seen as part of the run-up, it never fails to annoy people. To many fans, and journalists, it points to too lax of a credentialing policy. Furthermore, there is now a trend of people trying too hard to go viral as the “weird question asker”.

Ice Spice Describes Crying After Taylor Swift Reached Out To Collaborate

Earlier today, Ice Spice appeared on Today for an interview that covered a variety of topics for the rapper who had a massive breakthrough in 2023. It comes just a day after she appeared at Spotify’s Best New Artist party where she performed her divisive new song “Think U The Sh*t.” She’s one of two favorites alongside Victoria Monet to eventually take home the Best New Artist award at the Grammys this weekend.

Part of her meteoric rise to fame came from the collaborations she managed to pull last year. She dropped a pair of tracks with Nicki Minaj and a pair of singles with Pinkpantheress and Rema. But her biggest hit came on a remix of an already existing song. That song is “Karma” by Taylor Swift. It originally came out in 2022 on Taylor’s Midnights album before getting a remix on the project’s deluxe edition. The collaboration was a major score for Spice and the resulting song was one of many big hits Taylor had last year. Ice Spice’s Initial Reaction To Collaborating With Taylor Swift

“I started crying when I heard about it. I was like, ‘No, you’re lying. That’s not real!’ I was so emotional, it was like tears of joy, of course. But, just grateful — iconic,” Ice Spice says in the clip. Spice has big plans in 2024 to follow up her breakthrough year. She announced that she has a new album called Y2K dropping later this year.

Ice Spice Says Taylor Swift Is ‘F*cking Hilarious’ And Shares What She’s Learned From Nicki Minaj

Back in May, Taylor Swift released a remix of her Midnights cut, “Karma,” featuring one of rap’s buzziest newcomers, Ice Spice. Though the remix sparked controversy — particularly due to how her supposed then-boyfriend Matty Healy had previously treated Ice — both Ice and Swift have had nothing but positive things to say about each other.

In a recent interview with Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe, Ice broke down how the collaboration came about.

“I was home and my manager called me, and was like, ‘Oh, Taylor wants you on a record.’ And I’m like, ‘Taylor?’” said Ice. “I was having a really bad day also, I would like to say that. I was having a terrible day. I was crying all morning because I was just so mad at something. And then he called me with that news. And then I cried more, because it was good news.”

She then recalled the first time she met Swift and how exciting of an experience it was.

“We went to the studio and [Taylor] is so humble and so nice,” she said. “I kid you not. I pulled up to the studio and she outside waiting for me. So she’s great. She’s so funny. We text all the time. She is f*cking hilarious. I’m not going to lie. She’s the funniest person ever.”

In addition to a Taylor Swift collab, Ice has also dropped to songs with Nicki Minaj this year. Elsewhere in the interview, Ice noted the was in which Minaj has been a mentor to her.

“I feel like I am absorbing advice from [Nicki] and learning from her and stuff,” Ice said. “And she’ll tell me, ‘Learn from my mistake, do this or don’t do that,’ or whatever. And I just really pay attention to what she’s saying. Because if there’s anyone I’m going to listen to it’s the queen.”

In addition to her chart success, Ice Spice’s manager revealed that she maintains ownership of all her music rights. In a Billboard interview, the rapper and her manager, James Rosemond Jr., discussed her business acumen. They also spoke on her journey to fame since bursting onto the scene in August 2022. Being guided by Rosemond Jr. allowed Ice Spice to establish a strong foundation. The manager comes from a background of successful management in the hip-hop industry With a clear vision and the support of a powerful entertainment lawyer, they navigated a bidding war and secured a joint deal with 10K Records and Capitol Records. This deal granted Ice Spice ownership of her masters and publishing, as well as creative freedom.

This strategic approach has set Ice Spice apart. Unlike many artists, she maintains full control over her music without interference from the label side. The collaboration with 10K Records allows her to dictate her own schedule and make artistic decisions independently. Taylor Swift And Ice Spice Drop The Video For “Karma” Remix

Ice Spice has been enjoying a series of great successes over the past year. The winning streak continued when Taylor Swift announced their collaboration. Swift took to social media to reveal that Ice Spice would be featured on the remix of her 2022 track “Karma.” The song is part of Swift’s latest album, Midnights, which she is currently promoting during her tour. Both artists expressed their excitement online. Along with the announcement, Swift shared some almost Interstellar-inspired cover art depicting Spice and Swift in a space-themed setting.

In her announcement post, Swift praised Ice Spice and expressed her admiration for the artist. In fact, she even described herself as a “massive fan.” Despite not being part of the rap community, Swift’s words hold significant weight coming from a successful artist of her caliber. The remix is included in Swift’s new deluxe album, titled Midnights (Til Dawn Edition). Taylor And Ice Are A Surprisingly Good Match

For Ice’s part, it’s quite nice to see her in such a large budget video with such fantastical sets. One might think that she would seem out of her element, but she owns it. During her verse, she sits gracefully in a human sized shell as pearls fall from the sky into the water around her. She and Taylor are a surprisingly good match in the video, as well. Some of Taylor’s fans are not really into the Ice Spice feature. The reasoning they may have is debatable. Many, however, are bothered by the fact that she is dating The 1975 frontman Matt Healy. Earlier this year, he made fun of Ice Spice’s appearance. Now, many are referring to him as a racist and a nazi. One fan said, “That verse was so bad. You can really tell the ‘Karma (Remix)’ was done last minute for damage control to clear Taylor Swift & her [Nazi] boyfriend image after he said all those racist slurs to Ice Spice.” The fan went on to write, “Hope she got a massive cheque though.” Whatever the reason for the collaboration, Ice certainly shines on it. Taylor Swift‘s Midnights (The Til Dawn Edition) is out today. This new version of the album includes “Hits Different,” “Snow On The Beach” with more Lana Del Rey, and a “Karma” remix with Ice Spice.

In a new chat with Spotify, the “Anti-Hero” singer discussed how the unexpected collaboration with the “Munch” rapper happened. She reveals that she had been “listening to Ice Spice constantly” to prepare for The Eras Tour and calls Ice her “new favorite artist.”

She said:

“Collaborating with Ice Spice on ‘Karma’ was one of the most natural things. She reached out through her team just kind of saying, ‘Hey, you know, Ice has been a big fan of Taylor since she was a little kid. We’d love to collaborate if that was ever something that came about.’ And I had been listening to her nonstop like getting ready for my tour I was just listening to Ice Spice constantly. So I immediately got her number and said, ‘Hey, would you want to do your version of ‘Karma’? Do you relate to this? And so she jumped in headfirst and getting to know her has been so special because I’m blown away by her. She is — in my opinion — she is the one to watch. Just watching her work ethic and how thoughtfully she approaches her career — she’s like my new favorite artist and I’m so honored that she’s on the song. So, yeah, what a joy!”

It’s been a big past few days in terms of Ice Spice linking up with legends, as she’s also teaming up with Nicki Minaj for a new version of “Barbie Girl.”

Ice Spice’s Good ‘Karma’ Landed Her A Feature On Taylor Swift’s New Remix That’s Dropping Soon

How can she lose if she’s already chose? Following the release of her “Princess Diana” remix with Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice seems to be collecting A-list collaborators like Infinity Stones. Her latest collab comes in the form of a remix to “Karma,” the latest single from Taylor Swift‘s 10th studio album, Midnights.

Swift herself took to social media today (May 24) to confirm the news. The “Karma” remix will arrive this Friday, along with a special edition of Midnights called Midnights (The Til Dawn Edition).

“I’m a massive fan of this brilliant artist and after getting to know her I can confirm: she is THE ONE to watch,” said Swift in her Instagram post’s caption. “So delighted to say that Karma Featuring the incredible @icespice will be out TOMORROW night at MIDNIGHT ET as a part of the new Midnights (The Til Dawn Edition) deluxe album.”

Additionally, Midnights (The Til Dawn Edition) will feature a new version of “Snow On The Beach,” with more vocals from Lana Del Rey, as well as the song “Hits Different,” which was previously only available on the Target CD edition of Midnights.
