Six O-Block Members Convicted in the Murder of FGB Duck

FBG Duck 945x598 1

A federal jury in Chicago has convicted six men from O-Block for the murder of FBG Duck in the Gold Coast shopping area of the city.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the deliberation lasted two full days, wrapping a trial over three months. Duck, born Carlton Weekly, was killed in front of a store on Aug. 4, 2020. His girlfriend and another shopper were injured in the shooting.

Federal investigators tied the murder to a gang war between Duck’s Tookaville faction of the Gangster Disciples and the O Block set of the Black Disciples, including diss songs between Duck and the late King Von. Investigators believe Von placed a bounty on Duck.

Court docs revealed O Block members planned out shootings and a drug operation in regular meetings. Duck’s murder was to increase their reputation.

Convicted was Charles “C Murda” Liggins, an alleged shooter, on five of seven counts and Kenneth “Kenny Mac” Roberson, an alleged getaway driver, guilty under the same counts. Tacarlos “Los” Offerd, another alleged getaway driver, was found guilty of five counts. Christopher “C Thang” Thomas, another alleged shooter, was found guilty of three counts: murder, using a gun in the murder and conspiracy to commit the murder. Ralph “Teezy” Turpin, who tipped off the shooting, was found guilty of murder and conspriacy to commit murder. Marcus “Muwop” Smart, 24, another alleged gunman, was found guilty of five counts.

Another alleged gunman, Ezell Rawls, committed suicide during the investigation.

Two cars in the shooting were tracked to the shooting scene using surveillance cameras.

Screen Shot 2024 01 17 at 1.04.10 PM

Ice-T and Coco Austin’s youngest, 8-year-old daughter Chanel, is gearing up to make her mark in the entertainment industry, following in the footsteps of her famous parents. The rapper and actor opened up about Chanel’s budding interest in acting during the Law & Order: SVU 25th-anniversary celebration in New York City on Tuesday night.

While attending the event with his wife Coco Austin, who has made cameo appearances on Law & Order: SVU three times, Ice-T shared his excitement about the possibility of Chanel making a guest appearance on the long-running show. “Hell yeah!” he enthusiastically replied when asked about Chanel’s potential cameo.

Surprisingly, it turns out that Chanel and Ryan Buggle, who plays Noah (son of Mariska Hargitay’s Olivia Benson) on the show, share the same agents. “We didn’t even know that. She just got an agent,” revealed Coco Austin, shedding light on Chanel’s recent steps into the world of acting.

Ice-T recounted how Chanel was disappointed about missing the celebration and expressed her displeasure to the babysitter. Despite trying to explain their work commitments, Ice-T admitted, “She looked at the babysitter like, ‘Really?! Really?’”

This revelation comes as Ice-T and Coco Austin navigate parenthood with Chanel alongside Ice-T’s other children: daughter LeTesha, 47, and son Tracy Jr., 32. Ice-T also shared his insights into parenting in a previous interview with PEOPLE in August, emphasizing the importance of parental guidance over control.

“The key to having kids is having parental guidance — not necessarily parental control, but guidance to help them understand what it is,” Ice-T explained. He shared anecdotes about his older kids, expressing pride in the musical choices they made during their formative years.

“I just felt like it’s all rock. And when you talk, it’s kind of like they grow up with you and you share that common bond which is beautiful. It’s beautiful,” Ice-T remarked, highlighting the unique connection formed through shared experiences, including a shared appreciation for music.

[WATCH] Dr. Umar Johnson Sparks Controversy With Views On Promiscuity, Rappers And Colorism

Screen Shot 2024 01 17 at 12.17.51 PM

In a recent appearance on the “Highly Initiated” podcast, social media influencer Dr. Umar Johnson stirred up more controversy with his statements linking emotional damage to sexual promiscuity in women. The podcast, which aired on January 14, featured Dr. Umar expressing his views on the impact of emotional trauma on relationships.

During the discussion, Dr. Umar shared, “If you are traumatized, if you are emotionally damaged; you are promiscuous.” He went on to say that emotionally traumatized individuals seek constant validation from others, leading to behaviors he associates with promiscuity.

His main argument is the belief that children need both parents for emotional and psychological development, emphasizing the significance of a father figure. Dr. Umar stated, “If a woman’s father loved her, she won’t have trouble loving a man,” suggesting that a father’s presence in a child’s life is crucial for healthy emotional development.

According to Dr. Umar, women who had their fathers actively involved in their lives “operate in the dating game completely different” compared to those who did not. He implies that the absence of a father figure may contribute to trust issues and a lack of confidence in navigating relationships for some women.

His remarks have sparked discussions around personal experiences, parenting, and the impact on romantic relationships.

Critics point out that attributing promiscuity solely to emotional trauma may perpetuate harmful stereotypes and stigmatize individuals who have experienced trauma. It raises concerns about the potential for victim-blaming and reinforces outdated beliefs about women’s behavior based on their upbringing. He also spoke on rappers showing color preferences including Jay-Z and ‘woke’ black conscious communities.

Dave Chappelle Raps Biggie’s “Big Poppa” At 1500 Or Nothin’ Day In Inglewood

Dave Chappelle doing a surprise set in Los Angeles? We are not worthy!

On Monday, January 15th, 1500 or Nothin’ hosted their annual 1500 or Nothin’ Day, throwing a huge benefit concert at their 1500 Sound Academy in Inglewood, California. The mayor of Inglewood appointed Jan. 15th as the designated day to celebrate this extremely talented collective of producers, songwriters, and musicians.

To date, 1500 or Nothin’ has worked with all the elites in the music industry, including Beyonce, Jay Z, Justin Timberlake, Nipsey Hussle, The Isley Brothers, and many more. This highly-anticipated event was the brainchild of co-founder Larrance “Rance” Dopson, a way to give back to the community in a major way. Guests were welcomed with live music, food, and good company.

While the musical performances were the main attraction, no one expected Dave Chappelle to come on stage. He even sang Biggie’s “Big Poppa,” and sang multiple records. In true Dave Chappelle fashion, he also hilariously admitted to being drunk on stage.

Actress Angela Bassett was also in attendance; it was her first appearance after receiving an Oscar.

Other talented musicians include Terrace Martin on the saxophone, DJ Battlecat, Brittany Barber, James Fauntleroy, and more. The beauty lies in the fact that everyone who performed was off the strength of Rance’s relationships, pulling up for the love and, again, giving back to the community that birthed him.

All in all, this was a beautiful celebration of music and pure talent. Shout out to 1500 or Nothin’ for giving folks an evening for the books!

Timbaland Announced as 2024 Inductee in Songwriters Hall of Fame

Timbaland Announced as Inductee in Songwriters Hall of Fame

Timbaland is headed to the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

The Songwriters Hall of Fame has announced its latest inductees for the 2024 Induction and Awards Gala, honoring musical luminaries who have left an indelible mark on the industry. The esteemed list also includes Hillary Lindsey, Dean Pitchford, R.E.M. (Bill Berry, Peter Buck, Mike Mills, and Michael Stipe), and Steely Dan (Donald Fagen and Walter Becker).

These legendary songwriters boast an impressive catalog of hits, such as “Jesus Take The Wheel,” “Big Pimpin’,” “Footloose,” “Losing My Religion,” and “Reelin’ in the Years.” The star-studded gala is scheduled for Thursday, June 13th, at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. Stay tuned for announcements on additional special award honorees.

“I’ve said it before, but the music industry does not exist without songwriters delivering great songs first. Without them there is no recorded music, no concert business, no merch . . . nothing, it all starts with the song and the songwriter,” said SHOF Chairman Nile Rodgers. “We are therefore very proud that we are continually recognizing some of the culturally most important songwriters of all time and that the 2024 slate represents not just iconic songs but also diversity and unity across genres, ethnicity and gender, songwriters who have enriched our lives and literally enriched music and the lives of billions of listeners all over the world.”

Founded in 1969, the Songwriters Hall of Fame (SHOF) plays a crucial role as a connecting link between the rich history and promising future of music. Within its hallowed halls, musical trailblazers are immortalized and honored, and the organization’s active engagement with the music community nurtures the emergence of the next generation of troubadours. Eligibility for induction is based on a songwriter’s substantial catalog of songs, making them eligible for consideration 20 years after the initial commercial release of a song.

[WATCH] Uncle Murda Says He Lied About Being Shot In The Head

Uncle Murda1

In a recent visit to ‘The Danza Project,’ podcast, G-Unit soldier and controversial rapper Uncle Murda reinforced the sentiment that “all tappers lie” and even included himself in that consensus.

The “Rap Up” emcee went on to tell a story about himself embellishing a story, saying, “I remember I lied about getting shot in the head. That was early on in my career — I lied about getting shot in the head because I wanted to like, ‘Aight, s***, maybe I could get this whole 2Pac/50 Cent wave going on right now, n****.’”

He went on to say that the song “Brooklyn” featuring Fabolous and Jay-Z gave him the notoriety to run with the story, adding, “‘Let me act like I got shot in the head for real, and then it’s going to be like, ‘Oh shit! Murda got shot in the head! The next day he back like ain’t shit happen.’’”
