The women of R&B don’t seem to have quite as much drama as those over in the world of hip-hop, but still, that doesn’t mean they don’t go through their issues. Most recently, it was comments made by Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Envy on The Breakfast Club that have music lovers talking about SZA and Mary J. Blige, and whether they’re as comparable as the radio hosts made them sound on a recent episode. “Do we appreciate SZA as an artist the way we should?” the former asked the latter. “Yes, absolutely,” Envy said without hesitation.

“Do we really?” the Brilliant Idiots host inquired again.”I mean, she gets all the radio play and all of that — I feel she can get more awards, which I’m sure she will. You know, the Grammys are next month, so she’ll get those accolades, but do we really appreciate the once-in-a-generation talent she is?” Charlamagne pondered. At this point, Envy reconsidered his initial response, agreeing that though SZA gets radio play, her artistry is overlooked. “[She’s] this generation’s Mary [J. Blige],” he boldly asserted.

Kid Cudi Samples Old XXXTENTACION Track On “INSANO”: Fans React

Kid Cudi’s new album INSANO has plenty of notable collaborations across its creative tracklist, but fans were particularly excited for one. However, when they tuned into the track “X & CUD,” they found that the XXXTENTACION “feature” was just a sample of his 2017 song “Orlando,” which is off his album 17. Some fans expressed strong disappointment in this, appreciating the gesture but feeling cheated and exploited with how the collaboration was announced. On the other hand, some listeners referred to the late Florida rapper’s producer John Cunningham, who indicated via Twitter on Monday (January 8) that this would a sample of a previously released track and not a brand-new feature.

Furthermore, a lot of fans think people overreacted, bu understandably so, given the vague nature of these announcements. After all, XXXTENTACION’s work has been exploited far too much already for morbid profit, which is why many fans are so hesitant to celebrate new music to the fullest. At the same time, though, this is Kid Cudi’s way of paying homage and making a tribute rather than fully collaborating, which is clear now that we can listen to the track in its full context. Back in 2021, the Cleveland creative expressed regret at never getting the chance to work with him or another artist gone far too soon, Juice WRLD.

Lil Yachty Posts His Playlist Online After Fans Clowned A Fake One

Lil Yachty is many things: a rapper, stylist, gamer, songwriter, psych-rock creative, and the list goes on. Given his unique aesthetics, the cultural splash he made on impact, and the polarizing nature of a lot of his art and statements, he has also been identified as a key tastemaker in the past seven years or so. Maybe that seems far-fetched, but the Atlanta native is always down to share his tastes and proclivities with the world. Recently, though, people clowned him for this very fact after they found an alleged playlist of his on Spotify that many deemed “basic.” When the 26-year-old caught wind, he said it was fake but posted his own Apple Music playlist to prove it.

Furthermore, it’s about 450 songs long, totaling in at about 30 hours and 41 minutes. Genre-wise, it’s pretty all over the indie/rock/pop/R&B spectrum, although it doesn’t contain much in the way of strict hip-hop. That makes sense, though; Lil Yachty’s spoken before about how he usually doesn’t listen to other rap music to stay fresh and focused on his own craft. In addition, he explored a lot of different approaches and genres in 2023, something that he’s already continuing in 2024. For example, look no further than Faye Webster’s new single featuring him, “Lego Ring,” which is a quaint and colorful indie-shoegaze-alternative jam.

Lil Yachy Shares His Actual Playlist After Fake One Goes Viral

As for the picks themselves, there are plenty of songs here from Sampha, Drake, Cocteau Twins, Solange, ROSALÍA, Prefab Sprout, Bibio, Bktherula, and many more. Surprisingly, though, there are no songs here from Tyler, The Creator, despite him shouting Lil Yachty out on his own favorite songs list earlier in 2023. Still, we don’t always expect things to be quid pro quo between rappers when it comes to praise. It’s just interesting to see because, as we end a year and start a new one, artists often take the time to shout out their favorite work from their peers.

But Yachty’s playlist isn’t really about that, and is more of a general look into his listening habits. The “Paradigm” artist has a lot of gems on here, and who know what he’ll come across in 2024? Fans are obsessed with Young Thug’s apparent weight gain as he’s been appearing in court for his ongoing RICO trial. With Thug rocking an unreleased Sp5der jacket in the Fulton County courthouse on Monday, users on social media couldn’t help but take note of his physical appearance. When RapTV posted a picture of the rapper on Instagram, followers flocked to the comments section with jokes. 

“Him and Gunna switched bodies,” one fan remarked. Another similarly wrote: “Gunna took some type of science experiment deal to get that body switch.” Authorities also arrested Gunna in the YSL indictment; however, he took a plea deal and was released from prison in December 2022.

Judge Ural Glanville postponed the court dates after the rapper’s co-defendant, Shannon Stillwell, was stabbed in jail. “Given the length of time that we will probably address that, it might be just more prudent to recess you,” Glanville said at the time. “An early recess. When DJ Akademiks posted the screenshot, fans brought up Lil Baby, Lil Uzi Vert, and more.

“Boy slow down dropping all that BS music,” Thug’s post reads. In other posts, Carti shared another screenshot of Camila Cabello on Facetime. He previously teased working with her on new music, earlier this month.

It’d be odd for Carti to be targeting Lil Uzi Vert and his new “Red Moon” single, considering that the rapper recently praised Carti’s new songs during an interview with TMZ. “I like the new Carti. Carti dropped two new songs,” Uzi told the outlet over the weekend. As for whether they’re on the new album, Uzi remarked: “I ain’t gonna lie, I don’t know. We got so much music. We got a million songs. I’d love to be on there though.” Uzi also teased retiring from music following the release of Luv Is Rage 3. “I love making music, but I don’t really want to make music like that anymore,” they explained, after confirming that it would be their final album. Lil Yachty Says He Never Glorified Negativity In His Music, Fans Come Back With Receipts

Lil Yachty has been getting in a lot of trouble lately for his comments about hip-hop. Overall, people have not been on board with the things he has been saying. He has said that hip-hop has been getting stagnant and has also said unsavory things about the content of the genre. Although some feel like he is making good points, others see him as the problem and not the solution. While he may have good intentions, they have not come across very well. As it turns out, he continues to put his foot in his mouth.

Recently, Yachty got to have a conversation with Tierra Whack where they spoke on the state of hip-hop. It was during this conversation that Yachty said that he was not interested in a lot of the topics rapped about these days. In fact, he says his own music has been devoid of anything negative. “When I was younger, and coming up, the class I had glorified drugs, face tats, everything under the book, you know,” Yachty said. “And what I learned as I got older — I never had the fan base of certain peers because I didn’t glorify negativity.”

Unfortunately for Yachty, these comments were immediately pushed back on by social media commentators. As you will see in many of the tweets below, fans pointed out how he has rapped about a ton of negative things in the past. From lean to weed to the Columbine massacre, Yachty has referenced it all. Considering he has said all of these things on record, his comments do feel pretty hypocritical. It is just another example of how Twitter has all of the receipts in the world.

Fans React To Kai Cenat’s 7-Day Jail Stream: The Good, The Bad & All In Between

Kai Cenat’s week-long stream live from a faux prison facility is making a lot of social media rounds at the moment, and it’s for all the good and bad reasons as to why something can go viral. While it’s divisive, it’s hard to argue that it isn’t working. After all, the popular social media star invited various celebrities to be a part of it such as Offset, Druski, NLE Choppa, Teanna Trump, Chrisean Rock, and more. In fact, Choppa already got into some hilarious antics that drew a lot of viral meme attention online, so it’s going pretty successfully so far. Sure, it’s hard to say that about a group of people faking to be inmates, but that’s clearly the idea at hand.

Moreover, the main criticism that seemed to dominate online discussion was that this seems corny, glorifying, and disrespectfully exploitative at worst. However, a key defense of it is that there are plenty of other shows and trends that caused this initial sensationalization of prison. As such, people aren’t really blaming Kai Cenat for how this is coming off, or at least, pointing to the root cause of such attitudes.
