Burna Boy Appears To Call For Lil Durk’s Release With Series Of Controversial Statements

At the end of work week last week, Lil Durk and five alleged OTF (Only The Family) members were arrested. Overall, the charges include for murder-for-hire involving a death, use of a machine gun in a violent crime, and conspiracy to conduct murder-for-hire. It’s all in connection to the attempted murder of Georgia rapper Quando Rondo. It occurred in 2022 but instead of taking his life, it wound up tragically taking Rondo’s cousin, Saviay’a Robinson. On top of this, we have come to learn that someone within OTF had allegedly been wearing a wire for a couple of years and feeding authorities information about Lil Durk.

OTF Jam is the alleged man in question right now, but there’s still so much more to uncover and unpack. Since this bombshell, especially Jam’s wire, fans of Durk’s have been pushing heavily for his release. As of late Monday night, Nigerian rapper and singer Burna Boy seems to be joining the protestors thanks to a collection of statements from IG Stories. “The streets ain’t what it used to be,” he began. “The old rules no longer apply. The way I see it, everybody is a civilian now… No more sliding, just sue your opps to court and take they money. 😂” According to Within Nigeria, this seems to be in relation to a conflict with contemporary, Speed Darlington. Burna reportedly filed a petition against him for cyberstalking.

However, in a separate IG Story following the one above, Burna Boy would champion the release of Lil Durk. “Free SMURK.” All of these comments stirred up some debate amongst the internet, with it being caused by some discrediting the validity of Burna’s words. In general, those nonbelievers don’t think he’s “street” enough to be talking about gangs. “This tweet was posed to come from Boosie not no damn Burnaboy 😂😂😂” This led to a barrage of responses from others putting these types of people on blast for being naive about how dangerous other countries like Nigeria are. Fans Get Into Tense Argument Over Ciara Reportedly Clearing A Sample For Megan Thee Stallion And Not Stunna Girl

At the top of 2024, rapper Stunna Girl put out a song with YG called “Stand Up.” The track sampled R&B stalwart Ciara’s iconic hit “Goodies.” However, it didn’t take long for the singer’s team to take action. She was asked to remove the track from YouTube due to copyright infringement. The single does remain on her DSP accounts, but it’s safe to say that Stunna Girl was incredibly frustrated over the whole debacle. “I literally hate when producers use samples. These artists be actin’ like they made the beat it’s so many people that used that beat but @ciara team writing me saying she personally contacted them about me.”

Fans clapped back at her for putting CiCi and her team on blast saying that she doesn’t know the correct protocol for clearing things. After that spat in January, things have remained dormant, at least until this past weekend. Megan Thee Stallion used the exact Ciara sample on the MEGAN: ACT II cut with Flo Milli “Roc Steady.” However, there are reports out there that she cleared “Goodies” for the Houston act and not Stunna Girl.

Kendrick Lamar Faces Stingy Criticism For His GRAMMY Submissions

Kendrick Lamar, easily, had one of the strongest years of anyone and it’s all thanks to the evisceration of Drake. The kid from Compton has several of the biggest hip-hop records such as “Not Like Us” and “Like That”. Speaking of those two records, Kendrick Lamar officially sent them in for GRAMMY nomination consideration earlier this week. The dagger in the battle with Drizzy could have a chance to win five categories, including “Record of the Year,” “Song of the Year,” “Best Rap Performance,” and more. As for his viral feature on the latter, it’s gunning for four of five same awards as the most successful diss record ever.

Despite all of this assumed critical acclaim, there have been quite a lot of overly critical hip-hop fans, most of them being Drake stans (some Lil Wayne fans too). They have continued to claim again and again that he’s only been so relevant this year due to mentioning The Boy. Furthermore, Lamar has received lots of hate for getting the nod to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime Show, as even his MC counterparts have expressed how Weezy deserved it over him.

So, it’s not a shocker to us at all that the hitmaker is having to hear noise for his GRAMMY submissions. According to a repost from Akademiks TV, a hip-hop fan expresses in a Tik Tok how the award show has been overly dismissive of the genre for years. According to Billboard, the second teaser track to the upcoming album Better Me Than You got its music video yesterday afternoon. Apparently, some Baby Keem fans caught wind of the Big Sean visuals and got to listening and watching. After presumably dissecting it intently, they are coming to the conclusion that the Detroit MC is biting heavily off the pgLang signee’s rap style. They aren’t exactly pointing to what aspects Sean is pulling from. However, we are assuming it has something to do with the zany and high-pitch bits he sprinkles into his delivery.

Outside of that, we feel this is pretty original Sean. We are definitely getting some Dark Sky Paradise vibes, especially with the black and white visuals for this track in particular. Travis Scott Fans Continue GRAMMY Debate Following Killer Mike’s Low Album Sales

Travis Scott fans have been pretty hurt over the fact that Killer Mike took home Best Rap Album at the 2024 GRAMMYs. The Houston native’s fourth studio album, UTOPIA, was a smashing success overall, but ultimately, it wasn’t enough. Since that night, the debates have been nonstop. It didn’t help that the Atlanta, Georgia MC took some subliminal shots at La Flame on his recent album, Michael & The Mighty Midnight Revival, Sings For Sinners And Saints. “STILL TALK’N THAT S***”, the closing track, sees Mike continue to taunt his new foe. “You gon’ respect me like a motherf***in’ Grammy winner / Like I cooked your favorite rapper like a granny dinner (Yeah)“.

This even got to Travis Scott’s manager, David Stromberg. He responded to these exact lyrics, comparing Mike to former controversial GRAMMY winners who may have not deserved the award. “Macklemore and Cardi B tour selling out Chuck E Cheese karaoke nights near u,” Stromberg tweeted. Speaking of the Run The Jewels MC’s recent album, the first week sales for it were revealed and they weren’t eye-popping in a good way. DJ Akademiks shared on his IG that it only moved 2,874 units and this graphic was the foundation he used to rekindle the debate of the GRAMMYs losing their validity.

The Chicago MC’s views waver on the Compton artist’s rapping abilities and musical output as a whole and they have been for some time. Fans have seen him label himself as a better writer than Kendrick (which is arguable), Logic, and most recently Drake during the heat of the beef. Because of this, people on the internet continuously reaffirm that the Samurai creator is a hater, and he has to disprove those claims time and time again. That was the case once again after Lupe hosted a Twitter Spaces event that eventually led some Kendrick fans to press him about where he stands.

Things seemed to escalate to this point following a debate around who can gatekeep in hip-hop. Uproxx was able to copy Lupe’s words, so here are some key points. “If you want to start who is in and who is out, a process which I don’t agree with, and I think is bulls***, if you want to do that you should have a degree… If you ain’t got that, then I don’t think that you are qualified… Just because you can rap, and you’ve sold a bunch of records… It should be stewarded by people who know what the f*** they are talking about very deeply and can write a book about it”.

All of this and more were what got the Kendrick fan base riled up as they felt subtle shots were fired. For example, it led to the second clip, which shows Lupe and a participant go back and forth about who should be liked in hip-hop. Both guys went back and forth about why they like Lamar outside of just his music. The rapper then checked the debater about a time he has ever said he hates the TPAB MC. Overall, the fan’s goal was to get a concrete stance from Lupe about him. After the latter sensed that he accomplished that, he either removed him from the Twitter Spaces, or he left on his own.

Kendrick Lamar’s perceived victory in the Drake beef, capped off with a “Not Like Us” music video, has many fans rearranging their top battle rappers list. Now that Kendrick officially has a lyrical showdown under his belt -– in fact, the biggest since Jay-Z and Nas -– we can compare him to some other mic-killers in the hip-hop world. Of course, there’s one name that people might immediately go to when it comes to technical proficiency, disrespectful disses, and a pretty unchallenged track record, and that’s none other than Detroit’s own Eminem. While most of his opponents aren’t at his level, he does have an impressive history with battle rap and a whole lot of experience.

To be fair, so does Kendrick Lamar when it comes to his previous stints as a battle rapper way earlier in his career. Also, there are plenty of other names to consider in this debate: Pusha T, the aforementioned Esco and Hov, Lupe Fiasco, and legends in their prime like Tupac Shakur and Ice Cube. But Eminem is probably the most popular and prominent example of this. Some fans think that Slim Shady’s experience will get him the upper hand, whereas others posit that K.Dot proved he could go as far as he wanted to with pretty much anyone, and has the strategic approaches to do so.
