Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, Cardi B, Lil Baby, And More Will Perform At The 2021 Grammys

This year is certainly an unconventional year for the Grammys. On top of working around the coronavirus pandemic, the show is holding the award ceremony much later in the year than normal. The Recording Academy was forced to delay the show from its original January 31 date following a spike in coronavirus cases in the Los Angeles area. It was rescheduled for March 14 and with just a week left until showtime, it appears things are going as planned as the Grammys have officially announced performers for the upcoming show.

The Recording Academy announced the lineup for the 63rd Grammy Award show in a string of tweets. The resulting list displays Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Cardi B, DaBaby, Lil Baby, Roddy Ricch, Doja Cat, Bad Bunny, BTS, and Harry Styles as some of the chart-topping acts that will take the stage next Sunday. Chris Martin, Post Malone, Dua Lipa, HAIM, Mickey Guyton, Brittany Howard, Maren Morris, John Mayer, Miranda Lambert, and Black Pumas are also slated to perform.

On the awards side of things, Beyonce leads the way for the 2021 Grammys with nine nominations. She’s followed by Dua Lipa, Taylor Swift, and Roddy Ricch, who each tallied six nominations.

DaBaby Officially Adds His ‘Freestyle’ Verse To SpotEmGottem’s ‘Beat Box 3’

After brushing off the backlash resulting from his “Beat Box” freestyle, DaBaby officially joins Florida-based, TikTok-favorite, trap rap upstart SpotEmGottem on “Beat Box 3.” While the original “Beat Box” generated a wave of buzz for the 19-year-old rapper and “Beat Box 2” featured Pooh Shiesty and became the basis for a viral TikTok challenge, “Beat Box 3” finally connects SpotEmGottem with the North Carolina superstar who helped bring “Beat Box” to the mainstream with his freestyle.

That freestyle, though, was the subject of some controversy thanks to a throwaway line in which DaBaby name-checks 17-year-old pop star JoJo Siwa. The line, which rhymed the singer’s name with “see why,” posited an imaginary rival as a “bitch,” employing the hashtag flow for a clunky punchline that seemed to either call JoJo a bitch as well, or equate all women with bitches, with the most conveniently rhyming one falling within the category. Either way… not a great use of the form, which is always a danger with the hashtag flow.

Of course, DaBaby — no stranger to Twitter controversy after a couple of years’ worth of call-outs and missteps — dismissed the backlash as a case of wordplay going over listeners’ heads. That isn’t quite what happened here, but by combining his verse with SpotEmGottem’s original, at least SpotEmGottem can hope to benefit from the extra attention, and capitalize on it with his next release.

DaBaby Was Sued For Assault After Having A Music Video Shoot Shut Down

DaBaby’s pugilistic reputation has again reared its head as Variety reports the pugnacious rapper is being sued for assault after having a music video shut down. The owner of a Runyon Canyon rental property tried to stop DaBaby from shooting a video and the rapper allegedly got rough, knocking out the owner’s tooth, spitting on him, and stealing his phone and some “valuable kitchenware.”

In the lawsuit, the owner, Gary Pagar, says DaBaby rented the property on the condition that it would be occupied by no more than 12 people in keeping with COVID-19 safety regulations. DaBaby — who has flouted COVID safety in the past — supposedly brought 40 people to shoot his music video. Pagar says that when he arrived to put the kibosh on the proceedings, someone pushed him to the ground, DaBaby sucker-punched him in the mouth, taunted him by tossing his phone back-and-forth, and threatened him not to call the police. When someone else called the police, Pagar says DaBaby and company fled the scene, taking his phone and the kitchenware with them.

He also says they only paid a portion of the rental bill and left behind thousands of dollars of damage, including destroying a security camera in the hopes of keeping their activities a secret. Oh, and Jake Paul is allegedly involved because of course Jake Paul would be involved. He’s said to have been sitting in a car with DaBaby when Pagar arrived.

DaBaby is currently battling multiple assault cases, including ones stemming from a driver he allegedly attacked in Las Vegas, a Los Angeles hotel employee he supposedly beat up for filming him, and a woman from a Tampa club he struck while blinded by a camera flash.
