Russell Simmons Receives Lawsuit From Server In Bali, Reportedly Expresses Shock

The various accusations of sexual assault against Russell Simmons have seemingly followed him all the way to Bali, where he currently resides. Moreover, AllHipHop reports that process server Daniel John Ayoub handed him a lawsuit from fellow former music executive Drew Dixon for defamation concerning his staunch dismissal of her sexual assault claims against him. The story goes that, on March 5, Ayoub went to the Gdas Bali Health And Wellness Resort, which Simmons owns, to serve him with the filing at around 12:30PM local time. After passing two security checkpoints, he searched for him for an hour before finally spotting him.

“I recognized him as the person named in the service papers as Russell Simmons,” Ayoub reportedly expressed. “[He’s] a well-known celebrity and widely known in Bali, Indonesia as well as in the United States and other places.” Simmons had sat with some associates by the time the server approached him. “I said ‘Excuse me, Mr. Simmons, sorry to interrupt your meeting,’” he reportedly claimed. “I then handed Simmons the service documents in an envelope and said, ‘This is for you.’” According to reports, the Queens native expressed shock at the move, and made some calls to his security staff and other unknown contacts.

For those unaware, this case began when Russell Simmons vehemently denied Drew Dixon’s accusations of sexual assault against him. He called her a “liar” and insinuated that the people accusing him of this behavior simply want the fame and money that such a high-profile case brings. Dixon then sued for defamation, as she claims these comments negatively impacted her professional and personal life in a massive way. She seeks compensatory and punitive damages, and this is a separate case to another related to sexual assault from another former Def Jam executive.

Meanwhile, Dixon also accused music executive L.A. Reid of similar abhorrent behavior, who has also denied any and all claims. According to court documented reportedly obtained by AllHipHop, both legal teams are considering settlements in their respective cases. Takeoff Murder Lawsuit Continues, Venue Owner Blames Suspect, Migos & Patrons For Violence

New reports on court documents in Takeoff’s mother’s lawsuit against the venue at which he met a tragic end in late 2022 reveal some very interesting arguments. Moreover, according to RadarOnline, the owner of 810 Billiards & Bowling in Houston placed all blame for the murder on its charged suspect, Patrick Xavier Clark, and his possession of an illegal gun. However, the location also seems to have attributed responsibility to Quavo, Take, and their associates who participated in gambling outside of the venue. Since this lawsuit’s filing in June of 2023, no settlement is in sight and 810 Billiards & Bowling want its dismissal.

Furthermore, Takeoff’s mother Titania Davenport claimed that the bowling alley knew of Quavo and her son’s arrival beforehand and should’ve bolstered security, according to The Los Angeles Times. She maintains that the former Migo was an innocent onlooker during this incident, one that 810 Billiards & Bowling should assume responsibility for given their knowledge of the possibility of large gatherings to see the rappers. In addition, Davenport claimed that some of the venue’s patrons were the one to intimidate Take, cause physical and verbal altercations, and ultimately lead to his loss. She seeks over a million dollars in damages for emotional distress, funeral expenses, and her son’s personal injuries.

Nevertheless, Titania Davenport has other issues to handle around Takeoff’s death, as his father Kenneth Ball is listed as an intervenor in this case against 810 Billiards & Bowling. The Georgia MC’s parents have battled over his estate for a while now, as he had no will and, according to RapUp, left around $26 million when he passed. AllHipHop also reported that Ball seeks $1 million in damages from the venue for similar reasons to Davenport. Quavo’s assistant also filed a lawsuit against the location in August of 2023, claiming similar irresponsibility when it comes to security and pointing to his own sustained injuries from the shootout.

Meanwhile, after authorities charged Patrick Xavier Clark with the murder, he remains on house arrest until his next court date for August 2024. The Astroworld Festival tragedy of 2021 is one of the most infamous hip-hop history moments of the decade so far, and for good reason. Ten lives were lost, and hundreds more injured, and scrutiny for the event’s organization, planning, and execution followed immediately. While Travis Scott himself seems mostly cleared of all wrongdoing, there is still a lot of conversation around his personal responsibility and accountability. But even more important in the civil litigation against the rapper and Live Nation, the concert series organizers, are new reports from AllHipHop and other sources about what could’ve been prevented.

Furthermore, these new revelations indicate that Astroworld Festival’s Safery and Risk Director for 2021, Seyth Boardman, warned organizers about overcrowding before this aspect resulted in the tragedy, according to court documents reportedly obtained by AHH. Specifically, he made these claims days before they planned accommodated 50,000 festival patrons, a number that reportedly rose by 5,000 individuals on the day of Travis Scott’s concert series. In addition, these new filings reveal that organizers thought they had to account for five square feet per person due to the fire safety code. In fact, they reportedly had to hold the standard at seven square feet.

As such, this new scrutiny centers around the alleged irresponsibility displayed by Live Nation and Travis Scott by underestimating the space necessary to prevent a crowd surge or overcrowding. What’s more is that litigators specifically claim that 50,000 people fit in a space that should’ve accounted for a crowd of 34,500. Additional claims include a lack of action when it comes to folks entering the festival without a ticket and insufficient monitoring for those who needed help in the crowd. This is such a big element that prosecutors identified security breaches as a principal contributor to the disaster.

Meanwhile, there’s still significant legal action from about 4,900 patrons that seek billions of dollars in damages. Drake’s legal team still wants the court to remove him from these lawsuits despite performing that night alongside Scott, since he had no knowledge of security concerns or the festival’s organization. Underground rap duo Armand Hammer released their latest full-length LP We Buy Diabetic Test Strips on streaming services in September 2023. Despite this fact, if you pull up the record on Spotify or Apple Music, you’ll see a release date of February 27, 2024, along with a few noticeable differences from the original September release. The Armand Hammer album has introduced a new bonus track titled “Doves” to its end, but mysteriously, the two Junglepussy features that were previously present on tracks “Y’all Can’t Stand Right Here” and “Empire BLVD” are now missing.

Fans immediately began to notice these changes after the updated version of the album went live in February, prompting an outpouring of questions as to why Armand Hammer members billy woods and Elucid would want to remove Junglepussy from the album. While no concrete answers have been provided by any party involved, subtle hints suggest a possible reason for this change.

However, Elucid has continued to champion the rerelease of We Buy Diabetic Test Strips on social media.

The official Armand Hammer Spotify account shared the new album with the caption “Featuring new bonus track Doves” without making any mention of the other changes. For now, it seems that the only way to hear Junglepussy’s original verses is to dig up YouTube archives of the two tracks or purchase early presses of physical We Buy Diabetic Test Strips releases.

Billy Dee Williams brought Lando Calrissian to life in 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back, entering the minds and hearts of Star Wars fans everywhere since. But amid reports of the development of a new movie based on Cloud City’s suave administrator and eventual Rebel general, he had some light teasing to do to the character’s young interpreter, Donald Glover, also known as Childish Gambino. Moreover, Glover portrayed Lando in Solo: A Star Wars Story in 2018, and his take on a younger version of the character was pretty well-acclaimed despite other issues folks had with Solo. Yet Billy Dee thinks that the entertainer’s performance stands on his massive shoulders.

“I had a nice little lunch with him,” Billy Dee Williams told Radio Times magazine of Donald Glover. “He’s a delightful young man. Extremely talented. But I don’t see him… I mean, when it comes to Lando Calrissian, there’s only one Lando Calrissian. I created that character.” However, he knows that Lando has to evolve with a new generation, so he offered Glover some advice to be more charming and mold the character to a new audience, set of demands, and artistic approach in the narrative. As the 86-year-old remarked, he already defined Lando in the 20th century, and now it’s time for Gambino to do the same for the 21st century.

R. Kelly Appeal Update: Attorney Claims State Is Pushing RICO Charges Too Far

R. Kelly is still fighting for his presumed innocence in federal appeals court, and on Monday (March 18), his attorney took aim at the framework that seeks justice for his crimes. Moreover, Jennifer Bonjean argued that the prosecution stretched out RICO laws “to the point of absurdity,” meaning that they misconstrued many aspects of this case for criminal gang activity. Not only that, but she believes this could set a dangerous precedent moving forward when it comes to other groups and crimes that RICO could wrongfully cover. During a hearing for the Court of Appeals of the Second Circuit, Bonjean told a judge panel that his employees were just staffers who did their job, not co-conspirators pushing crimes as RICO outlines.

Furthermore, she believes prosecutors were “preposterous” in their invocation of RICO laws to convict R. Kelly, a conviction and framework that she seeks to reverse. “The government has extended the RICO statute to a set of circumstances that is so beyond what the framers intended, which was to get at organized crime,” Jennifer Bonjean expressed. “Now, we’re talking about an organization with an alleged criminal, but not organized crime.” The singer’s 2021 conviction on nine RICO charges referenced his organized and long-running plot to gather and take advantage of women, both of age and underage. For this and much more, he received a 30-year prison sentence in 2022.

Regardless, at Monday’s hearing Jennifer Bonjean claimed that R. Kelly’s employees knew nothing of these crimes. Since the government could not prove otherwise, she argued, then RICO laws and convictions shouldn’t apply here. “The defendant had a system in place that lured young people into his orbit and then took over their lives,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Kayla Crews Bensing counter-argued. She brought up evidence that the disgraced R&B star’s team knew enough of what was going on, including testimony that one of his colleagues approached a 16-year-old at a McDonald’s, gave her his number, and told her to call him. In addition, another employee alleged to have answered phones for the Chicago native’s “girlfriends,” and according to this worker, some of them were “mid-aged teenagers.”

“This is all evidence that the jury was entitled to infer that Kelly’s inner circle knew what was going on: that he was recruiting and maintaining underage women for sexual activity,” Bensing stated. While federally overturned convictions, Bonjean achieved this for Bill Cosby back in 2021 for similar crimes. After Monday’s hearing, which comprised of a lot of legal muddy water, the court will decide on this appeal in the next few months. “RICO is looking at organizations, that are then used to commit criminal acts,” Judge Denny Chin remarked. “It doesn’t have to be a criminal organization. DD Osama Confronts N3on For Disrespecting His Deceased Brother

N3on is a pretty popular and controversial name in the streaming world, recently getting unbanned from Kick after his apology to an underage fan he threatened. But that’s not all that he’s had to answer for as of late, as he was also confronted by rapper DD Osama. The interaction appeared live on the social media personality’s stream, in which Osama traveled with his entourage as well. He confronted the content creator for disrespecting his dead brother, which he did by dancing to the Kyle Richh song “Notti Bop.” It’s overall a pretty ugly and sensitive topic, but one that he still took lightly, and that Notti’s brother didn’t appreciate.

Not only did N3on disrespect Notti, but also DD Osama himself by calling him a transphobic slur and telling him to “suck his d**k.” During their confrontation, the “Baby Wait” MC told the streamer that he doesn’t know the streets that Osama is from, and that he’s just a “nerd.” However, it wasn’t a particularly hostile or combative approach, as N3on wanted to offer his sincere apologies and Osama wanted to make him understand why he was wrong and put him in his place. It could’ve been much worse.

For those unaware with DD Osama, he’s been making waves in the Harlem drill scene and the wider culture of New York hip-hop for a couple of years now. Last year, he had some high-profile collaborations such as the Coi Leray-assisted “Upnow” and the recent Luh Tyler collab “Pup.” As for N3on, he’s been in a lot of drama and controversy for a while, but his profile and viewership remains quite large. If anything, a situation like this is the type of thing that only works in his favor, at least from a popularity perspective.
