‘Red Table Talk’ Provides Update on When the Smith Family Will Address Oscars Slap

red table talk

Shortly after the infamous Oscar slap, reports stated Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith would address the viral moment on a forthcoming episode of Red Table Talk. The Facebook Watch show made its return on Wednesday and provided an opening statement on the alleged episode.

“Considering all that has happened in the last few weeks, the Smith family has been focused on deep healing,” the message reads. “Some of the discoveries around our healing will be shared at the table when the time calls. Until then the table will continue offering itself to powerful, inspiring and healing testimonies like that of our incredibly impressive first guest.”

The first guest for this season is Janelle Monae. The outspoken LGBTQIA+ superhero and eight-time Grammy nominee explains why she no longer considers herself a woman and what prompted her to come out at the age of 32.

According to Radar Online, Will has declined invites to Good Morning America and The Today Show to discuss the matter. In the fall out of the slap, Will Smith released an apology to Chris Rock on Instagram and received a 10-year ban from the Oscars ceremony.

“Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally,” Smith wrote. “I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.”

The moment has not stalled work for Will Smith as he is reportedly “flooded with offers.

One of the most popular duos in Hip Hop history is the Grammy Award winning DJ jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, who even after three decades, still have each other’s back and that is proven after what Will Smith’s longtime DJ and friend had to say about “the slap heard around the world.”

On a segment of Closed Sessions Legend Conversation at Dorian’s Through the Record Shop in Chicago, Jeff Townes aka Jazzy Jeff touched on the topic of slapping Chris Rock at this year’s Academy Awards by defending Smith’s actions, but at the same time admitting that the move was out of character of the otherwise comedic actor.

“Don’t get it twisted that it was something he was proud of,” Jazzy Jeff said. “It was a lapse in judgment, you know? I think the thing that I’ve realized is I don’t know too many people that has had the least amount of lapse of judgment than him. I can name 50 times that [Smith] should’ve smacked the shit out of somebody and he didn’t. So for him to have a lapse in judgment, he’s human. And I think a lot of the criticism comes from the people who don’t think people like that are human.”

DJ Jazzy Jeff Defends Will Smith By Noting All The Times That He ‘Should’ve Smacked The Sh*t Out Of Somebody’ But Didn’t

DJ Jazzy Jeff, Will Smith‘s friend and Grammy-winning collaborator, spoke for us all when he tweeted his thoughts on the Fresh Prince slapping Chris Rock during the Oscars.

Jazz has since expanded on his thoughts during an interview with Chicago radio station 107.5 WCGI (via People). “Don’t get it twisted that it was something he was proud of. It was a lapse in judgment, you know?” The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air actor said. “I think the thing that I’ve realized is I don’t know too many people that has had the least amount of lapse of judgment than him. I can name 50 times that he should’ve smacked the sh*t out of somebody and he didn’t.” Unfortunately, that 51st time was during Hollywood’s biggest night when 15 million people were watching at home.

Jazz continued:

“So, for him to have a lapse in judgment, he’s human. And I think a lot of the criticism comes from the people who don’t think people like that are human.”

Here’s a dramatic reenactment of DJ Jazzy Jeff protecting Smith from criticism:

Others (not named Billy Crystal and Jim Carrey) in the entertainment industry who have worked with Smith have also come to his defense. “To me, it’s just like, enough of it. All right, so a dramatic thing happened, but I just think we’ve got to get our priorities straight,” Bad Boys director Michael Bay said about the Slap. Would he work with Smith again? “Absolutely, 100 percent,” he replied. “He’s a very even-keeled guy.”

Chris Rock has yet to comment on the incident, and won’t until he gets paid.

Chris Rock Jokes on Stage in California: “I Got My Hearing Back”

LAPD Says Chris Rock Won't Press Charges on Will Smith

Chris Rock has provided an update on when he will speak about the infamous Oscars slap. Deadline reports, Rock was on stage at the Fantasy Springs Resort-Casino in Indio, California and gave details on what it would take for him to dive into the subject.

“I’m OK, I have a whole show and I’m not talking about that until I get paid. Life is good. I got my hearing back,” Rock said. He would then enter his current show’s routine.

Before this statement, Chris Rock addressed the moment during the start of his Ego Death comedy tour days after the Oscar slap. Rock was in Boston to take the stage for his first show and fans both in the building and around the world were eager to hear what the comedy legend had to say. According to Variety, he decided to stray away from talking about the slap from Will Smith.

“How was your weekend?” Rock opened the set. “I don’t have a bunch of shit about what happened, so if you came to hear that, I have a whole show I wrote before this weekend. I’m still kind of processing what happened. So, at some point I’ll talk about that shit. And it will be serious and funny.”

During Rock’s opening moments on stage, a fan yelled “Fuck Will Smith.” Rock would not acknowledge the statement and proceeded to say “I’m going to tell some jokes. It’s nice to just be out.”

The Boston show was one of six at The Wilbur theater. According to WCVB – Boston, Wednesday had two shows. A lengthy ovation led to an emotional moment as Chris Rock began to wipe away tears on stage.

“I’m still kind of processing what happened,” Rock said. “At some point, I’ll talk about that shit and it’ll be serious, it’ll be funny.”

[WATCH] Comedian Corey Holcomb: Tupac Didn’t Want Jada Pinkett

Screen Shot 2022 04 08 at 7.09.27 AM

As the talk of the infamous slap heard throughout Hollywood continues to be a topic at conversation tables, Jada Pinkett-Smith’s post slap actions have received a lot of criticism, but none as brutal as what came from the mouth of comedian Corey Holcomb.

Holcomb gave his take on why Pinkett-Smith goes so hard to remind the world that she was close to late Hip Hop icon Tupac Shakur, but it is questionable as to whether or not they were intimate. Holcomb also brought up the letter that her daughter Willow Smith penned to Shakur after learning of the connection of the slain rap legend to her mother.

Willow wrote when she was 11 to Tupac, telling him, “I know you are alive someplace. I think that my mommy really misses you. Can you please come back so mommy and me can be happy! I wish you were here. I really do!”

[WATCH] Twitter Roasts Chris Rock After Old Videos Resurface Of Him Shading Black Women

Screen Shot 2022 04 04 at 8.59.02 AM

Last week Chris Rock’s brother Tony Rock came to Chris’s defense after he was slapped by Will Smith at the Academy Awards for disrespecting Jada Pinkett-Smith.

After watching the world go through a phase of ‘protect the black woman’ it was interesting to see the response after a man well…protected his black woman.
The feelings and history behind black hair is way deeper than poor comedic jokes. From alopecia to being told our hair is ‘bad’— black women have endured years of embarrassment at the expense of a few laughs. From being called nappy-headed, bald-headed and worse, it’s expected that men with black moms, aunts and relatives understand  the pain behind black hair. Acceptance, convenience, time-management and lack of hair knowledge have all contributed to black women’s hair journey. While it can be as personal to many as personal hygiene, it’s always baffling when men speak on issues that pertain to women.

chris rock

Tony Rock tweeted that everyone should watch his brother’s movie ‘Good Hair’ to prove Chris has nothing against ‘women of color’. This quickly turned bad when he was reminded how badly Chris portrayed Black women in ‘Good Hair’ a movie he allegedly stole from another Black woman
From explaining to White America how and why Michelle Obama wears weaves to turning his nose up at women who relax their hair Chris Rock’s disdain for black women’s hair choices were inevitable. His film Good Hair was supposed to teach others about our hair journey. Reminiscent of the kid that goes to school and tells all his family’s business. While celebrities supported the film and women in the film laughed nervously—most black women cringed through his movie. From questioning a child about her perm to trying to sell black hair no one wanted, it was just another slap in the face to the women we are supposed to protect. While Chris Rock’s own relationships have seemed to fail in spite of him choosing women with awesome hair choices, the question remains…is it a man’s business to discuss what a woman does with her hair?
Watch these clips below and Twitter’s response.
