Chlöe Bailey Says Criticism Of Being Too Sexual Was “Killing” Her
It’s hard for child stars to break out of the image that they first introduced to the world. Bow Wow and Justin Bieber certainly faced their setbacks as they grew up in front of the public. However, it’s a regular occurrence for any child star to sheds their youthful image. Chlöe Bailey, for example, came up as one-half of the sister duo, Chlöe x Halle during their teen years. They grew up from girls to women in front of the world but in their journey to find themselves, they’ve faced immense public scrutiny.
Chlöe, who’s fresh off of the release of her debut solo album, In Pieces, blossomed with confidence into her 20s. However, she’s had to face the wrath of ruthless online trolls day after day, especially as she found herself. During a recent interview with PEOPLE, she explained how that became the premise of her new album. “We both didn’t really know who we were individually without the other, and that’s what was really scary for me,” the 24-year-old star explained. “It was a moment of self-doubt where I was like, ‘Can I do this without my sister?’”
Chlöe Talks About The Criticism Of Being “Too Sexy”
If you recall, the moment she strutted onto the VMA stage to perform the Murda Beatz-produced, “Have Mercy,” she faced an influx of criticism for her sexy choreography and attire. Though it caught Gunna’s attention, she explained the commentary began to get to her. “I never understood it. I’d look at my peers and be like, ‘We’re all the same age. They’re showing as much as me, if not more. But if I do it, I’m ridiculed to the max,’” she said. Her statement reflects the backlash she faced from her recent love scene in Swarm that led to plenty of criticism in the week that followed.
“As much as I would see it and try to act like it didn’t affect or bother me, it would,” she continued. “I was starting to believe the lies that the trolls were saying online, and I started to look down on myself even more than what I already was doing with my own insecurities. Once I ignored it, I’ve been good.” Check out Chlöe Bailey’s new project here and sound off with your thoughts on the recent statements in the comment section below.
Latto Reveals Age Jokes From Internet Trolls Bother Her, Thinks She “Looks Like An Old White Woman”
Dealing with online criticism is never easy, but once you reach celebrity status, the hate coming your way feels seemingly endless – just ask Latto, who got candid about what comments bother her during the debut episode of her 777 Radio show. For her first interview, the rap diva spoke with R&B starlet Chloe Bailey, whose debut solo album, In Pieces came out today (March 31). During their chat, the girls not only chatted about past relationship rumours surrounding them but also their thoughts on the often nasty online discourse that runs rampant.
“Even things we weren’t insecure about, people will poke on,” the Swarm actress pointed out to her friend. “Yeah! Like me looking old,” Latto interjected, making it known that she’s not fond of people acting surprised to find out that she’s only 24 years old. “You don’t look old,” Bailey reassured her as the “Wheelie” hitmaker laughed. “That’s crazy!” The host went on to explain that she often sees herself compared to older white women, which seemingly triggers some sort of negative reaction within her.
Latto and Chlöe Discuss Internet Hate
“I can’t, that’s the things that be going through our heads!” the Atlanta-born vocalist said while giggling. “It is!” Latto agreed. “And it’s all because of social media though, it really is… I can’t say all, but, like you said, it just heightens your insecurities,” she added. “And makes up new ones!” Bailey chimed in, causing her friend to reply, “I never thought I looked old until I read it on the internet and now I just think I look like an old white woman.”
Aside from that hilarious snippet, the first episode of 777 Radio also saw Bailey address past rumours about a fling between her and Quavo. While she didn’t expressly explain their history, she did label the Migos member a “really nice guy,” also praising his locs. Gossip surrounding the rapper and R&B artist began flying after they were filming Praise This together, though nothing was ever officially confirmed. Chloë Drops Debut Solo Album ‘In Pieces’ Feat. Missy Elliott, Future & More
Chlöe’s debut album, In Pieces, is here. The new 14-track album features Missy Elliott, Chris Brown, and Future.
The In Pieces cover brings Bailey holding a heart in her hand while wearing a white dress. In a separate note, Bailey revealed the album is developed to connect with her fans.
“In Pieces is for the ones who behind closed doors are breaking and don’t know how much more they can take. In Pieces is for the ones who hold the people up around them while barely holding themselves. In Pieces is for the people who continue to get stabbed in the back, heart broken by the ones they thought they could trust, but STILL that doesn’t change their heart and how they love. In Pieces is for the ones like me, who wear their outer shell so well that you’d have no idea what they’re going through.”
Earlier this week, Chloë appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! where she performed “Cheatback,” which you can watch below. The full In Pieces album is also available below.

She starts the video by mostly failing to stifle joyful laughter and saying, “I’m so happy! It feels so good!” She went on to acknowledge the control she gave herself over the album, saying, “I just gotta trust myself more. Executive produced by Chloe Bailey! Produced by Chloe Bailey! I produced on every song on that record except two songs. Every other thing on there, produced by, vocal produced by… every song, vocal produced by, Chlöe.”
Chlöe also noted of the project’s mission statement, “I wanted this album to signify and represent heartbreak in every way, and that’s what I said three years ago, and somewhere down the line, it changed and I lost sight of that. Look right back where I ended up.” She added of the album’s influences, “I’ve always wanted it to feel progressive and different and fun and… the feeling I get when I listen to Kanye [West] and Mike Dean and Travis [Scott], I always wanted that sound in my music.”
In Pieces is out 3/31 via Parkwood Entertainment and Columbia Records. Find more information here.

Chlöe Shares Title Track From ‘In Pieces’ Album
Chlöe Denies Fling With Quavo…Sort Of
Latto is the latest Rap star to have her own Apple Music 1 show, and she invited Chlöe for a casual chat. The ladies have been tearing up the charts as hitmaking solo artists, so it was fitting that they caught up about all things music, romance, and gossip. Latto knows all too well what it’s like to answer questions about rumored romances, but she turned the tables when she questioned Chlöe. “The tea was that you was talking to Quavo,” said Latto while on 777 Radio. Chlöe mentioned that they worked on a movie together. Latto replied that the streets weren’t talking about business but pleasure.
This is where viewers believed the ladies were fanning the flames of the gossip. Chlöe and Latto joked about the rumor, but the “Have Mercy” star had yet to deny its truth explicitly. They moved on from the quips, and Chlöe deemed the Migos rapper a “really nice guy.” The ladies also expressed admiration of Quavo’s locs, but that seemed to be where the conversation about a purported relationship ended.
Chlöe & Quavo Are Co-Stars
The clip of the exchange was shared by The Neighborhood Talk, and while it was noted that Chlöe denied the rumors, it wasn’t entirely true. She and Latto joked about it, but there weren’t hard, staunch denials that fans were looking for. Meanwhile, the gossip began after Quavo and Chlöe posted separate images enjoying a beachside vacation. The internet quickly pieced the pictures together and accused the pair of carrying on a secret romance.
However, the duo star in Praise This, an upcoming film also featuring Druski and Tristan “Mack” Wilds. The church youth choir-centered musical movie is slated for arrival in just a few weeks. It comes on the heels of Swarm, Donald Glover’s captivating series on Prime Video. Chlöe stars as the sister to main character Dre, excellently portrayed by Dominique Fishback. Her sex scene with Damson Idris became the talk of social media, but the cast swiftly reacted. They made it clear that it was a work of art for the series and should be treated as such. Still, a naked Chlöe caught everyone’s attention. Check out her exchange with Latto above.
